strongly dislike the hyperbolic violence of a punitive justice system that seems to be how the internet responds to any bad thing because. the implications of being like "the person who cut down this tree should be tortured to death/put through a wood chipper/hanged/locked up forever"... do you really think that would help? do you think a tree, however special, is worth more than a human life? do you think an act like this negates the possibility of that person ever doing anything good and contributing to the world? do you think it is your right to declare somebody irredeemable?
you're being hyperbolic, i hope, but the underlying mindset of "bad thing = physically hurt this person and take away their future" could use some interrogating, actually! that's not an effective way of dealing with things! it's not going to put the tree back up, it's not going to help the environment, it's only going to cause additional harm. and that is the thing that gets me, how everything always seems to be about PUNISHMENT and hurting wrongdoers and not about minimising harm, not about reducing future damage, not about actual, real justice that might put some goddamn good into this world
this is ESPECIALLY true for crimes that, while shocking and cruel, don't actually physically harm any human beings. like cutting down a special tree. our response to a bad thing should not be to add more, worse things to the world, to be honest. and i am concerned that the tone of these jokes/hyperbolic remarks normalises a mindset and an approach to justice that should not, in fact, be normalised

My thoughts/head cannons on Velvet and Veneer
On Veneer: I personally believe that Veneer’s sympathy stems from his goldfish he used to have. Here’s how I think it went down. Veneer, like any other little kid, probably begged his parents for a pet dog or something but his parents thought that was too much responsibility so they gave him a fish instead. Veneer might have been bitter about this, because c’mon now, that’s a boring fish and Veneer probably wanted his pet to be more entertaining (referring to his pet monkey). So he might have halfheartedly taken care of it and slowly over time he might have even grown a small bond with it but again, Veneer is a little kid and I doubt he did any research on how to properly take care of a fish (the fish probably lived in a small glass bowl with no enrichment) and of course, the fish dies despite Veneer now giving it slightly more attention. This makes Veneer guilty of course but he moves on because in the end of the day, it’s just a fish. Then much later on Floyd comes along, not in a glass bowl but similar, and this time his new ‘pet’ can actually talk to him. I personally see it as Veneer viewing Floyd as something akin to an entertaining talking hamster or something or the sort. So forming a bond with Floyd becomes a lot easier than his fish. And then Floyd begins to lose his color (much like how fish do when close to dying) and that same guilt begins to creep up on him, because internally wether he realizes or not, he sees his goldfish in Floyd, leading to him eventually helping out Floyd.
Tldr: Veneer feels guilty about killing his pet goldfish so he makes up for it by helping Floyd.
On Velvet: People need to stop making her out to be this sadistic abusive monster. She’s literally just a bratty teen diva, and arguably, also suffering from addiction from not only the fame going to her head but also actual addiction lowkey. Like, I can’t be the only one that noticed how agitated and on edge she sounded before giving herself a few doses of essence and her voice immediately going soft and relaxed. Additionally, just because she’s the stronger voice out of the two twins doesn’t mean she’s abusive to Veneer, y’all need to chill with that. Speaking of loud voices, I’m also seeing the theory that Veneer actually has talent but acts like he doesn’t to keep his sister happy, and like, I get it, considering his speaking va and his singing va are the same and he doesn’t dose himself as much as Velvet, but I think that’s simply because he doesn’t NEED his voice to be as strong as Velvet’s, he’s just the backing vocals, so of course he’s not gonna dose himself as much as her. Lastly, Velvet is a good sister to Veneer and I say this on the basis that Velvet was happy to perform with her brother at all times. She could have done a solo career and hogged all the fame and glory for herself but she didn’t. The fact that Veneer actually sassed Velvet back in two scenes (“Our parents were dentists 🙄” “Why do I have to do it 🤨” tells me that he’s not afraid of to talk back to her like some of you are making him seem out to be). Velvet loves her brother obviously, but being famous, being remembered forever, that was her DREAM, not Veneer’s, so of course she went a little aggressive with it towards the end.
Tldr: Velvet is actually a good sister and a normal teen girl acting her age.

the reality reylos live in is so weird
listen to them talk about their precious “kylo lives” au follow ups to ros and they’re always going on and on about how “wonderful” it is that Rey and kylo live happily ever after together (bleagh) in a hetero nuclear family new jedi order, but they never seem to have an answer for why everyone in the universe ignores and lets the mass murdering fascist off the hook

one thing about dungeon meshi is that it Will Go There. it looks like a cute cooking anime in a silly dungeon but like .. it gets demented fast. the tone shifts after the dragon fight to something uneasy and it makes it clear that the protags you’ve been following are willing to abandon morals if they have to, that they operate on their own moral standards. it’s like the series conveys by vibe alone somehow that there’s no coming back from what they did, that they’re on a destructive path and they know it but going back isn’t an option.. so they continue deeper into the dungeon, since it’s literally their only choice left

I've never been free in my whole life. Inside I've always chased myself. I've become intolerable to myself. I live in a lacerating duality. I'm seemingly free, but I'm a prisoner inside of me.

at the request of absolutely nobody, i present my vaguely fleshed out steddie mummy au
sources: i still own the mummy on vhs
there’s a possibility that the whole story of hamunaptra could be tweaked a bit to fit the story of henry creel/vecna/one into imhotep’s story, but the actual nitty gritty doesn’t matter as much as the actual dynamics and relationships between stobin and eddie. the important part is that a man is cursed to be buried alive, immortal but destined to awaken only to take vengeance.
fast forward and eddie munson ends up drafted into the military. (rick is apart of the french foreign legion stationed in egypt, and i’m not entirely sure how he manages it but eddie munson is apparently a colonel). things happen and eddie finds himself running away from the battlefield, only to stumble upon the ruins of hamunaptra. except they aren’t really ruins and hamunaptra is a myth. so he runs, but when he gets back to the city, alone and half dead, eddie finds that in his rush to leave, he’s grabbed some sort of puzzle box.
at the same time, one robin buckley has dedicated her life to learning more about ancient egypt. her passion for languages led her down a rabbit hole, and she drags her brother steve to egypt with her for further study.
robin is set up with a job at a small museum, working as an archivist. unfortunately, it’s a lot more tedious than she anticipated. it would be a lot better if she could work with steve, but forgetting his glasses at home nearly everyday isn’t super helpful when it comes to trying to sort books.
so what is steve doing in egypt, you may ask? evie’s brother jonathan in the movie literally schlepped around egypt fucking around with his sister and figuring out his next get rich scheme. steve isn’t really the type to open up his own nightclub in shanghai (a la the mummy: tomb of the dragon emperor), but just like jonathan, steve happens to stumble across a cryptex containing a map of the lost city of hamunaptra.
as an aside: i see steve doing the same minimum wage jobs he did in hawkins, just in egypt. i think it would be funny and makes so much more sense to me than him kind of skulking around for news of possible treasure. (bonus: the party in egypt, and dustin coming up to steve with a “brand new discovery” and it’s eddie’s puzzle box that he’s swiped. (THOUGH NOTE: evie and jonathan’s family is Rich. Rich Loaded. Rich Loaded British. So honestly, he doesn’t even have to work)
either way, when robin opens the cryptex and finds the map, she’s astonished. this is what she’s dreamed of her whole life—being an explorer and discovering lost civilizations. so she gets steve to find out where the puzzle box came from. his search leads them to the prison, where eddie munson is destined for execution.
the two of them talk to eddie, and eddie tells robin he’s seen hamunaptra in person. he’s been there. he’s walked the same sand that pharaohs had and seen the ruins that no other have laid their hands on. but eddie refuses to tell them the location, but steve convinces (bribes) the warden to let him go.
so the three of them set off to the city of the dead.
the details of the trip would make this post way too long, but i’m thinking about dynamics rn…
eddie is a little standoffish at first, sure that these rich kids won’t be able to handle themselves, and he’ll be stuck carting around two spoiled brats. and robin and steve don’t necessarily trust him. robin is wide eyed and blinded by eddie’s knowledge of hamunaptra, but steve keeps trying to keep her in check.
at first, eddie thinks steve is cold to him because of some upstairs/downstairs prejudice or big brother protectiveness. and eddie flirts even harder with robin, delighted every time he sees a scowl on steve’s face. even if robin keeps rolling her eyes and ignoring him, he isn’t looking at her anyways. he’s too busy searching steve’s eyes for some spark of disapproval. he doesn’t see that though. he sees worry and concern and fear. and that’s when eddie starts warming up to them.

Something that compels me so much about Maglor/Luthien is that if you change Beren with Maglor, the quest for the silmaril becomes so much more juicy
Because, yeah, on one hand it's still a suicide quest designated to either make Maglor give up Luthien or die in the process of the quest, thus freeing Luthien.
But on the other hand, this is Maglor's family treasure he is asking as bride price (which also makes it an actually accurate as a bride price is supposed to be something the groom's family already has yk), Thingol is asking Maglor to give him the whole reason the Feanorians even left Aman in the first place, the thing Feanor died trying to re-take, the reason he has been fighting for years.
Not to mention that depending on how you decide to read the oath, Thingol is asking him to not only curse himself but his entire family for Luthien, asking him if a life with Luthien is worth eternal damnation.

Just re-read the chapter where Ganishka levels himself up to answer an ask and I gotta say, I love how similar the vibes are to Guts' breakdown.
Oh fuck fuck fuck I couldn't even touch him, he's untouchable we're nowhere close to the same level! I gotta do something stupid as fuck now. Something that gives me more power and levels up my inner darkness and turns me into an animalistic monster who no longer recognizes other humans. Then I'm gonna pursue Griffith who is now the only shining light left in my world.

“虽有兄弟,不如友生。” “既是友生,也是兄弟。” - we are brothers yet it does not compare to our friendship. - we are brothers as much as we are friends. “哥哥保重。” “殿下保重。” - take care, my brother. - take care, your highness. “此次一别,恐再难相见。” I'm afraid this will be the last time we're seeing each other.

i feel with lesbians, and im allowed to say this because im a lesbian, but honestly the punishment of individual lesbians is almost incidental compared to the fact its literally about making an example out of us. its like theres a potential lesbian in every woman and thats really who is being punished. straight women’s fear of acquiring that status VASTLY outweighs my actual lived discomfort as a lesbian. so much of the homophobia i experience stems from the perceived impossibility of my existence and the need to present me as repulsive, not directly to punish ME but to make other women afraid of being like me. so arguing like who would specifically be perceived as a lesbian in what situation feels so shallow when literally every woman is on some level perceived as like. a threat of hypothetical lesbian possibility
