So all you need to do to make a Sailor Guardian OC is to tie them to a planet/star/asteroid/some other thing in space, and give them elemental powers tied to the name/theme of that thing in space. (“Element” here being a loose term because even among the core cast you have stuff like Time and Death.)
This gets more interesting when the Stars Arc reveals other planets that are completely fictional like Kinmoku and Mau. So overall, you can literally make whatever kind of Guardian with whatever theme you want.
I should try making some sometime…

Are there Sailor scouts after Stars or just planets and moons?
There are the three Sailor Starlights. Sailor Star Fighter, Sailor Star Healer, and Sailor Star Maker.
Sailor soldiers get their powers from Sailor Crystals, and so far as we can tell it seems like Sailor Crystals are always associated with a celestial feature of some kind. I usually assume there has to be a specific celestial body (a star or planet), but that’s not ever confirmed and the naming schemes leave a lot of questions.
Whether the Starlights are named after specific stars in the region of space they are from or named after Stars In General is unclear. Or maybe they have the sailor crystals of planets but just have star themed names.
Both they and Sailor Kakyuu are from the planet Kinmoku, but none of them are “Sailor Kinmoku”. Presumably Kakyuu has the sailor crystal of the planet Kinmoku. Maybe it a three-star planetary system? With a single planet? Who knows! We never see it.
There’s also Sailor Cosmos and Sailor Galaxia, which are named after not-planet, not-moon things. But we know for a fact that Sailor Cosmos is a future version of Sailor Moon, and also carries the Silver Crystal. And as for Galaxia, we know from the manga she does have a planet she comes from and was meant to be tasked with protecting, but that doesn’t mean her Sailor Crystal is from that planet, per se.
Then AGAIN, I maintain the Silver Crystal isn’t even the sailor crystal of our moon. Queen Serenity, its original bearer, was an immigrant to our solar system, after all. It makes more sense that Chibi-Moon’s pink crystal is actually the true sailor crystal associated with our moon, and the silver crystal is from Somewhere Else.
And of course the Asteroid Senshi, Sailor Juno, Pallas, Vespa, and Ceres are named for asteroids.
There is no Sailor Sun or Sailor Sol, though. And while the character Helios is associated with the sun, we don’t get any indication he has a Sailor Crystal like Tuxedo Mask does.
So, to summarize the infodumping: there are Sailor senshi named for stars in some form, but no confirmed cases of them being named after specific individual stars. But there’s no reason I can think of that there couldn’t be.
So if you want to make up some fan character like Sailor Polaris or something, I say go for it!

:Name & Meaning:
To hide on Earth, the Princess took the name Hannah Girasole, claiming to be an Italian exchange student. Hannah is an Earth name of Hebrew origin that means ‘grace’, and Girasole is the Italian word for ‘Sunflower’, a bright yellow flower known for its beauty and resilience.
:Age & Birthday:
In Earth years, she is eighteen years old and was born August 21.
:Appearance:
Hannah can always be recognised at a distance by her bright orange hair that seethes like fire. She stands 5’1, and it’s thigh length, curtain straight with fan shaped buns and two thick locks framing her heart shaped face. Her eyes that blaze like stoked embers and her peach coloured cheeks have a high blush when she thinks she's being teased.
As royalty, she always felt stifled but now that she’s on Earth she’s excited to choose her own wardrobe. She has a 70’s flare, loving romper suits in colours and patterns. She also accents her outfits with glass crystal that refracts rainbow arcs as they remind her of home.
:Personality:
Hannah is a hard headed person who thinks she only needs herself. It was how she was raised, her father demanded her strength as feelings would make her fallible. Her own wants and needs must always come second to those of her people.
She is afraid of being seen as frail or useless. Although she acts with kindness she keeps people at a distance and doesn’t encourage friendship. To rely on others is to admit weakness and as Queen it is her responsibility to bear the burdens of others, not the other way around.
Earth has opened her eyes. Without her father watching over her she is slowly allowing herself to experience freedom to choose her own happiness and wellbeing and a warm light within her is beginning to shine! She now has others, and is slowly learning the power that friendship, love and trust can give.
:Likes:
Tiramisu, music, tea, coffee, pedicures, cooking and Seiya!
:Dislikes:
Eggs, doctors, long hours of studying!
:Hobbies:
Since coming to Earth everyone has encouraged Hannah to discover herself. She enjoys working in the school gardens, the soil between her fingers and is in awe of the explosive growth of the sunflowers! Usagi and Makoto have shown her how to scrapbook which she has found as a way to show her feelings and collect her thoughts. She also has a knack for videogames and wastes her days with Usagi at the Game Centre Crown.
She also spends a lot of her time staring at the sky. She enjoys the peace of the stars, but loves the explosive colours of fireworks!
Tumblr media
She loves going to Seiya's concerts; just hearing his music takes away her worries.

Relationships
╚═══*.·:·.☽✧    ✦    ✧☾.·:·.*═══╝
:Family:
Born the only daughter of King Ciro and Queen Leon, she was their pride and joy. Her mother was always of a delicate condition but lavished her daughter with love and attention, playing and singing and telling her the stories of the Sailor Guardians and Ianna’s last great protector. She died when Princess Leonessa was four years old and has since become a hazy memory of warmth and refuge.
 Her father was more serious about the responsibilities of her mantle which also made Leonessa resolute in her duties. She worked hard to make her father proud, studying and practising. Leonessa is twisted by guilt that the last time she defied her father it cost him his life. She must become the best Guardian she can be and save her legacy.
:Friends:
Although she is getting to know all the senshi, after landing disoriented and sobbing, she’s taken in by Makoto who becomes her best friend and Earth guide. The pair share her apartment and love to discover recipes. Hannah has fallen in love with the cheesy Italian dish called polenta! Makoto introduces Hannah to the school garden and encourages her to grow sunflowers but mostly she tries to distract her from her constant need to train.
Tumblr media
Hannah has a more confused relationship with Usagi, a girl who shares her destiny as ruler of their Kingdoms. Usagi is cheerful, carefree and easily distracted. The Sun Princess is frustrated by her disorganised and undisciplined way of solving problems, but envies the joy she brings to those around her.
She has also been taken under the wing of the Kou family. They treat her like a little sister, Yaten playfully teases her adapting to Japanese custom and Taiki praises her dedication to returning to Pairidaeza. Seiya has become especially protective of her, seeing the same light that shines in their favourite princesses.
:Rivals:
When Hannah landed the Outer’s were patrolling the Earth in the form of concerts and racing tours. When they returned they immediately greeted Hannah with suspicion. Not only did they consider her a trespasser to their system there was something about her Sunstone that interrupted the powers of the Talisman, the Holy Grail and thus Sailor Moon’s Eternal transformation. They dislike how Usagi immediately welcomes her and while they don’t view her as an enemy, the Pairidaeza may not be allies.
 It wasn’t until Sailor Moon achieved her new transformation did they begin to trust her.
:Love Interests:
Princess Leonessa was stubbornly resolute, always wanting to show that she could do things by herself and prove she could be the Queen her father wanted.
Seiya Kou started as a clingy brother figure and a distraction, and as Sailor Star Fighter she was overprotective, constantly interrupting her training as Sailor Ianna.
But as Hannah grew, Seiya loved to share all the wonderful things Earth had to offer and a heady freedom she never felt in the palace of Ianna. These experiences drew them closer together despite the knowledge that they would eventually have to go back to their homes.
:Sexual Orientation:
Love was not something she had considered before Earth, but she knows that her feelings do not change whether they are male and human, or female and a Sailor Guardian.
:Background:
In the Pairidaeza (means Heavenly Garden in Sumerian) Star System, known to us as Alpha Centauri, Princess Leonessa was born the only daughter to King Ciro and Queen Leon; their hope and the future.
For a time their lives in Palazzo Del Sole (Sunlight Palace) were perfect. Each night Queen Leon would sing her lullabies and tell her stories of the great protector of Ianna, and King Ciro would watch over them both although harrumphed at the frivolous fairytales.
Sadly it wasn’t to last and when Princess Leonessa was four, her mother succumbed to a wasting illness.
Wrought by loss, King Ciro pulled his daughter tighter. He became protective and knew it was his responsibility to raise his daughter into the Queen he knew she could be; poise and politics, law and integrity.
The older she grew the more distant her memory of her mother became until one day when she was fourteen she sat at her mother's old duchess and a sunflower shaped jewel drew her attention. As she reached for it, it reacted to her touch, blazing with a warm golden light and a power she’d never felt before. Her father snatched it away with a fearful look in his eyes. She promised him she’d never touch it again.
Princess Leodessa grew into a sunny, energetic young lady working endlessly for her people. One day while meeting her people she was introduced to a shepherd named Tummuz. He declared his undying love and petitioned the king for her hand. King Ciro laughed good naturedly but dismissed the idea.
A bitterness overtook the shepherd, he left the planet but he returned with unbelievable power and a coterie called the Judges of Kur, a rogue planet beyond their borders. They demanded Princess Leonessa as a bride. They ravage the land and demand the Princess as their prize.
Desperate to stop the carnage, Leonessa snuck out to confront Tummuz and offer herself in exchange for peace but before the transfer could be made King Ciro interceded, sacrificing himself for his beloved daughter.
As the light faded from his eyes, he pressed Queen Leon’s precious crystal into the princess’s hands. A glow enveloped her before she could say goodbye; she was thrust across space to awaken see on Earth.

Guardian Form
╚═══*.·:·.☽✧    ✦    ✧☾.·:·.*═══╝
:Name:
Sailor Ianna
:Guardian Starseed:
 It was said to be lost to myth, merely a dull artefact that sat on her mother’s mantle but when Princess Leonessa teleported to Earth the Crystal awoke and bonded with her starseed. It was known by many names. The Golden Light Stone, the Sunstone, the Crystal Sunflower; but within it lies the burning bright power of Ianna.
:Realm of Influence:
Sailor Ianna powers reflects blazing sunlight, vibrant sunflowers and takes the vision of lions with manes burning like solar flares.
:Guardian Animal:
As Princess Leonessa walked the halls of Palazzo Del Sole, Sir Luca (means Bringer of Light) was her constant companion and a knight of her royal court. He was a lamasso, a winged lion that is a symbol of the Ianna royal family. He is a loyal soldier and servant. He defended Queen Leon and will shield Princess Leonessa with his life.
He will not give up his dad jokes.
In his lamasso form stands at shoulder height with a bronzed pelt, brass wings and a flaming golden mane. His roar can clear a concert hall and leave grown men quivering in fear. He is a fierce defender in any fight against the enemy.
He’s frustrated by the Princess’s need to do things on her own, disregarding his advice and confronting the Seven Judges at every chance. He is even more outraged that in order to blend in on Earth she demands he take the form of a sandy coloured maine coon. He hisses, spits, scowls and swaggers at group meetings but standing a little over a foot robs his threats of disembowelment of their power.
He smirks at Artemis and makes showoff, flirty winks at Luna but is equally trying to foil Seiya’s flirting with Hannah.
:Allies/Team Mates:
Despite the newly minted Sailor Ianna’s independent declaration to take the Seven Judges head on by herself, she still needs help.
The Inners have become wonderful teachers, helping her hone the strength and accuracy of her new attacks and tell her tales of their past victories.
What’s more is that after seeing the death of their own princess, the Starlights have taken it upon themselves to act as her missing defenders. While infuriated by their ‘wrap her in bubblewrap’ approach to protection, Sailor Ianna eventually sees it for the genuine affection it is and as her experience grows they put more faith in her ability to take care of herself.
:Henshin Item:
Sailor Ianna has a matching pair of armcuffs that appeared to her when she confronted one of the Judges for the first time. To a civilian eye they look like wired armbands twisted in the shape of sunflowers but anyone with a magical eye sees them for what they are. White circlets ringed in gold and hemmed in gold droplets, with amber diamond jewels with princess cut facets. It sits at a sunflower of gold petals and a ruby hexagram star.  When she transforms, Hannah crosses her arms across her chest to press each jewel and shout her henshin phrase.
Tumblr media
:Henshin Phrase:
Ianna Sun Power!
:Henshin Sequence:
Ianna crosses her arms across her chest to press the jewels of her cuffs and shouts Ianna Sun Power! Sunflower petals, dust motes and golden rays of sunlight and whirling erupt from them.
They spin around her in a whirlwind. They twirl past, she kicks out her legs and the petals cling to form her boots. Rays of light explode from her waist coalescing into her belt which then spill forth into her scarlet skirt in rippling satin waves. The golden sunflower petals continue to tumble, pressing against her chest and fuse into her golden plate armor. Light beams erupt from her chest to form her peach coloured bow and scarlet sailor collar.
Finally the camera pans up behind her head and her flaming waves of hair. The motes of sunlight tangle like beads around her fan shaped buns to form their decorations. The camera spins to focus on her forehead where the symbol of Ianna shines like the sun and then melts into her toothed tiara.
 Finally she stands powerful as the guardian of Ianna, Sailor Ianna ready to do battle.
:Symbol:
Tumblr media
:Guardian Challenge:
“The light of the sun rises up! Hear me roar in the name of love and justice! I, Sailor Ianna, will take you down!”
:Guardian Fuku:
The Pairidaeza fuku silhouette looks similar to the Sol fuku but is more striking and colorful.
Pinning her fan shaped buns are toothed bands. Her tiara is white with scarlet bands and a toothed pattern. Her sailor collar is scarlet with a darker maroon stripe. Peach coloured bows are set on her chest and back. Her bodice is white with translucent puff sleeves, a scarlet corset and gold V-d armor plating protecting her midriff. Encircling her upper arms, wrists, thighs and waist are white metal bands with gold trim. Her thigh high boots are maroon.
:Weapon:
When the fight was bleak, Sailor Ianna was able to reach inside herself and manifest the ancestral talisman of the Ianna royal family; the Blade of Light. It is a long double edged sword made of the legendary sun-gold metal the Pairidaeza metalsmiths are famous for. Its hilt bears the family crest of jewel and sunflower, ruby coloured crossguard and with red grip crisscrossed in gold ribbon. The pommel is also decorated with rope tassels.

Ultimate Passion of the Light Lion.
:Attacks:
:Floret Sun Storm:
Ianna smiles, spectral petals of light blossom from her waist, more and more as she spins until as they sunder and rain down on the enemy in a hail of flaming petals.
:Light Overdrive!:
Ianna appears curled up with the outline of a sunflower behind her. Light beads down from the sky, collecting in the center where Ianna glows brighter and brighter. Suddenly she unfurls with blazing glare of light to blind the enemy.
:Ianna Lion Roar Flare:
Ianna stands with her arms by her side, her hair sprayed out behind her, swirling like a flaming lion’s mane. Each tendril glows with a golden light and as Ianna raises her arms out from her side leaving glowing trails. As her hands twine above her head, the glowing tendrils of her hair look like the brilliant corona of the sun and as she cries the word “Blaze!” they flare to life and lash the enemy.

A scene from a future chapter of The Stars In Their Courses:
The first sign of trouble for Kinmoku was not from noise but from silence. The patrol fleets of Kinmoku's army in the outer system was there to guard against threats. They saw shadows materialize in space and then something massive and red-shaped appeared and opened fire with golden light to a terrible laughter that was silent in the void and there were balls of flame that expanded outward and nothing.
The Starlights had transformed then and their Princess was confused.
"What could it be?" She had stared with simple bemusement. "Nothing acts like that exc-" She'd gone silent then and pale and wide-eyed, a hand going to her mouth. "So the story's real after all," she breathed.
"What story?" Star Fighter's voice crackled with her restless energy, wanting nothing but to throw herself at the enemy.
"The Soul-Harvester. Galaxia."
They froze.
"That's a myth."
Kakyuu shook her head.
"For a myth she's quite substantial."
She pointed to the thing that had registered itself in the wards of Kinmoku itself, appearing 'beneath' the three moons from which the Starlights drew their power. The vast flagship of the Shadow Galactica, the Harvest-chamber where the star-seed of dead Senshi sat on shelves in eternal silent screams unless they were given to the murderers of Senshi and transformed into the Animate-monsters that led her armies.
Magic let them see the ship.
It also let them see something impossible, a being that stood on the hull of the ship, leaning on a great sword. Small, next to the ship. Golden-armored.
Then she put the sword on her belt and spread her arms and leaped from it.
"Madness," Star Healer said.
Above them a streak of fire fell from Heaven, the harbinger of the Soul-Harvester's arrival.
"Not madness," Kakyuu said faintly. "My grandmother's stories were right. She'd said she defeated Galaxia with the death of the old Starlights and went to war with Serenity of Luna and died where Serenity lived."
Her lips were thin.
"Galaxia didn't keep her star-seed, which is why I'm here."
Her eyes narrowed.
"And now the myth is falling from Heaven."
------
The streak of fire descended on the capital of Kinmoku with a dreadful inevitablity. Gun platforms fired with the greatest force that Kinmoku's technology could muster. Against Galaxia it did no good, and she laughed within the bubble of flame as she fell with the clang of a funeral bell and a vast cratered impact, shattering one of the central streets of Kinmoku's capital.
She strode from the cloud of dust and fire unfazed by the dramatic element of her revival, her sword out at her side.
"Sweet, sweet vengeance and then a new world to ravage and to toy with."
Galaxia's gaze looked around her with disdain as she curled her lip.
"Two Queens ago the Planet of Fragrant Olives defeated me and then the bitch that helped to throw me out dared to go with Serenity to the Galaxy Cauldron."
Her eyes lit on Kakyuu.
"The Light of Luna is reborn and this time I will cut down the children of Kinmoku and prevent the old alliance from forming."
"The Hell you will!"
Sailor Star Fighter lunged at Galaxia, shouting
Star Serious Laser!
A bright blue beam slammed into Galaxia's breastplate as she stood with her hands on her hips, one closed around the hilt of her blade. When nothing happened she smiled, and then her hand grasped Sailor Star Fighter's throat.
"Just as impetuous as you were when this star seed was two hosts ago." She gave Star Fighter a cold and malevolent sneer and then lightly let her go before hauling back and punching her through five buildings of Kinmoku's capital. The other two Starlights moved to rush her then as she kept the blade idle in front of her.
"One at a time or all four of you together, makes no difference. Your world is doomed, and so are you."

Close to you (2/7)
Yay chapter 2! Please enjoy y’all!
Also a huge thank you to @hoshi-and-hikari for spearheading SeiUsa week ❤️ You’re so great!!!
~~~
I must have walked on To meet you
---
“Where is she? Is she in there?”
“Yes.”
Seiya bowed once he heard the sound of footsteps nearing. He could make out the hem of her white robe in his top peripheral vision before she stopped.
“Hello! You are the guardian from the bar?”
The voice was sweet and inviting which lowered his inner guard by a level. After straightening back up, he tried not to give much more thought that she looked just as gorgeous as she did on television and in pictures.
“Yes, I am, your highness.”
She gasped with a hand over her mouth, causing him to feel the body slam of self-consciousness.
“You’re… a man.” She moved the hand to her chest.
Seiya blinked, unsure of how to reply. But he knew he had to give her something, so he shrugged with a half-smile. “Guilty.”
Serenity relaxed. “I’m sorry. I just thought all guardians were female.”
“That’s true.” He cleared his throat. “We just use this appearance as a protective measure.”
“Huh!” Most intrigued, she then turned toward the two guardians at the door.
“Uranus, please remove his handcuffs.”
“Serenity, I wouldn’t recommend that.” The blonde started walking toward them.
“Why?”
“Because he could hurt you!”
“And I’ve never been able to take care of myself when, exactly?” Already over it, she pointed at Seiya. “Take them off.”
Uranus acquiesced with a huff, producing a small key from inside her boot and removing the shackles. Seiya didn’t waste the opportunity to give her a smug, victorious smirk whenever she was looking.
Serenity beamed. “Thank you, Uranus. That’ll be all for tonight.”
Uranus was about to protest once more, but the look from her highness already told her that her mind was made up. Scoffing and grumbling, the guardian stomped off and out the door.
Neptune, entertained by the whole scene, walked up to place the plastic grocery bag on the table.
“These are his things. Good night, my queen.” She then took her leave.
Once alone, Serenity released a breath as if she had been holding it for a while. “I love those two but they can be so intense.” She then extended a hand toward Seiya’s chair with a smile. “Please sit!”
He obeyed as she took her own seat beside him. Having carried a large crystal pad with her, she laid it aside on the table to give attention to the contents inside the plastic bag. The first item she grabbed was his cell phone, which itself was a smaller translucent rectangle of crystal. She placed it to the side before going for the next item: his transformation headset.
“Ooh, this is interesting!” Her face lit up as she turned it in all directions for inspection. Figuring out that it went on her ear, she did just that, and then put her hands on her hips and moved her shoulders.
“I feel like a pop star!”
Seiya laughed, his heart melting at her unqueenly yet endearing behavior.
She moved the mouthpiece up and down. “So you use this to transform?”
He nodded. “Yes.”
“And it’s ‘Fighter Star Power?’”
His blue eyes widened, scared she was psychic. “Yes, how did you know?”
“There are videos of you transforming on the news.” She giggled as she removed the headset from her ear and placed it on the table. “That was quite a mess you were in.”
A blush appeared on his cheeks as he scratched his head. Despite knowing he wasn’t at fault, he still felt embarrassed.
“But,” she continued, “that’s also how I found out you were here. So something good came out of it at least.” She bit her lip as her eyes twinkled at him. “Are you okay, though?”
“Yes. Just a little banged up, but I’ll be fine.”
“The doctors said you should be healed in a few weeks. So you will stay here until you do.”
“Here? In the palace?” His eyes widened while he shook his head. “I couldn’t, your highness—”
“I insist. I can have doctors check on you daily to aid in your recovery.”
He gulped and kept quiet, afraid to refuse the queen again in case it carried a death sentence.
Interpreting his silence as acceptance, she grabbed her crystal pad and tapped on it to reveal a digital screen. “So tell me… Fighter… do you have a civilian name?”
“It’s Seiya Kou.”
“And where are you from, Seiya Kou?”
“All over.” He chuckled. “But our home is Kinmoku.”
“Our?”
“Oh yeah, there’s three of us!” Seiya had forgotten about Taiki and Yaten for the moment. Whoops.
She gasped in excitement. “Wow! Three of you? Where are they?”
“They’re, uh…” he scratched his head again, “in a detention center.”
“Ohh right, right…” The realization dawned on her. “I’ll make sure to have them brought here. I’d like to meet them, too.” She tapped around on the pad in different places, interspersed with some scrolling. “What was the name of your home again?”
“Kinmoku.”
“Kin… mo… ku…” After more tapping, she squinted her eyes in an effort to process the information that populated on her screen. Several moments passed before they widened in tandem with the smacking of her tongue.
“Wow… you’ve come a very, very long way, Seiya.”
“Not by choice…”
She nodded in agreement. “It says here that Kinmoku was one of the initial planets attacked by Galaxia.”
He had no words as his response, only rage, evident by his tight jaw and loud gulp.
Picking up on the heaviness of his energy, Serenity continued. “I don’t know if you know, but Crystal Tokyo has an open policy for refugees, even from an attack as long ago as Galaxia. I can have you registered as an asylum seeker—”
“With all due respect, your highness, we’re not here to seek asylum.” The sternness in his voice was palpable.
In attempts to maintain sympathy for his shift in emotion, and keep hers relatively stable, she placed her pad down and leaned back in her chair. “Then what do you seek?”
His gaze fell. “I can say what we don’t seek… is trouble. So we’ll leave this planet immediately. I’m sorry for wasting your time.”
“No, please!” Serenity leaned over, placing a gentle, desperate hand on top of his as if it were to stop him should he stand up. Eagerness met ambivalence as each pair of blue eyes stared deeply into the other.
“I’m the one that called you here.” She continued. “I want to know your story.”
The power of touch was a phenomenon that made his heart pump wildly to the point of confession. But it was taking his mind a while to trust her, so Serenity resumed her verbal coaxing.
“Seiya… I want to help you and I can’t if you don’t talk to me.” She squeezed his hand and bit into her lips. “As one guardian to another, let me help you.”
He sighed, having to reach deep within to find his words and courage.
“It’s our princess. We're looking for our princess.”
Serenity nodded, resting her elbows on her knees and her chin in her hands, ready to listen.
Seiya continued. “She fled when Galaxia attacked. We decided she would go first and we would follow. We had a plan to meet at a neighboring planet but… when we got there, Galaxia had already ravaged through it, just like ours. And our princess was nowhere to be found.” He rubbed his sweaty palms on his thighs, breathing through the trauma of the memories.
“And so we went on to the next planet, and then the next one… Each destination was based on hunches and hearsay mostly, looking for any hint that she was there or had been there.”
Serenity cocked her head. “How did you go about trying to find her once you were on a planet?”
“Singing. She really loves music.” He flashed a smile. “We sing familiar songs to try to draw her to us. And if they’re catchy enough, we hope that the locals might pass them along too, and maybe she’ll hear it and know we’re out there and haven’t given up.”
She nodded before looking down, almost afraid to ask. “Have you… considered the fact… that maybe she’s...”
“Yes, we have. We check for death records regularly wherever we end up.” He answered over her, sparing her awkwardness. “But we just so happened to catch a merchant on ætSe-18 who had sold a royal incense burner to someone here from Earth. He couldn’t confirm it was Kinmokian, but the way he described it—its design and scent—there’s no mistake it’s from Kinmoku.”
“How would the burner lead you to her?”
“She also harnesses the power of stars and can take on other forms. Her incense burner was her favorite hiding spot. She must have taken it with her when she fled, or at least that’s what we hope. It’s our only hope at this point.”
Moved by the story, a distant smile spread upon her lips, and she relaxed into her chair. “She must be quite a princess for you to spend ten years looking for her.”
He shook his head with a smile. “I know no other purpose.”
Serenity paused to give her mind a few moments to think before sitting upright with resolution written all over her face.
“We should get some sleep then. Tomorrow is a big day.”
Seiya’s face blinked into confusion. “Is it?”
The beam on her face lit up the whole room as she nodded and winked. “It’s the Queen’s Birthday Festival tomorrow. We’ll need our strength to celebrate.”
A smirk twitched on the side of his mouth. “Oh right. I remember that being advertised.”
“It’ll be a fun time. And I’m sure a much-needed and deserved day off for you.”
He breathed out a laugh, a twinkle forming in his eye.
“And then after that,” she continued. “We look for your princess.”
The twinkle then faded into distress. “Oh… no… no, no… It’s okay, your highness! I know you have more important things to do—”
“I’ve got people for that!” She waved a dismissive hand at him. “Plus, I said I wanted to help, so I’m going to help. You can't be going out there getting into more bar fights in your condition, and I’m sure the other guardians aren’t in that much better shape.”
He opened his mouth to speak but Serenity gave him that same look she gave Uranus earlier in the night, submitting him to speechlessness. While she seemed to make his mind spin, she also made him feel calm. Redness formed on his cheeks as he realized the subliminal control she had over him; whether it was intentional or not was a mystery, but he didn’t care.
A victorious grin spread across her face. “It’s settled then.”
Sailor Stars thoughts:
1. The anime does its absolute best to make the Starlights unlikable. Taiki is a fucking asshole (he won’t even give a dying girl, who he explicitly was taken to visit, an autograph, and tells a bunch of children that their grandfather’s theory about souls becoming stars is dead wrong), Seiya is a Nice Guy who hits on Usagi constantly despite being told multiple times she has a boyfriend, and Yaten is a mildly sarcastic cardboard cutout. I know the manga doesn’t expand on them much but the anime is supposed to help make these people real. Counterexample is Chibi-Chibi, who hardly speaks in the manga and relies on her cuteness alone to be likable. They gave her a very cute voice because it was literally all they had to work with, given how often Chibi-Chibi actually appears
2. The dub cast for the Starlights is frankly awful. As civilians, Taiki alternates between a woman trying too hard to make her voice deep and having a bad cold, Seiya sounds like a prepubescent boy, and Yaten sounds like a woman (which they’re not, as civilians); as Starlights their voices are VERY high pitched, especially Yaten’s. Their sub voices just sound like woman talking a bit deeply and then normal women.
3. Why the FUCK did Toei think literally changing sex was less controversial than crossdressing? The Starlights are women and have always been women. Plus, them being male civilians in the anime creates a paradox, because if they’re men with sailor crystals who can become senshi, why can’t Mamoru - who is confirmed multiple times throughout the series as carrying the earth’s star seed and thus being Sailor Earth - do the same? Naoko said Mamoru can’t be a sailor senshi because he’s a man, but the Starlights don’t abide by this rule, they change their fucking biological sex
4. Why is absolutely no one concerned that Chibi-Chibi, a THREE YEAR OLD, just goes off on her own and has her own little adventures? She wanders into some strange old man’s house and they’re all “oh that’s just Chibi-Chibi,” and no one is worried that a literal stranger invites a three year old into his house where he gives her toys and candy? The 90s were WILD, man
5. Why does Chibi-Chibi, again who is THREE YEARS OLD, have a thigh gap?
6. This one’s on Naoko because it’s like this in the manga, but the anime is supposed to expand on the universe so I blame them too: Why does literally nobody question Chibi-Chibi’s motives? Some strange pink haired child who fucking falls out of the sky one day up and brainwashes Usagi’s mom into thinking she’s her second daughter, and nobody bats an eye at this? That’s sus as fuck and literally the only question anyone has is “is she your kid or Chibiusa’s?” She doesn’t even have a NAME, “chibi” is just a random word she says!
7. I am DIGGING the mobster feel of the Animamates’ civilian forms. Especially Iron Mouse and Tin Nyanko, who clearly launder money through a shady car dealership.
8. The Starlights’ only redeeming qualities are their snazzy entrance music and Seiya’s red suit
9. Why is Aluminum Siren the only Animamate who understands that a senshi has a pure star seeds? Like, y’all killed the senshi of your home planets to take their star seeds so YOU could be senshi (which is presumably why Galaxia wants more seeds, to make more Animamates with them), shouldn’t you know that?
10. Aluminum Siren/Lead Crow are trying their damn hardest to give Harumichi a run for their money in the quest to become the Best Space Lesbians.
11. So the Moon Kingdom fosters loyalty through child soldiers. I’m assuming Queen Serenity has her own senshi in the form of our senshi’s mothers, etc. (Which begs the question of if the Asteroid Senshi are supposed to be the future kids of our senshi or if they too are child soldiers from the asteroids they’re named after.) Kinmoku seems to foster loyalty by having the Kakyuu’s senshi fall in unrequited love with her. (In the manga it’s stated Kakyuu has a husband who died when their planet was destroyed.) I mean, whatever works, right?
12. I LOVE Tin Nyanko’s dub voice. She’s only around Usagi’s age and she sounds it
13. The dub actress for Lead Crow seems like she’s half assing it. Her voice doesn’t raise properly when she yells, she never sounds really angry, and it’s just so odd. I find a lot of dub voices do this, while the original Japanese VAs will scream their lungs out into the mic
14. On the reverse, Galaxia’s voice actress is a badass. She’s supposed to have a deep menacing voice but I like the one they gave her in the dub. She’s quiet, and sounds almost kind, and that’s a fucking TERRIFYING sort of villain we don’t see a lot of. Even when she’s pissed she doesn’t raise her voice.
15. Why are Lead Crow and Tim Nyanko the same height? Lead Crow is like 5’10 and Tin Nyanko is 4’11 like Sailor Moon
16. As an aside, Tin Nyanko and Lead Crow don’t like each other, which reminds me of the cats vs crows trash can showdown in Haikyuu lol
17. Haruka’s hate boner for Seiya gives me life
18. FINALLY someone calls the Starlights out on being assholes but it’s only after Makoto sees them harassing a THREE YEAR OLD (Chibi-Chibi). Literally everyone BUT Usagi thinks they’re assholes. “They sing such beautiful songs!” Bro. You can sing pretty and still be a fucking dick.
19. Lead Crow goes after Sailor Moon only after reading Siren’s notebook. Ditzy SIREN is the smartest Animamate, lord help them
20. Kakyuu’s dub voice is SO GOOD. She’s my favorite minor character, I’m still bitter they didn’t show Sailor Kakyuu
21. Seiya’s crush on Usagi was so awkwardly shoehorned in. I hate it. Jesus fucking Christ Usagi is sobbing in the goddamn rain about how much she misses Mamoru and Seiya is STILL coming onto her.
22. It is literally so fucking funny to me that Mamoru spends all of Stars fucking dead. He’s just a perpetual damsel in distress.
23. Rei literally lectures Usagi about leading Seiya on and how “you need to do the right thing and tell him you already have someone,” AS IF USAGI HASN’T BEEN DOING THAT AT EVERY AVAILABLE OPPORTUNITY. THE FIRST TIME THEY MET SHE SAID SHE HAD A BOYFRIEND, SHE’S TOLD SEIYA OVER AND OVER THAT SHE ISN’T INTERESTED IN HIM, THAT SHE’S GOT A BOYFRIEND, THAT SHE LOVES HER BOYFRIEND. The fucking MISOGYNY here, like it’s Usagi leading Seiya on instead of Seiya being a fucking Nice Guy who can’t take no for a goddamn answer. Shut the fuck up, Rei.
24. Pretty sure under Kakyuu’s headdress is a pair of odango
25. The fact that Iron Mouse and Aluminum Siren both die when their bracelets are removed yet Tin Nyanko doesn’t implies that Tin Nyanko was the original Sailor Mau. Mouse and Siren dying implies that forcing senshi powers on a civilian is dangerous and that Galaxia’s bracelets are the only thing keeping them alive (albeit brainwashed). Yet Tin Nyanko seems to revert to “good” when one of her bracelets is destroyed. Galaxia has to intervene and kill her personally. Tin Nyanko may have offered her senshi powers to spare Mau (this applies only in the anime; in the manga she’s explicitly said to have killed Sailor Mau)
26. Oooh Galaxia’s angry voice is so commanding and sexy
27. Don’t gimme that “we love Usagi but we love you Starlights just as much.” No you fucking don’t. The whole death scene in the anime is just so... ugh. Bad.
28. The Outers fighting Galaxia is hilarious. They’re supposed to be stronger than the Inners yet Galaxia never even has to get out of her chair to kick their asses. The writers were trying real hard to make us fear the worst and back the senshi into a corner but literally they’ve made this an impossible battle to win that only becomes winnable due to plot armor.
29. Rewatching Stars and classic after Eternal and Crystal makes me miss the battle damage the fuku took. The new series always has them looking pristine, but in classic they actually get roughed up and battle scarred. It makes it more real.
30. Aww how come Uranus and Neptune got to keep their names when they joined Galaxia? I wanna know what whack ass Animamate name they would’ve gotten. (Also Galaxia literally just sent them out like Pokémon, wtf)
31. I feel like Saturn dying shouldn’t be possible since she’s literally a senshi of death but... whatever, go off I guess.
32. So.... Uranus and Neptune joining Galaxia to try and take her star seed is a cool idea that absolutely did not happen in the manga, and needed more than half an episode of development. Would’ve been a cool plot if it wasn’t so rushed.
33. So much of this season was rushed so they could tie the series up at a beat 200 episodes. If they really didn’t want to go over 200, they should’ve cut the Nehelennia arc (which isn’t in the manga anyway) and and focused on developing the Animamates, this sweet Harumichi betrayal plot, and explaining Chibi-Chibi??? Her existence makes no sense without Sailor Cosmos, and they just... didn’t include her??? Wtf
Kakyuu, Princess and Senshi (pt 1 of 2)
Princess Kakyuu is one of the more subtlety fascinating characters in Sailor Moon Stars. In the anime, she shows up then not much happens with her. However, I find her purpose in the manga to be two-fold. She’s there to explain things to Eternal Moon, but she also seems to be a representative embodiment or reflection/mirror image of Usagi. The scene I’m starting on comes at the beginning of Stars in the manga. Chibi Chibi appears and floats down to earth with an umbrella.
Tumblr media
She’s at a playground and smells something beautiful. She climbs the play-gym to find a passed out Kakyuu. Later, after she’s brainwashed her way into Usagi’s family, she brings an incense burner to Usagi’s room which Usagi says smells like sweet osmanthus, a fragrant sweet olive flower native to the Himalayas through southern China, Taiwan and southern Japan.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
We learn later that Chibi Chibi rescued Kakyuu and was protecting the censer or incense burner bc Kakyuu was healing inside of it. When the Three Lights meet Chibi Chibi, Seiya can feel something off about her and she tries to take her incense burner but she won’t give it to Seiya. Apparently the kinmoku flower from their planet is the osmanthus flower so she recognized the scent. When she tries to take it, Kakyuu makes her appearance, telling Chibi Chibi that it’s ok bc these three are precious friends of hers. Kakyuu tells them that Chibi Chibi told her about them and about Sailor Moon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It’s Kakyuu who says that she can tell that Chibi Chibi has a healing planetary power (remember my post of Cosmos, CC is Cosmos, who is the future evolution of Moon who has restorative healing power). Chibi Chibi transforms into Sailor Chibi Chibi for the first time.
Tumblr media
When Kakyuu meets Usagi, she introduces herself as First Crown Princess of Tankei Kingdom, on planet Kinmoku. She says she knows that Usagi is the heir apparent Neo Queen Serenity. When Usagi asks how she knows, Kakyuu says that “the strong and beautiful guardian warriors of the Solar System are admired by Sailor Guardians across the galaxy”. That’s gives me chills. Princess Kakyuu explains that the moment she took the Prince’s hand (in Dead Moon Arc after the golden crystal is awakened) “and exhibited the radiance of this planet’s future King and Queen...the power of that planetary light, overflowing with life force traveled through space-time (think about that for a sec...traveled through space time, so kinmoku and other guardians across the galaxy could be sensing their power from different dimensions, past-present-future lifetimes, and so on) and spread across the galaxy. It was a never-before-seen powerful, white-hot message from the Solar System.” To be continued... check out pt 2 to see why I think Kakyuu reflects Usagi.
Myu review 7: 1997 Eien Densetsu
.
.
Before continuing further, I’d just like to mention this. This review is purely based off of my personal opinion. I personally am not that fond of SenShi and since this Myu contains that ship, my comments/views differ from the majority, which is okay! Whether we agree or disagree, let’s keep the discussion civil and let’s also respect each other! Thank you and enjoy this (long) review!
.
First impression: I was actually pretty excited for this Myu!! With Stars K being so amazing and this being the second to the last Myu of the First Stage, I really expected a lot!
Impressions: Actors/Actresses
Anza Ooyama (Usagi Tsukino/Sailor Moon)- OH YES QUEEN ANZA!! She was so good in this, it’s like she saved the Myu. I really liked how she portrayed Usagi in this Myu. Sad/Mature Usagi is so essential to the Stars arc and I think Anza pulled it off pretty well especially during I Miss You and her talk with Setsuna about Mamoru. She had her fun, silly Usagi moments but I think her more sad/mature/serious moments were the highlights of her character. Her Super Sailor Moon was pretty okay!! She had the mix of funny and serious Moon which created a good balance. Her Eternal Sailor Moon is obviously my favorite. I have to say I wasn’t as impacted as I was in Stars/Stars K but her Eternal Moon was still pretty good!! She makes her so strong/powerful and also really mature and lady-like which is why I love her as that version of Moon so much. Of course, she did well in all aspects and I just really really enjoy Anza-Moon a lot!! 💕
Ayako Morino (Ami Mizuno/Sailor Mercury)- Ah s***, here we go again. I really can’t stress enough how much I don’t like boy crazy Ami. I’m not a fan of the SenShi pairings so automatically I didn’t enjoy the ZoiAmi bits. This is not Ayako’s fault of course (it’s First Stage/general Myu writing) but seeing her act it out really didn’t settle with me. Ayako’s pre-Zoisite Ami wasn’t too bad?? She kinda overdid the “innocent Ami” but that’s nothing new. I quite enjoyed her Mercury though, because she really did break out of her “innocent Ami” character and showed her true strength as Mercury. Normally with these reviews I always prefer her Mercury over Ami and it’s the same with this one. She’s either lacking or too much, really.
Misako Kotani (Rei Hino/Sailor Mars)- MISAKO WAS SO GOOD IN THIS MYU!! I love her strong and sassy Rei and all her Rei scenes were so fun and interesting to watch! I really like how her relationship with the cast is shown through certain scenes (like the teacher-director switch scene) because it really added to her charm. Just like Ayako, she was given many scenes to showcase her character/character development and I think she gave off an amazing Rei and Mars. I love her voice and her acting so much here!! I’m sad Eien K is her last Myu because I’m really starting to like her a lot :^( .
Akari Tonegawa (Makoto Kino/Sailor Jupiter)- Akari wasn’t too bad of a Makoto/Jupiter! I really love her little movements and her facial expressions because they add more to her character. Her Makoto was more on the masculine side although she had moments which showed her girly side. Her Jupiter was lacking but, it’s more on the writing than her acting. I can’t really judge her voice on the singing aspect since she didn’t have a solo but, I do have to say her voice is quite powerful. Her dancing was okay and overall, I think she did pretty well despite not having much to do!
Akiko Miyazawa (Minako Aino/Sailor Venus)- Akiko was sooo cute!! I super love her Minako!! She portrayed the perfect fangirly Stars Minako and you can definitely tell from her gestures and how her voice becomes higher than usual (which was a nice touch)! Just like Akari, her senshi counterpart was lacking due to the writing. I think she had the potential to show a really great leader Venus! As mentioned before, her Minako was amazing and I think she touched on every aspect of the character pretty well!! I’m really excited for her next performance (and future ones)!!
Yuuta Mochizuki (Tuxedo Mask/Prince Endymion/King Endymion)- Just like in the previous Stars musicals, Tuxedo Mask/Endymion was hardly present. And when he was, he was typically walking around, getting attacked, kneeling and having few lines of dialogue. Even though he didn’t do much, I still think he did well in what he was able to do!! I hope they give him much more to do in Eien K since it’ll be his last Myu as Tux!!
Sanae Kimura (Haruka Tenoh/Sailor Uranus)- Oh yes!! Sanae was pretty good in this Myu!! She’s had really good scenes especially with Hiroko because their dynamic is just that great. Her Haruka really got to shine when she was with Hiroko. Their scene in Kick Out A Bloody Mystery and Orurean no Sei Senshi really showed off Haruka’s humorous and serious/dedicated side well. Her Uranus is still pretty strong. Her scenes with Moon, the Starlights and Galaxia really highlights her strength as Uranus (especially during the betrayal). Although Uranus (and Neptune) weren’t too memorable in this Myu, I think Sanae did a pretty good job in all aspects and got to portray her character pretty decently!!
Hiroko Tahara (Michiru Kaioh/Sailor Neptune)- Hiroko is just so so good. She makes me enjoy Michiru/Neptune so much!! I really do love her dynamic with Sanae because she actually gets to shine more/take the lead at times and she isn’t just Haruka’s femme gf on the side. As mentioned before, the mystery scene and Orurean no Sei Senshi were probably her best scenes as Michiru. As for her Neptune, she had much more of an impact that before. Especially during the betrayal scene where she said she’d follow Haruka anywhere she goes (she’s basically just re-enacting the scene from Act 1), it really felt genuine and I felt like she encapsulated Neptune and her emotions very well. She’s pretty great in all aspects and again, Uranus and Neptune weren’t too memorable in the Myu but she got to pull of her character pretty well!!
Rei Saitou (Setsuna Meioh/Sailor Pluto)- Oh my gosh I love Rei!! I really loved her scenes where she talked about spending her entire life alone yet still believing in love (or something like that). She really encapsulated Pluto’s loneliness and strength as a person and a soldier. She’s also had her funny moments which gave her a good balance of being humorous and serious. Her voice is amazing and she still dances pretty well!! Overall she did really great!! I super duper love her Pluto!
Chihiro Imai (Hotaru Tomoe/Sailor Saturn)- I think Chihiro did okay for her first and last role!! But I do think she could’ve done better. She captures child Hotaru a bit better than Keiko since she’s younger although, her delivery wasn’t too good at times. There were some points where she would sound emotionless and her movements were also kinda stiff. She has a good voice (especially for her character) but the way she says “Saturn” in To A Brand New World bothered me just a tiny bit. But otherwise, I think she was pretty okay!!
Mao Kawasaki (Chibi Chibi/Sailor Chibi Chibi)- I’m so glad Mao returned for this Myu although, her role as Chibi Chibi was very minor. Since Mao had exposure playing a child role in the past (Chibiusa), I think she was able to keep her acting pretty child-like. She didn’t have as much freedom as she did as Chibiusa but her monologue as Sailor Chibi Chibi and her song “Mou ii no” really amazed me!! She was really good!!
Sayuri Katayama (Seiya Kou/Sailor Star Fighter)- Oh my gosh can I just yell about how charming Sayuri’s Seiya is?? She got a good balance of leader Seiya/Fighter and soft/caring and charming Seiya/Fighter. I think her best moments were with Usagi (I Miss You) the other Starlights (Kick Out A Bloody Mystery) and Kakyuu (Kakyuu Ouhi to Three Lights). I think she captured more of the manga Seiya while having some bits of anime Seiya as well. To be honest, her strongest character is Seiya. Her Fighter had the leadership and care/concern but honestly, it doesn’t strike as much presence as her Seiya does. She has such an amazing singing voice and she dances pretty well so yeah!! I loved Sayuri!!
Hikari Ono (Taiki Kou/Sailor Star Maker)- Um...😔👉👈...I REALLY LOVE MY GIRL A LOT. She was so good okay. Honestly, she makes me less annoyed at Taiki altogether. She’s had her moments as the know-it-all (a.k.a ((sorry, language)) smartass) Taiki but she also had her funny/laid back moments too. I loved her scenes with Momoko or the Kinmoku gang because we really get to see the true character of Taiki/Maker which Hikari portrayed very well. I was surprised she had such a strong Maker because she didn’t really do much as her for the past 2 Myus!! She has the dedication (to mostly) Kakyuu and a strong will. Her singing is great and so was her dancing!! So yes 8/8 my girl did great!!
Momoko Okuyama (Yaten Kou/Sailor Star Healer)- Momoko is the CUTEST Yaten and you can’t convince me otherwise. I was watching the Stars anime when I watched this Myu and her Yaten was a breath of fresh air from her anime counterpart. She’s had her sassy moments but she was such a goof ball in almost all her scenes!! From solving mysteries to deciding on who the next leader of the Three Lights is, she was just so fun to watch! Her Star Healer was very strong and caring! I think she did pretty well in all aspects and I just love her!!
Sakoto Yoshioka (Princess Kakyuu)- YES FINALLY A KAKYUU!! I loved Sakoto!! She has such an amazing voice and I’m so glad they gave her more than one song to sing in this Myu! She really has the “other worldly” presence that Kakyuu has when she makes her first appearance. She was also very kind and motherly but in a different kind of way than Setsuna. She portrays Kakyuu’s emotions so well and she moves so gracefully which really made her capture Kakyuu’s character!! I’m looking forward to seeing her again in Eien K!
Tamami Matsumoto (Sailor Galaxia)- She's definitely different from Saori!! She has a lot more power and a lot more stage presence. She shows off Galaxia's dominant and villainous side really well. Although, I think she’s too mature for Galaxia. I see Galaxia as an intelligent kid but with lack of experience. Tamami’s Galaxia seemed like a queen figure (like Beryl or Nehelenia) who’s seeking revenge when she’s really just someone new to the scene. Nonetheless, I think she portrayed Galaxia well especially with her movement and her voice! And her reformed Galaxia was just as great!
Shadow Galatica (as a whole)- I’m surprised they didn’t include Iron Mouse in this one but even Aluminum Siren and Lead Crow considering that the Stars anime already ended by then and people should know Shadow Galactica but oh well I guess. They removed Pewter Fox as well for some reason but they made up for these losses with Tin Nyanko and Mitis (formerly known as Titanium) Keroko! Both Toni and Megumi did such amazing jobs portraying their characters in all aspects. Sailor Chi, Phi and Theta were amazing dancers and complimented scenes really well. I enjoyed them a lot!
Ryuji Kasahara (Kyaos/Chaos)- Don’t get me wrong, I love Ryuji as an actor and I did enjoy him in this role! But I really didn’t like the build/the writing for Chaos. In the manga he’s just like any other final boss at the end of each arc and since Chaos is the very last villain, he should be portrayed as the most evil creature to exist. Ryuji usually plays playful villains which is probably why they had to rewrite Chaos’ character. The teacher/director Kyaos was really fun to watch and he really played the two really well!! I just wish we could’ve gotten more of a serious/powerful Chaos from him.
Yuri Nishina (Queen Beryl)- So glad they brought her back from Gaiden! She makes an excellent Beryl!! Her voice is really suited for her character and she really shows the evilness of Beryl so well. She doesn’t do much dancing so her only movements are just swaying her arms when she attacks. That aspect kind of bothers me a bit in some scenes because it looks so lazily done even if her lines/scenes hold so much emotion. Regardless, I enjoyed her evil Queen Beryl as much as her reformed Beryl! She did well in both!!
Hidetaka Asano (Kunzite) & Akira Tomemori (Zoisite)- OH YES MY SHITENNOU BOYS!! I mean this time we only have half of them, but it kinda works! Zoisite had more of a role than Kunzite since he somewhat pursued a relationship with Ami. Due to that, Zoisite showed more of his masculine side than feminine side which really changed the atmosphere around his character. Kunzite on the other hand, was less of a leader and more of a casual person. Despite these, I think both Akira and Hidetaka were able to carry on their characters very well! They delivered their lines confidently and they have good singing and movement! I really enjoyed their performance!!
.
.
.
The story: I’m gonna change this part up! Normally I’d tell the story while inserting my opinions in at certain points but since Eien is longer than previous Myus (I think this one’s 2 hours?), I’ll just give my opinions on the story instead.
It was SO MESSY. This is like the first Stars Myu but even messier. The best way I can describe this story is that they fused both interpretations (anime and manga) of the Dark Kingdom and Stars Arc but also kinda tried to revise Stars K? There was just so much going on in general. Some parts can be understood if you’ve seen the anime or read the manga (or both) but if you’re a Myu-only person then maybe those things may seem unclear/unnoticeable.
[ACT 1]
I’m assuming this is because of the 2 hour time mark but Act 1 was super long. It kinda felt dragging at times. They also inserted a scene that wasn’t really necessary which was the “Little Match Girl” scene with (who I’m assuming is) Chihiro. It was just her talking to this entity (I think it’s Beryl?) while lighting her last match. The entity was talking about how darkness is gonna swallow up the world and how that last match won’t help her (which it didn’t) and through that, Queen Beryl got resurrected. Do you get what I mean??
But aside from that, the rest of Act 1 was just okay. It was a super long act and since there was so much in it, I didn’t find the transitions from scene to scene to be well executed. I think each Senshi/character got a fair amount of screen time although some didn’t really do much. All the musical numbers and scenes were great!! It’s just that there’s too much, really.
[ACT 2]
Act 2 was way shorter. By this point you should be getting the story but I still didn’t understand what I was watching. There was definitely a shift in atmosphere between the acts as Act 1 was more lively and fun (although it had a few serious moments) while Act 2 was more heavy and probably tried to focus on the story more. Most characters were well developed by then until we discover that some of them get redeemed or some of them are actually evil (or maybe they were pretending to be evil but were just good all along). I’d have to say that I preferred this section of the story more than the first. It just seems more well put together although it still hardly makes any sense. The unexpected shift of stance from the villains (evil to good or “good” to (very) evil) was a nice touch on their part. All in all, I think Act 2 or just the ending of the Myu really wrapped up everything pretty well. Despite all the many ups and downs, the ending was actually quite decent.
If you want to know about the story, I suggest you read the ‘97 Eien page on the SM Wiki: https://sailormoon.fandom.com/wiki/Pretty_Soldier_Sailor_Moon_%7E_Eternal_Legend
Overall opinion: As much as I really wanted to like this Myu, I can't. I had a hard time understanding what was going on & I had to watch this a second time just to make this review. The actors and actresses weren't bad, they all did such an amazing job; the story is just terrible. The concept they went for is good, it's just that the execution wasn't. I'm really hoping for the best for Eien K especially since it's the last Myu of the First Stage.
.
.
FINALLY!! GOSH THIS TOOK A WHILE. I actually watched this Myu with @missemperor back in May and we DID NOT enjoy it. I had to watch it again because the story never stuck to me and I forgot what everyone did in the Myu. To be honest, there were moments that are likable but the problem really is just the story. I’m really crossing my fingers for Eien K!! How about you? Did you like ’97 Eien? Did we agree on things? Feel free to leave your thoughts!!
Listen, the Starlights’ names/titles don’t make any sense outside of maybe Star Fighter, so I’d like to think they’re loose translations from a language from Kinmoku.
Star Fighter is probably pretty in the nose, and I’d like to think Star Maker is like, technically correct, but it specifically refers to the creation of poems/stories/songs (Taiki is essentially a bard you can’t change my mind).
Star Healer is where it gets weird, because their name is actually a word that means something like “purification by fire” (hence their strictly offense powers, and their Serious Laser), and since there’s no way to succinctly capture that, whatever translation magic is present went with an approximation that is understandable but also way off
          In both manga canon   ( ch.  51:  click  click  click  /  click  click )   and  anime   ( ep.  190:  click )   Seiya   ( Taiki and Yaten implied as well )   is shown to have the ability to project memories, thoughts, and feelings through song. It is also shown that, although she is aware of the ability and can control what she shows, she cannot be certain if the intended recipient actually gets the message she sends. Examples of this: after sharing her memories of Kinmoku’s destruction and Galaxia’s intentions for the rest of the galaxy with Usagi, she asks: ‘did you get it?’ as if she’s not sure. While this could be attributed to being uncertain about her own abilities because of a previously sustained injury, there are also numerous occasions when the Starlights each question whether or not their message for Kakyuu is being broadcasted and received as intended. Episode 185 in particular comes to mind.
          It can be a very dangerous ability to use as, when this ability is used, the Starlights exude a certain level of energy which can and, canonically, does expose them   ( ch. 51; Seiya sings for Usagi and Aluminum Seiren attacks ).   The level of power that they give off varies depending on what they’re trying to achieve and how far they’re trying to project. The message they send through the various media theytake part in as parto of their idol profession is very subtle and typically can only be picked up by those who are particularly sensitive to it   ( ie. children — Misa in Taiki’s case, and other Sailor Senshi ),   though they may not necessarily fully comprehend it. Since Kakyuu is the one the message is intended for, she would be able to pick up on it immediately and understand its meaning, especially with being so attuned to the Starlights in the first place.
          In order to get her message(s) across to Usagi in both the manga   ( ch. 51 )   and anime   ( ep. 190 ),   Seiya has to put more effort into projecting the message / memories so that Usagi can understand better / get a clearer image. In the manga, this results in Aluminum Seiren sensing the energy from it and attacking, resulting in the deaths of both Sailor Mercury and Sailor Jupiter. In the anime, Seiya overexerts herself in order to project her message / memory from a concert stage all the way to a Ferris wheel and have that particular message reach Usagi alone, rather than the entirety of the crowd the Three Lights were performing for at the time. Lead Crow likely would have noticed it, especially given that she was already at the concert hall, though there’s a chance she simply attributed the energy she felt to the target she was after   ( until the target’s star seed blackened and she fled and thus was completely absent ).
          The power level that she would emanate in order to project a memory to someone within a very close proximity would be relatively easy to control in theory, as it would be a very focused projection to someone nearby. Physical contact can make this even easier. Of course, Seiya singing for Usagi and revealing herself to Aluminum Seiren contradicts this, though it can easily be attributed to Seiya getting caught in the moment, as she has been known to do, and losing control.
          Seiya cannot control the projection ability nor the energy she gives off during its use at all when she sleeps. Normally this would be a non-issue, except in the case of the nights where she has night terrors and accidentally projects them, vividly, to the surrounding area, as well as gives off enormous waves of energy. If the dream itself does not wake her quickly, it’s up to Taiki or Yaten to do so as, if they don’t, their identities and location are at extreme risk of exposure.
So kind of a weird question but how do you come up with some of your crossover ships? Is it something you think up on purpose (like, 'I like this character so I wanna cross them over with a different one' and think on it til you find a good match) or does it just sort of hit you out of no where sometimes?
I wouldn’t call it wierd! I do admit a lot of my crossovers can be kind of out of left feild at times, so wanting to know the thought process makes sense.
It’s actually a pretty wierd/long answer so it’s under a cut.
TL;DR The Ships i particularly care about are always incidental to the crossover story i have in mind, and the stories themselves come out through strings between franchises on a worldbuilding level i either made myself because of some wierd psychological block i made as a child or simply considering how the world of one series would work in relation to one of arguably a different genre.
And also i’m super weak to Sci Fantasy as a genre and since no one writes those damn stories i have to crossover sci fis and fantasies to make it happen.
It’s pretty heavily rooted in how I used to view shows and engage with fandom. See back when the gender binary was getting me down when i was in my early teens, i felt really weird about liking things that were angled towards boys. And since i’d only just started existing in fandom spaces beyond favoriting every single art on deviantart and just started reading fic, it felt extra wierd. So something i would do when reading fic of, say, Transformers Animated, is that i would take the roles and personalities of the characters and translate them to Sailor Senshi in my mind so that i’d feel less embarrassed about reading fic.
Optimus Prime= Sailor MoonBumblebee= Sailor VenusUltra Magnus=Sailor Pluto (keep your eye on this one)Megatron= Galaxia
And so on and so fourth. So when the weird shame began to fade and the characters were allowed to be themselves in my mind, i had all of these affiliations i had no idea what to do with. So I made my first crossover fic. It was p. bad, I would rather not get into it, But as i’d been writing I’d considered if the Autobots were involved somehow in the Chaos War, or if the Great War was just Cybertron’s part in the entire Chaos War, according the allspark almanac Kinmoku is a recognized planet for them, so they’d at least be tangentially aware of princess Kakyuu and the Starlights.
So then i plotted out a fic that took place during the Silver Millenium that was essentially ‘to celebrate the newfound peice Queen Serenity invites Ultra Magnus and all the other war veterans we know of to a party on the Moon’
It featured one tiny scene where Pluto was allowed to join the party and she and Magnus forewent the dancing and simply talked to eachother all night, happy to have someone to simply share in conversation with. And that’s how Sailor Pluto/Ultra Magnus as a ship came to be. It wasn’t the first one I made, that was Raphael/Sailor Saturn, but that had been made more as a desire for more female characters in TMNT and it was made to better streamline imaginary games when my friends wanted to play ninja turtles and my buddy Alex had already claimed being April.
But the transformers one is the one that matters, because that worldbuilding, the way the worlds flow together inspired how i made crossovers entirely. The first step is always on a worldbuilding level. It’s never out of a desire for ships, but rather a desire to mess around with worldbuilding. The ships are always incidental to the crossover. I didn’t start crossing Magical Girl Series with BNHA just for ships, I wanted to see how Magical Girls could feasibly still exist in a world of quirks and pro heroes, then i wondered how they’d stay hidden so they wouldn’t be arrested for vigilantism, then i thought it would be hilarious if one of the most ‘sparkly power of love’ magical girls ever saved one of the UA kids from her respective Evil Magical enemies.
So from there ‘Bakugou Katsuki is saved by Wedding Peach’ Becomes an easy conclusion to draw. It was initially just supposed to be a oneshot where it happens, she erases his memory, and leaves. That was it. it wasn’t until i started wondering how he’d react to figuring out someone messed with his memories that the series began, as well as the ship. So birthed Flooding the Sky (and Blurring the Darkness)
All the Star crossover ships are much the same, i went in just wanting to see how Star would act if she was sent to THIS Earth instead of the Earth with Marco and Jackie and Echo Creek. Which through  the same type of shenanigans was how Stiro, Starhunk and ChloStar all began.
Though most of the bnha/Star Vs stuff was, for the most part, a little more for the Star Vs Metaverse than my actual crossover collection, the sheer volume of different timeline crossover ships was odd considering we made them FOR the crossover kids we wanted, which was odd since i’d only ever had one crossover child before this (Re:Pluto and Ultra Magnus) I made Dekustar to give Sandy a first mate on the SS crossover, Someone else Suggested Kouki so Hekugou was now in the same timeline, Someone else made Jackieroki for a third child to complete that timeline’s trio, I made Freya and subsequently Bakustar for a joke, Tsustar was made a thing simply as a need for Star to have at least one son in one timeline. And most recently @gererrin and I made a different branching path for Star/Todoroki (I mean RECENTLY like two nights ago i don’t even have a ship name for them yet)
But the timeline that I’ve actually found interesting beyond the child involved was in fact TenStar. And like the ships before it, it came from the story and my writer’s brain, not the creative demands of my artist brain. I considered what would happen when Star starts going through Mewberty at UA, since she couldn’t be let loose, was there a more peaceful way to ease someone through Mewberty? Who would volunteer to take her to the nurse’s? Momo because she’s staying with her before the dorms become a thing? or would Tenya, being Class Rep take it upon himself since there doesn’t seem to be a Nurse’s aid in their class?
then I wrote An Earthling’s Guide to Dealing with Mewberty and TenStar swallowed my soul in a way the others just weren’t quite able to. Because unlike the others, it was made as an extension to the story not with an end result in mind. While i did eventually make a next gen kid for them, what mattered more to me was the actual ship, so that seems to be my formula when creating crossover ships.
Wonder how two franchises could possibly be the same Earth
Worldbuild the hell out of it
plot out a simple yet economic story of how canon characters could/would interact
notice either the opportunity for a quality love story, or a particular amount of chemistry between characters
ship it
    How does one get over the sharp feeling of mistrust ? Despite all that had taken place, the soldier could not help the tension that took hold of her body when eyes rested on the raven-haired figure. Perhaps it was the memories invoked by the mere sight of the Kinmokian, the psychological associations of her and the turmoil that came with their first encounter. Indeed, the emotional spectrum that humanity possessed was a topic the lone guardian was still trying to understand.
  But here Setsuna found herself alone with the other, atop the observation deck of the observatory. It was just the two of them -- and the vast expanse of night sky, dusted with stars and faraway galaxies. There was an uncomfortable silence, one that felt too loud to Setsuna’s liking. She’s used to staring out at the cosmos (it’s all she’s done in this damned eternal life), but she certainly isn’t used to this kind of company. Seiya had said she was there simply for observatory visiting hours, but those hours had now passed, and she was still looking up to the night sky with a rather distant look in her eyes.
  Setsuna took a deep breath, softly exhaling, before approaching the fellow soldier. The astrophysicist could learn to lower her guard, couldn’t she ? She also knew what it was that Seiya was searching for in the darkness above. “You know, a lot of the stars we can see from here are actually already dead, their light having taken years to have reached here. Some find the thought morbid, but I like to think of it as a last hurrah, the last living remnant of something that is no longer here.”
  She motions to the large telescope nearby, beckoning the other to follow her. After a few adjustments, she steps aside to let Seiya take a look. The telescope is focused in Kinmoku’s direction, still distant but much closer through the power of the telescope. (Setsuna might have played with things a bit, for the humans shouldn’t be making too many discoveries just yet.)
    “But the night sky is not just a graveyard. There’s plenty of life out there, life that we’re all trying to protect . . . and have protected.”
