LGC UNIVERSITY: SECRET REWARDS
it’s the day all of you have been waiting for…
graduation day! except this time none of the students are graduating… but rather the legacy’s senior artists! all of the undergraduate students sit in their designated spot and with the famous graduation march playing in the background, all of them watch as each of the senior artists are called up one by one to receive their diploma. hooray for them!
as for everyone else, congratulations on completing one school term at LGC UNIVERSITY! since the anniversary event school term has been passed, everyone can enjoy their vacation ( for now )! when the time comes, perhaps we’ll come back to this au and experience the next school term. but for now, enjoy all of the rewards you got for completing the exercises, assignments, and exams! you deserve it and thank you once again for being a part of the lgc community!
to explain a bit further about the point distributions, we based it on the MAJORS that you have selected for your muses. listed below are the two skills one would have gotten for the chosen major, with the first one listed as the “PRIMARY” skill while the second is the “SECONDARY” skill.
ACTING: ACTING & PERFORMANCE
COMMUNICATIONS: MCING/HOSTING & VARIETY
CREATIVE WRITING: VARIETY & LANGUAGE
DANCING: DANCING & PERFORMANCE
LINGUISTICS: LANGUAGE & MCING/HOSTING
MUSIC THEORY: MUSIC COMPOSITION & LYRIC COMPOSITION
STUDIO ARTS: MODELING & ACTING
( important note: for the ones that had language as the chosen skill, the priority was KOREAN but if the muse has more than 80 points in that skill, it would go to one of the following options: ENGLISH, JAPANESE, and MANDARIN. )
as you may have noticed in the lgc university tab, each part had a designated number of points so if you completed that you would receive that many points ( part 2 = 4 pts to primary skill, part 3 = 5 points to secondary skill, part 4 = 4 pts to primary skill ). in the case of PARTS 5 and 6 where there were questions that you had to answer, everyone was given the maximum number of points possible ( 10 ) for completing it. this was partially done because of one of the questions and since we wanted all of you to get the whole ‘school’ experience with the quiz and exam, we decided to give you 10 points for the effort!
regardless of whether you did one part or all, we awarded everyone who signed up +6 NOTORIETY and 1 NETIZEN CREDIT! so the maximum number of points one could get is +18 POINTS TO PRIMARY SKILL, +15 POINTS TO SECONDARY SKILL, and +6 NOTORIETY. to commemorate this event, if you add 18 and 15 skill points together, you get 33 which is a reference to lgc’s THIRD anniversary ( and 6 being a multiple of 3 )!
now the best part… the rewards! we’ve listed below all of the points that everyone has received:

solo : #lgcuniversity, class (03) performing arts
word count : 654
she has no idea what the fuck she’s doing right now. just last week, she was searching up ‘jobs that will hire you with only a high school degrees’, and now, she’s on the train to the city of seoul itself - for an audition. at an entertainment company of all places, too.
Tumblr media
she can’t sit still - her hands stay fidgeting, and her ankles find themselves crossing and un-crossing every five minutes. the passing sights on the journey from countryside to capital are less calming, and more concerning than anything. she just can’t believe what she’s doing right now; mom would have an absolute field day if she was still alive around to hear about this.
(god, she wishes mom was still here. maybe all of this wouldn’t feel as scary if she was. maybe, danbi wouldn’t be as guilty as she much as she is right now. someone would have been waiting for her, packing her lunch and wishing her good luck when she walked out the door this morning; she could’ve left feeling confident, not so goddamn remorseful.)
three hours, turns to two hours, turns to one, and by the time they arrive at the station, danbi’s done nothing but bitten her fingernails down to mere nubs and probably broken the world record for ‘longest hold breath’.
from there, it’s a blur. she can’t exactly remember the walk from the train to the company; any other day, she’d stop and stare and speculate on when was the last time she was in seoul, but today, she was rather static.
her mind was both a blank and riddled with worries - she barely recalls signing in, getting a name tag, and finding her spot in line when it seems like she’s finally come to. like, this is really happening right now, isn’t it?
she’s back to fretting now. her fingers have swiftly acquainted themselves with the ends of her hair - while danbi’s internally cursing herself for running out of fingernails to chew on. the sounds of names being called and the shuffle of feet into what she presumes is the main audition room, only leave her more on edge than not - so much so that she’s barely paying attention to the girl speaking beside her.
“—hey! are you even listening to me?”
cue danbi’s head finally perking up and focusing on the source of the sound - a younger girl with cute bangs and fierce eyes. she’s never met this girl before in her life, and yet, danbi still nods.
in response, the girl groans and rolls her eyes. “i said~ that you’re really pretty - and you better have been listening then ‘cause i’m not going to compliment you for a third time. not when we’re competition, you know?”
again, danbi nods, but before she can make an audible reply, there’s a creak from the door opening, with that same woman with a clipboard standing in the doorway. next up are candidates #312 throught #317!
“that’s us,” the girl exclaims whilst hastily standing up from her seat. danbi’s slow in following; something’s distracting her. “good luck in there, and maybe we’ll see each other on the other side.”
not a moment is spared as their audition group rushes inside, with danbi unconsciously trailing behind at the back of the group - something’s bothering her, what did that girl say again?
“candidate #312, please state your name for the camera and briefly explain what you’ll be doing for your audition today before beginning.”
that she’s pretty?
“... candidate #312?”
and she meant is a genuine compliment?
“miss, err, geum danbi-ssi? can you hear us?”
...
when was the last time she was ever complimented?
“geum danbi-ssi, this is your last chance—”
fuck.
“my apologies,” danbi says as she scurries to the center of the room.
“my name is geum danbi. i’m nineteen years old, and i currently live in daejeon.”

many would be excited about the opportunity to even audition for companies like this, though for someone like alex this was far from the excitement he was used to. why was he here? well, it was because he had lost a stupid bet with his friends, resulting in his ‘punishment’ to be that he auditions for an entertainment company.
it just so happened that, at the time of him losing this bet, his friends had heard that a company called legacy was holding auditions so they came up with the punishment last-minute (though alex didn’t know this fact) and told him to audition.
most would probably be rather nervous over even the idea of standing in front of those from such a company, nervous that they would mess up or not even be talented enough to get in, though for alex he could care less really. whether he made it or not didn’t really matter to him, it was a punishment after all and it wasn’t like he was actually trying to get into the company, nor did he really think that he would even make it.
yeah, he had competed in small competitions here and there, though someone like himself just didn’t see himself really taking part in the entertainment industry at all. in fact, alex actually wanted to become a chef, so maybe that was why his friends thought it would be funny to make him do this audition.
in the end he waited until the day before to even think of what to do for this audition, coming up with a small bit of choreography that he figured wouldn’t get him to pass. judging by those he had seen while waiting for his turn, many of the other people there were all still practicing as they waited while he just sat there scrolling through his phone and not giving a care in the world about how his own audition would turn out.
he wasn’t here because he wanted to be anyway. right?
then his name is being called, causing him to slowly stand from his seat with a heavy sigh before he makes his way over to the staff member who had called on him. he follows the lady before he’s being motioned into a room, glancing around for a moment before he finally introduces himself and what he’s doing.
before long the music begins playing, blaring through the speakers in the room as he effortlessly begins to move. his movements are flawless and sharp, despite having only coming up with the choreography the night before and just running through it once before giving up. though, to those in the room, it could seem as if he had been practicing at least weeks before this day.
when he’s finished, alex is ready to walk out when he hears what’s being said by those within the room, the expressions on their faces don’t show that they’re annoyed by the lack of effort he had put into this audition, rather they seem impressed and it only causes alex to have a bad feeling.
he ignores it and eventually leaves the room, sighing heavily once again like he had earlier before he finally exits the building while shaking his head. little did he know at the time that this would be the first step towards his new future.
what had started out as just a ‘punishment’ would end with him going down a different path than what he had originally intended.

▶▶ LOADING … AUDITION ( january 2018. )
Tumblr media
despite knowing that he’s wanted to audition for ages, and wanting to be in the industry in one way- he’s had a million things on his mind for what he could do for the audition, yet he doesn’t know which one to commit to. he’s no jack of all trades, but yushin is also aware that he’s not talentless. it’d be a pretty good cause for both the company and himself if he auditioned, he hoped. having left the countryside a few years back to pursue high school and the “independent” hustlin’ of life, well. it’s... the struggle is real but yushin is convinced he wants to make it. ( at this point in life back then, yushin still heavily wanted prove all those around him wrong. nowadays, those thoughts are far in the past. ok back to 2018. )
and while there are those who audition again, and again, and again, while he’s given his gamble with another company or two but not heard anything back, or not even made it past the beginning rounds. so not entirely rusty, yushin’s pretty confident in his singing so that’s what he goes with. and with his love for english, their music and culture, yea the ever silly Korean kid who’s never even left the damn country, who finds films and music far more fascinating, decides to audition in english because why the hell not.
so he goes with a song that was quite popular a few years back, but maybe it’ll stand out enough to the point where he’s not singing a song that was a hit from the brush of 2017. so he begins the first verse of shawn mendes’ ‘stitches’. it’s a pity he doesn’t have much skill in the guitar otherwise he would’ve brought that along, but yushin figures it’s better to focus in all one skill rather than trying to show subpar combination of singing, dancing, guitar, or whatever else at the same time.
the thoughts all rushing through his entire being: wanting to pass, not wanting another lack of callback, a big ‘hah’! he can tell to his parents ( not to their faces, just... in his mind. ), and to prove to himself that he can do it, and it can be the great beginning to something. the shakiness wears off by the second verse and yushin’s much more confident, the judges are a blur, the camera is a blur, and he’s comfortable, hoping his internal energy comes through as a well packaged audition.

LGC 3RD ANNIVERSARY : PERFORMING ARTS
Tumblr media
performance song : hoody ft gray - adios  word count of 332
byungho’s audition was completely different from his introduction video. as an aspiring musical actor one has to be able to sing.
during high school, byungho associated himself with a group of ‘friends’ ( who ditch him after he was accepted ) that was consider to be popular around school. for someone who wishes to be accepted by the popular crowd byungho did what he had to do to stay with them. though even if they’re not friends now he had to admit that he owe it to them for getting him accepted.
byungho grew up acting in varies school plays. however, being an idol wasn’t his dream but the other kids wanted to be idols. they took vocal classes, and so did byungho. he did everything he had to so that he could prepare to sing for this audition.
on the day of the audition , byungho was getting second thought. he didn’t want this idol career that the others was shooting for so why was he here, singing? however, it was too late. byungho was here and he was next.
“seong byungho.” he heard his name being called - ah fuck.
he could hear his so call friends mocking him as if he was going to fail. however, he knew better than to doubt himself just because his friends were. byungho laugh it off and walked into the audition room.
“hello, my name is seong byungho.” he introduce himself. before getting the second cold feet, the male close his eyes and perform a verse from his song of choice.
[ staring at 1:40  - 2:17 & resumes at 2:28 until he is asked to stop ]
was that good enough? he hope so, just so he rub it in his friends face that he was better. better than they had assume he was. a judge smile? that had to be a good thing right. they stopped him and with a bow he smiled at them.
“i’m seong byungho, I love singing but I hope to be the future rising actor.” he proudly reintroduce himself.

Hello,
If I’m being perfectly honest, I am still a bit uncomfortable with this sort of thing – the word ‘awkward’ seems a bit too silly, and frivolous, so I refuse to use it – and I do want to make it clear that while I do feel this way, it does not mean I do not intend to try and complete this assignment! Hardly! I have never been one to give up easily.
Anyway, yes.
Nina. I know for a fact that I’ve never spoken to you in person, and if I am recalling correctly, I believe you came to the company whilst I was promoting in Japan with LGC Girls, but that does not mean I was completely unaware of who you are. Truthfully, despite you only being a trainee for such a short amount of time, I do not believe anyone is in doubt of your talent. Your vocals are very impressive, more so than mine where when I first arrived in Korea– but then again, if we all started the same, just anyone could be an idol, and clearly aside from your vocal talent the company saw something more in you. Just in case it is lost on you, this is me saying you are pretty and have star quality. Which is good. Boy groups might be historically more popular with fans, but I’m of the mind that Legacy has a talent for scouting girls of quality. I look forward to you proving this fact correct for others.
Regards,  Yamashita Ichika

ꜱᴜ ᴘᴀʀᴋᴇʀ  ᴊᴀɴᴜᴀʀʏ 2019 ; ʟᴏꜱ ᴀɴɢᴇʟᴇꜱ, ᴜꜱᴀ ᴘᴇʀꜰᴏʀᴍɪɴɢ ᴀʀᴛꜱ ᴀꜱꜱɪɢɴᴍᴇɴᴛ ✓
Even in winter, the California sun was still warm and bright, making it hard to believe that Christmas had only been a few weeks behind. However, here and there store fronts and lamp posts still dawned various bits of holiday decoration— tinsel in red and green, blue and silver, and the gold of a new year's sale signs. Parker had commented to a barista about the snowflake lights hung around the Starbucks before he collected the pastry and holder of coffees for his friends. He never liked to drink coffee before he performed, but had taken the opportunity to break from the line and move his body. There was no doubt he was nervous but the excitement seemed to run just as strong.
Even as he joined his friends and were eventually ushered into the building by staff members, numbered stickers and paperwork handed over in exchange for their names, Parker still couldn’t digest his reality. A friend’s girlfriend had mentioned wanting to do the 6+ hour drive from the Bay Area to Los Angeles for the Legacy Entertainment auditions, and he had joked he’d jump in her suitcase to join. A couple hundred group messages later, he and his four friends (by that point he had stopped referring to her as his friend’s girlfriend) had jammed themselves into a car and took the chance.
All they could say was ‘no’, or at least that’s what he had told his parents and his sister as laid on the living room floor after opening presents on Christmas. “At the very least I’ll have a story to tell people when I get back from break.”
But Parker didn’t want them to say ‘no’. His whole life he had loved to sing and perform, and the very notion that this one trip could maybe be his big break— he wanted that. He watched his sister and cousins watch Kpop groups for ages, and what if— what if that could be him?
By the time Parker’s number was called, the nerves had taken the lead over the excitement, and he genuinely regretted the amount of water he had drank while he waited. But what could he do?
Silently Parker attempted to settle himself and get himself into the right headspace. He hadn’t been completely sure if he succeeded but one moment he had introduced himself to the staff and laughed a little too loud as his fingers curled into the mostly empty water bottle in his hand.
He probably could throw up if he really wanted, or at least easily pee his pants, and yet he managed to control himself. Eyes closed, Parker took in a long deep breath, and waited for the music to start. He had fretted over singing something fun, or something in Korean, but after some thought he figured he had one chance and he couldn’t waste it on awkward pronunciation, or something that wouldn’t leave some kind of impact… He could dance okay but at the end of the day Parker was a vocalist and he wanted Legacy to know that.
When a man loves a woman Can't keep his mind on nothin' else He'd trade the world For the good thing he's found
In truth Parker didn’t open his eyes until he reached the end of the first verse, the nerves giving way to the ease of singing. This was what he loved, ever since he could remember, Parker had been singing along to everything and anything. Taking in a breath he was pretty sure he could see some approving looks from the people judging him, but he tried not to focus too long, just enough to fill his ego before he slipped, quietly manifesting his own success. Because maybe.
Just maybe.

lgc audition solo ( 01/2020 ) ( seoul, south korea ) ;  ✧
Tumblr media
he should not be here. sejun should be at home, preparing himself for the upcoming semester. he should be buying books, checking his email, preparing for the freshman orientation but instead, he’s here... sitting on the floor with about a hundred or so other people who’re obviously younger than him, probably more talented than him, and definitely have a better chance than him.
sejun looks around, watching people go through their dance routines, mouthing along to their song choices, or passing the time on their phones or with cram school homework. he looks to his notes, handwritten lyrics in his shaky handwriting. there would be no need to rehearse the lyrics, he knew them. if he forgot them in a moment, it would be not out of lack of practice or memorization, but out of anxiety. in his ears, the beat plays on repeat.
he closes his eyes, listening to the words as they come to him in his head.
sejun feels like he is full of so many words, so many that overflow, literally into his journals. at first it was just jumbles of words formed into blocks of abstract meaning. then they became a kind of narrative, with more purpose. it’s kind of funny that they turned into songs, matched beats that he had made in amateur music making programs. he truly never really had any intention of making music.
until it was like a calling, a need.
he supposes that’s why here’s here, not at home preparing for school, but here auditioning for legacy with a self written song and self made music. he can’t dance for shit, he can’t even really perform in front of others unless he’s wearing a hoodie and has his back turned against their watchful eyes. he probably isn’t anything like the prospect of idols that legacy wants.
but it was like a calling, a need to try, to follow something like a dream.

where it started.
“beginning to a new chapter”
...
he’d been a trainee before. of course, he enjoyed his past company, but it was so small, and he had been in it for what? five years? and they still had yet to debut a single group. he liked his old company, the fellow trainees, what they had taught him, but he knew if he stuck around in that company, he’d probably never debut. legacy was a big company, they had many debuted groups, many successful groups. he didn’t know what to expect, always had he been so confident, but his wish was to debut, and it felt like he had been a trainee for so long, would he ever be able to debut? he knew he wasn’t the perfect trainee yet, while in his old company he had only focused on rap. he was wishing to become an idol, but he couldn’t even dance. but he had his personality, which was what made hyoseop, well, hyoseop. he was confident, he was charming, and he knew how handsome he was. he knew very well that looks wasn’t what was going to get him into legacy, but he also knew that his looks were a positive plus. it was summer-break for most students right now, hyoseop wasn’t a student, but he was expecting a lot of students to audition. when he was sitting there, waiting to audition, he definitely felt like he was one of the older ones, even if he was only twenty-two.
logistically looking, maybe he didn’t have the biggest chance of making it through, but hyoseop is hyoseop, he believes he can do anything. he was shining with confidence, he was ready for this audition. he’d put on his own make-up, tried styling his hair, and he wore something else than sandals (did feel like maybe sandals weren’t what was going to impress them). his name was called, he stood up, he felt some eyes on him, but why would that bother him? just made him feel more confident. he walks in, a confident smile on his lips. he bows down, then speaks “hello, i am cha hyoseop, twenty-two. known for my charm, and confidence, i can walk into everything with no worry, always up for learning new things”. his talk was funny, because if you did know him, he didn’t often do new things, been a trainee for five years and still all he could do was rap. “today i’ll be rapping, i’ll be rapping moonbyul’s ‘selfish (00.00-01.37)”. he’s mixed the song, instrumental on moonbyul’s parts so he can rap there, and he has let seulgi’s part be in it still, he’s pretty sure he shouldn’t attempt to sing her part.
he begins the soundtrack, begins the rapping. he moves his body to the beat, tries showing what he imagines young people would call ‘swag’. he finishes his rapping. “i’ve also wrote some lyrics” he picks up his guitar, he learned the guitar to impress the ladies, didn’t think it would ever be of use to anything else. he begins playing the guitar, rapping along to the melody with the lyrics he has created. it ends after around half a minute, hyoseop feels confident with what he has presented today.

the audition
Tumblr media
it was january 2019. here sixteen year old lee minji found herself, miles and miles away from home she was in new york, auditioning for her dream entertainment agency. and now, the time had finally come for her to prove to legacy entertainment (and also herself) that she could be an idol.
she thought this to herself as she quietly waited for the managers to begin rolling the cameras. she was prepared as she could have been, anyways. she’d been training in musical theatre for half the time she’d been alive, so she could dance, act, sing, and perform to at least a decent extent. she thought herself to be pretty okay at it too. that had to be a plus... right? she hid her nerves as well as she could, though it still engulfed every fiber of her being in that moment.
soon enough, hover, the cameras started rolling, and minji parked herself in the dead center of the view, her eyes staring into the camera. minji, the schoolgirl from virginia, was gone. now, it was minji, aspiring k-pop idol.
“hello, i’m 16 year old minji, with a bright face and an even brighter personality!” as she’d been taught before, she turned to each side, allowing the camera to capture her face and profile, before facing back forward toward the judges. “i’ve prepared a song and a dance for you!”
at the managers’ direction, she readied her stance, waiting for the music to start playing. hoping to stand out, she hadn’t picked a legacy artist’s song. instead, she performed rough (00:00 - 01:17). she had picked this song simply because it was a clean song. although there were no show-stopping high notes and the choreography wasn’t as intense as what she was used to performing in musical theatre, she knew it was something that would show off her polished technique. she had already gone through half the battle; all that was left for legacy to do was to train her into not just a singer and dancer, but an idol.
as soon as it had started, it was already over. minji thanked the camera, as well as the managers behind it, and walked back into the waiting room to find her father and sister. she truly felt alive while she was performing. it wasn’t just like she was on autopilot; it was like she had finally discovered what she was meant to do. all minji could do now was wait for the call.

THE AUDITION
Tumblr media
january 2015
as jaesun showed up at the audition site, he was starting to have second thoughts. he was a few weeks from turning 17, an important time for him to decide what his plans after high school were. was going down the path of becoming an idol one of them? he had found a love for dancing several years ago, and it was something that he was curious to pursue, but perhaps it should have been something to do as a hobby rather than as a career. his mother, however, had encouraged him to give it a try. “if it’s not meant to be, you won’t pass,” she had told him.
he had prepared a dance cover of haru's a.d.t.o.y., which he knew was risky. after all, the company would know the songs of their own artists the best, right? however, there was a part of him that felt like picking a song done by the seniors of the company would show his sincerity in wanting to join the particular company. if he had been interested in joining another company, he would have chosen a song from that company. that’s how he figured anyway.
he’d been stretching and warming up his body when someone came in and called his name. “yes, coming!” he exclaimed. deep breaths in and out calmed him down just a tiny bit, but he was still crazily nervous, he had to admit. this just wasn’t something that he did often enough to get over the nerves. perhaps he was lucky to not have gone through many rejections before getting to this point.
he bowed to the panel and introduced himself before he gave the indication that he was ready to start. he had to admit when all was done that he actually wasn’t entirely sure if he would make it. everyone that had been practicing in the room with him had seemed more talented than he, but he could only hope for the best. and if it wasn’t meant to be, then well, it wasn’t meant to be.

LGC’S 3RD ANNIVERSARY ( PART 4 )
now at the halfway point of the week, all of the students are asked to go to the auditorium where they meet with their PERFORMING ARTS professor, SEO HEEJUNG ( in the lgc verse, she is one of the two managers for the lgc actors ).
“did everyone do their assignments?” HEEJUNG asks all of them, and while there are some that are nodding their heads in agreement, there are others who are confused over what the assignment was. “for the ones that forgot, i’ve asked each and every one of you to practice on the performance you did when you were applying to this university. since some of you seemed to have forgotten this assignment, then i think it’s best we’ll let the ones who actually did their assignment perform first. afterwards, whoever is left will be given one last chance to earn some points to their grade, unless you would prefer to receive a zero.” HEEJUNG pauses before she begins naming the first student and goes down through her roster as everyone watches the performances.
when every muse joined the rp, one of the prompts in the application is to write a blurb of the muse’s introduction video. for this assignment, we decided this would be a good opportunity for people to reflect back on the past, specifically when the muse was AUDITIONING for legacy entertainment. how did your muse feel as they auditioned for the company? what did they do to impress the staff members who were watching the performance?
for this task, we ask that you write a 300+ WORD SOLO of your muse’s audition! completing this will reward you +4 POINTS. unlike some of the tasks for this anniversary, if you want to receive points for ALL of you muses, you would need to write a solo for each of them ( ex. 3 muses = 3 solos, 2 muses = 2 solos, 1 muse = 1 solo ). once your points form is accepted, we will add the points to the lgc university tab on the master sheet! we will reveal the skill(s) where the points will be distributed to after the event deadline has passed!
make sure to tag all of the submission with lgc:lgcuniversity and submit them before SEPTEMBER 24, 2022 11:59PM EDT. once you’re done, submit the form below to the lgcpoints blog:

                                【✖︎】 LGC’S 3RD ANNIVERSARY — PART 4                      DANCE PERFORMANCE OF DBSD’S “COME BACK AGAIN”
Stepping inside the building, Noeul could sense the nervousness wracking through the other trainee hopefuls, from the tension in their shoulders, or their inability to take a break from practicing their song choice when a new trainee checked in near the desk. A staff member every so often would step out to call out the corresponding numbers of the next group of auditionees and he observed the remaining trainees sink back further into their seat, and others unpaused their music to run through their routine once again. He was more interested in what —or who?— was hiding behind the blocked off area towards the end of the corridor.
He knew better than to wander off and venture into restricted areas. Luckily, his burning curiosity was smothered when he hears his number called by one of the staff members. He had hoped to catch glimpses of what trainee life was like before he would have to accept his fate. It wasn’t arrogance to firmly believe that he would pass the audition. He had made a bet with his father, and he refused to lose the coveted reward of a gaming console.
His father had never allowed him to quit anything after committing to it. He had to prove that he had given it his all to the activity, and ended the season with absolute dedication. He just didn’t know how that would translate into becoming a trainee for an entertainment company. Unless, Noeul was shockingly talentless in comparison to the other trainees and he managed to be kicked out within a year.
He shook the negative thought of his mind, silently eyeing the scouting agents’ reactions throughout the performances. He had been impressed several times by the other auditionees routines, but the scouting agents had unwavering neutral expressions throughout his time in the room. His number was called second to last, and he steps towards the center of the room sporting a two-piece black suit that he had bought a ridiculously low price from a second-hand store. His mother had convinced him to dress the part two weeks before the audition. Surprisingly, he didn’t feel embarrass about looking like a penguin —an uncreative insult courtesy of his older brother— amongst the sea of athleisure.
DBSD’s “Come Back Again” blared through the speakers when he gave the signal to the staff member. The funky guitar riff was enough to transport him back to the moment he had heard the song for the first time. He was in the living room and months away from becoming nine when DBSD’s performance aired. By the second chorus, he had stood in front of the television and mirrored the arm movements. He had never felt so disappointed for a performance to end.
His experience with the choreography instilled him a level of confidence that no other song would have him losing himself in the music like this and just enjoy the moment. Whether he passed the audition or not, Noeul was going to do the song justice and pay tribute to the artists that inspired him to dedicate his entire high school experience to music. He took the opportunity of the dance break to open up his dress shirt, revealing a white t-shirt and between the two fabrics, he unveiled the following cue-cards stacked in subsequence order:
“Please come back to me.”
“Don’t make me beg.”
“I’m trying to be a cool man.”
It was a nod to one of his mother’s favorite movies, Love Actually. He thought the skit matched the desperation of the song, which he quickly tied back towards the end of the choreography, ending the dance with him begging on his knees to his fictional lover. He spots the slightest tug on the corner of one of the scouting agents’ lips when he stands, gathering up the cue cards beforehand.
“What made you choose this song?”
He didn’t pause, blurting out his response with a resolute facial expression. “I wanted to be an effortlessly cool man for the audition—” He could hear the auditonees snickering in the back, causing him to smile for the second time during his audition. “...but when you want something so badly. Shouldn’t you push away your pride and be shameless?”
“Thank you.”

LGC’S 3RD ANNIVERSARY ( PART 4 ) THE AUDITION
It was a beautiful dusk that came sooner than expected. Lin was having a moment of quiet contemplation on the bridge he always had to cross on his way home, his gaze steady on the surface of the river. He watched how light hit the water, mesmerized, not realizing that the sun had mostly disappeared behind clouds. His good mood faded as the darkness set in, but as night approached, so did a voice.
A card was pressed into his hands with Legacy Entertainment’s information. Lin recall being puzzled, but too polite to refuse the stranger’s kind words. The card disappeared into his drawer for some time, until one day he decided maybe he could just give what he wanted a try. That just for fun, he could go and do something beyond the call of obligation. After all, whoever had handed him the card thought he was capable of being more than just his quiet, ordinary self.
Many auditioned on the same day, and by the time it was his turn, dusk had come again. The windows were pushed open to allow air into the stuffy room, and a cool breeze stirred his bangs as he presented himself calmly to the staff members.
Lin was not a good dancer, had no rap skills and couldn’t really sing either. At some point while standing there before everyone he did wonder if it was the right decision for him to come and embarrass himself at this entertainment company that had made so many stars.
But no one laughed when he nearly dropped his mic while attempting to find the on switch. No one seemed impatient. Though it was already late, the staff members did not seem eager to leave. They were waiting for him to start.
In the end, Lin supposed that was all the encouragement he needed. Other people were taking it seriously, they were giving him their time, and he must not disappoint that respect.
The Chinese song was one about courage, and love, at least to his interpretation. Its lyrics talking about dreaming as a member of this universe, insignificant but hopeful. And about wanting to be with the one the singer loves.
It was the type of song that one would sing at a bar, remembering the recklessness of their youth and confessing to someone who was once upon a time their entire world in school.
If there’re things in life that could make you sad Don’t be afraid, let me stay by your side We’ll pull through everything together
So instead of thinking about things like I probably sound like hell or I don’t even sing at karaokes with my friends without analogue, Lin shut his eyes and took himself to a different scene. Where he was calm, collected, singing to the object of his affection, who could perhaps love him back.
When he opened his eyes again and directed his gaze towards the staff member directly in front of him, he tried to channel that vibe - attempting to make that person see what he was seeing. Feel what he was feeling. It was love, but one that came with privacy and loyalty. For this staff member and them alone, as if they were the only other person in this entire room.
The song was over, and Lin smiled sheepishly. “Thank you.” Back to being his ordinary self - just a boy hoping for something different in life, with the last of the daylight running down his hair as a single streak of gold.
