Tattoos in BLs

Dean [Until We Meet Again & Between Us] - I do not remember seeing this, but I have the picture, so it must've happened. It’s a compass on his hip because he was lost without Phram and always looking for direction.

Win [Until We Meet Again & Between Us] – We will hopefully find out something next month when the series begins, but even if we don’t, we can still appreciate that these are henna including those angel wings.

Jang JaeYoung [Semantic Error] - Does it have meaning? As he stated in the series, “Not really. I just liked it” but I'm seeing an eclipse thanks to Ayan's hoodie.

Chu SangWoo [Semantic Error] – Hand drawn by JaeYoung, and it is the first image JaeYoung ever drew for him when they first met in the episode one.  

Black/White [Not Me] – White had to get it because Black had it, and Black had it because..no idea, but it could symbolize death or strength.

Yok [Not Me] – Mandarin on the flank means mom, but the birds and the forearm one, no idea.

Tonhon [Tonhon Chonlatee] – “An anchor is what a navigator or sailor uses to hold his vessel to the ocean. Tonhon means a navigator. That’s why I had this anchor tattooed on my left chest to remind me that my heart will not drift away. It will be with the ocean and that is your name, Chonlatee, forever. Every time I look at it, it reminds me that I have you in my heart all the time.”

Kamol [Unforgotten Night] – I didn’t watch this, so I’m guessing that it was because he had pet tigers, and I'm fine believing that.

Mangkorn [Big Dragon] – Mangkorn means dragon, and he is the dragon (Yang) to Yai’s tiger (Yin).

Porsche [KinnPorsche] – A phoenix because that was his underground fighting alias, fire is his friend (he gets the fire started in the woods, he starts a fire in his first week on the job, he smokes), his mom used to tell him stories about the phoenix rising from the ashes, his color in the series is yellow, and he is the phoenix/fire (Yang) to Kinn’s tortoise/water personality (Yin - he's like his mom).

Pete [KinnPorsche] – “No legacy is so rich as honesty” is from Shakespeare’s comedy All’s Well That Ends Well, which is about a woman of lower rank trying to marry the man she loves who is of a higher rank. The quote shows not only to live an honest life (in a play full of dishonesty), but to be honest with oneself, something that Pete does in the end when…you know.

Ram [My Engineer] – Has a dream catcher on his neck to chase away bad dreams, a wolf on his arm, a tribal turtle on his shoulder, and a few others.

Forth [2 Moons 2] – Actor’s actual tattoo. Might be a Sak Yant tattoo for good fortune.

Sarawat [2gether] – Actor’s actual tattoo. I think it was something about remembering who you are.

another piece from Single Star Review fic! in this piece, baby university therapist has been sent away by the head university therapist.

“You can’t help me,” Khun insists. He doesn’t even know why he’s here with this fucking guy, this was a stupid idea, he knew this was a stupid idea, he should yell loud enough Arm can hear him from the reception and come rescue him. Or even just walk out that door. It’s not like Mr. Therapy could stop him, he holds his clipboard with arms like wet noodles and Khun bets he doesn’t even know how to run in his secondhand loafers.

“I know you can’t help me! I’m a special case, and we both know what that means.”

Khun doesn’t actually know what it means. He knows it generally—it means no help for him, because Papa searched for help after he first came home, but there wasn’t anyone to help Khun because he was a special case, but Papa never told him what exactly drove the therapists away. Maybe it was because Khun was too broken. It’d taken him years to even piece a shell together, after all.

The therapist hums, still infuriatingly calm. “There’s lots of reasons why a therapist might not work for you,” he says. “Therapy works differently for everyone. The first step is finding a therapist you’re comfortable with.” The man smiles gently, eyes kind. “It takes a lot of courage to open up to a stranger, you were very brave in coming here.”

“Pffbt!” Khun sputters, bristling like a cat. Courage is keeping his shit together to send out bomb cars to keep Kinn from dying. Telling someone about some kidnapping from fifteen years ago! As if!!

“I hope that we can build a rapport together over time,” the man says, blithely ignoring Khun’s glare. “But if we’re fundamentally incompatible, I will still do my best to find you someone you are comfortable talking to.”

“We’re fundamentally incompatible,” Khun says immediately, “No need for a rerun, we don’t match at all.”

The man sighs and nods. “Is it my love of sequins?”

…What?

The man nods morosely in the face of Khun’s baffled blinking. “I was worried we might not match when I first walked in. See, I much prefer sequins to feathers, myself.” He gestures at Khun’s feather boa, which has somehow come to be wrapped around his neck twice. “I know it’s quite the obstacle to overcome, but I’d like to try to work past it, if you’re up for it.”

He doesn’t… That’s not…

“I prefer fur actually,” Khun says, lost. He doesn’t know this script.

“I’ve never owned a piece of fur clothing in my life.”

“Gah!”

Very late 2022 ranking - and it's a little bit dumb

I fell into a bit of a swamp this year and that swamp is Thai BLs. So I made a little rating list of the shows I've seen in 2022 (completely) because I have an obsessive need to make Excel spreadsheets. This is all just a personal, not particularly thoughtful list, of course. I'm super curious what others' 2022 rankings would look like, though, so feel free to let me know!!

In case you were missing me these last two days: I made the fatal mistake and started reading Five-Star Southpaw.

And it consumed every single minute of my spare time. Because I literally couldn't stop.

And then I showed it to my sister in BL-purgatory @dreiviertelgut and dragged her down with me. And then I read it again. And then I commented on every single chapter. And now I'm posting about it (even though I'm sure all you guys already know about it).

I'm obsessed. I can't stop thinking about this fic.

tagged by the wonderful @khunvegas, which was apt timing because yesterday I watched SO MANY SERIES! (It was a glorious day) and now I can gush about them here (sorry not sorry this gets long).

currently watching (in order of enjoyment):

Kinnporsche: I mean, yeah, I LOVE THIS SHOW. I love that it's a little all over the place. It has good dramatic tension (for me), great relationship dynamics (they're all different and not necessarily healthy but they're trying and working for them), and is SO AESTHETICALLY PLEASING.

To My Star 2: What can I say that y'all don't already know as FACT? This show is incredible and soul-destroying and all the other superlative words...it's going to break us but hopefully save us in the end. Oh god, please let them be happy in the end.

Plus and Minus: I've said it before but I just love Taiwanese bl. It's soft and intense and like being enveloped in a warm hug. Even the angst is coated in icing. I don't necessarily like Fu Li Gong's reasoning for the break-up but nothing can be perfect.

Senpai, This Can't Be Love: Oh my god this is ADORABLE...Japan seems to be bringing it at the moment with this and OFC. If you've followed me for a while, you'll know I'm a sucker for any dance rep in a show and the 'dance' with the mouse and keyboard was so good. Loved the twist that Kaneda actually worships Yanase rather than being cold and shut off, and this will lend itself to some wonderful pining dynamics between the two.

My Secret Love: I started this because @khunvegas mentioned it in their post and gosh I actually love it more than I should. It definitely has a 2Moons2 feel with the each friend in the two friend-groups pairing up and I love that one is already an established couple (although not liking the jealousy storyline at the moment - just TALK TO HIM). Anyway, I love the next-door neighbours enemies-to-lovers/fake-dating-to-lovers trope and I'm getting a PatPran vibe with it but without the childhood rivalry. As @khunvegas said - it's good to see Earth being allowed to show his abilities and the two mains play off each other well. And I really like Bew, a newbie it seems, but very watchable. The university chancellor is very inappropriate though - getting two students to fake a relationship and then being the person releasing videos of them secretly and blackmailing them to comply. But I actually love it! Even though I shouldn't.

Old Fashion Cupcake: I love the office setting and the older characters...although I'm a bit irked that they're making 39/40 out to be SO OLD when it really really isn't. Don't let it fool you, folks, you don't need to be worrying about anti-aging and dementia at that age (lol smh). Anyway, I do love the emotional journey that Nozue is going through, the obvious joy that Togawa brings him, and the slow realisation Nozue will have about his own feelings for Togawa. A+

Love Mechanics: I'm not sure I'll be able continue this one since ep 2 is vip only at the moment but I'm holding out hope... I liked the original, shorter version - and Yin and War - and I'm looking forward to seeing how they expand it into this series. I also like that I know the heartache that's coming for both characters and I know they will do it well.

Sky In Your Heart: Oh god this is SO BAD but I'm ignoring all the cringey things because I do love Prince and the way he looks at Fah. And the scenery. And the continued used of the two dialects. But most of it is actually quite terrible. Sadly.

Mama Gogo: I tried this because it's directed by Jojo...but I'm not sure it's my thing and I may drop it. I'm really tired of bad female representation and women dragging other women down and it seems both are pretty much the show's backbone. It's partly why I got into bl - if there are hardly any women in a show then I won't see how they're portrayed so badly (god, terrible reasoning but whatever). I will watch the next few eps to see how it goes but...yeah, it's disappointing.

rewatching:

I don't have time for rewatching at the moment...but if I did I would want to watch Semantic Error again, maybe some of the movie versions of some of the Korean bls (now that I have a viki subscription), Kinnporsche...and Bad Buddy of course.

looking forward to:

Vice Versa. The Eclipse. Triage (when I can't find it not-grey). Check Out (it's not on my iqiyi...so maybe country-locked?). Between Us. Even Sun. Moonlight Chicken. Dirty Laundry. 10 Years Ticket.
