Ruggie once came up with a plan to get infinite donuts via Trey.
He only knew three things:
- Trey is a great baker;
- He is always baking treats for Heartslabyul, ESPECIALLY Riddle;
- Riddle likes sweets.
So, the Hyena organized a joint study session between Savanaclaw and Heartslabyul, which is great already because they get Riddle's help (as well as unique magic to break up fights).
Also Leona's seasonal depression kicked in on top of his regular scheduled depression, so having the funny idiots of Heartslabyul and Ramshackle fooling around at least helps a bit. He is just watching the chaos unfold while helping with a few questions.
Back to Ruggie's plan, it's very simple! After studying, he uses Leona's credit card to order a ton of donuts. And everybody will like them because it's DONUTS, easy peasy, just wait for Trey to start baking due to popular demand.
It worked.
But now he and Savanaclaw are ready to kill for Riddle (he smiled, they didn't think he could even do that, also Ace was like "bet" and brought a few hedgehogs, which means only more happy Riddle, decorating the donuts to look like hedgehogs).
It was as if Kalim had temporarily possessed the housewarden. The rules of the Universe changed. It was Spectral Soiree all over again.

Bake Sale
Due to Girl Scout season, (and me buying boxes) I just got an idea, so here yall go! (03. 16. 2023)
'So... hot'
(Name) could only think about how HOT Ramshackle was right now. Thanks to that useless crow of a man, Ramshackle was the only dorm without an AC unit or any type of fan. It's the middle of summer vacation and there is no airflow through the dorm.
"(Name) pleassseee do something about this heat, I think Grim is about to die".
"Wow, I bet you regret skipping Crewl's classes now" chuckled Deuce.
"We are both in summer school, shut up Deuce".
All the mirrors going into the dorms were locked up tight for the summer, leaving all the students who needed to catch up stay in Ramshackle, which was not alot of students.
"Listen guys, if I had the money I would totally buy a unit but I have no money or a job right now".
"UGH" Ace yelled, "why can we just go to the beach or sneak into Savanaclaw's pool!". Ace marched towards the windows and began opening all the ones in the living room.
"Because what teacher will gives us a pass to go relax when you three are supposed to being doing your homework and classwork you missed!". (Name) was getting overwhelmed, they knew they should've taken Leona's or Malleus's offer on staying with either of them during summer break.
"(Nammmmmmeeeeee)" Grim cried, "please do something about this heat", Grim fell to the floor.
"Fine, let me figure something out".
"Yay!!" The three cried.
<>
(Name) walked out the campus kitchen, carrying two buckets of ice with them back to Ramshackle.
'Shit'
The ice was already melting.
'How the hell are we going to live in a magical world and not have any ice magic or spells?'.
As they made their way inside the Dorm they started opening windows, turning on the fans to on the highest settings, on cheap fan on its back with the bucket of ice holding its weight.
'Finally'. (Name) took in the cold breeze that filled the room. Grim came running down the hall putting his fatass in front of the semi broken fan. "Ahhhhhhh finally! Took you way to long henchman".
(Name) rolled their eyes, "Now that's done, I think I'm going to get a sweet treat." The word 'treat' summoned all three braincells.
"What are you gettin".
"Can I have soommme?".
"Can I help?".
'Jesus Christ' (Name) sighed, "I was feeling nostalgic and wanted to bake...."
Ace and Grimm groaned, throwing themselves back onto the "cold" ground.
Deuce looked confused, "I'm sorry perfect, why are you going to bake when it's-"
"Fucking thousands degrees out-" Ace interrupted.
Deuce glared.
"You guys don't have to help with anything, I was kinda of planning on doing this for myself...". (Name) walked away towards the kitchen.
"Nonono, I'll help you perfect!!" Deuce ran after (Name).
(Name) opened the cupboard, 'thin mints orrrrrrrrrr, hmm, wait samoas?'.
(Name) looked over at Deuce, "Deuce, one or two?".
"Um one?"
"Thin mints it is".
Aced let out a moan.
"Damn buddy that's like your 10th one...".
Ace had tears in his eyes,"it's.. so... good".
(Name) gave the three a look; hunched over the counter, all groaning in happiness.
"Are these from your world perfect?".
(Name) nodded, "Yeah, there's actually-".
"Don't care make more!".
"Hench man please!"
(Name) looked at Ace and Grimm in shocked, "you know a simple please would do... also Grimm can you even have chocolate?".
Ace rolled his eyes, "the little shit ate rocks for the past year-". His comment made Duece hit him on the back of the head.
"Anyways, Perfect, do you think we can take some to lunch tomorrow?".
"Sure, I'll probably be baking all tomorrow... nothing else to do".
"Oi oi crabby~ whatcha got there?".
Instinctively Ace put the brown lunch bag towards his chest, "none of your-"
"HEYYY!!". Grimm screeched
"Sh sh baby seal, let me just borrow your bag."
Grimm beated his paws on Floyd's stomach, "No! You can't have that! (Name) made those specially for me!!" He whined.
"Oh~ Shrimy made these?". Floyd popped a cookie in his mouth.
The world stopped for a minute, Floyd giving the three a lead stare. "Uh, you good bro?". Ace went to put his hand on Floyd's shoulder only to be bitten by said eel.
"FUCK HE BIT MY SHIT".
Floyd stole the bag of cookies and made a dash for the door.
"MY TREATS!!" Grimm wailed.
(Name) hummed as they baked their third round of cookies, the last batch being Samoas now they were working on peanut butter. 'I guess always baking with Trey was worth the lessons-'
Que their front door being broken in with two distressed students.
"PERFECT HELP I NEED STERILIZATION STAT-"
"HENCHMAN! I NEED NEW COOKIES! THAT DISGUSTING EEL STOLE MY COOKIES!".
'There goes my peaceful afternoon'.
(Name) grabbed the first aid kit to help Ace, letting the two whine and nag about their day.
Grim plopped himself on (Name)'s lap, "So.... can you give us more cookies?".
"Sure, just don't let anyone take them this time."
The next day at lunch was... eventful...
"ILL TAKE A BAG FOR $10!".
"NO! $50!".
"MAKE IT $90!".
It was like watching a pack of hyenas swarm a prey, three pairs of eyes watched from a distance.
"So... it's just cookies?". Azul observed the growing hysteria with a careful eye.
Jade snickered, "I think it's more than cookies sir~"
Azul grabbed a cookie from Floyd's bag, observing before taking a nibble.
Jade laughed, "so? What's the verdict-".
"Schedule a meeting with the perfect."
"FLOYD PUT ME DOWN!!". (Name) was hunched over Floyd's shoulder.
Azul took a deep breath, "Floyd put the perfect down-".
CRASH
Azul felt a migraine forming, rubbing his temples. "So... perfect". Azul forced a smile.
"I'm not making a dea-".
"Listen! What about a business partnership? With your cookies-".
"No."
"There will be money, 50/50".
"I already-"
"And! I'll ask threaten the headmaster to give your.... Ramshackle upgrades".
'It's so much hotter than the inside of Ramshackle'. (Name) was miserable, sitting at a stand in Port Town trying to sell cookies, THEIR cookies. Luckily, that ocean breeze was... somewhat frequent.
"Hggnnngg Henchman I'm bored.... let's dip".
(Name) rolled their eyes, "You got us into this mess...".
"Ha! How was I supposed to know Azul was also in summer school!". Grim threw himself under the table.
"How's business perfect?~".
"Shrimpy~!".
(Name) gave Jade a glare, "I'm miserable - it's too hot for this shit."
Floyd blew a raspberry, "Well! We have something to cheer you up-"
"A gun?"
Grim came up from the table, "AH! It's me!".
(Name) looked at the two confused, "a cardboard cut out of Grim?".
The cutout was... interesting, depicting Grim in a hat and... boots.
'Is there a puss and-'
Jade smiled softly, "Azul said it could help drive in business having a mascot~".
4/13/2024 I kinda gave up towards the end... this has been sitting in drafts for a year.... I cant figure out how to end this but Perfect gets a pool in Ramshackle in my head so :)

@adalavandula Angst is a writer's best friend, am I right?
This is written based off one of your latest asks.
Warning:Graphic stuff up ahead! Read at your own risk!
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~
Everyone watched in shock as Yuu was being engulfed by inky black tar.
"What the hell?! How are they overblotting?! They don't have magic!"
Ace exclaimed as another wave of energy knocked everyone off their feet. The inky black tar then sloughed off to reveal the greatest nightmare fuel picture of all.
It was Yuu. But an overblotted version
Empty soulless eyes with blood dripping from them stared at everyone and limbs were dislocated in the most uncomfortable ways ever. Their stomach was cut open and their intestines were hanging from it and trailed on the ground. A mix of ink and blood dripped from their mouth and cuts littered their legs and arms. The uniform they wore was all teared up into rags and they inched forward with a limp and a sway in their walk.
"Haha...a pitiful sight, am I right?"
Yuu was very distorted yet sadness and tiredness was evident in it.
"Child of man..."
Malleus trailed off with wide eyes as he watched Yuu slowly tilt their head to the side and a loud sickening crack was heard. Their head suddenly twisted in the most disturbing way ever with blood suddenly oozing out forming a choker-like circle around her neck. They caught wind of Riddle shakily raising his staff in their peripheral vision and slowly turned their head to him.
"What now Rosehearts? Gonna shank me with your rosebushes again? Might wanna add 'Off With Your Head' while your at it. Well I guess you don't have to with my current state right now."
Yuu chuckled as horror became evident on Riddle's face and his staff clattered on the ground, long forgotten in fear and shock. They then turned their heads to an unsuspecting hyena who suddenly froze in their spot as they limped towards him. Ruggie immediately raised his pen and made eye contact with Yuu's empty sockets which made his stomach drop with that mocking grin they gave him.
"Come on, Ruggie! Why don't you Laugh With Me?"
The hyena was shook to the core and suddenly started hearing his own heartbeat. Images of Yuu tripping down the stairs with blood pooling from their head suddenly flashed in his mind.
"Ne, koebi-chan. This isn't funny and cool at all you know."
Yuu sharply turned to Floyd who seemed unfazed by their movements with only a frown curved by his lips.
"You're one to talk, Floyd. Wanna squeeze my heart again and while using Bind the Heart?"
Floyd had never felt so confused in his life but Yuu's angry expression said it all. His eyes widened when pictures of Yuu bleeding from their chest that had a dent with glossed over eyes appeared. What's worse was that he was cradling them in his arms and he wore a shock and terrified expression.
"Oi herbivore! Snap out of it!"
Leona was not expecting Yuu to growl at him as fissures of sand floated from their ears.
"You.You were the worst one. Getting hit by King's Roar felt like shit."
Yuu spat and Leona reeled back in shock as they reached out to him with their hand fizzing into sand.
Silence filled the air until Yuu cranked her head at Malleus' direction and Lilia, Sebek and Silver immediately stood protectively in front of him.
"And you burned me Malleus. I was nothing but ash when you fucking overblotted."
"Impossible...I couldn't have done that, right"
Malleus muttered and Yuu cackled in response.
"Don't listen to them young master! They're fooling you with their words!"
Sebek boomed and Yuu immediately fell silent. The green haired fae gulped as he felt Yuu's burning glare directed at him.
"And you. You were one of the many people who killed me one too many times! Along with that bastard Ace!"
Yuu screamed and everyone felt silent once again as she cackled once more. Ace felt a pang in his chest as Yuu started floating of the ground. He didn't know how but he was the one of the causes of this. And he felt like shit for it.
"And that's why I'll make you all fight me! I'll make you all fight me till' the end of time until you die trying to save me! You crossed the line, now pay the consequence!"
Yuu bellowed as ink surrounded them again. But it disappated faster this time only to reveal Yuu wading in an ink filled crystal ball atop a huge mound of bodies that seemed to be clones Yuu. Everyone held the urge to gag at the sight and smell as more corpses materialized.
"We're fucked."
Ha ha not the best writing style but I tried. Thanks for reading!

Ollie walked around, finding everyone still among their groups. Riddle was silently grieving with Trey for their lost friend, both boys standing in a corner silently. "Now, since two students died, we have two new ones replacing them!"Monokuma chuckled. "Meet Aura, the Ultimate Sweetheart and Briar the Ultimate Magician!"Monokuma smiled. Everyone mumbled greetings, still stunned after what had happened to the two boys. "It's been a day, so you guys have until the end of tomorrow to kill someone!"Monokuma announces cheekily. He left, Ollie looking at Aura and Briar who seemed frightened. "Hi, I'm Ollie"Ollie greeted warmly. "Hello..."Briar greeted nervously. "Greetings"Aura smiled bowing her head. "What do we do now..."Briar asked looking around. "I have returned!"Monokuma announces.
Livia and Briar both screamed in alarm, Malleus hugging Livia tight, his arms shielding her from having to look at the stuffed beast. "I have something that'll help you guys along...A Motive"Monokuma grinned. "Motive?!"Ruggie says his ears flattened back. "Yes, The Motive...is that I will let the person of your choosing go if you kill some of your classmates here!"Monokuma grinned. "Person of our choosing..."Sheryn says stunned. "Yes, anybody, it can be from a different group, it doesn't matter!"Monokuma grinned. Golden stared in shock, Vil glancing at him hoping he wasn't thinking about it. The sound of chiming went off, everyone looking up. "Time for bed!"Monokuma laughed. "Silver, can I sleep in your room..."Livia asked. "Sure, come on"Silver nodded.
Ollie looked at everyone as they left, before walking to her room. She spotted Golden muttering to himself and walked over to him. "Hey Golden...why are you here?"Ollie asked. "I'm worried about my siblings..I hope they'll be okay tonight"Golden says fidgeting with the bracelet Livia had gifted him, his eyes staring worriedly down at it. He entered his room, shutting the door behind him. Ollie went to her room, shutting the door behind her and locking it. "Huh...oh Briar!"Ollie says. "Can I spend the night here with you...Aura is spending some time with the Malleus guy"Briar smiled. "Sure!"Ollie beamed. Both chatted away, smiling at one another, giggling happily. Briar fell asleep first, Ollie staring down at her. She raised her hands, reaching for Briars throat but stopped. She sighed and went to sleep, keeping her hair in its ponytail.
The next morning, everyone met in the gym for breakfast, Livia walking beside Silver, Ollie glancing curiously at her. "Hey...where's Vil and Golden?"Sean asked. "You don't think?"Amber muttered. Everyone split up to look for Golden and Vil, Ollie searching the north hallway. She found Golden and Vil together, asleep at a desk, Golden holding Vil's hand. "There they are!"Rook says relieved. Screaming echoed through the hallway, Ollie recognizing it as Sheryn and Aura's. She, Rook and Epel ran down the hallway, bursting into the swimming area. Ollie's eyes widened, staring at the pool in shock. Leona sat in a chair by the water, a look of pure fear on his face, his hands and legs tied to the chair, a bag of water on his head, tied to keep it closed with some kind of cord.
"Leona?!"Ruggie says shocked. A chiming sound rung, everyone looking upwards. "A body has been discovered!" Ollie stared at poor Leona in shock, covering her mouth. "Golden must've did this"Jack says. "What do you mean!"Ollie demanded. "He was up before all of us, now where is he!"Jack growled. "Don't go accusing someone before we even know the truth!"Epel yelled. "Must agree with Epel on this one, Roi Du Soldier wouldn't do this"Rook sighed. Monokuma appeared as the others arrived, Briar and Livia screaming in shock at the sight of Leona. "Guys...there's not just one body..."Silver informed. "WHAT?!"Monokuma gasped shocked. Silver led the others to the library, taking them to the back. Zaiyu hung dead, his ears ripped out of his head, a pole through his stomach his insides tangled around it.
"ZAIYU!"Sheryn screamed. Eddie grabbed Sheryn, dragging his crying sister out, ignoring her screams for him to let her go so she could get their brother off of the pole. "Zaiyu!"Sheryn sobbed Eddie comforting her the best he could. Malleus helped Jack get Zaiyu off the pole, gently setting the boy on the ground. "Poor Zaiyu..."Rook sighed. "What do we do now..."Livia asked. "You investigate, you all have fifteen minutes to investigate the crime scenes to figure out who killed, we'll have a trial, you all have to work together to find the Blackened, if you vote right the killer is executed and if you vote wrong...the Blackened graduates and you all get executed"Monokuma grinned. "WHAT?!"Sebek yelled. "Here, use this"Monokuma says handing Ollie a tablet.
"Oh...this is info..."Ollie says. She scrolled through it, and found the cause of deaths. Leona died from Drowning and Zaiyu died from Blood loss. "Hey, what's this?"Epel asked finding hair on the ground. "Blond hair, so it was Golden!"Jack growled. "Hold on...it could've been me too Jack, I also have blond hair..."Rook corrects frowning at him. "Me, Golden Vil, Eddie and Ruggie all have a kind of blond hair"Rook informs. "We need more evidence then this"Epel frowned. "Okay the boys who were on the right side of the gym is group A, they'll investigate Leona's crime scene, those on the left is group B, we'll see what we can find here!"Epel says taking over. "Right!"Jack nodded. Ollie checked around the poke, finding something unusual. "What's this..."Ollie asked. "Nail polish"Rook replied surprised.
"How do you know?"Ollie asked. "Look there, it's been smeared as if someone accidentally hit their nail on this"Rook  replied. Rooks eyes widened, walking away, finding purple fabric on the ground. "This also has nail polish on it..."Rook says pointing to the smear on the cloth. "It seems like most of the evidence is pointing to him..."Ollie frowned. "This is purple nail polish, Golden wears orange or yellow.."Rook corrected. Ollie tapped her chin, Epel looking around. "Hey guys, Lilia found something!"Epel called. Sebek hurried over with Silver, finding Lilia pulling some kind of case from behind the bookshelves. "There's blood on it..."Lilia says. He opened the case, and looked away immediately. Zaiyus ears were inside, along with bloodied scissors, more nail polish was smeared on Zaiyus left ear. "I hope it's not who I think it is..."Lillie says glancing away at Livia who was searching the other bookshelves.

title: think about it tomorrow
word count: 2629
summary: Even after that difficult day of work, Ruggie had one more task he needed to complete, one that he didn’t expect would end with him just coming home.
this fic post is a lil different from my usual ones but! i did a trade with @nicoliharu !! and heres my part of it uvu
Savanaclaw’s lounge has an eerie glow at night, blue irradiating from the pool in the center that people say looked uncanny when it was empty, like now. That, or visitors would find it pretty.
Ruggie himself didn’t care much. Usually, when he had work at the Lounge, he’d come back to that, and it was more familiar than anything. Without the other students around, it was more like the only thing welcoming him back “home”, so there’s a vague comfort there. He always gives it a bit of a stare before walking to his room.
Sometimes he sits there and thinks over the silence. Makes calculations in his mind about how much money he was sending back home, how much he needed for himself. Thinks about exam dates and those extravagant events Azul made him and the other employees suffer through. Leona’s errands, Crowley’s tasks, windows to be cleaned, letters to answer.
He doesn’t have time for that tonight. Ruggie’s heading straight back to his room, Agatha should be coming over soon, after all, he promised he’d help her out with Animal Languages.
Yeah, it seems sort of insane to accept requests like these when he was having such a busy week, he knows. It’s not like he doesn’t have the spine to decline them, or something, just… well. Agatha is Agatha. She’s not like anyone else in that school.
Agatha was the only girl, for one, and also, one of Ruggie’s close friends. A couple sparks had been rushing between them lately, which made him so much more excited than he should be, but he was grateful for the friendship itself. In his two years of being a NRC student, he never really found someone who had a presence that… healing. Agatha was understanding and kind, the sort of person that compels you to wind down just by being there.
(Really, how rare was someone like that in Night Raven College?)
So he had a crush he was comfortable with. Nothing wrong with that, right? And nothing wrong with wanting to see her after waiting all these damn tables either.
He opens the door to his room and wobbles inside with a sigh. But, man, he was exhausted. He hoped it wouldn’t show through too much when she got there. It wasn’t necessarily that late, just… he hadn’t caught a damn break today. He wonders if there’s time to rest his eyes for a bit before she gets there—
“Ruggie?” He perks up at the voice he hears outside. “Are you in there?”
And there she is! He feels inclined to smile. One very much needed spark of energy runs through him.
“Yeah, yeah, just a second!” He responds, first moving to turn on the lights, which he hadn’t done yet, then to open the door. Agatha greets him with one of her usual smiles. “You ready to work?”
“Ah, well.” She laughs, a bit awkwardly. “I’ll be doing my best. I hope it’s not too much of a bother or anything!”
Really, how could she ever be?
“Nah, not at all.” He says, allowing her inside before the door is closed. It makes a bit of a heavy noise when he shuts it. “If it’s Animal Languages, then I’m your guy! And, I always have time for you, shishishi.”
Agatha gives him a small chuckle. “You’re too good to me.”
“It’s just what you deserve, y’know!”
She sits on his bed while he’s picking up the papers he’d put together earlier on his desk. Drowsiness creeps in, but he knows how to push that aside well enough. He needed to do his best now. Just not let all that exhaustion show through so he could lend Agatha a hand! Then, then he could sleep…
Sleep sounds nice, doesn’t it? His brain tempts him, but he blinks multiple times, and hopes that good enough to stave off the feeling.
“So, what part did you have trouble with?” He asks, sitting next to Agatha, opening the textbook over his lap. The logical part of his brain wishes he had more than one chair in his room, so they could sit by the desk. The less logical part is just happy to be here.
“Mmh, it was with these...sentences Mr. Trein asked us to translate, I think? I couldn’t really get the difference between these two noises… I think it’s in chapter 7, hold on.”
She gets the book from Ruggie’s lap, bringing it closer to herself. He lets his eyes linger on her a little while she’s flipping through pages, shiny amber eyes narrowed at the words.
A silly smile appears on his face. Ruggie feels like a lucky guy, which he guesses it’s sort of odd, they’re not even dating or anything like that. And this was supposed to be him doing her a favor. Technically, he doesn’t gain anything from this, and yet…
Agatha’s hair is this nice red-like color that stands out while it flows over her shoulder. Ruggie doesn’t know the exact word for the color, maybe it was burgundy? Garnet? That doesn’t matter. The point is she’s just… beautiful. Eye-catching besides that pleasant aura that melted all his worries away. She’s there, so it’s like everything will be okay. Ruggie lets out a small laugh, in a way, this looks just like a dream—
“Ruggie.” Her voice calls for him, firmer than its usual airy tone. He blinks, a stronger haze settling over his mind. So he dozed off. Huh. “...are you okay? I think you just fell asleep for a bit.”
“I’m good!” Ruggie chirps almost immediately. Her brows furrow in worry. “Just dozed off for a bit. Uh.” He laughs awkwardly. “What were you trying to show me?”
Agatha stares intently, concerned expression intensifying on her face.
“Ruggie…” She begins again, head tilting a bit towards him. “I don’t think you should be studying right now. You should’ve told me you were tired.”
“Hey, I’m good, though!” He argues, but there’s no bite to it, really, he couldn’t add that in even if he tried. Agatha sighs, shaking her head. “We can keep going.”
“I’m not letting you study like this. Come on, you should get some rest.” She moves to close the textbook, but he grabs at it first, reflexes slowed down or not. “Ruggie.” She says, in a gently scolding tone.
“It’s fine, I told you.” He tries to argue again. It looks like she wouldn’t buy that at all, and, well… “Didn’t you need help? It won’t even take too long, I can just…”
“No. That’s final.” Agatha states, cheeks puffing slightly. “You’re so stubborn. Just rest a little, okay? We can study tomorrow.” She huffs, hand placed on the top of his head in a pat — That turns into something like light petting that sends a weird, fuzzy feeling across Ruggie. “Come on. You can lean on me if you wanna.”
Ruggie crosses his arms, but she looks at him all invitingly, with that warm expression on her face. And his resolve dwindles…
Ah. Ruggie isn’t really a strong man when it comes to things like that, is he?
“...what kinda leaning are we talking about?” He asks, a bit of a smile on his face. Well, maybe this wasn’t bad either.
Agatha chuckles. “You can lay on my lap or on my shoulder, what you’d like. As long as you take a little break, you stubborn hyena.”
Yeah, it’s not bad at all.
“Then I’m on it, shishi.” He can’t help but grin a little. “You said I could do it, so.”
He pushes the book off Agatha’s lap — Hey, it’s an opportunity, he’s not just gonna miss that — and moves to lean his head on her thighs, sighing when they touch. Agatha does a bit of a small, barely noticeable jump like she wasn’t expecting him to take that offer, but in just a second, her smile widens, still soft and warm. Ruggie smiles back at her.
“That’s the only way I can get you to rest, huh?” Agatha sighs, leaning back for a bit. “You’re such a workaholic.”
Ruggie doesn’t say much of anything. He begins to feel drowsy already, but… really, when he’s like this, how could he really sleep? He can feel his heartbeat quicken, the room filled with a silence that’s both comfortable and comforting.
Agatha’s hand makes its way into the mess that was his hair, Ruggie feels himself perk up — and then immediately begin to relax, feeling how the tips of her fingers begin to run along it, untangling knots and gently scratching against his scalp, then the back of his ears—
Ah. The tension in his body starts melting away, pressing his face against Agatha’s thigh some more. Damn it, that felt nice. If he had to die like that, he really doesn’t mind. He feels all fuzzy inside, the humming that begins to leave Agatha sounds faraway, even.
He sighs.
His thoughts get muddled… was he that much of a workaholic, he begins to wonder. It felt so natural to just fill every second of his day with those part-time jobs. He didn’t hate it at all, he’d come to every location with a smile, ready to tackle the day, but maybe he pushed himself a little too hard sometimes.
It’d be nice if he could come back to something like this everyday. Ruggie found his dorm room decently homey, but… with Agatha there, it’s a whole different story. Maybe she’s just spoiling him like this — He leans against her hand as she scratches the back of his ears once more, knowing they’ve gotten a bit twitchy — but whether he’d admit that out loud one day or not, he just really likes it. He feels floaty, fuzzy…
“Hey.” He half opens his eyes, Agatha’s gentle smile is the first thing he sees, warming his heart. Something straight out of a dream. “Y’know what, I really like you.”
Her posture straightens in shock.
“Eh?” She blinks, and only now, Ruggie notices what came out of his mouth.
“Uh. I mean.” Oh. Oops, he giggles awkwardly. That hadn’t been how he thought he’d tell her about it, but… gotta make the best out of what you have, huh? Whether that went well or not… “Is that weird? If you don’t feel the same we can just drop it. But I’m telling you the truth. You’re just… special. I feel really comfortable with you, and all.”
He feels his face warm up, and he’s still laying there — These are kind of embarrassing things to say, aren’t they? But it’s her, and it’s true — Agatha is undeniably flustered, maybe they shared the slight red tint to their faces now. Ah, it’s weird. He feels anxiety threaten to pull him under for the first time in a while—
“I… I do too. A lot. M-Maybe too much.” And she stutters, tucking a lock of hair behind her ear as she looks away in this rare sort of shyness. “S-So, it’s not weird at all!”
Ruggie’s heart skips a beat.
“Cool. Okay.” The words processing in his mind, repeating over and over like they hadn’t registered yet, echoing. His face felt impossibly hot, his self control running low. “...can I kiss you?”
Agatha blinks, still wide eyed, and a smile appears on her lips, she fiddles with her hair again, brushing it off her shoulder. “I… yeah.”
All of this, it’s so… Ruggie has a tough time wrapping his head around it all, but he’s not going to argue a reality like this at all. Sparkling with excitement, he gets up, sitting next to Agatha again, and they exchange a look for a moment as he smiles, foreheads touching.
Ruggie feels like he doesn’t even know how to begin, like she’s his very first kiss. Tentative hands cup Agatha’s cheeks, and in the peak of his enthusiasm, they just go for it, so close to being at the same time — And their lips meet.
He feels euphoric, almost every bit of exhaustion forgotten when he feels Agatha’s smile against his, small breathy laughs bubbling up and leaving them before the kiss deepens and Agatha pushes back against him too.
They’re not really thinking about it at all, and maybe that’s how Ruggie prefers it. Agatha is warm when she presses closer to him, her arms wrapping around him, and he continues to hold her face in his hands even as they pull away to breathe for a moment, seeing her smile.
“You’re so cute.” She says in between slightly harsher breaths. “Ruggie…”
And he thinks of the time he’s thought about something like this happening, none of his fantasies ever really went like this — There was always some sort of struggle, a larger pause after he tells Agatha about his feelings even when he thought of victorious scenarios. Even when he had her with him in the end.
He wonders when they kiss again, should anything have the right to feel so easy?
She tastes vaguely like lipstick, something cherry-like and similar to what he’d associate to the color of her hair, with a hint of sweetness. Her arms around him pull him closer with surprising strength, he feels her heartbeat on his when their chests touch.
And Ruggie’s not good at keeping his hands to himself— He notices he’d been hungry, wanting something like this for too long, and even though the world feels too dreamlike, blurry from exhaustion and still a bit of denial, he lets his hands wander. He touches her arm first, but it doesn’t linger there, going down her sides and ending up on her hips, wondering if he could let them wander further, maybe over her thighs—
“Ahaha, s-sorry, I’m just really happy.” They pull away, breathing heavily, and Agatha is giggling, her smile turning the dim room into the sun itself. Ruggie can’t help but share the expression. “I never thought… this really feels like a dream.”
“Yeah.” Ruggie agrees. “What do we… are we doing anything else, or?”
His face feels hotter upon saying the words. He sounds lame, but—
“I don’t know.” She says with a sigh, but it’s content. Their foreheads touch, bodies still too close to each other, and too happy to be where they are. “I’m just happy we’re here.”
“Mm, me too.”
There’s one more kiss, although a brief one. Agatha’s hand is on his hair, idly running fingers through strands, even after they part again.
“You still look so tired.” She points out, voice gentle. “Don’t you wanna call it a day?”
Ruggie has to sigh. Well…
“Maybe.” He admits, finally, even though he doesn’t want to be away from her at all now. “But I’m gonna miss you if you leave.” It’s a playful complaint, even though he means it. Agatha chuckles a bit.
“I can stay with you, then.” She says with a rare sort of decisiveness. “Someone’s gotta take care of you if you’re not gonna do it yourself.” She pouts, pulling him a bit closer.
His eyes threaten to flutter shut like this.
“If it’s you, then.” He murmurs, laughing quietly. “Guess it’s alright.”
Agatha gives him one more kiss, a small affectionate peck on his lips.
“Good. Let’s think about everything else tomorrow, okay?”
Then it goes by easily. He sighs, releasing tension with his exhale, and Agatha holds out her arms for him with an inviting smile.
They lay down, not really bothering to turn off the lights just yet. Ruggie makes himself at home there, back of his head on her chest, an arm pulling him closer while she continues to pet him, warm and dreamlike.
And they think about it tomorrow.

💝My Obsession // Yandere! Leona Kingscholar x Reader// 💝
Tumblr media
Someone, please explain to me how all my Leona fics end up being 2,500+ words?? Also props to whoever figures out which anime got inspired by to write the ending. Any way enjoy also thanks so much to @malleusthorns their game motivated me to write this.
Warning: Gore...I guess.
🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁🦁
There was a throbbing that wouldn't seem to go away, reverberating through the young girl's skull. Bouncing from wall to wall of her cranium just like a bouncy ball. The pain caused her to close her eyes tighter, trying to lull herself back into the numb comatose that had started to crack under the weight of alertness. Tiny fracture sprinkled around the darkness, noting to fully break her dormant mind. That was until something icy and wet splashed over her face, jolting her from her slumber.
(Y/n)'s eyes shot open, tears forming at the sides ready to slip out. She was becoming cognizant of the hammering in her head. A shiver ran up her spin before creeping over her skin, laying cutis anserina in its wake. As her sense began to awaken one by one, (y/n) started to feel a tug on her shoulder. The poor girl tried pulling her humerus forward, only for her skin to scrape against a smooth, freezing surface. Something was bounding her arms...and her legs she noted as she tried to kick her feet.
Nervously her bloodshot eyes scanned the room, it was dark and chilly. Something was causing every hair on her body to stand up on high alert, her guts where entwining amongst themselves screaming that something just wasn't right. Endless minutes flew by before a rollicking noise jarred silent darkness. A tapping soon followed, pittering across the floor. One second she could practically feel their presence less than a millimeter away from her. The next all she had was their even,never-changing noise where, she could only assume, was in front of her.
'Please talk' a  timid voice croaked inside her head. 'Please say something' the nervous noise was poking at her tolerance. 'Just talk!' she couldn't tell if she'd actually screamed out the words or only hollered them inside her head. Either way, it did not matter, the footsteps only continued on their way, ignoring her presence altogether. The steps were getting further and further...the footfalls ceased and were instead replaced by a ripping noise that echoed through the emptiness.
In moments the obscurity was pierced by thin feeble rays of silver light. Despite the lights infirm nature it's brightness (y/n) still shut her eyes in an attempt to stop the stinging that had sparked from the back of her eyeballs. Endless minutes passed before a heavy sigh filled the air accompanied by the mirthless voice of the mysterious kidnapper. "Life's not fair is it?"
That question, that signature rhetorical question that had all but engraved its self in the depths of (y/n)'s memory. There was only one person, one person in the entirety of the world that could state such an overlooked fact as if it was the foundation that life was built on, one person...
"Leona..." Her whisper was as light as the air itself, the name of her beloved childhood friend mingled with the air before it was carried off into oblivion. Craning her head to the right, (Y/n)'s eyes caught the ever so familiar frame of the Savanclaw dorm leader. His green eyes glowed in the eerie rays. His posture wasn't as lax like it always was. There was an eagerness to him, an unsteadiness engulfing him. His spin was stark straight, his gloved fingers dug into his hips, scrunching the fabric of his shirt. "Surprised kitten?" his voice rumbled from his chest, echoing through the room. "You really shouldn't be, you've had this coming for some time."
(y/n)'s brows knitted together, whatever had been spilled on her earlier was starting to dry over her face. Sticking to her visage like a second skin. "L-Leona..." her voice was brittle, wither away like a dying rose. "W-what are...are you talking about?" dread was wrapping it's decaying thin arms around her, hover above the doomed darling watching the spectacle. "Wh..why am I here?" questions where bubbling inside the girl, floating out of her mouth and lingering in the stale air. It did little to phase Leona, he just kept starring and starring. Almost like a predator hunting its prey.
Slowly the lion boy stalked forward, his tail swished from side to side, almost like he was nervous about something...When he was close enough he leaned over. With one hand he tilted the metal chair backward. With the motion (y/n)'s head tipped backward. Their faces were close, far too close, (y/n) could feel every breath that Leona took. There was malice and sadness hidden behind his emerald orbs. His face was twisted into a snarl, sharp teeth on full display. "Why do you always have to be so dame clueless?"
(y/n)'s nerves were starting to snap. If this was a sick joke, then it had lost its humor the moment she woke up. "Stop it!" her voice creaked like old floorboards. Her vocal cords strained almost on the verge of bleeding as she tried to morphed her tone into an intimidating one. "This..this isn't funny Leona!!" The older boy rolled his eyes. He tipped the chain back to its initial position. Before waling behind her and undoing the restraints. Just as (y/n) came to move her arms, Leona forcefully pushed the chair into the ground. (Y/n)'s face slammed against the dirty floor, bouncing upwards from the sheer force before falling down numbly once more.
Leon watched as the young girl tried to get up, balancing herself on her hands and knees. as she stretched her neck to look up at him, he noted that blood was pooling under a few areas on her face and left eye. Creating supple red bruises. Though he would never say it out loud, she looked pretty like this, she had always looked her best when she was bleeding of hurt in some manner, it caused a sort of glow to orbit around her. But her beauty did little to make up for her insolence. There was a storm brewing inside him of him the anger, danger, and a newly awoken darkness where entwining birthing the personification of his obsession.
"By the king of beasts," he grumbled as his fingers shot up to his temple, as they always did when the iteration of the situation was planting another neuralgia in his head  "I want you...no, you are mine, you have always been mine! You're just so stupidly dense that you never once realized it!"
(Y/n)'s eyes widen in disbelief, her heart was pounding against her rib cage practically breaking her ribs with each beat. Nervously she brought the back of her hand to her face, trying to distract herself. As she went to wipe the substance off her face. The substance cracked and peeled off the second her hand rubbed against it. As it fell it revealed a sticky layer underneath. Retracting her arm quickly (y/n) tried to see what it was that she had just touched...Another wave of shock rolled over her...
"B-blood?" Frantically her eyes ran up to Leona's begging for answers. The dark-skinned boy shrugged. "I didn't like your history project partner". (y/n) gulped, "How long?" her question silently floated between them, acting as a shield brightened by the dimly light. Leona only raised an eyebrow, he opened his mouth an inch but closed it once he heard the choked sobs and enraged shouts coming from his "lover". "How long?"... there was no reply. "How long have you felt this way!" It was a stupid question. (y/n) knew, if anything she had known for far too long, but she had been so happy in her hubris. So content with playing "sibling" with her childhood friend, she knew how he had felt for far too long. But everything had been so sweet, so pleasant, almost like a fairy tale. It was easier to look for a prince charming in other men and expect her "big brother" to be there and catch her once that prince inevitably broke her heart.
A sharp pain in her scalp caused the girl to look up. Leona was kneeling in front of her, pulling her hair up to look her directly in the eyes.
"Stop being so selfish and just fuking be mine already! it's not that fucking hard!" His yells held a desperate undertone, the big strong king of Savanclaw was reduced to this? A lovesick boy? Angrily (y/n) took in a deep unsteady breath before bellowing: "I'm the selfish one? You kidnapped me and tied me to a chair! You broke that beautiful illusion we had! To want to throw away our friendship for what? So we can break each other's hearts?!"
Leona remained dumbfound, his grip on her hair strengthened. "Actually I ordered Ruggie to kidnap you so that on him" he tried to keep a haughty prideful tone, but her words had left a growing bruise on his ego.
"Doesn't matter! if anything that just further proves my point! You are the selfish one! Just fess up, you're the one at fault here!"
Leona's body had begun vibrating with rage. Lifting his free hand he struck (y/n)! His claws snipped at her flesh,  tearing apart skin tissue by skin tissue as if it was nothing more then silk fabric. Slashing at the muscles until there was a large enough opening for the blood to flow past. Trickling down her cheek the mood pushed away the rotten plasma caking her face, splattering on her clothes, leaving large messy circular like stains.
"No no! This! This whole fucked up mess we're in is all your fault! It's always been your fault!" Leona roared. His pupils had started to dilate, tears were forming in his eyes. Swiftly the older boy lifted his fist only to smash it onto (y/n)'s, again and again, and again...
Laughter, a sicking, and high pitch bordering on maniacal. Leona stopped his assault, his brows shot upwards, as his mouth twisted in a snarl, creases started forming on the bridge of his nose. How dare she laugh at him! How dare she mock him!
(Y/n) opened her eyes, they were harboring similar insanity as her kidnapper. Her mouth opened permitting her to cough up some blood that had pooled inside. "Why can't you just accept responsibility? You were always like this! Even when we were kids! Nothing was ever your fault because you were such a tragic little prince weren't you! If you really love me then own it! Don't blame me for your obsession! It wasn't my fault! I thought you...I thought you were happy with what we had!" Leona slowly pulled away. His green gaze never once leaving (y/n)'s damaged face. His fingers unlocked from her hair, which causes the young girl to immediately start rubbing the top of her head.
"I don't really care how you see this situation. My fault -which it isn't- Your fault -which it is- the point is...you're mine now and that's how it's going to be..." Leona's hand slithered over to (y/n)'s wrist, gripping it and pulling her into his arms. (y/n) buried her face in his shoulder, breathing in his nostalgic scent, as he calmly petted her head as if she was a pet cat.
Time had frozen, granting the two so-called lovers a break of sorts. For the endless moment. It wasn't until Leona had gotten bored of their little hug, that the two moved. Leona's hands dug into her shoulder, he leaned his head down just as (y/n) tilted her head up. Lips brushing against each other prepping for a kiss.
The quietness was disrupted by a loud banging noise from behind them followed by an airy sound that got louder and louder. Until it struck right past Leona. Cutting the fabric of his jeans and slicing through his flesh. The lion let out a hiss, jumping to his feet and pulling (y/n) up with him. He pushed her to his chest as he maneuvered his body into an attacking pose.
"Let go of (y/n)! You horrible beast!" "Ecoute a lui, roi des lions" "Don't touch (y/n) Onee-chan!"
Those voices, (y/n)'s mind rushed back to the situation. She had seemingly forgotten just what Leona had done to her. The kidnapping, the humiliation, the beating...somehow it had all ran away from her memory the moment her beloved Leona had embraced her.
Behind the "couple" Rook shot arrow after arrow, aiming for the lion's limbs. One lucky arrow managed to strike Leona's left bicep. The lion boy let out a pained roar, his arm falling limp to his side as blood gushed downwards. "Rook, Ortho now!" Vil's voice boomed through the chamber. Rook nodded as Ortho replied with a "sure thing". The two raced forward, Rook switching his bow for a pocket knife and Ortho punching Leona with his metal fist. Leona tried to fight back but with his wound and the gang up he mostly ended up getting punched.
Sometime before the attack had fully commenced, Leona had shoved (y/n) to the side. Vil ran up to (y/n) grabbing her arm and pulling her towards the exit. Right before he left the "king" of Pomefiore snapped his fingers, causing both Ortho and Rook to leave a bruised and broken Leona. "How did you find me?" (Y/n) asked as she was directed through the maze of hallways and staircases. Vil turned his head to stare at her for a split second before running forward. The hallways were just as dark as the room she had been kept in, the numerous windows were covered by thick black curtains preventing the moon from sharing its light. However, thanks to Ortho's built-in flashlights the gang had a clear, illuminated view of a few feet in front of them. "Idia saw Ruggie knock you out and drag you to the catacombs" Vil explained, his grip on her wrist tightened. As the group ran to the Ignhyde dorm, (y/n) couldn't stop herself from peering over her shoulder. Expecting..no, hoping that her childhood friend would pounce out of the darkness at any moment and chase after them. It was a longing to see the boy she had known her whole life chase after her, the only difference was that this time if he did catch her, she would not object to his advances. But Leona never came...
and she was beginning to think he never would.
Days have a tendency to blend when together there is nothing left to look forward to. (y/n) couldn't remember how long it had been since that night in the NRC catacombs, how long it had been since that "confession"? Time had turned into a paradox, having simultaneously stooped and sped up. Idia and Ortho had taken the role of her caretaker. Bringing her food and checking up on her from time to time. Idia had even broken his shut-in nature just for her, every once in awhile he'd bring over some games to play. Ortho would pop in every day, trying his hardest to entertain the stoic girl. But no matter how hard either Shroud twin tried (y/n) would never smile, her face would never forme any real expression. She only ever spoke when necessary, conversations with her mostly consisted of nobs and grunts. Some days after school Vil or Rook would stop by the Ignihyde dorm with treats. Hoping to return (y/n) to her old, innocent self.
Deep down (y/n) was grateful for the efforts the boys put in. But it felt so meaningless go hollow. What was the point of it all? (y/n) could feel the threads of her sanity slowly ripping. Her days and nights -granted she'd lost track of which was when- where filled with constant pondering over guilty thoughts. Every single one of her waking moments was dedicated to envisioning that damned day, dreaming of just how it could have turned out. Why didn't she just kiss him? Why didn't she jump into his arms and scream that she was his? That she would always be his? That it didn't matter how they loved each other so long as the love was there.
Earlier that morning Vil had stopped by to tell (y/n) that  Leona had come back from the semester break. It had seemed like a warning after all Vil was only trying to look out for her. The thought that Leona was back had sent her heart aflutter. She may have not shown it but her nerves where a wreck, she was both excited and nervous. A nagging voice in the back of her mind kept screaming that he wouldn't care about her that she had lost her chance the night she let herself be rescued by Vil, Rook, and Ortho. But a small piece of her still begged that Leona would come for her, that he still loved her.
Sleep was something that came in waves, sometimes she would sleep for days on end, and other times she would spend weeks in an insomniac daze. Tonight was one of the later nights. (y/n)'s eyes refused to close, her brain resisted the urge to think about anything other than Leona. She spent so many nights with his face in her head, mulling over every little detail. As the hours ticked by, (y/n)'s eyes started to grow heavier and heavier. The final scene the moment he said he loved her or at least tried to was still so vibrant in her semi asleep head. She could still hear his voice, his shouts and cries....his voice why was it so clear?--
"You know~ in another life, we could have gotten married, you could have been my queen and I, your king. We could have been happy like all those other happy idiots of the world."
(Y/n) bolted upright, her hands suffocating her blanket. Her window had been reduced to dirt. Leaning against the frame of where the windowpane had been was no other than the man that had plunged her thought for far too long. Standing on her bed and walking over to him, (y/n) couldn't help the larger than life smile that spread over her face or the tears of joy that just wouldn't seem to stop.
She came to a stop in front of him. Just like that night, the moon's rays of silver light cast a surreal glow over Leona's frame. He looked almost like an angel sent to free her from her suffering. "What..what makes you think we...we could ever be normal?" A tiny laugh escaped her mouth as she wiped the tears from her face. All Leona did was smirk, he extended his arm, his open palm beckoning her to take it. Eagerly (y/n) grabbed a hold of his arm, her grip was tight, too scared to let go always this all be some illusion fabricated by her tortured mind.
"Oi shut up already idiot...just stay quiet" He pulled her up, back into his arms, right where she belonged. His embrace was nothing short of bone-crushing. But (y/n) didn't mind, the pain proved just how real how was. With a final tug, Leona pulled her out of the window. As they began to fall to the ground, Leona smiled, a genuine smile that for once harbored no ill intent nor ulterior motive and said:
"You will always be my obsession (y/n) just as I have become yours..."

i’m fated to be lonely and i’m destined to be hated
The castle was far grander than anyone anticipated. Large, shining, brilliantly built. There were beautiful spires and elegant towers, all locked within a giant gate that, based on the set up, was usually open to the public. There were people at the gates, looking in and waving, hoping to catch a glimpse of whoever was on the other side. There were guards performing their usual duties, and with every guard was a cat. Some large, some small. All adorable and dressed prepared for duty.
The civilians seemed enthralled when the carriage appeared, all of them getting excited. Children were pointing, Surely whoever was in there was of royal ilk, or perhaps of great importance such as a politician.
They were close. The ones in the carriage were of great importance.
“This just keeps getting more and more exciting,” L said. “Don’t you think?”
“Never seen so many cats in one place,” Phoenix muttered. “It’s almost creepy.”
Regi’s eyes were wide in awe. “If I got a job setting up a security system here, I’d be set for life…I could pay for Tanith to go get a PhD if she wanted. Hell, I could probably go to school myself for once…”
“Tanith’s a full grown adult, Reginald,”  Étienne scolded, “and really close to graduating school. Start focusing on your needs a bit more.”
Phoenix leaned toward the window, smiling and letting out an excited yelp. “We’re here!”
As the carriage pulled up to the front of the palace and the gates closed, the weight of everything finally began to set in. They were about to meet a king. A KING. Regi was nearly shaking. If it weren’t for L and Étienne’s steady hands on his shoulders, he’d probably have passed out. Never in his life did he ever think he’d end up someplace like this and not be expected to be a guard or on assignment. This time he was a guest.
“Just relax,” L assured. “We’re going to be fine.”
The door to the carriage opened, and the group stepped out. Their bags were already being carried inside to their rooms. A man dressed in a deep blue suit with gold detailing and a rather bold cravat stood in the middle of the doorway, bowing politely to them as they approached. For some reason, he seemed just as regal as the building. Maybe he was royalty too and wasn’t too pleased with them.
Though that might just be the nerves talking, Regi thought.
“Welcome to Estmund,” the man greeted. “My name is Alto Graceworth, secretary, head of personal research for his Majesty, and musical director for charity concerts. I’ll be your escort for the evening. If you’ll please follow me, I’ll take you to the parlor room.”
The group looked at each other, a clear level of distrust shared between them. Not that they had any reason. It was just a feeling. One that they certainly weren’t going to take lightly. L and Phoenix walked slightly ahead of Étienne, with Regi coming up right behind him. Quietly, they followed their escort, keeping a close eye on their surroundings.
The further along they went, up stairs and down hallways, he couldn’t help but feel smaller with every step. And that was saying something, since he was the tallest of the group. The ceilings were so high, you’d need several ladders to reach them. The windows were clean, clearer than spring water. He saw the paintings of royals past, most of whom looked rather stern or sorrowful.
But then there was one painting that caused him to stop dead in his tracks. A woman sitting in a garden holding a bouquet of sunflowers, with light tawny hair that fell from her head past her shoulders in intricate tight curls. Unlike the others they’d passed, she was dressed in relatively normal clothing. Or at least what would probably pass as normal in the kingdom. She had freckles, warm sun-kissed skin, and one of the sweetest, most hypnotic smiles he’d ever seen.
And her eyes. He knew those eyes. A deep, romantic shade of pink that reminded Reginald so much of spinel stones. The same eyes he prayed to wake up to every morning.
Luci’s eyes.
“Regi?” L called. “Sweetie, what’s wrong?”
Regi was snapped back to reality, turning to see the others hurrying back to him. “N-nothing, I, I just…uh…” He pointed to the painting, trying to regain his composure. “This one just seems different from the others.” “
They all looked up, observing the painting closely. Phoenix nearly let out a gasp. Étienne seemed relatively unaffected, though Regi noted the small twitch of his brow. L seemed almost enthralled. Or at least that’s what he thought, given her posture and smile. Regi could never tell what she was thinking under the mask.
“She’s beautiful,” L sighed. “I wouldn’t mind asking her out to dinner.”
“She is really pretty,” Phoenix agreed. “There’s just something nice about her.”
Étienne nodded slowly. “Seems almost…happier than the other paintings. More in love with life.”
“I would hope so. I did paint her after all.”
Everyone stood stiff, slowly turning toward Graceworth, only to find him standing at attention, eyes focused at the wall as a man dressed in a dark navy suit strode toward them. His hair was long, a slightly darker blue than Luci’s, but the face was unmistakable. The only thing differentiating them were the man’s eyes, which were narrower and a snow white hue.
And of course, the crown upon his head.
“I-I’m so, so sorry, sir,” Regi stammered. “I-I, mean, you, uh, your Majesty, Highness, sir. I didn’t-”
Davis raised a hand, smiling fondly. “Relax. Formalities are not needed. You may address me as Davis if you’d like. It’s a privilege to finally meet you all.” He looked them over, nodding slightly as his gaze washed over them. “From my understanding, I have three heroes and a designer I’ll be hosting. One of those heroes also being a designer?”
L nodded, giving a polite bow. “That is correct.”
“Reflective mask, strong, ethereal presence.” Davis held out a hand to her. “You must be Lady Lazarus. Your reputation precedes you. Though the stories of your charm certainly don’t do you justice.”
“It’s a pleasure to meet you,” L said, accepting his hand. “I must say you are quite the charmer.”
“I am no such thing,” the king chuckled, turning to the others. “This lovely young lady must be Phoenix then?”
Phoenix let out a snicker. “That’s me.”
Davis shook her hand, his smile quickly fading to concern. “Are you alright, my dear? You’re looking a little red.”
“It’s nothing,” she assured. “Just a little overheated. That boat was unusually warm and the carriage was a bit stuffy. A nice ice bath and some ice cream and I’ll be fine-”
Without missing a beat, Davis nodded to Graceworth, who clicked his heels and quickly faded through the floor. “One ice bath coming right up. Should be ready in a half an hour but if you need to cool off sooner we can have the pool ready. And we’ll have ice cream for dessert.”
Phoenix looked at L with a shocked expression. “Can we adopt him?”
L giggled. “No, love. We can’t adopt the king.”
Davis’s smile returned, though Regi couldn’t help but note the flicker of regret in his eyes that just barely passed. Almost lonely.
Reminded him of someone else he knew.
“Monsieur Allard,” the king greeted. “Its a privilege to finally meet you. Thank you for agreeing to see me.”
“I just happened to have a dropout,” Étienne said. Regi had to stifle a laugh. By ‘dropout’, he meant he recently cancelled a few mediocre heroes who had pissed him off one time too many. Left his whole week open.
“Luck favors us then.” Davis motioned for them to follow. “I’ll show you to the parlor-”
Étienne glared at him, his voice echoing through the halls. “Your Majesty, why in the ever loving hell are you covered in hair?”
Everyone froze. Étienne was bold, sure, but to speak that way- no to SHOUT at the king? Well, Regi had to admit that was absolutely one thing his best friend would probably do. King or no, Luci’s father or no, Étienne Allard prided himself on being professional and clean in any environment. And he held other professionals to the same standards during work hours.
And as much as Regi wanted to enjoy this, this trip was 100% business.
The king shifted on his feet, tugging at his sleeves nervously as he tried not to blush. (God he’s almost exactly like Luci, he thought). Davis let out a sigh, rubbing the back of his neck nervously.
“I’m terribly sorry,” he said. “I was spending time in the cat room playing my dulcimer for them and then the new mama cat arrived and I had to help feed the babies-”
Oh my god he rambles like me!
“Cat room?” Étienne interrupted.
“Yes, cat room.” Davis’s eyes lit up. “Because of my quirk I’m fated to be lonely and destined to be hated by most of the world. But cats aren’t that judgmental of quirks. They judge character, and that’s why I like them. They’re honest. The cat room houses cats without owners or in need of extra care for whatever reason. It’s the second largest room in the house, beating out the throne room and the dining room and just barely missing the #1 spot because the ballroom is bigger.”
L leaned forward, no doubt batting her eyes behind her mask. “What’s this about babies?”
Davis chuckled. “A mama cat, I call her Vera, she just had a litter of ten kittens and the littlest one is this cute little blonde tabby that needed extra attention-”
Étienne stormed up to him, getting as in Davis’s face as he could with the nine inch difference between them.
“Your Highness,” he said sternly. “I absolutely cannot begin any sort of work until you show me this ‘cat room’. I request you show it to me immediately.”
Davis blinked a few times, trying to process what was happening, but soon managed to recompose himself and turned around. “It’s this way. I’d be honored to share with you.” He stopped for a second. “Though do avoid the large box castle in the corner of the room. That’s Leona’s domain and she’s a bit prickly.”
Regi let out a sigh of relief and followed the others down the hall. All the tension was gone, but he still felt anxious.
This plan has to work. It just has to.
