AAC IS HERE !!!! Pictures first, then explanation of settings and my feelings/opinions so far!
Tumblr media
[Image description: A Jabbla Vibe 10 dedicated communication device, with Grid 3 open to Grid Explorer. It has the name Ezra at the top and three grid sets ready to be opened. Each has a different colour, from left to right they are red, teal, and dark green. Red is Supercore 50, teal is WordPower 100, and dark green is WordPower 100 for Switches. End ID.]
Tumblr media
[Image description: Same communication device, open to Supercore 50 grid set. It is 9 buttons across, 6 buttons down. There is additional row at the top, which is like this from left to right; magic wand, jump back, speech bar taking the space of 4 normal buttons, speak, delete word, clear. End ID.]
Tumblr media
[Image description: Communication device open to WordPower 100, with a plastic keyguard over the top. The keyguard is made of clear plastic and clips onto the device with two black clips, one on each side. This grid is 9 by 12, including the top row with the speech bar and other buttons on either side of speech bar. The background colour is dark blue. The keyguard holes is a bit smaller than the size of the buttons, so sometimes seeing the full button is tricky. End ID.]
Tumblr media
[Image description: Same device, open to WordPower 100 for Switches. It is without the keyguard because the grid is 9 by 13 instead of 9 by 12, so it doesn’t fit this grid. The background is white and there is bigger spacing between the buttons compared to the other grids. There is a switch frequency keyboard on the right hand side of the screen. The buttons on this grid is divided into clearer blocks, for switch scanning. End ID.]
Okay… Firstly I am very very excited and happy and quite overwhelmed!! It is so great and relieving to have my own dedicated device, finally! I cannot describe how much this will help me.
Michelle (SCTCI (Scottish Centre of Technology for the Communication Impaired) person) set this up so the WordPower 100 grid is automatically opened first. However I already think I need to change this so Supercore 50 is first to open. I already am so much faster with Supercore, I think because it is less buttons to process, less overwhelming. And more easy to understand categories which help me with navigation (I struggle with that).
I also will try the keyguard, and Michelle say she can get another one for WordPower 100 for Switches. I don’t know if keyguard for Supercore 50 is an option, but it is custom made by someone apparently, so I assume it is possible.
Basically right now is just for trying and editing and experimenting. Then eventually I can ask Mum to email Michelle if I have anything to say or ask!
The physical device (Jabbla Vibe 10) is great! Not too heavy, good handle, good stand with good range of angles. I also have a bag for it!
I am just so happy and proud. I already use Supercore 50 to say several long sentences to Mum, and I am super fast on it!!! That is a big deal and big accomplishment for me. I also have Archie Scottish boy voice, and I love it.
🥰😍🤩🥳😄🎉

howdy. so, ive learned about a group that does low cost assistive technology for cost of materials and shipping! they're called Makers Making Change! they do a variety of things so you should check and see if they have something that might benefit you (i believe you can also submit a request for a design that doesn't exist if you have an idea!). i did submit a request, but i cancelled it because i asked for help modeling the 3d print at first but actually ive ordered some calipers and im just gonna do it myself lol.
the item is a keyguard for my aac tablet. i use an Amazon fire 7, which is not a tablet that's commonly used for aac. most keyguards are sold for ipads. a keyguard is a plastic overlay that goes over the front of the screen and helps you target more accurately. which i think will be very helpful to increasing speed and ease of access for me.
i have gone back and forth about getting one but first of all, im not decreasing the amount of keyguards available for people who require them, and secondly me not having a severe motor control issue doesn't mean i can't benefit from this. it's just hard for me to accurately target the buttons on my device.
so once the calipers i ordered arrive, i'll be able to measure my case and input all the numbers and preferences into the program to make a custom shaped and sized keyguard just for me!
side note, if anyone goes to the makers making change website and has a look at the design called "Customizable, 3D Printable Keyguard for Grid-based, Free-form, and Hybrid AAC Apps on Tablets" and you think this is the item you need, if you want help modeling it, dm me! i ahev picked up quite a bit of info about how openscad (the program to model it in) works and the file itself. i wouldn't say im proficient or anything, but i believe having a file ready to print before you post on makers making change or even go to a custom 3d printing service on Etsy or something will be a lot faster than having the person making the print help you measure and fill out everything. especially if you have a nonstandard tablet and case like i do. anyway.
so that's my ramble for now. bye.

I have been gone from this blog for quite a while. 😅 Oops. I mostly post on another account and I might just move there instead of but i'm not sure. I talk in third person there so it takes way less spoons. If any followers here want to follow me there it is @nonspeakingkiku
Updated intro time I guess.
I'm Percy. I also go by Kiku. On my other account I primarily go by Kiku.
I am a mostly nonverbal multiply disabled autistic and adhd adult. I am high support needs. I previously identified as semiverbal but I rarely have speech and when I do have it I can't communicate very well with it. I suspect I have global apraxia and a language disability of some kind but I have no idea what. I am working on becoming a full time aac user (I have trauma because I was forced to talk a lot because no one knew I have a speech disability).
I currently use LAMP words for life, Proloquo2go, Proloquo, and TD Snap. I use LAMP and Proloquo2go about the same amount probably and I use Proloquo more than TD Snap. I am still customising things in them though and I only have one device for communication and self regulation so that affects things.
I communicate using my aac apps, word approximations, gestures, a handful of ASL signs, sounds, and sometimes echolalia. My speech is increadibly unreliable and I often can't be understood especially by people other than my partners.
I have processing difficulties especially with to auditory processing. I have migraines that affect my vision and because of this I have some of my aac apps set up similar to how you would for someone who is visually impaired (The main one is LAMP currently) and I want to get a keyguard for it eventually to help prevent misshits.
I am genderqueer, and I collect a lot of gender terms because I feel they fit me. I like the words boy, girl, and enby to discribe myself at different times. Sometimes I am a boy, sometimes i'm a girl, sometimes i'm both, sometimes i'm neither, and sometimes i'm something else. Boy and girl at the same time is most common. My pronouns are fluid but currently He/She/They/Fae are good and I like canine and bunny themed neopronouns.
I am nonhuman and identify with a lot of different creatures, currently the most prevelant ones are werewolf, bunny, unicorn (MLP universe), and fox/kitsune.
I am something called an aspen. That means my parts of self are bigger due to trauma. Similar to DID/OSDD but I am one person, not multiple. Although I don't always feel like one person.
I love animals, crafting, video games and have many interests.
I'm not sure what else to say but if you read this thanks ☺️

Currently am binging all the Kingdom Hearts games in order, via watching let’s plays and I got nostalgic for my Kingdom Hearts OC, Azuki, who was part of this neat little group called Neo-Keyguards. (Despite the number on his face, he was number 4, used to be 10 in the original version).
So I drew him, updating his design some. Since he originated from the world of Treasure Planet, made him a bit more swashbuckley and madded a bit more of a lightning rod feel to the middle of the keyblade~!

I have a whole list of things I want to write about. Always I feel like I am only just keeping on top of basic body needs, plus the constant dysregulation. I am constantly brain overfull, no capacity left. And with every skill I lose, it gets harder.
I also have a list of edits I want to make to new AAC (mainly words I want to add, but a few notes on how to rearrange). It takes a lot of energy to make edits on this AAC, the settings are complicated and new. And physically takes strength to lift arms a lot, and fine motor control to tap tiny tiny places on screen.
I hope for more days where I have more brain space and more calm and more can control body. So I can write more things I want to write. And make edits on AAC so I can use it more to help write!
And hope for feel less dysregulated so I can properly rest my body when it is tired and sore, not just swing swing swing, to try and stay closest to calm as possible.
AAC can be so helpful for words and writing, but only if it works right for me. There is so many aspects that go into making AAC work for me, it is hard to make it fit perfectly. But I am working on it slowly.
Supercore 50 is already closest fit to perfect that I find so far (out of all options that I know about)! And I currently work on WordPower 100 to make visually better - I want to learn it for with keyguard. I really really try.
I just have so much in my head is abstract and fragments and cannot get out with words. Frustrating. I want to write!!!

#491: Rescind
For their third date, William thought it would be appropriate to invite Sam over to his apartment for dinner. It was only fair; she invited him over and cooked for him all the time. He was due to return the favor.
She gushed over his apartment and how much she loved its architectural design and modern style. He wasn’t sure what style there was to love about the décor though; white carpet and black furniture suited him, but he thought he was an exception. William served salad and a chicken and mushroom risotto. Sam was not only noticeably impressed that he knew how to make good food but that the food was actually good, too. All these new things she was learning about him sparked lots of conversation. He was thankful for this because while they had yet to reach a point of stagnation in talking, he was dreading that eventuality. He’d never cared whether or not the atmosphere between he and another individual was occupied with chit chat, but he was afraid of silence with her. He didn’t know what would happen.
After dinner, she asked to see the rest of his apartment. He apologized for having not shown it to her when she arrived, and he made her a drink and gave her the tour. She gawked over his shower in the master bathroom. That much he was quite proud of. Everyone gawked. For good reason. He had the best rain shower, tiled with black marble and installed with misting nozzles. And every time he stepped in it he knew it was worth every cent.
In his music room she gasped again at his baby grand piano and collection of guitars mounted on the wall. “Oh my God,” she breathed, carefully setting her drink on a coaster on an end table to slide her fingers across the sleek surface of the piano. She looked back at him in the doorway. “May I?”
“Sure,” he nodded with his arms crossed.
She lifted the keyguard carefully and gently pressed a key. “I didn’t know you played. More of Odette’s culturing you I take it?”
           “That actually predates Odette’s culturing.”
           “And the guitar?”
           He nodded again pleasantly.
Sam tested another key’s note. “So, you’ve been hiding how talented you are.”
“I said I played, I never said I was any good.”
She giggled, slowly playing the beginning of “Chopsticks”. “… Can I ask you something?”
           He blinked receptively. “Sure. Anything.”
Sam bit her lip. “… No. I’m sorry. I shouldn’t.”
William uncrossed his arms. “It’s all right. Go ahead.”
She clicked her nail on an ivory piece twice, pursing her lips. “You said… Todd said something that stuck with you. I imagined this whole time that it… had something to do with being with Scarlet.”
His joints turned to jelly. This was it. This was what he was afraid of happening when the silence came.
She looked in his eyes. “What did he say?”
William swallowed past a sticky throat and took a breath. “He said… that I only had the illusion of freedom. That Scarlet could take better care of us if she wanted to, but she didn’t because she wanted all of us to be dependent on her. And that if I left her… he would help me get a fresh start.”
Sam’s eyes flooded with tears, and she bit her lips between her front teeth.
“He did his best to help me. And that’s more than I could say for… almost everyone else in my life up to that point.” He swallowed again. His throat was so dry. “I just wish I had… realized it just—an hour sooner.”
She sniffled and a couple tears rolled. “How much later did you leave her?”
           “The same night.”
Her eyebrows angled back. “Really?” she squeaked.
William nodded stiffly, clenching his jaw in case the bile in his esophagus decided to ascend. She continued sniffling quietly. And now he felt faint. Dizzy. His hands had turned cold and clammy, and he prayed he wouldn’t be sick. Then words fell out of his mouth that he only heard in a strange delay. “Sam, I am… so sorry. I have… woken up every day for five years—wishing it had been different, that it was me instead. I have done… so many terrible things and—they all haunt me, but… that’s the one that…” He had to take a breath when he realized he didn’t have enough. “… that even the light of my effort to repent for will not touch for a million years.”
Her lip quivered and she stepped closer, slowly slipping her arms around him and pressing herself to his front. He held her upper arms and let her hug him. William’s chest ached at feeling her sobbing breaths against his ribs.
“I believe you,” she sighed into his chest.
The pain in his breast climaxed, making him wince. For a moment he thought something was wrong, but it ebbed when she lifted his face with her hands and spoke again.
           “And I forgive you.”
---
Odette pressed her hands over her mouth and spoke through her fingers. “Then what happened?”
William sat down slowly in his armchair after handing Odette her drink. “And then she kissed me.”
The redhead gasped again and nearly sloshed her drink out of her glass. “Bozhemoy! The first kiss!”
“The first kiss,” he took a sip of his whiskey.
           “What was it like?”
           “Well. She was crying.”
“I mean what kind of kiss was it?”
He leaned back. “Soft. Long… Amazing.”
Odette grinned and cupped her drink in both hands. “Unconventional, yes, but exceptionally romantic. What was the rest of the night like?”
“She changed the subject real quick after that and we had another drink on the sofa, she cuddled me, we kissed some more, and she went home.”
She wiggled in her seat. “Well, it was a bag of trail mix for sure, but I think it went really well.”
“I guess. We have another date next week.” He took another sip.
“She actually said the words,” Odette breathed an exaggerated sigh and put a hand against her chest. “It’s like something out of a fairy tale.”
“I don’t know about that. Pretty sure the suitor isn’t supposed to have murdered the previous one in fairy tales.”
Odette dropped her hands. “Ostanovi eto.”
           “I’m just stating a fact.”
           “No, you’re not, you’re just—doing negative self-talk.”
William lifted his glass again and spoke into it before another drink. “Negative self-talk.”
           “Ne unizhay menya,” she snapped.
“I wasn’t mocking! But—in spite of her interest, I think it would be stupid to not remember a very prevalent component of this relationship—”
           “Cat. Do you love her.”
He outwardly flinched and all but hid behind his drink. “Don’t ask me that. You know I don’t know what that means.”
           “Do you like her?”
           “Yes.”
“Romantically? You know what that means, don’t y—”
“Yes, I like her romantically.” He slouched further in his seat and mumbled. “Just don’t… use that word against me.”
“I’m not using it against you,” she said as she finally sat comfortably in her own seat. “I’m just encouraging you to stop avoiding it.”
William looked down, shifting his fingers around his glass.
His friend tilted her head. “She forgives you because she knows you are sincere. And the unfortunate circumstance of her son having been subject to Scarlet’s influence has its own silver lining. Because I think that aided in her understanding of you.” She rubbed her lips together briefly. “This is all going… as well as it could possibly go. I just don’t want you to self-sabotage because you don’t think you deserve it.”
He huffed. “Don’t worry. I don’t think I could even if I wanted to.” He finished off his drink.
Odette pursed her lips and stood to go to him. She leaned over him and kissed the top of his head.

hello. I be ask what AAC I using. I wanted write this on it own so more can know about how I talk. I use many AAC. I most use this Accent 1400 with Unity 144. It have different picture symbols because I need different. I use sometimes with keyguard and sometimes mouth stick and sometimes switches. My disability need change all time. Early maybe I not can move hand. Late maybe tired not move anything.
sometimes I use this LAMP words for life. Sometimes I use sign language get write down for me. Sometimes I show things. Communicate is a lot different ways. I like Unity 144 most because work good for me but other person maybe like different communication device and different symbol. My communication device dedicated device with funding. But use some on iPad too.
it take time to learn where word is and what many picture word mean. Some is easy and some take long time with many many repeat and explain different way until understand.
it help when care use AAC too then learn where word is but also make AAC look ok like people use voice. It my language. Everyone need different like everyone have different voice. Hope be understand. Communicate important should be give everyone how they can.
See you later.
*You can learn more about Jays preferred AAC at this website: https://www.prentrom.com/prc_advantage/language-systems
