Resurrection AU: Void

In this AU, Void has been reincarnated as a little white puffball. He has no memory of his life before he was sealed away by the Heroes of Yore.

His main goal is to figure out who he actually was in his previous life. Aiding in this effort is Magolor, who's agreed to help in exchange for some assistance with his theme park work. He happens to be working on an ancient history-themed area, and could use a hand in the research process.

Personality-wise, Void is driven and has a no-nonsense attitude. He's not super thrilled about all this silly wizard theme park nonsense, but will do what it takes to get what he wants. He has a tendency to overwork himself. He doesn't seem to have retained any powers from his time as Void Termina.

One of the first sketch dumps I made after I got sucked into Kirby. You can see how rough I was with the first Kirbies in the upper left corner. This dates back to April of 2022.

The Dedede's was me experimenting with what kind of design I wanted to draw in for King Dedede. Since I was introduced to the series with KATFL I was used to club penguin Dedede so playing the older games surprised me a bit. Now I'm more used to the older design from Star Allies/Kirby Triple Deluxe. Although there is def some Smash Bros Dedede in there too. I just love the kimono some people draw Dedede in. It's rad.

The 'me, my husband and our 1561 kids' joke is from another artist here on tumblr that I got inspired by @miniiieevee. Or at least I think it was their comic. It was so long ago I don't remember. I will correct this if I'm wrong. (The blobs are waddle dees, I just got lazy with sketching)

And Kirfluff, I'm a sucker for those two. What more can I say? Still my Kirby OTP (although I feel like that's an incorrect statement because there are a lot of good Kirby ships that I love. I am a multishipper at heart. Kirfluff just inspires me more)

Dreaming (Or the lack thereof)

Okay. So.

We all know that Kirby's title is Kirby of the Stars. And that makes sense, we see stars everywhere with him! The Warp Star, the Star Rod, copy essences are star shaped, stars are like a shorthand to represent him. And in the tarot deck, The Star means hope. Kirby is, in a way, hope itself.

And the sky/celestial motifs aren't restricted to him. Meta Knight and King Dedede are literally called "Partners that shook the Heavens". And while this is getting into personal opinion, I think their contrasting personalities - Dedede is bombastic and outspoken and self-indulgent, whereas Meta Knight is more elegant and quiet and restrained - are like the sun and moon, and how they work in harmony and compliment each other.

So we have our star, and the our sun and moon, but what about Bandee? Can I fit him with an appropriately celestial motif as well? Lets think, what makes Bandee stand apart?

So, one of the most important things about Bandee is that he was once just another Dee. And he changed, and grew strong, and rose above who he was. He's resilient, and loyal, and constant. A symbol that anyone can change, can be brave. I think. I think what fits him most, his celestial motif, isn't an object but an event. The dawn, that always comes no matter how dark and bleak the night. Always returning, and yet a symbol of newness, of change. And like a star, it is hope.

Star and Sun and Moon and Dawn. They all have their place, all make vibrant the sky.

I used to be one of those guys when I first joined the Kirby fandom, but everytime I hear a discussion of the series writing that starts with "So the Lore is InSaNe-" and not like, "Kirby has a fun writing style that takes advantage of its cute exterior to tell cool stories that reward player's curiosity and leave lots of room for imagination-" I cringe so goddamn hard.

I kinda just hate that people approach things that encourage investment when they don't expect it as inherently absurd. Like it is fun to joke about how absurd Kirby lore can be, but it really often comes with an air of disrespect or exhaustion rather than like, appreciation that these games are made by people who want to tell interesting stories when they could easily make as much money just making polished enough fluffy kiddy platformers. And when it's not met with exhaustion, it's met with - like I said before - that tone that it's stupid for a series like this TO have devs who care about writing stuff for it. Which is a whole other thing about people not respecting things made to appeal to kiddie aesthetic or tone.

Maybe the state of low-stakes YouTube video essays just blows cause people play up ignorance and disbelief for engagement, but like I STG I hear people use this tone for like actual narrative based games sometimes. Some people don't like... appreciate when a game is made by people who care a shitton in ways that aren't direct gameplay feedback. And they especially don't appreciate it when it comes from something with any sense of tonal dissonance intentional or not.

Anyways, I love games made by insane people. I love games made by teams who feel like they wanna make something work or say something so bad. I love that energy, especially when invested into something that could easily rest on its laurels or which obviously won't be taken seriously. I love this in a lot of classic campy 2000s games, I love this in insanely niche yet passionate fanworks, and I love it in the Kirby series and its writing. Can we please stop talking about it like it's an annoyance or complete joke?

Astrial belongs to @crystalstars64 (I love her design and cute attitude, personally I would recommend you go into making her and origin story and flushing out her powers more. I can imagine her being a glass cannon, basically being very powerful but can be hurt very easily. Lots of potential, and you can only go up in improving her and making her really unique. Astrial will be apart of the parade unless you want me to remove her. You were a great opponent :D )
