fanfic writers love to mention the burning at the stake but that's never actually confirmed as the standard punishment for sorcery in canon. old merlin barely escapes death on the pyre. he tells daegal that arthur would probably hang him if he found out the truth. he tells arthur "you would've chopped my head off". did merlin spend most of his time imagining all the different ways in which he could be executed or did the writers not want to commit

Stephanie Brown and Dick Grayson: I Am Going To Be A Good Parent To Pass On The Good Parts Of My Tumultuous Childhood/Give Someone Else What I Didn't Have Growing Up
Vs
Damian Wayne and Cassandra Cain: You Could Not Pay Me To Be A Parent For Fear I Would Continue The Cycle Of Violence
#dc comics#stephanie brown#dick grayson#damian wayne#cassandra cain#ramblings of a lunatic#don't ask me about tim jason or duke idk what's going on there#Tim can't even make it to college unimpeded his ass is NOT entering fatherhood#you could do something really interesting with Jason as a father but it'd either have to go hard into the 'jason healing' route-#-or the complete opposite direction and go full on 'repeating the cycle of violence' fucked up#and either way it's gonna be divisive#i recently found out (bc i skipped batman and the outsiders) that duke's dad is some kind of immortal entity???? what in the fresh hell#I'm not saying it can't be cool I'm saying I'm. so goddman surprised it's never brought up by ANYONE#i know duke doesn't get his flowers in fandom but SERIOUSLY. WHAT?#ngl i can't say for sure that i don't like it bc i haven't seen the execution but. instinctually i prefer his og backstory#it just felt more grounded and linked to his setting? his whole thing is being the light and pushing batmans message further-#which is already hard for some writers to work w bc depending on interpretation that's the territory of like. 5 other guys in batfam#but duke does it in his own way with the whole working the dayshift angle. idk am i the only one hung up on the eldritch daddy thing?#bc i simply can't imagine the thought process behind that#anyway I've been thinking about the bit in robin 2021 where damian says he's never having kids. he's so real for that#he loves both his parents deeply and that series made that clear but MAN he is not passing on all this mental illness to anyone#and then i thought about how badly steph wanted to be a mom even as a teenager despite her own shitty parents#how she wanted to give someone else more than she had growing up (HOPE HAS ALWAYS BEEN A THEME FOR STEPH LISTEN TO ME)#and she ultimately gave her kid up bc she knew she couldn't give that to them at the time#oouughhhh. then i just figured that dick and cass are roughly the same in their estimation of parenthood#cass had a horrifically abusive upbringing and insanely isolated life til recent-#-all of which was due to/contributed by the parental figures in her life minus maybe barbara#i think I'd love to watch cass act as a mentor (she was a bit of a peer mentor to Steph and got along well w maps in Batgirls)#but it's hard to picture her as maternal. big sister yes. mother no.#dick is soooo dad shaped it's unreal. just as much as he is brother shaped. especially after everything with damian

Writing Bruce feels like herding a wild cat to a door with a broom but the door it's a metaphor of 'not being an asshole'.
Me, trying to write Bruce being emotionally open and mature: He would not fucking say that.

Today's pet peeve - people claiming the common noun for a whole hobby or widespread interest or just, activity you can do, and insisting that it's actually a formal term referring to a specific community/subset of the people you would naively expect.

Hey shimmer! Here’s a question, which other UT characters do you think Chara would get along with?
Definitely Undyne, for one. They seem really impressed by her in their narration, and I think they'd really respect her for her passion and sense of justice.
I think they'd get along with Papyrus too. He'd be fun to hang out with, and they'd appreciate his optimism. Plus I think they'd really enjoy puzzles.
I'm really on-and-off about whether they'd get along with Sans. Because, on one hand, I think they're a big fan of jokes and puns themself, but like. They're clever about it. They'd probably think Sans's puns are Bad and Lame, and they'd be put off by his general demeanor and laziness. BUT, at the same time, I think they'd be able to relate to how much he cares about his brother. They would Tolerate him.
I don't know if they'd get along with Alphys super well. They wouldn't hate her or anything, but like. I feel like it would be a situation where you put two people who have self-worth/anxiety issues in a room together and they just end up stressing each other out. But maybe they could still get along, I don't know.
Napstablook, on the other hand, seems more chill, even if they're not super confident in themself either. I think Chara would get along with them. They could vibe.
Probably not Mettaton, though? They just don't have a lot in common, and they'd probably find him kind of annoying. (Too dramatic.)
Their relationship with Flowey would be very rocky. They would very much hate him at first, but it would be more complicated post-pacifist especially. They would want to get along with him, I think, but a lot of things would make that complicated. They would mostly just bully each other.
They'd still consider Asgore and Toriel to be their parents, and they'd appreciate their company. They'd like gardening with Asgore, and baking with Toriel maybe. It would probably be complicated with them too, though.

So this is my idea of what the afterlife would look like for Everlark (this is a very rough draft) -
Katniss, as an old lady, smiling as she talks with a young man in a brown leather jacket & a short whisp of a woman in a colourful dress.
A woman with curly hair decorated with flowers (every kind except white roses) & a brown eyed boy are deep in conversation.
Prim & Rue (who also have flowers decorating their hair - for Rue it's the ones she was "burried" with & for Prim it's the ones Peeta planted by Katniss's house) are playing with Buttercup & Lady as their mother's (one of which looks much younger then she did in Katniss's lifetime) watch on fondly.
Old man Peeta suddenly strolls into the clearing with an, old, Delly laughing & talking as they carry baskets of freshly baked goods. Madge gives a wave & a smile then goes back to trying to teach Delly's brother how to play the recorder.
The woman talking with Katniss & the man in the leather jacket stop when Peeta approaches, let's out a squeaky laugh at his apology before going to join the conversation between the curly haired woman & the brown eyed boy.
Peeta puts down his basket to hug Katniss & the man in the leather jacket smiles & kisses her forehead before heading to where his wife is.
Peeta asks her where the others are, to which she says Haymitch & his GF went to visit Mayslee, Hazelle had left to catch up with her family & Greasy Sae went to spend time with Ripper.
Peeta was disappointed as he'd just finished making a strawberry tart that would have been a perfect dessert for Madge's father & Katniss lovingly reminds him that Madge can take it with her whenever she leaves.
Then Mags & Finnick show up, by climbing out of a lake, with a young Annie (they're both dressed in their wedding clothes). Peeta & Katniss congratulates her on reuniting with Finnick again & on all she's accomplished in her life after they left, explaining that Finnick & Mags weren't the only ones checking up on her from this place.
That wether it was from Peeta's kitchen window, Katniss's lake, the puddles Haymitch's geese loved to splash around in, the throats of the Mockingjays or Finnick's & Mags's dreams. Everyone had seen, heard or felt the best & worst parts of her life without them & had just been waiting for her to finally be able to join them.
Mags (now free of the effects of her stroke) gose to join in the conversation between the short, whisp of a woman, the lady with the curly flowery hair & the brown eyed boy, who'd began feeding bread crumbs to a flock of Mockingjays.
Finnick smiles lovingly at Annie as she burst into tears when, later in the evening, Joahnna trudges into the clearing, plops down in front of the fire & deposits a bag of shells she'd "happened to stumble upon" in her lap which Annie & Peeta deside to set aside to paint/turn into jewellery later.
Much to everyones delight, Mr Everdeen opens one of the baskets & pulls out the ingredients to make smores. Then when eveyones nice & full him, Lucy & Maude strike up a song. Peeta eventually gets Katniss to join in, which makes her dad smile, her mum cry, Prim (with Buttercup on her lap & Lady at her feet) & Rue cheer, Joahnna wolf whistle & everyone else laugh & clap along.
When the fire finally dies out & the only light left comes from the moon & fire flys most of the people start saying their farewells & heading to their own "places" until its only Katniss, Peeta, her family, a young Haymitch & his family left.
At that point they all walk to what would be the Victors village in the real world (but there is no gate, the houses aren't run down & the path to get there is covered in flowers & beatiful wildlife).
Once outside his home, Haymitch says a hasty goodbye to Katniss & Peeta before him & his younger brother are battling to see who can make it through the door first (much to their mother's exasperation).
Katniss & Peeta then go to drop the Everdeens at their house that has a plant shop downstairs & leave just as Prim is begging Mrs Everdeen to allow Rue to sleep over the next day to which she replys 'if her mother allows it' (Katniss of course dose not leave without giving her dad & sister a big hug while her mother settles for a kiss on the cheek).
Katniss & Peeta then make their way to where Katniss's childhood home once recided (though much cleaner & warmer than it had ever been when she'd actually lived there & now with a rather nice kitchen).
As Buttercup curls up at the foot of their bed (she & Prim take it in turns who he stays the night with) & the two lovebirds get ready for bed Katniss turns to her husband.
'I want a night with the girl's tomorrow,' she says. 'I thought you might,' says Peeta with a smile. 'I'll be younger....for a bit,' Katniss decides. 'So will I, probably,' says Peeta. 'Oh?' Asks Katniss, curious. 'I was thinking of visiting my family for a few hours,' he admits. 'That's great, just don't let your mother-'. 'I won't, I promise'. Katniss still dosn't look sure. 'Tell you what if she says anything even remotely passive aggressive, I'll leave straight away & just hang out with Haymitch & Finnick for the day?'. 'Good, it's just'. 'I know'. 'I don't ever want you feeling bad about yourself again, not here'. 'Don't worry, this place is good, we'll always be safe here'. 'Like in our cave?' She asks fondly. 'Even better,' he insists as he wraps his arms around her small but plump frame. 'How long do you think it'll take for the others to come, do you think?'. 'Not for a long time, hopefully,' he responds & she sighs. 'You're right, I guess I just miss hugging my babies,' she admits. 'I know, my little swamp potato,' he teases making Katniss sit up with a blush. 'Oh, I should never have taught you about plants!' She seeths making her husband laugh, dissolving her anger as quickly as it had come but also waking Buttercup with a hiss. 'Ok, ok, we'll quieten down, you silly old thing,' she muttered. 'Hey, be nice to your sister's cat,' Peeta teased again. 'His both of ours now,' she reminded him primly before sticking her tounge out. 'Ok, you got me there, but we really should go to sleep now, we both have big plans tomorrow afterall,' Peeta says, through a yawn. Katniss nods sleepily as he turns off the bedside lamp & the two cuddle up beneath the covers.
'I guess waiting for them here isn't really the worst thing in the world,' Katniss admits. '& why is that sweetheart?' Ask Peeta, curious. 'Back....before there was no guarantees, everything....so rushed & fragile, so likley to go wrong'. She says, starting to sweat. 'Ah huh' agrees Peeta patiently. 'But here it's' she stops. 'Different?' he asks gently. Katniss nods aggressively into his chest, wrinkly hands suddenly gripping one of his dad's old shirts he'd decided to wear tonight. 'We've got forever now right?', she whispers, like a kid who's scared their wish won't come true. ''That's real ok, please believe that," Peeta assures her as he strokes her back, leaning down to kiss her as soon as she lifts her face from his chest.
When Buttercup next wakes, it's to his parents holding hands & smiling as they dream of good things to come.
#the hunger games#thg#katniss everdeen#peeta mellark#everlark#post mockingjay#i kept it vauge as I'm not religious & non of the characters canonically are#as relgion isn't really a thing in the thg universe#i tried my best to include certain characters that i know are important but it's kind of hard because i haven't read or watched tbosbas yet#I've had this idea for a while but I probably won't get round to making a proper draft yet because my mum died very rescently#so I'm kind of busy dealing with that#but i thought I'd post this now as it's been circling my brain for ages#& i thought it might be therapeutic#also I'm more of an ideas girl than a prose girl#but if any talented writers wanna take stab at this then please let me know#also as we're talking about the afterlife here i decided that things like time/age & so on dosn't really work like they do on earth#its very emotion based#like depending on the age you died your apprence can change if you happen to be feeling younger#& even if you look “old” you won't have any of the physical pains that come with that#the same with disabilities#if your fine with your disability & it has no truma attached to it then you'll still have it in the afterlife#& if not then you wake up without them#i have headcannons of where other characters spend a lot of their time in the afterlife but that's for another time i guess#buttercup#thg series#tbosbas#odesta#finnick odair#annie cresta#i went with the theory that katniss is related to maude instead of lucy i hope that came across

this is not untrue but it is kind of funny coming from someone that freely chose to pitch their book as like neon genesis evangelion meets the hunger games or whatever it was and i dont feel like the practice is a problem (in private query letters sent to agents/publishers) because it's literally just a shortcut to discussing the types of audiences it might be relevant to and proving that people would be interested in it. it can be about like themes or style or whatever as much as like ‘these stories both have robots in’ and also does not mandate that books are marketed in this way. also no one in the history of reading has ever been annoyed at the ‘if you like this you also might like this due to some shared similarity between them’ style of recommendations, i think people just object to like artlessly cobbling together as many gimmicks from popular media as you can without any attempt to replicate the meaningful storytelling elements that made the originals popular so they read your book and get disappointed when they realise you didn’t mean it was in the storytelling tradition of the hunger games or nge you just mean its a sci-fi dystopia with a girlboss in

You know...I generally don't care much about the amount of thought people liking period media put into it, specifically the social hierarchies or systems of oppression that existed during that time period. It's none of my business what people like watching/reading and how they go about enjoying it, and I myself do plenty of hand-waving about the politics of the fiction I like. Everything has its context. But then sometimes the way I hear (rational, liberal, 'woke') people around me talking about servants or 'lower' classes in some fictional thing they like and it's...it's horrifying. I (mostly) forgive that piece of fiction because it (whether accurately or not) is trying to showcase a particular period in time. But what right do you as a person living in the 21st century have for mirroring the same views though?

well the audition process is like any other audition for the most part. (i sent my 5050 audition online, their company is called attrakt and theyve been in entertainment for a while but they never debut a group before) ive only been to a few live ones. fnc and hybe geffen. hybes had us sign a nda though (not that people honored it??? it was rlly long and scary basically saying they were making a tv program and if you get accepted ((which i didnt)) you cant tell the public what the production team tells you to do) theres a panel of judges. 3 for hybe 2 for fnc and they have groups of 5 singers or dancers come in. i auditioned for singing both times and basically when you arrive you have a check in sheet then you get a number sticker. after that the judges set up you mingle with other auditinees and they call in a group of singers then dancers then singers then dance again etc. hybe's judges were two guys one woman who was really sweet and tried so hard not to be intimidating always smiling and nodding. they also had a camera man and a boom mic operator, im guessing for that reality show they havent made yet. and you had to say your name, ethnicity, and age (i said my nationality like a idiot) and i added in the title of the song i was singing then i gave a lackluster audition (lmao) however i will add both companies let people go overtime for their auditions despite saying to prepare one verse and chorus. ANDDD both said you can only audition for either vocals or dance but the judges like people who do both, theyre usually the ones who get held back.
OMG HI THANK YOU!! oh ok so it's like a general style audition, that makes a lot of sense. also omg that nda??????? and specifically that you're not allowed to say anything about what the production team tell you to do?????????? like we all know the shows are scripted but still......

Actually losing my mind at episode 7 of The Romance of Tiger and Rose, I haven't laughed like that in a long time!
Han Shuo going from jealous and angry to besotted and so completely smitten, Bai Ji coming up with the real questions ("What is wrong with them? They even considered asking Lin Qi for help before you" - excuse me while I choke to death wheezing), Zi Rui and Qianqian being all at once disaster comedic duo and badass super team...
Tumblr media
The entire Shakespearian comedy of situation with everyone arriving one after the other at the fortune lode, I was dying for all of it! And just before, Han Shuo and Qianqian arguing over who gets to get blown up and who cares the most about the other before fiiiiinally coming up with the idea of going together, I'm !!!! Losing! My! Mind.
I ADORE all the faces they make in the background, Zi Rui and Bai Ji get the gold medal for most hilarious/sassy/dumb faces, but Han Shuo comes close second with the most expressive eyebrows ever.
I am having so much fun, thank you everyone who recommended it when I asked for recs earlier.

Weird that people treat amateur writing as inherently bad and absolutely worse than published stuff because in my experience if you want good horror amateur horror is actually way better than anything published be it movies or books. Not that there's zero good horror writers, I'm no Stephen king fan but his work is undeniably popular for a reason and I enjoy the movie adaptations of a lot of his stuff. But most horror is 5 tropes in a trenchcoat with half a plot and zero characters that are memorable or likable- a symptom of the genre killing off most of the characters in the story I think but my guys I still need to like them before they get brutally murdered.
Still, amateur writing isn't inherently bad just because Jeff the Killer exists when that amateur writing also has stories like The Russian Sleep Experiment. And god knows just because someone gave a horror flick a budget of 15 million dollars (not go mention marketing budget, which usually costs about as much as the movie) doesn't mean it's good.

Do you ever wish you still had your other eye?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Calm, tesla removes his eyepatch, then his glove, running fingers over the scarred eyelid of his empty eye socket, remaining eye closing as he recalls a vivid memory. His hair was a bit longer, then. He wasn't as skilled in battle, and took a risk while underestimating his opponent. He'd been too high on adrenaline to realize what had happened in the flurry of blades and hands and claws, his Master calling his attention to his bleeding eye.
He acted fast, perhaps one of the first few instances of true care he'd been shown by the stronger Arrancar, no matter how rough and hastily he had handled him.
A sharp, quick back and forth commenced between them. It was surprisingly kind of him, in retrospect.
The eye was destroyed, really, a small but deep enough cut. It would hurt soon. A lot. There was no guarantee it would even heal correctly. Even then they knew by now that Tesla wouldn't regain his sight.
Did he want to keep a busted eye?
Of course not.
Thin, strong fingers reacted quickly to his answer, just as dull pain began to set in, digging in and pulling the eye from the socket. More blood. Tesla thinks he was too shocked to scream, or maybe he was too shocked to hear himself scream, but it hurt a lot more than the injury itself did.
He remembers opening his remaining eye to see his liege observing the eye in his red fingers, licking the bloodied orb, meeting Tesla's gaze, and promptly swallowing it whole with a wide grin.
A part of him, eternally connected to Nnoitra...
"...No. I don't miss it."

the thing is, some like it hot doesn’t HAVE to be transphobic. it doesn’t NEED to be. in fact, i’ll go one step further. if they do it right they might actually make a really good trans narrative. what the chance of them pulling that off is, i don’t know. but if you’re familiar with the film, and familiar with which actors were cast as which leads..yeah they might transify j. harrison ghee’s character. they MIGHT.
