Cutie Reviews: Tokyo Treat Jan 19
Tumblr media
“We said burr, it’s cold in here and there’s some delicious snacks in the atmosphere! We got our cheer set to celebrate the upcoming New Year and winter season. To help set the mood for the upcoming year, we decided to help spread some happiness with a fun Winter Wonderland themed snack box! Expect to find a lot of fun snacks that will keep a smile on your face as you enjoy the winter wonderland weather that is coming up. Our idea was to find snacks that will keep you feeling happy and warm on the inside no matter if you are cuddling up indoors or are out enjoying the brisk weather!“
Parade Milkshake & Nerunerune DIY
Tumblr media
As usual, I will be covering the DIY in a separate post; but for anyone unfamiliar, Nerunerune is one of the most popular and well-loved DIY candy kits one can find online or in Japan. It has come in many variations and has evolved over the years, and in this box we could get one of the most simpler kits they have released, featuring a fluffy whip-like candy fluff with candies.
Our main feature in this pic is the drink, the Parade Milkshake. This drink contains egg and milk, and is meant to emulate an actual milkshake, but with a thin milk consistency. Each can is only 47kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Because it’s been in the fridge, the can has been extremely cold- it’s perfect for summer! The flavor sort of makes me think of winter (and pudding, and McDonalds ice cream)... but at the same time, I think it would have been “too chilly“ to really enjoy during winter. Unless you enjoy being cold, which I do.
It tastes really good, I was kind of surprised because I wasn’t really sure what to expect. I’m pretty sure I mentioned this before, but lately I haven’t been into pudding due to an “incident“ where I got sick for a week, and I’m not into milk either; but I really liked this. It didn’t bother my “milk sensitivity“ either.
Cotton Candy
Tumblr media
This is probably the one item in the box that actually did give me “winter vibes“. You get that too right? But it also fits summer too since you see it a lot during summer at fairs and festivals.
Anyway, we have some kawaii cotton candy as our next item :3 Now, according to the package it did expire back in April, but it seemed fine. This bag of cotton candy is 46kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I LOVE cotton candy~ But I’m pretty partial, I prefer it have some flavor other than just sugar. That and it’s white color just made me feel bored. Another hindrance is that like any other cotton candy, once opened it begins to harden to the point of being inedible- so you need to keep it closed up tight.
Meanwhile, the package is absolutely adorable~
Custard Chocolate Bar & Balanced Nutrition Chocolate Brownie Bar
Tumblr media
Anyone whose been a reader of this blog will probably recognize both of these items/brands. But lets remain optimistic :P
Our first item is a Gudetama themed chocolate bar featuring a chocolate and custard flavoring. The bar consists of two tin wafers with layers of chocolate cream between them, a white layer on the top wafer, followed by the custard layer, giving the chocolate. Each bar is 115kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I’ve been pretty tired of these since they always seem to be the same to me, but I didn’t really mind this one very much. It was actually pretty good, but that might have just been because the regular chocolate flavor overwhelmed the entire thing.
Our next item is the Kinosei (health snack) of the month, a chocolate brownie bar from Glico. This nutritional bar is packed with various vitamins and minerals to keep one feeling energized throughout the day.
Each bar is 98kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥
It was okay, nothing too special to me. It did remind me a lot of a brownie, but had an off-putting after taste I wasn’t very fond of. I also can’t guarantee the whole “energizing“ thing works since I ate it in pieces and I finished it now, half-asleep.
Lucky Taiyaki Snack & Giant Chocolate Bar
Tumblr media
If you didn’t realize it yet, this box was filled with chocolate. Not necessarily a bad move or anything- but (as much as I dislike it) maybe they should have done white chocolate to fit the season more?
Our next item is a Taiyaki, which again you’ve probably seen on this blog numerous times. For anyone unfamiliar, taiyaki is a fish-shaped cookie or pancake-like dough snack filled with chocolate, fruit, cream, or red beans. These specific snack ones are filled with airy, bubbled chocolate to give it a very light and crispy texture that melts in your mouth.
The brand who made this one is Meito, and each fish is 88kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I love eating these, it’s a 10 out of 10 delicious would recommend snack. It has a light sweetness to it and the chocolate taste lingers in your mouth for a little while after eating.
Our next item is this very impressively size chocolate “puff bar“. It contains peanuts and is coated in both them and chocolate, so it’s not a snack for anyone with peanut allergies- I hate peanuts so I wasn’t too sure how I would feel about it personally.
The entire bar is 162kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥
It’s actually not terrible. I love the crispiness and the chocolate is there, but it has a strong bitterness that I suspect might be peanut, and I can’t say I like it too much- but it’s not bad? But eating a segment of it was enough for me, and I found myself giving it to someone else.
Strawberry Tiramisu Kit Kats & Crunchy Panda Cookies
Tumblr media
At this point we are now reaching the last of the chocolate products for this box. First up we have another party pack bag of Panda Cookies :3 I love these, they’re super-cute and they taste good. For anyone who may not recognize these, these are chocolate molded into various panda expressions (70 in total!), with a “panda-esque“ cookie behind the chocolate, giving it a crunchy and sweet taste.
These are by Kabaya and are pretty common to find online. They even have DIY kits (which I did try before, it was pretty fun). The party bag consists of 6 packs, each featured various designs, puzzles, or comics. They also support protecting panda bears from endangerment.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
I’d like to say I was biased because I love panda bears, but they do taste really good too. You get crunchiness from the cookie, and the chocolate tastes like both milk and white chocolate. Again I’d recommend these.
Our other item (also a party bag) is the special strawberry tiramisu kit kat. This flavor is special as the #1 voted Want To Try Flavor worldwide to celebrate kit kats 45th anniversary.
Each pack is 64kcal, and features the sweet and sour flavors of a strawberry with a light, smooth coffee mixed in.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
First of all I’d like to say that as “charming“ as its meant to be, I kinda find the art on this pack to be repulsive. I don’t know why, it just looks so weird and goofy to me. I wish they had gone for something more... food-ish, to bring out the appeal of the flavors.
It looks like a white chocolate, but it tastes strongly of strawberries, so I love the flavor. But you just barely get the “smooth coffee“ flavor it describes, so I wouldn’t call it 100% accurate.
Savory Wheat Crackers & Cheese Umaibo
Tumblr media
Now, onto the savories; there was surprisingly a handful of them. I say surprisingly because this is the second month in a row where the box had a balance of sweet and savory (not counting the drink or DIY), I really wish they kept this trend up.
Anyway, we have a pack of 2 wheat “crackers“, featuring salt and natural oils from Okinawa to give them a savory salt taste. The “Snack Menu” in the pamphlet says the bunny’s image plays a part in their “winter” theme. But to me the flowers automatically give me summer vibes. Again.
What makes this snack concerning is that for just 2 of these, it’s 405kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥
I’ve never been huge on wheat, but I grew up on it whenever I was at my grandmas so I got used to it. But these don’t even taste like wheat. They’re crunchy and salty, and kind of remind me a bit of a cone.
I like these, but the huge calorie count is a big turn-off. Only because I think for such a high count, you’re better off eating something filling; these aren’t enough to get someone through the day until their next meal, unless they eat really small portions normally.
The next item I won’t be reviewing because I’ve gotten it several times, and have reviewed it several times. I’ll make this short :P I’ve never been a big fan of the cheese umaibo, but I find the more I eat it the better it tastes oddly enough. It didn’t exactly taste like cheese to me when I tried it, but now I can say it actually does.
Salty Seaweed Puffs & Shrimp Sticks
Tumblr media
The coloring for these two items actually look very different in person. First will be the Seaweed Puffs, made from salt and rice with a sprinkling of seaweed flakes to blend the flavors together.
Rating: ♥ ♥
The flavor is pretty light, I can’t say the salt taste is stronger than that in the wheat crackers. I was kind of disappointed that the seaweed flavor was really light too. They’re not bad though, the texture is pretty nice, but they are already kind of stale and it makes their appeal even... lesser.
Our other item is the share pack Shrimp Sticks by Calbee. These we’ve gotten before so I don’t think I’ll be rating them again; but I will say that each bag is 31kcal, and because of their small size you get a decent amount of them per-serving. I actually like these because the fishy taste is light, and I enjoy the crispy texture.
Black Pepper Chips
Tumblr media
Our final item are these pepper-flavored chips by Koikeya, a popular chip brand known for coming up with some unique flavors. We’ve seen it a few times in Tokyo Treat, but this is a new flavor to grace our presence.
Each bag is 283kcal.
Rating: ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥
Seeing these, I was very excited to try them because when I was younger, I loved eating pepper chips (or salt and pepper chips, I don’t remember), and I really like pepper sauce, which the scent of these strongly reminded me of.
While they smell of pepper, they taste strongly of it too :D and instantly kick in the spice as you eat them. Strangely, I get a “jerky“ taste too from these, but I love jerky so I’m not complaining at all. The chips are crunchy and delicious~
♥ Cutie Ranking ♥
Content - 4.5 out of 5. There was only one item I wasn’t very fond of, but I didn’t find it unbearable and could tolerate eating it. The drink was good, I love the DIY kit we got and am excited to make it next. There was some repetition in this box though...
Theme - 2 out of 5. I’m probably giving it pity points honestly, I feel bad in saying this but I can barely see the theme they were going for. A lot of it oddly gave me summer vibes- but it’s entirely possible that I’m feeling it because it is summer now...
Total Rank: 7 out of 10. The items were tasty but there wasn’t too much special about the box because I was used to so much of it already, I also kind of wished they had toned down the chocolate or given us something fruity- besides the DIY. I also failed to see the theme, which I feel a bit disappointed about. I’m really hoping next months box isn’t too chocolate oriented (and again I am a chocolate addict, so that’s really saying something), but considering its the Valentines Day box...
♥ Cutie’s Scale of Yummy ♥
1. Pepper Chips - they smelled delicious and tasted even better! Extremely would recommend!
2. Strawberry Tiramisu kit kats - It might not contain both flavors described (at least to me) but I LOVE the strong, overwhelming strawberry taste~
3. Cheese Umaibo - Every time I eat this, I end up liking it more than last time. The first time I tried it I didn’t like it at all, and now I kind of enjoy it :P if you’re like me I’d suggest giving it a few tries and see if your opinion changes like mine did.
4. Panda Cookies - As much as I like these... a small part of me is kind of tired of them. Granted it has been some time since I last had them, but...
5. Taiyaki Snack - I love the crispy texture mixed with the melty chocolate~
6. Milkshake Drink - Going in, I wasn’t sure what to expect other than some kind of malty drink; but it wasn’t like that at all. It had a really strong vanilla-pudding-ice cream taste
7. Cotton Candy - I really like cotton candy but I’m not into the plain sugar variant. I prefer flavor.
8. Gudetama Bar - Oddly the flavor was pretty good this time, usually I’m not too crazy about these bars. Maybe it’s growing on me.
9. Wheat Crackers - I liked these more than I thought I would, but they were still kind of boring in comparison to everything else.
10. Shrimp Sticks - I’m not huge on seafood (unless it’s sushi) but these are pretty good. As much as I complain about light flavors, I think here it works for the snack.
11. Brownie Bar - It was okay, I didn’t really have too much of an opinion...
12. Seaweed Puffs -  I was really disappointed these didn’t have a stronger flavor.
13. Chocolate Puff Bar - It wasn’t bad, but as I said, I’m not big on peanuts and I really didn’t find myself wanting more after a few bites.

TokyoTreat Classic Review June 2018
TokyoTreat Classic Review June 2018
TokyoTreat actually arrived about ten days earlier than usual this month, which was a pleasant surprise.
This month’s box is all about carnival snacks or snacks that make you think of summertime. It’s definitely hot enough outside where I am to enjoy some summertime treats!
Before I start, I should tell you that I did continue my subscription, so I will be reviewing more boxes to come.
Ikinari Dango Kit Kat
I know, I know, chocolate in the summertime. Unfortunately, these did melt, as expected, so they don’t look very appealing. They were supposed to look more like a small Kit Kat bar.
That being said, these are flavored like mochi with red bean and sweet potato paste. The outer chocolate coating tastes more like sweeter white chocolate to me, which isn’t a complaint.
The filling really gives off of more of a sweet potato flavor than red bean, which is fine, but the sweet potato does tend to linger in the mouth a bit longer than I feel is necessary.
Still a nice treat!
Rating: 4/5
Takenoko No Sato – Cookies and Cream
The booklet says that you may receive a honey butter or a cookies and cream variety of these little bamboo shoot (takenoko) shaped cookies. I received the cookies and cream one.
The frosting tastes a lot like a Hershey’s cookies and cream candy bar, but nicer quality. The chocolate cookie underneath is a standard chocolate flavor, but somewhat softer than you might expect.
The picture isn’t really showing the cookies justice since they melted into each other.
These were very delicious!
Rating: 5/5
Yogurt Flavored Ginza Rusk
Rusk, as I’ve reviewed in the past, is a crunchy biscuity snack shaped like a cube. This variety is white chocolate yogurt, and they taste mainly of white chocolate and butter to me. This isn’t a problem, as they’re still very delicious.
The booklet says that the lactic acid in the yogurt is to help digestion, though these snacks probably don’t contain a ton of that.
I enjoyed these quite a bit.
Rating: 5/5
Umaibo Tonkatsu
I think I’ve said this in the past, but I’ve never had tonkatsu proper. I can’t judge if this umaibo is true to the flavor, but I can say that it’s very strong in taste. I found it pretty sour, honestly, and somewhat hard to finish.
That being said, if this is what tonkatsu tastes like, this umaibo is labeled correctly!
I didn’t think it was awful, just too strong for my tastes. Perhaps it would be different for others!
I will say that I liked how it wasn’t nearly as greasy as last month’s, though.
Rating: 3/5
Melon Cream Soda Chips
These are potato chips coated in a melon soda flavored powder.
Yes, you read that right.
They smell a lot like candy, and taste similar to what you’d expect them to taste like — a melon soda.
The combination of melon soda and potato isn’t nearly as odd as it sounds, and it works pretty well here. I think it helps that the chips are not salted.
I liked these, but I probably wouldn’t buy them on their own.
Rating: 4.5/5
Koikeya Scone Rich Corn Flavor
I assumed that by reading the name, these would be scones, or something close to them. However, they’re more like Cheetos in shape and texture, and they’re flavored like buttered corn.
Japan apparently loves buttered corn flavored snacks, because I have seen them a lot. I do too, though, so they’re always welcome in a subscription box. 🙂
These snacks are sweeter than some buttered corn snacks but they’re very pleasant and somewhat addicting.
Rating: 5/5
Salty Seaweed Stick Potato Snack
These look a lot like Potato Sticks, but they’re covered in a salty seaweed powder.
Honestly, they taste mainly like salted potato to me, but that’s just fine.
Eating one of the mini bags in one sitting is easier than it should be, since they’re very nice to snack on.
I liked these a lot even if the flavor of seaweed wasn’t really there.
Rating: 5/5
Cheesnack
The booklet called this snack Cheesnack, but the wrapper says Chee-ZACK. Is the cat named Zack? Is he Chester Cheetah’s cousin? Who knows.
I do know that this is a cheese cracker sandwich with a sweeter filling than most, and I did enjoy it, but I think I prefer salty cheese flavor over sweet at the end of the day.
The sandwich is also pretty crumbly and somewhat messy to eat.
Rating: 4/5
Popsicle DIY Kit
This is a cute little DIY kit where you put together a soft candy, powder, and syrupy liquid to make ‘popsicles’.
The picture of the finished product isn’t the prettiest since the candy did melt some, but it tastes nice! Blue is ramune flavor, and pink is strawberry.
I think the syrup is somewhat minty since the popsicle is kind of cooling to taste, which is neat.
The only complaint I have is how messy this can be if you aren’t careful. It’s a minor complaint though.
Rating: 4.5/5
VERDICT: This was a fun box with all around great snacks and treats, themed after summer snacks! The Cheeto-like Scone snack was my favorite, for sure.
Interested in trying TokyoTreat out for yourself? A classic box, like what I have reviewed here, is available for $25 on TokyoTreat’s page.  A premium option is also available for a little more.

TokyoTreat
$25 – $35 per month
Free worldwide shipping from Tokyo
TokyoTreat is a monthly Japanese snack subscription box shipped straight from Tokyo. They recently revamped their subscription service, and they now offer two sizes. There’s the Classic for $22.50-$25 and the Premium for $31.50-$35. (The cheaper prices are for prepaid plans.) TokyoTreat curates a box of fun, seasonal snacks with the aim to share their love of Japanese treats.
The Classic Box includes 12 full sized items: 4 popular Japanese snacks, 4 sharable packs, 2 dagashi, 1 DIY kit, and 1 kinosei (health-benefit) snack. The Premium box includes 17 full sized items: 5 popular snacks, 1 party pack, 4 sharable packs, 3 dagashi, 1 Anime snack, 1 DIY kit, 1 kinosei snack, and 1 Japanese drink. It’s rare to get seasonal Japanese drinks outside of Japan, so that’s always one of my favorite items.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
They include a paper booklet and there is also a digital zine on their website. The booklet includes all the information on the snacks and how to do the DIY kit. They also include fan photos, cultural info, contests, giveaways, and mini Japanese lessons. The theme for July 2018 is “Camping Getaway.” The booklet says they picked this theme because camping and hiking are popular summer activities here in Japan. I haven’t tried camping here yet, but I do enjoy a good hike!
They’ve also included that they have a new website, JapanHaul.com, where you can buy individual snacks.
I’m reviewing the Premium box, and items marked with an asterisk* are only in the Premium.

Uji Matcha Jelly*
This month’s drink is a jelly drink made with matcha from Uji prefecture. You shake the can a few times to break up the jelly, and there’s also a vanilla sauce that gets mixed in throughout. I haven’t tried this yet, but it’s a refreshing choice for the summer!
Cookie and Cream & Strawberry Cheesecake Kit Kats*
These Kit Kats come in two flavors, Cookie and Cream and Strawberry Cheesecake. The packaging recommends eating them chilled, so I popped these in the freezer. They’re both very sweet. The Strawberry Cheesecake has a little hint of the tangy cheesecake flavor, which balances the sweetness nicely.
Pineapple & Coconut Marshmallows*
These marshmallows come in two shapes. The fish are pineapple flavored while the starfish are coconut flavored. Sometimes these flavors can come off a little lotion-y, but I was pleasantly surprised with how subtle and real the flavors were!
Butter Toast & Sesame Biscuits Party Pack*
This month’s party pack contains two types of biscuits, butter toast and sesame. They’re both a little sweet, and almost remind me of rusks. I like how simple and clean the tastes are, and I think the sesame in particular would be good for s’mores.
Koikeya Tempura Matcha Salt Chips*
These potato chips combine two traditional Japanese flavors—matcha and tempura! This sounded so odd when I read the packaging, but the flavors are subtle. The hint of bitter matcha cuts through the richness of the fried potato. I’m not sure if I detect the tempura flavor, but then again I’m not sure exactly what tempura batter by itself tastes like.
Chocolate Mint Twigs
These little chocolates have a light mint flavor and a little bit of crunch. I put mine in the freezer to intensify the cool mint taste. I like a little more of a mint punch in my mint chocolate treats, but these are still very yummy.
Okara Cheesecake Cookies
Cheesecake cookies are this month’s kinosei (health benefit) snack. They’re made with fiber, vitamins, calcium, iron, and okara. I think they’re referring to the okara that comes from making tofu? I haven’t tried this yet, but I love cheesecake, so I’m excited they included it.
Rich BBQ Potato Sticks
I often am disappointed by Japanese BBQ flavoring, but this snack was amazing! Japanese BBQ flavored chips are often on the sweeter side, which is fine, but I love the tangy American BBQ flavor. These potato sticks remind me a lot of American BBQ chips, with a strong smoky, tangy flavor.
Poteko Potato Rings Share Pack
The share pack for July contains four mini-packs of little salted potato rings. The flavor is similar to plain Pringles, but with a bit more salt. The unique shape is fun, and I know I always reach for salty snacks when it’s warm out.
Pretty Cure Chocolate Wafer
The anime snack is a chocolate wafer that comes with little nail stickers. I haven’t heard of Pretty Cure, and I don’t really do my nails, but the packaging is cute! The wafer itself is pretty standard—not bad, not great.
Cheese Umaibo
It’s not a Japanese snack box without an Umaibo, right? This ever-popular puffed corn snack is cheese flavored. The strong cheese taste pairs well with the airiness of the puffed corn.
Grape Soda Gummy
One of the dagashi, this is a little grape soda gummy. It has a firm texture with a strong grape taste, and a little bit of soda fizz.
Konpeito Candy
A traditional candy, konpeito is made from sugar and often dyed in bright colors. There are five possible color schemes, all inspired by flowers. I got pinks and oranges inspired by cosmos flowers. It’s a very sweet, simple, and crunchy snack! It’s reminiscent of the rock candy I had as a kid.
This slideshow requires JavaScript.
Water Candy DIY
The last item is a DIY. This DIY has been in a lot of Japanese snack boxes, and it’s not my favorite. You mix lemon, strawberry, and soda gels together to make a mystery flavor.  If you like liquid candies, then this is for you.
My favorites from this month were the Butter Toast & Sesame Biscuits Party Pack, Koikeya Tempura Matcha Salt Chips, Chocolate Mint Twigs, and Rich BQQ Potato Sticks. They included a good mix of sweet and savory, and I really appreciate how many limited edition items there are every month. Japanese snack companies are always turning out new or seasonal flavors, which is one of my favorite things about Japanese treats!
Make sure to check out their social media for contests, coupons, and sneak peaks of upcoming boxes.
If you want to get your own Classic or Premium box, you can do so here. Prices range from $25 – $35 per month and boxes are shipped from Tokyo through Japan Post. Shipping is free worldwide!

12/30/17 Day Three
Breakfast - I got up late this morning, but I managed to eat breakfast. I had a bowl of coco puffs with two percent milk, a bottle of yakult and a cup of passion iced tea. For the coco puffs I had a little more than a serving. One serving of cereal is three fourths a cup and I measured a whole dry cup for my serving. I’ve been drinking yakult for a while now. It really helps my stomach. I used to have stomach problems in the mornings sometimes, but the yakult has really helped with my digestive issues. It makes me feel a lot better.
Tumblr media
In total I had 198 calories from breakfast. I did take a pain pill after breakfast because my leg was hurting. The funny thing is that after breakfast and after writing the above paragraph about my stomach hurting after breakfast sometimes, my stomach hurt. I’ve been writing in my notes after each meal for my food log blog. The pain pill did help a little bit with that too. My stomach pain used to be worse, where it would last all morning and I’d have to throw up all the contents in my stomach in order for the pain to go away. Now a days I just have to burp it out and with ten to twenty minutes time it goes away. Before my heart transplant I had protein losing enteropathy. Basically because of my congenital heart defect my circulation and oxygen levels weren’t that great, especially for my gut. So it wouldn’t function properly and it was difficult for me to absorb protein. I would have to consume more protein in order for my body to absorb it. I was on a very strict Paleo diet for a while. Once a month I’d need an albumin infusion just to help my protein levels. Now with my new transplanted heart I don’t have those issues as much, but they do happen every once in a while. Like I don’t really need infusions anymore, but I do get stomach pain maybe once every couple months. I think also my gut isn’t used to me eating breakfast. I guess it doesn’t like to work in the morning, but it’s going to have to. Hopefully tomorrow’s breakfast doesn’t end in stomach pain like today’s. Lunch - I picked up lunch at Da Luau, which is a Hawaiian place. I’ve been craving spam musubi lately and they have the best that I know of. I got two spam musubi and Kailua pork with white rice and potato macaroni salad. It was ready fairly quickly. I drove home and ate lunch. I ate a little more than half the rice, half of the potato macaroni salad, three fourths of a spam musubi and one third of the Kailua pork. I gave the other one fourth of spam to my Mom. She also had some Kailua pork and potato macaroni salad. I think I could of eaten more for lunch, but my stomach was still hurting on and off.

In total I had 823 calories for lunch. Snack - For my birthday my friends got me a Tokyo Treat box filled with snacks and candy from Japan. I just got it today. There’s a ton of great stuff in there from rice crackers to memory enhancing gum. I had a whole bag of koikeya original potato chips with a couple of tablespoons of ketchup. It needed that touch of sweetness from the ketchup. I have to say Japan makes a great bag of potato chips. It’s rare for me to finish a whole bag like that. I also had a piece of that memory enhancing gum, just for fun. I’m sure you’re supposed to chew it while studying or reading something. It was super minty in the beginning. So much so that it almost hurt. After a while the strong minty flavor subsided and it actually tasted really good. I’m not sure about the whole memory enhancement though. Closer to dinner time I had a couple of other little snack from my box. The first one was a kawaii, little, star shaped, strawberry crisps. They were yummy. I wish there were more. I also had some Pokemon gummies which came with a Pokémon card. That was cool. In total I had 506 calories in snacks.

Dinner - Mom made dinner. She made baked salmon, white rice and broccolini. I also had some ginger ale to drink. Very healthy and delicious dinner.
Tumblr media
Total calories for dinner was 656 calories. Dessert - I just had a drumstick for dessert. I am super full right now, you don’t even know. Today I’ve met my goal. Overall I ate 2,183 calories. Not bad.

Welcome, yet again, to another Jolly Monday!  Hope you all had a lovely Easter spent with family, friends, or cute baby owls.  Now this Monday is kind of special.  First, and from my perspective as a CPA this is important, it is the day before your taxes are due.  So if, like so many, you have procrastinated and are now in a fizz to get them done by midnight tomorrow, let me just say this:  DO NOT CALL ME. I am done for this year.  The ‘gone fishing’ sign is on the door.
But in addition, today has the distinction of being:
National Bat Appreciation Day (I wonder if they mean cute furry critters or the kind you can knock someone over the head with???)
National Cheeseball Day
National Haiku Poetry Day
National Poem in your Pocket Day
I appreciate bats – both kinds, and I make a superb cheeseball.  But the last two … poetry, unless quite simple, is far beyond my ability to comprehend, let alone write.  And what the heck is a ‘poem in your pocket’???  Anyway … go appreciate something today, even if it isn’t on the ‘official’ list!  Meanwhile, let us start this day off with some fun, shall we?
The Avondale Police Department in Arizona swore in a new member last week.  Not a big deal, you say?  Well, this new member has a beard.  So what, you ask?  The big deal is that this new member is a drug-sniffing bearded dragon!!!  Yes, you heard right …
“Research has shown that reptiles possess a strong sense of smell making their ability to detect certain illicit drugs possibly more accurate than K9s. Our pilot program drug sniffing bearded dragon will be assisting Officers in the City. Please help us welcome Iroh!”
Iroh has been working with the department for about a year as part of a pilot program, but proved his worth and has now been promoted, and even given a badge, though not a uniform on which to pin it.
“Iroh has turned out to be a valuable member of the Avondale Police family. His skill set is so extensive that we have cross trained him in many areas.”  He has been trained in dispatch, running radar, and even spent some time on paperwork with Assistant Chief Lynn Parkin. “Iroh has a keen eye for typos.”
The unthinkable has happened in Japan.  It is a disaster and is likely to have a severe effect on the Japanese people for years to come.  The country is currently facing shortages of … wait for it … potato chips!  You laugh?  Think if you went to your local grocery store the day before a big football game on television, only to find this …
One of Japan’s largest snack-makers, Calbee, announced this week it is temporarily halting production of 15 of its most popular brands.  People panicked and ran out to buy as many potato chips as they could, and now the shelves are bare.
What happened is that that last August, four separate typhoons hit Hokkaido, the nation’s largest potato-producing region, ruining this year’s crop. Calbee has imported some potatoes from the U.S., but Japanese law strictly limits the amount that can be imported.  Another company, Koikeya, does not import potatoes and has also announced a temporary suspension of their operations.
Some people have resorted to buying their chips from online auction sites where they pay 1,250 yen ($12 USD) per bag.  One newspaper, Nikkei, is referring to the shortage as the “potato crisis”.  Among the flavours that are currently unavailable are:  French Salad Dressing chips, Rich Consomme, and Plum chips. Okay, well … ’nuff said.
I don’t chop wood these days, as we have only a gas furnace for heat.  But back in the day … we used a wood-burning stove for heat for at least a decade, back in the 1970s – 1980s, and while we bought most of our wood already cut, I did my fair share of splitting wood for kindling, and stacking wood into some semblance of order once it was delivered.  It wasn’t a bad chore, except on those rare occasions that a rodent who had been snoozing on a log startled awake and scurried up my arm!  But my stacks of wood were noticeably boring compared to some.  Take a look at the creative ways some of these people found to make their woodpiles more intriguing.

Beware of changing your last name, ladies!  In St. Petersburg, Russia, a woman who works at a supermarket changed her last name to that of the store, Veniy, because the store was offering nearly $1,200 to anyone who would do so.  Heck, I would change my last name for $1,200!  Well, this woman’s husband didn’t like it too much … men are funny creatures sometimes … and he took revenge.
He had a cement-mixer truck (I don’t know how he convinced the driver of the truck to do this) back up to his wife’s car, and placed the chute into one of the open windows, filling the car with cement!  Somebody captured the moment on video and you can see it here.
No word on the wife’s reaction, whether charges were filed, or whether the man remains alive!
Two men and a woman robbed the Chick-fil-A in Folsom, California last week, but they did not get any cash.  However, Matt Crane, owner of the franchise restaurant, says they got something of even greater value … cow costumes!  “I just want my cows back,” Crane said. “No plans to press charges, so if they show back up, we would just be incredibly grateful.”
Okay friends, that’s a wrap for this Monday morning.  I hope something brought a bit of light into your spirit, a smile to your face, and most of all I hope you have a wonderful week! Share that smile with someone today … make someone’s day just a little brighter.
Eenie, Meenie, Minie, MONDAY! Welcome, yet again, to another Jolly Monday!  Hope you all had a lovely Easter spent with family, friends, or cute baby owls.
