a/n: i really grew to love kokichi recently and he somehow sneaked his way up into my fav danganronpa characters <3

kokichi has never been in a relationship until he started dating you, yet he lies about it and pretends like he has been with countless people before you

though just based on how clumsy he is when it comes to being intimate and how quickly he gets flustered, you can guess that he was just lying about that

kokichi tries not to lie to you too much once you two start dating, since he believes you deserve honesty in a relationship, yet sometimes he falls back into his old habits

he especially starts to pick up bad habits again when he's jealous! 

he gets jealous very easily, yet always lies and pretends like he isn't upset about seeing you talk to another guy

however, those guys he claims not to be jealous about end up getting teased and pranked by kokichi quite a lot for "no particular reason"

kokichi is just really protective of you, but since he can't physically do something against people he doesn't like, he has to result to using his wits and pranks to get rid of them

he can even be downright possessive! he was hesitant to fall in love but once he started dating you, he became scared of losing you again, leading to his clingy and possessive behavior

speaking of clingy, kokichi loves to cuddle with you, even if he always plays it off as a joke

out of all the ways to show affection, cuddling is his favorite one

there's nothing more intimate to him than laying on the couch with you, arms wrapped around each other and feeling so safe and comfortable that you two just end up falling asleep…

I feel like... KOKICHI would be so confused if you initiated physical contact with him. (that wasn't violent by any means and held no malicious intent)

Like, he dances over peoples boundaries all the time and violates their personal space for shits and giggles, but when you don't seem to mind and actually engaged in it, he's genuinely concerned. Not because you're reciprocating, but because it's him, the least likeable person in the building.

FOR SURE the delusional type of yandere.

He’s delusional in his daily life at times, so when he’s fallen in love, such an intense emotion corrupts him further.

He would delude himself so far as to believe that his luck cycle couldn’t affect or touch his darling, the ultimate hope in his eyes.

He knows that the people around him often get hurt because of his luck cycle, but when it comes to his darling, he has fully deluded himself into thinking that he can protect them, that his love for them is so strong that he knows what’s best for them.

He would hoard them to himself, always making excuses and distractions to steal more of their time and attention.

He knows he doesn’t deserve them or their time and energy, but he’s highly intelligent and thinks of roundabout ways to keep them around him at all times.

He always seems to be where they are.

If they need a favor done, or a question answered, he’s there.

When it comes to romance, as I said, he’s a worshipper, obsessive.

Kokichi would be another yandere who thinks he always knows what’s best for his darling.

Unlike Nagito, who would kill his darling to retain their purity, Kokichi would do anything, including killing himself or others, to keep his darling alive.

In their own way, maybe both feel like they are doing their darlings a kindness with their methods.

Kokichi is not a nice, caring, subservient type of yandere. Some yanderes obsessively live to serve their darling and worship them. Kokichi is so scared of losing his darling that he is restrictive, possessive, sometimes extremely cruel to them.

He expects them to do what he says, when he says, because it’s all for their own good, for their protection.

He does not like when others interact with them.

He sees pretty much all other interactions with others as cheating/flirtation in his own deluded mind.

When someone especially charismatic like Kaito talks to his darling, he feels himself fuming, and drags them away with a rough grip on their arm, or publicly embarrasses them so badly that they don’t want to continue the interaction.

maybe he's waiting for you to finish it to tell you it's made of bugs or something.

but no, it tastes good, and by the time you both finish the bar, it's like he forgot all about it... what is his plan?

kokichi takes care of the dishes while you settle down in bed to watch tv before going to sleep. it's not exactly close to the time you normally go to sleep, but it's dark and you don't have anything else to do for the day.

after ten minutes watching a silly show, your boyfriend pops into the room. he closes the bedroom door behind him, and approaches the bed. with no warning, he runs and jumps on top of you, knocking the air out of your lungs.

"ah! kokichi, why-" you scream, startled by his sudden movement. the little shit lays on top of you, wrapping his arms around your torso.

"watcha watchin'?" he smiles, pressing a kiss to your cheek. you reach around to tangle your fingers in his hair, scratching his head.

"just some sitcom that was on," you shrug. kokichi turns his attention to the tv, and to your dismay, rolls over onto the mattress. he sits up for a second to take off his shirt and pants, leaving him in just his boxers.

now, you've seen your boyfriend naked a thousand times. you've seen him in just his underwear a thousand more. it wasn't new. but for some reason, right now, you can feel yourself heating up. a familiar fluttery sensation twists your stomach, and your heart skips a beat. what the fuck? why are you getting so hot and bothered over something kokichi does every night? he always sleeps in his boxers.

whatever, you think to yourself, and shift your attention back to the sitcom.

kokichi reaches up and leans against the wall with his hand. "hot for you," he winks, sending a shiver down your spine.

you got the idea from kokichi. turns out being around him had a few perks after all

he had confided in you, about his plan to reveal the mastermind and end the killing game. how he wanted to create a case where the mastermind would make a mistake and break their own rules

he wanted to be the one playing the bait, but things don't always go as planned. and when monokuma tried to frame you for this case, you played along

you gave kokichi a warm smile, before you put on your act. and kokichi stayed quiet, since he didn't want to ruin your plan. his plan

but he quickly ended up regretting it

he was sure monokuma would slip up

even as everyone voted for you as the blackened - including him - he thought monokuma wouldn't possibly go through with your execution

just seconds before he did execute you, it finally dawned on him. monokuma would go through with it!

kokichi desperately cries out your name, trying to jump in and save you. he's sobbing as he tries to get to you

but he's too late

and again, you just smile at him. as if you were trying to tell him that everything will be alright. that your death wouldn't be in vain

everyone thinks this is just another one of kokichi's acts, as he tries to explain the situation to the others. that you were framed for the murder. that you couldn't hurt a fly, let alone another person!

but nobody believes a word he is saying

why should they? even he voted for you as the blackened! 

if he knew you were innocent, why would he do that? he was just trying to mess with their heads!

the truth was only revealed after kokichi had passed away as well. when kaito explained kokichi's plan to the others, they slowly start to realize that the two of you had really been trying to help them

but you would never know that they found out or that your plan ended up succeeding. you were both dead by that point and had died believing your attempts were in vain...

If I may ask, how do you think Kokichi acts around Maki after the game? Because I always imagined that what with the whole 'shooting him in the spine with a poisoned arrow' probably left him a little scared of her. I mean, if you consider that Strike-9 is likely named after strychnine, if the symptoms are similar, then that poison probably wrecked his body pretty good while him and Kaito were setting up his murder, he'd have been in considerable pain right up until the press came down. I can't imagine that Maki isn't a regular part of his nightmares.

Sorry it took a bit to answer. This is a lovely ask with much to think about, but your first question there really grabbed me and I immediately wrote a three-pager about it.

I think that after the game, Maki is actively trying to distance herself from her V3 persona. She's stated she doesn't like fighting in the first place in TDP, so in this universe I think she'd in the process of legitimately trying to change her title to SHSL Child Caregiver. It's kind of a probationary limbo in admin, proving she has the requisite skills to outright change tracks since IIRC there's not much if any precedent for it, but Maki works hard and has found herself opening up a bit more in the wake of surviving the simulation. She cut her hair to further put the past behind her (though she's not sure she quite likes it yet, it's a work-in-progress) and is, in part, trying to reclaim pieces of the childhood she functionally now never had. Kaede has taken her to I-Can't-Believe-It's-Not-Claire's at least once.

Now, Kokichi on the other hand.

He tries to avoid her like the plague, as he is (justifiably) terrified of her. They haven't spoken since the end of the game, but it isn't lost on Maki that Kokichi is the only person she's actually tried to assassinate (and, depending on who you ask, she succeeded. She, Kaito, and Kokichi each ultimately blame themselves for the press, even if Kokichi outwardly blames Maki for all of it and not just the torture) and it's just a bit difficult for her to stay angry. Especially when her one and only mark backs up against the wall and covers his upper right arm subconsciously so she cant shoot him there again when they pass each other in the hall.

Putting a nightmare sequence on the to-draw list, but Kichi has... thoughts, about potential poisoning he does as much as he can to suppress (only packaged food, even if that's not how he was poisoned before, because 'they'll have to get more creative now that it's not a game'; never leave your drink unattended anywhere, at all, even your own room; he started doing his own laundry again instead of asking Kirumi like the rest of Class 79, considering she defaulted to doing it to keep her hands busy and nobody else has really stopped her...) Little things.

Little things Kaito notices, now that he knows (now that he cares) to look. He thinks that they'll be friends, someday (but it'll be pretty far out, if it ever happens.) Mutual tolerance is a bit more viable.
