I had a great time on my guide trip with Terry yesterday. His goal was to gain a bit of confidence with a few techniques that were new to him. I’d definitely say the day was a success! Crushed them out on the Buffalo River yesterday. We caught close to 100 between the four of us. The water was crystal clear and it was a beautiful crisp fall day. Most the fish were caught on jigs, flukes, jerkbaits and tubes. Still in a bit of shock from having the best week ever. Last weekend was the TN State Championship on Lake Chickamauga, I won that tournament. I then drove 11 hours straight to Wisconsin to fish the KBF Trail Series Championship. I also won that tournament, but most importantly became the KBF National Anger of the Year! Between the two tournaments I won around $20,000. I really want to thank @steve_owens_0207 and @kayakbassfishing for being awesome tournament directors and providing the opportunity for us anglers to compete! Virginia did not disappoint! Had an unforgettable trip camping out with @dcampbell4405 and @justinlucasbass! We had to work hard to catch the better sized fish, because of drought conditions over the past 6 weeks, but at the end of the trip we started to figure things out. This is definitely the best time of the year to camp out and enjoy the outdoors. Well the Hobie tournament didn’t go so great, ended up finishing 17th out of 82. Still had a great time out there though! Hopefully I can turn this little slump I’m in around at the state championship in a couple weeks out on Lake Chickamauga. On my way to Lake Guntersville to fish the Hobie Bass Open Series! The winner of this event qualifies for Hobie Worlds. The last one of these events I got disqualified for accidentally breaking a rule during the prefishing period. This past weekend we wrapped up the KBF Southeast Regional Series. This championship tournament was open to 3 lakes: Wheeler, Wilson, and Pickwick, all which are located in northern Alabama. I had a really tough few days of prefishing, but found a little something while fishing submerged grass on Lake Pickwick the afternoon before the tournament. Both tournaments days I found a few different wolf packs of 30-40 fish. Fishing a chatterbait and big 10” worm, I would catch a few fish from a wolf pack, then they would wise up and I would have to travel about a 1/2 mile to the next spot. I had a rotation of 4 spots I was fishing throughout the day. By the end of the tournament I managed an 8th place finish out of 52 anglers. I ended up falling just a little short of winning the Angler of the Year title. Big congrats to Cody Milton for having an amazing season and capturing the AOY title, he is a great guy and it was well deserved. Also want to congratulate Kristine Fischer for winning her 3rd big tournament this year. What she has accomplished this year is nothing short of amazing! Happy Labor Day everyone! It was a beautiful day to be out on the river. Weather and water conditions were great, but for some reason the fish just weren’t that hungry. Great day out on the Harper River with Dave! The water was still a bit high and a little muddy, but they were biting. Most the fish came on crankbaits, but just about everything we threw got at least a couple. We even had a few bonus catfish and a big carp, Dave’s 3.5 lb smallmouthwas definitely the top catch of the day! Crazy times at the Buffalo River last weekend! Myself and four friends got on the water early Saturday morning with our kickboats and kayaks packed full of camping gear. It was a remote stretch of the river since it was 15 miles between access points, and there was an island right at the midway point for us to camp out on. Fishing went well the first day, we caught around 100 fish between the 5 of us. Andrew caught the largest, a smallmouth a little over 3 lbs. We made it to the island, set up camp, and ate dinner. A storm came in that night and there was light rain on and off until daybreak. At around 6am a huge storm came in, dropping lightning bolts right on top of us. We thought it would pass, but it just kept coming. By 7am the water came up about 5 feet and we knew it wouldn’t be long until it came up to the campsite, so we packed everything up and floated on down the muddy mess of a river. What was supposed to be an all day float only ended up taking a couple hours. Had a fun time fishing with Dave out on the Duck River yesterday! We caught a good amount of fish, no giants though. The Duck River has 151 species of fish making it the most biologically diverse river in North America! Had a blast taking Aaron and his father Richard out on the Stones River yesterday! The water was quite high from recent rains and the conditions were tough, but they both managed to catch a handful of fish! It was a beautiful day out there and we made it off the water right before the next storm rolled in. Squeaked out a first place finish at fourth stop for KBFTN at Piercy Priest Lake. I had to work through quite a few small 12-14” to catch a few better fish. Conditions kept changing throughout the day and I ended up catching fish on 7-8 different lures, fishing at depths between 1-25 feet. I will be donating 25% of my winnings to the Harpeth Conservancy. Went out on the Harpeth River with a small group yesterday. Robert caught the big fish of the trip! He was throwing a Texas rigged Strike King Rage Craw. The water levels on most the rivers are perfect right now. It should be a great weekend to do a float trip!
