Lake Orta Piedmont Italy – Lake Orta, with its 13.4 km long and 2.5 wide is an authentic gem set between the green of the Alps and Piedmontese woods, the small peaceful cousin of the majestic Lake Maggiore .

which city would you recommend visiting in northern italy in january? (there’s nothing i don’t like, besides skiing)
You can visit basically anywhere. Every city, even the smallest one, has something cool to see, something historic. Gonna mention a few I know better. but ofc it's more about what do you like and what you want to experience (the moment you know that I can be more accurate with my suggestion).
You can visit Turin, even more if you're insterested in something "esoteric" (there's the dark side of that city -with all the monuments and stuff- which is interesting, either if you believe or not in those things), not to mention it's close to the Alps if you want to take a trip there to just see the landscape or visit some castles.
In fact, if you go to Aosta and the Aosta Valley, you'll have loads. You don't have to ski at all, you can enjoy the villages, the castles, the history of the city -Aosta- (at the end of january 29th-31st there's also a very famous street market in which you can buy wood stuff and typical food and much more), maybe visit some vineyard or cheese/ham producers (many offer guided visits+free tasting), or just go up on the mountains and walk on the snow to a close cabin to enjoy the view and some warm chocolate...
In Piedmont there are also the Langhe, which are hills basically but there are even more vineyards and things to eat (the food tourism there is really strong + there are nice villages and castles as well)
Another city is Novara: it's between Turin and Milan (by train is like 1 hour from Turin and 40 mins from Milan). It's surrounded by rice fields (many typical foods are made with it), it's close to the mountains (same thing I mentioned), it's close to hills (same as Langhe), it's close to the 7 lakes (between Piedmont and Lombardy) and a couple of them are pretty famous: Lago Maggiore (the biggest, so many interesting things to see like the San Carlo Borromeo statue -copied by the Liberty statue of NY-, the Castlli di Cannero -close to Switzwerland too- which are ruins in the middle of the lake but once were the customs, but there are also 3 famous Isole Borromee too which are so beautiful and the Isola Bella for example has a beautiful park+villa) and the little Lago d'Orta with the even more little precious Isola di San Giulio and the monastery (but also an amazing history). I love the vibe there. But back to Novara, it has lot of history too, and a very interesting Cupola di San Gaudenzio which used to be the tallest brick Cupola buildt on a church (it doesn't touch the ground) of the whole Europe (made by Alessandro Antonelli: there's a special tour about him to see all his amazing works) and ofc you can go up on the Cupola too and see the landscape and Milan from there (if the weather allows ofc... fog is there very often). Oh, the patron Saint is celebrated with street markets on january 22nd (cool enough, Aosta is a couple of hours away, js). lol im not selling away this town i swear...or maybe i am but ik it well<3
And yes, Milan but... do I have to talk about Milan? The Duomo, the Castello Sforzesco, La Scala and so much more. Sondrio, which is up near the mountains but it's a cool city too. Bergamo, divided into uptown and downtown (meaning the first is up on the "hill"). Mantova with all the museums to visit like Palazzo Te. Padova, again with the University history and the Cappella degli Scrovegni (Giotto's job). Venezia, and I think I don't have to add anything, lol But also Genova and the Cinque Terre (we're in Liguria: you're near the sea too), and Emilia Romagna with cities like Bologna, Modena, Riccione (which probably is more alive in summer?Idk): history, food, landscape (from the mountains to the sea)... Trento is a cool city too, and despite it being in Trentino, you can visit the city and the area around, and enjoy the landscape without having to go skiing
The Northern area as a lot to offer, it only depends on what you want to do (visit cities and their history, stay more in nature -and which kind-, do both, just eating and relaxing in a spa...) :) so if you want to drop another ask with a request, I'll gladly suggest something more in tune with you!

Una giornata da favola per tutta la famiglia, con falconeria, musica degli alberi, Mago Merlino e Fata dell'Acqua Avete mai sentito la musica di un albero? Sabato 30 luglio al Lusentino speciali sensori trasformeranno gli impulsi elettrici degli alberi in note musicali.Gli alberi sono infatti esseri viventi che interagiscono con l'ambiente circostante, in almeno 15 modi diversi, molto più dei 5 sensi dell'uomo. Questa è solo una delle esperienze per tutti, adulti e bambini,  in programma sabato 30 luglio all'Alpe Lusentino di Domodossola per la Festa d'estate organizzata  dallo staff di Grotta di Babbo Natale, in collaborazione con Domobianca 365.

The Heirloom (a Tintin Fanfiction)
Chapter XII - Friends that Live in Memory
Tintin, Rosalia, Haddock and Fabrizio are on their way to Lago d'Orta. This is where my cruelty against my characters begins and I'm not going to hold back.
I'm going to write the translation of Italian sentences in-between ( and ), since there are going to be lots of Italian dialogs.
Part one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten, eleven.
Trains in Italy were ten times warmer than trains in Belgium, so warm that Tintin could barely keep his jumper on without sweating.
They were halfway to Orta, just chilling on the train during that rainy afternoon. They had alerted Dupond and Dupont right before leaving, in order to tell them that all of them were okay and they were finally following a trace that would have led them to their goal. They had left with the first train they had been able to find, planning to stay away only a few days.
Rosalia had been quiet for the entire day and was now looking outside of the window with Snowy sitting on her lap, contently wiggling his tail. Fabrizio, sitting next to her, was talking to Tintin and Haddock, who were sitting in front of him.
-Oh you're going to love this place - Fabrizio told them.
-We'll see once we're there - Haddock replied, while Rosalia reached for her notebook in order to write something.
Fabrizio quickly read the words once she handed him back the notebook.
-She's suggesting a trip on a boat once we're there -
Tintin nodded in response, tensing suddenly as he looked at the way Fabrizio read what Rosalia wrote, noticing only in that moment that something about it was wrong.
-You're too learned to be a miller - the ginger noticed, leaving Fabrizio surprised by the statement.
Seeing the way Tintin attempted to reach for the gun in his coat, Haddock moved to take his hand and rest it on his lap instead, not loosening the grip even as the ginger tried to escape it.
Fabrizio looked at them and then sighed, resting his elbows on the table.
-That's because I'm the son of a doctor - he explained and both the captain and Tintin looked surprised.
-Disowned? - the reporter asked, to which Fabrizio chuckled bitterly.
-That came later -
Humming again, Tintin held Haddock's hand in his, playing with his fingers.
-You must have done something horrible - the reporter guessed.
-I actually just left the life that they had decided for me in order to retire in the fields and become a miller -
-Why on Earth would you do that? - Haddock snapped.
-Well, because the life I was designed to was too complicated. The miller is something pretty simple -
Tintin nodded at that explanation and Haddock couldn't help but notice the sadness in his eyes.
-You were disowned, right? - Fabrizio asked Tintin.
-Is it that evident? - the reporter asked with a soft smile.
-It was your first guess... -
Haddock smiled sadly at the ginger, which Tintin didn't notice.
-They literally threw me out of the house for reasons you all know - the reporter explained.
-I'm really sorry, Tintin - Haddock muttered and the ginger smiled at him.
-It's not like I was a child, I was...around twenty three. I already had a job -
-But it's still something hurtful - Haddock replied.
-He's right: just because they didn't leave you in worse conditions it doesn't mean it shouldn't hurt - Fabrizio agreed and Tintin looked down as he felt his eyes burning with tears.
He took a deep breath in order to not burst out crying on the train, leaning thankfully against Haddock's chest as the seaman wrapped an arm around him. It had been over five years from that event and still the memory of it could send Tintin at his lowest, something that he had always hated; he had done everything to stay away from that thought but, no matter what, it always came back to him.
It had been haunting his soul and body for years.
-Are you telling me we could have been rich and you gave up all of that to grind the wheat?! - Rosalia suddenly snapped as she got her voice back.
Haddock laughed and Tintin gave a watery chuckle, while Fabrizio smiled in exasperation.
-Welcome back with us, Rosa -
-Now explain to me what the hell you were thinking - Rosalia continued, not even listening to him.
-First of all, there's no we because I didn't get your custody...-
-You would have had if you had kept the money -
-I can't just steal from my family and then run away -
-Oh, ma vaffanculo - Rosalia grumbled, crossing her arms to her chets as she turned to the window again.
Feeling the change of humour, Snowy jumped off of the girl's lap, climbing on Tintin's right after. The reporter welcomed his dog with a rub to his head, still leaning against the captain.
-Everything alright? - Haddock whispered to Tintin in English.
The reporter limited himself to give a groan in response, not sounding as convinced as he had planned to; in response to his unsure tone, Haddock started caressing his hip and the ginger smiled softly at that gesture, feeling like that memory didn't hurt as much now that it wasn't only his to deal with.
-
They arrived at Orta in the when the sky was already red due to the sun leaving room for the night. The train station was crowded and chaotic, but it still didn't prevent Tintin from noticing Dupond and Dupont among the rest of the crowd.
-How did you manage to get here before us? - the reporter asked them, shaking their hands as a greeting.
-We have our secrets, Tintin - Dupond replied.
For the first time ever, the two were able to perfectly melt among the folks, with their black suit and hats.
-Please, follow us - Dupont said, leading the four away from the station and through the old roads of the place.
Looking around in admiration, Tintin didn't notice the way the twins glared at Haddock after he placed a hand on the reporter's back, but the captain certainly did notice their look; it was the worst they had ever given him, almost causing Haddock to finch away and pull back, but instead he returned the glare and moved to take Tintin's hand, who immediately intertwined their fingers.
-We've done some researches regarding the man you're searching for - Dupond said.
-Oh, what did you find? - Tintin asked, while Haddock made a skeptical sound.
-He's a fisherman, everyone here knows him -
-He must be living on the shore, then - Fabrizio said.
As the man spoke, both Dupond and Dupont froze, looking at Fabrizio with confused eyes.
-Who the hell are you? - they asked and Fabrizio stepped back as the two approached him.
-He's my tutor - Rosalia answered, stepping in front of the Italian man.
-I thought...You can talk?! -
Tintin sighed and let Haddock's hand go in order to approach the scene that Dupond and Dupont had created.
-I can explain it all to you, but now let's go -
-
Dupond and Dupont had found them a place in the hotel that was closest to the lake. It was a little place, built to the side of a square in which towered a medieval building with red frescoes.
It was calm, literally on the shore of the lake, and from there Tintin could see San Giulio island. He had simply placed his luggage under the bed, hanged the coat in the wardrobe and then had placed himself to the open window to look at the island under the moonlight.
It wasn't as big as he had imagined (and probably should have expected such since it stood in the middle of a lake); from there it looked like a village with its own church, all hidden by huge trees.
-I honestly don't think that the watch is there -
Haddock, who had been sitting on the bed reading a book, put his glasses on the bedside table in order to get up and move to the window as well.
-Why do you think so? - he asked, wrapping his arms around the reporter's waist and rest his chin on his head.
-Because it would be too obvious. It looks like a novel - Tintin answered and Haddock laughed.
-We'll see what Elio says -
Tintin hummed in response and fell silent, resting against Haddock's chest.
-Why don't we buy a house and live here? - the reporter suggested with a playful smile.
-Because Italians are weird people - Haddock grumbled and chuckled as Tintin laughed.
-But the place is good -
-I must agree on that -
They fell silent again as they kept looking outside, hearing the muffled cheering of the people at the ground floor.
-Are you okay? - Haddock asked at some point.
-Of course I am -
-Lad, you need to stop pretending like you're fine -
With a sigh, Tintin turned around in the embrace in order to look at Haddock, feeling like he couldn't stand his gaze but still kept his eyes locked in the blue of the captain's eyes.
-Really, I'm always okay - Tintin tried, noticing how skeptical Haddock was.
-It's impossible. All the troubles you went through...do you really think I would let myself get fooled when you say that it didn't affect you at all? - the captain replied.
Tintin eventually stayed silent, knowing that he couldn't prove he was right because there was no way that could have convinced Haddock that he wasn't telling the truth; the seaman was, in fact, very much right, but it cost the reporter a very big effort to admit such.
-Right now I'm okay - Tintin answered, so that he wasn't lying but not even saying the truth.
Haddock looked at him skeptically for a moment more, before sighing in surrender and nodding.
-Okay, lad - he muttered.
At that response, Tintin leaned over in order to give Haddock a soft kiss, standing on his tiptoes.
-I'm sorry - he murmured.
-Don't apologise to me, apologise to yourself from keeping yourself to reach for help when you needed it - Haddock replied, drawing the reporter closer when he wrapped his arms around him in a protective gesture.
Tintin rested contently against him, shivering as the wind entered in the room through the window.
-You're warm - Tintin giggled.
-We should close the window if you're cold - Haddock suggested and grumbled as the ginger didn't let him move to reach for the window.
-I'm too comfortable - Tintin muttered and the seaman didn't move further, enjoying how at ease and relaxed the reporter looked.
-
As expected, they found Elio's house on the shore of the lake, in the middle of some trees that had grown next to the water. They arrived there on foot with no problem on the afternoon of the next day, and Rosalia went to knock on the ruined wooden door of that white and little house.
At first no one came to open, and then both Rosalia and Tintin looked through the windows, not seeing anything but shadows behind the embroidered curtains.
A short and large woman came to open the door, wearing a flowered, worn-out apron and wooden clogs.
She looked at the people in front of the door of her house with an annoyed (and fierce) expression, listening to what Rosalia told her. The woman nodded after the girl talked, turning towards the inside of the house while still keeping a strong hand to hold the door.
-Elio! - shouted and waited for an answer.
Rosalia moved closer to Fabrizio again as the woman still waited for any kind of response, all of them standing frozen in front of the door.
-ELIO! - the woman shouted again now raising her voice.
Tintin, who had been trying to warm up his now purple fingers since they had left the hotel, made a grimace at the powerful voice of the woman, trying to see if someone was in fact going to respond at her call.
-Please, don't tell me he's dead - Haddock muttered and the ginger had to cover his mouth with both hands to not laugh out loud.
After almost a minute, an old man (with skin that looked like it had been burned far too many times by the summer sun) arrived at the door, saying something to the woman (probably his wife), who responded by shouting at him. Elio looked exactly like he did in the picture, just older and with completely white hair.
The wife marched back into the house, still complaining about something that Haddock, Tintin and Dupond and Dupont couldn't understand.
-Piacere, sono la sorella di Valeriano Scardigli - (Pleased to meet you, I'm Valeriano Scardigli's sister) Rosalia said and Elio looked quite confused.
-Chi? - (Who?).
With a puff, Fabrizio pulled the picture out of a pocket, showing it to Elio, who immediately seemed to recognise Valeriano.
-Ah, Nostradamus! - he cheered and invited them in.
The passage of temperature from outside to the inside was so high that Tintin's hand and nose seemed to burn by the heat of the house.
While Fabrizio translated to them that Elio was inviting them to take a seat at the table, Tintin went to the stove next to the window in the hope of bringing some life back into his fingers.
Once they were all at the table (but Tintin and Snowy), Rosalia started talking to Elio, while Fabrizio translated for the ones who were unable to understand.
-Sì, mi ricordo dell'orologio - (Yes, I remember about the watch).
-E sai dov'è? - (Do you know where it is?) Rosalia asked.
Elio got up without saying a word, telling them to wait, before disappearing upstairs.
As the man walked away, Tintin came back from the stove and approached the table, Snowy right after him. He was still rubbing his hands to warm them up when he stopped next to Haddock.
-It can't be this easy - the reporter said.
-Why not? - Rosalia asked.
-It seems like Elio has got it here in the house. It's never this simple - Tintin answered.
-Maybe, for once, it will be easy, lad - Haddock said, but Tintin still looked skeptical.
The loud steps from the squeaky stairs announced the arriving of Elio, who walked back to them with a fob watch in his big hand. He rested it on the table, right in front of Rosalia.
The watch shone under the light that entered through the window, his golden reflex ending on the table; it had thin and black hands and a yellowish dial. Rosalia took the brass chain with fascinated eyes, a bright smile growing on her face.
The men around the table leaned over in curiosity to look as well, not believing that they had finally found it.
-Valerio me l'aveva dato dicendomi che tu saresti venuta a prenderlo - (Valerio gave it to me saying that you would have come to take it) Elio said, sitting back down at the table.
-So he knew he would have died - Tintin said and Fabrizio translated it for him.
Elio turned to look at the ginger as he nodded vigorously.
-Certo che lo sapeva, Arena non lo lasciava in pace - (Of course he knew, Arena didn't let him be).
-What happened between Arena and Valeriano? - Tintin asked, leaning over as he now was fully part of the conversation.
Again, Fabrizio translated the question for Elio, who waved at them to wait as he got up and headed upstairs again.
Once the man left, the rest of the people in the room looked at eachother with surprised and curious expressions, knowing that a big mystery was about to be revealed.
-I swear, I had no idea about it - Rosalia immediately said, raising her hands in front of herself.
-You couldn't have known - Fabrizio defended her.
-Don't tell me that now you were long friends - Haddock grumbled, moving his chair in order to leave some room for Tintin to shift closer to the table.
-Of course not! - Rosalia snapped.
-I think they're relatives - Dupond suggested, to which Dupont nodded in agreement and Rosalia glared at them.
-This is getting stranger and stranger - Tintin muttered.
-I agree with the lad - Haddock replied.
-You always agree with him - Rosalia grumbled.
-That's not the subject of the discussion - Fabrizio said.
-When he's wrong I clearly say it - Haddock protested.
The group fell in a surreal silence as soon as they heard the squeaking of the stairs again, their voices still echoing through the room.
-Io, Valeriano e Antonio eravamo grandi amici - (I, Valeriano and Antonio were great friends) Elio said, placing an album of pictures on the table.
The man opened the album and pointed at a picture taken in 1916. -But he refused - Tintin guessed.
-Diceva che tutti se ne sarebbero accorti. E io gli diedi ragione - (He said that everyone would have noticed. And I agreed with him).
Elio eventually closed the album, looking directly at Rosalia.
-Antonio gli ha sparato e ha provato a prendere l'orologio, ma io ero già andato con una nuova compagnia, e l'orologio con me - (Antonio shot at him and tried to take the watch, but I already was with another company, and the watch with me).
-And he wanted me because he thought I knew where the watch is. I mean, I thought so too - Rosalia said.
-Voleva l'orologio per distruggerlo - (He wanted the watch in order to destroy it).
-And what happens if he destroys it? - Tintin asked.
-Nothing. But it's mine and lots of of people could benefit from it - Rosalia answered, giving Haddock a quick glance.
The captain stiffed at the look she gave him, knowing that they would have needed the watch as well, sooner or later.
-We need to get him arrested or he won't stop - Haddock decided.
-Ha ucciso un uomo, questo basta - (He killed a man, that's enough).
Dupond and Dupont looked at eachother with a knowing look.
-Yes, we can do that. Or we can alert Italian police - they suggested, but Elio shook his head immediately.
-La polizia Italiana è nullafacente - (Italian police is a deadbeat).
-We'll arrest him, then -
-Grazie. Io posso testimoniare l'omicidio e fornire prove, ma voi dovete stare attenti: non avete idea di chi sia quell'uomo - (Thank you. I can testify and give proofs, but you need to be careful: you don't know who that man is).

I finished this and I don't even know which language I'm speaking anymore, I keep messing up the accents (all the accents I can perform).
From now on, this story is going to be cruel and full of angst. You need to be prepared.
