About:

The Shattering is a fantasy web novel about three queer middle-aged warriors banding together to fight an ancient evil that's threatening to literally tear the continent apart. They also semi-adopt a Chosen One kid in the process. Torvola, an old knight who thought her fighting days were long behind her, takes up the mantle of champion once more to fulfill her duty to the queen. Cazan, an archer and a blood mage, fights to protect the kid they took on as a student and prove that there is such a thing as ethical blood magic. Caleste, a countess on an endless quest for fame and glory, throws herself headlong into the battle to save the continent (and finally get the hero title she rightfully deserves).

An extremely blunt tale of life in New York City's gay scene in the 1970s. A snapshot of gay life and sex, of cruising and fire island written before AIDS. I have a half finished (I'll never finish it) review / blog post titled "The Gay Gatsby" . It adds so much important context to Kramer's later writing and activism during the AIDS crisis.

Clear and Muddy Loss of Love Summary:

A natural moat called the Luo river split the great land into two. Jing of the north, and Wei of the south.

One was the Prince of the grass plains who had no worries nor sorrow. One was a lawful Princess who received exclusive favour of the Emperor.

A war turned the Prince of the grass plains into an orphan, she who had laid dormant for ten years had originally planned to become a sycophantic official, to manipulate the enemy kingdom into chaos, but was appointed as Fuma at the Chionglin banquet.

Wait and see, how this debt of grudge from a fallen kingdom and devastated home will be settled.

Blatant Self-Promotion: Lord of the Black Mountain

Nemar Joris, necromancer and Lord Warden of the Assembly of Five Cities agrees to a marriage alliance with Teren Kelfin, the princess of the Kingdom of Sewen. Unfortunately, she doesn't want to be wedded to him. Her twin brother makes a risky attempt to save his sister from marrying a pagan by disguising himself as Teren and assassinating the necromancer on his wedding night.

This does not go well for him for the following reasons:

1. Joris is immortal and can't be killed.

2. Joris informs his would-be assassin that he intends to honor the marriage alliance's terms and conditions. Caris finds himself in the awkward predicament of confronting his biases.

This will lead Caris on a journey of self-discovery and spiritual questioning (and a whole heck of a lot of confusion).

Meanwhile, Teren is extremely haunted. Literally.

Rising Shards: just me rambling about main characters part 1

Zeta Faleur

Zeta (and all the Rising Shards mains) is a Cani, which means when she hit her awakening moment, her fangs grew in and she got weather control powers. All Cani get fangs, a power, and then maybe other animal type traits as they continue to grow. Oh and they can go to a dimension called the void to fight monsters with a weapon called a bloodsaber. Zeta's the most common type of Cani, one who gets just fangs and a power to start. The other kinds are Exa Cani, who shapeshift back and forth between a base form and a big monster form (all Cani have some shapeshifting powers though) and Kanibari, who are much more animal-like than common Cani and Exa Cani. I'll do a post just about Cani lore at some point so back to Zeta!

Zeta's a shy/anxious but hyper girl that's obsessed with Raina Starlight, especially loving Raina's books and a big TV show she stars on called Tower of Hate and Love. Zeta's big gay, but her first girlfriend Jeans treated her very badly and she's still working to get over that. Zeta's trans, and since her fangs came in her transition has taken huge strides. She's good natured but can get very hyper and when the full group is together can get big stupid in a fun way. She goes to a Cani school, the titular Rising Shards. Zeta lives with her older sister Stella, who has raised her since she was very young due to circumstances Zeta isn't sure of at the start of the series. Her closest friends at Rising Shards are Oka, who she may or may not be getting feelings for stronger than just a friend way, as well as Kalei and Lillia.

Oka Ohri

Oka's a big sweetheart despite her upbringing. Her fangs came in when she was very young so she was shipped off to a harsh militant Cani elementary boarding school that forced her to attempt to train her powers that hadn't even developed yet while "shielding" the students form the outside world. After she turned 16, she was adopted by a member of the wealthy Kilander family and ended up at Rising Shards. Oka's Cani power is plant life control. She loves theater and musicals and is thrilled to join Rising Shards' theater department. She's new to having friends in general but she quickly connects with Zeta and Kalei, and soon becomes close with Lillia as well as they're both in theater. Oka gets embarrassed about how little she knows about modern society due to her old school, and relies on Zeta to help catch her up on things.
