"In the end it is character, not cleverness that counts," Violet Markham wrote of George V after his death, "Goodness and simplicity, not analytical subtlety and the power to spin verbal webs."
The key to understanding King George V lies in his character , his common sense, his compassion, his kindliness, his patriotism, his tendency to be considerate rather than condescending, to be without prejudice except on behalf of his humblest subjects, for whom he consistently interceded with less sympathetic minsters.
Excerpt from the book "Eminent Georgians", by John Halperin

Did queen Mary accuse queen Alexandra of theft in regard to some jewelries?
Hi anon!
Not theft exactly…
Once King Edward VII died, George and Mary had some trouble getting Alexandra out of Buckingham palace and to hand over the jewels that belonged to the Queen (not herself personally) as she had become quite attached to them.
The poor woman was mourning her husband and was quite reluctant to suddenly be moved.
I do believe George and Mary gave her space for as long as they could, but as tradition stands it is the reigning King and Queen who reside in the Palace as so eventually (after quite a lot of persuading if I recall right) Alexandra finally moved out and took up permanent residence in Sandringham (which G and M were perfectly happy to concede was HER home as Edward VII built it for her, even though it did belong to the Crown).
So no, not exactly theft, but I do believe both G and M were getting a little frustrated that Alix was holding up the entire transition by refusing to move. That’s why, when George V died, Mary moved out almost immediately into Marlborough House in order to not impede the process.
Hope this help!

"His hair was always brushed with care, his beard neatly trimmed and anointed with lavender water, his manicured hands protected by gloves when shooting.
Almost at death's door in 1928, he insisted on sending for a looking glass. He liked to have his family round him as he completed the ritual of dressing for dinner: the winding of the watch, the touch of scent on the handkerchief, the last adjustment to white tie and Garter star. It was as if the centuries had rolled away and the Sun King reigned once more at Versailles."
