Been a while since I've fallen so quickly and so thoroughly into a hyperfixation, but Hazbin Hotel has me by the neck. Especially the pairing of Angel Dust and Husker.

My favorite parts of this to draw: Husk's murder face, Valentino's coughing and retching sound effects, and Angel draping himself over Husk at the end.

(The last panel came to me as an afterthought, hence why it's a separate image.)

There are really problematic simmers putting their child characters in tube tops and fishnets but clearly this isn't meant to point out any real community issues. They're just going after popular blogs for the attention.

Some random trivia: BloodClan uses hot tar to seal the talons onto their paws. Sunflower here is carrying an old rag soaked in vegetable oil, which breaks down the excess tar and keeps the medical damage to a minimum.

Man…I wish I could see what everyone else sees in the ending of ROTK/LOTR, but I just see it as immensely depressing and heartbreaking. Frodo has gone through so much pain and trauma that he can’t even enjoy the life he once had and needs to leave behind his best friends-his ride or die buddies, the people who’ve followed him and supported him from the very start-and that is the saddest f*cking thing, and I hate it. Because it didn’t have to be that way. It’s all Sauron and Gollum and Ilsildur and Bilbo’s fault. Why can’t Frodo just heal with the support of his friends? Find a therapist?? Why can’t they all come with him?? It just isn’t fair, and I hate it. Sorry if I sound small-minded but that’s what I believe.

I totally get what you mean. There’s a part of me that wishes Frodo stayed in the Shire as well; there’s a reason the Magnolia AU exists ;-P No matter how you look at it, it’s a bittersweet ending—which means it’s at least partially bitter by definition—and even those of us who love it will freely admit that it hurts to see him go. The only question is whether or not it’s a good hurt.

I think there’s multiple reasons why people might enjoy the ending the way it is. I think Christians see a poignant reflection of our longing for eternity. I think those of us who lost a loved one suddenly, and weren’t able to say goodbye, might take comfort in a story where the goodbyes are prolonged and rich and sincere. I think those of us who know something about the consuming grip of mental illness might find hope in a story where the character not only survives with his pain, but is promised complete healing from it.

In a less lofty sense, there are a lot of goodbyes in life. People move away; friends drift apart; siblings eventually grow up and leave the house to pursue their own lives. Frodo’s ending is sort of a distillation of the mingled pain and joy of all those bittersweet goodbyes; the ‘I’m so proud of you’s, the ‘I wish you the best’s, the ‘even if I’m not with you I will always, always love you’s.

A dear friend of mine might be moving to another country soon, and is considering joining the military sometime in the future. I will likely do neither of those things; I can’t, as you might say, follow. I, like Sam, am stuck in the Shire, living my quiet and humble life while someone I love is off on another adventure. That doesn’t mean I don’t love my friend anymore. That doesn’t mean our relationship is over. Love endures past goodbyes. Love endures distance and disparate paths in life. Love says, ‘I want the best for you, even if it’s far away from me.’ Love says, ‘live well; I can hardly wait to see you again.’ Love aches in separation but rejoices in reunion, and the goodbyes only make the hello agains all the sweeter.

To me, there’s a pain in Frodo’s departure, but there’s also joy; the joy of knowing he will be healed, he will find peace, and one day, Sam will follow him across the Sea (and sit by a wall in the light and laugh with him over a cup of tea). There’s sorrow, but there’s also joy. There’s pain, but there’s also hope. And in my experience, that rings true to what love is. Love hurts, but it hurts well.

So yeah, I love the end of LotR. It hurts so good. And if I’m NOT in the mood for bittersweet endings, there’s always fanfiction! 🤣🤣

So I got to go to an expo where Jorge Gutierrez was doing a panel for Maya and the Three with his co-character designer and writer (also fabulous people by the way but my stupid addled brain can’t remember their names right now). I’mma make a separate post about the advice he gave because honestly it was slammin’, but the funniest thing I wanted to post about was that I got to ask him a question (in fact I was the last person they allowed to ask!) and I asked him if they intended for swarms of fans to fall for Zatz, and I joked “He’s like the perfect edgy mid 2000’s Sasuke type character!” And Jorge leans into the mic and goes “FUCK YES”. The room was dying.
