Life on the farm Pt 3 Christmas on the farm
It took some convincing but Danny manages to drag a promise out of Ma and Pa not to tell Clark about his half dead status when they tell him to stop by. As they said he showed up within the day. He was a little awkward around Danny most of the time. Giving him these weird looks but he warmed up to him before the end of dinner. (Ma explains Danny has a heart defect that causes his heart to beat slower than normal, her fingers crossed behind her back, brothers shoulder be allowed their secrets after all)
Danny gets real excited when Clark starts to talk about the resident superhero, who just so happened to be an alien, and how he’d even met him a few times. They end the night on a happy note although Danny breaths a sigh of relief when he leaves. The guy just felt weird. He knew there wasn’t much he couldn’t take in a fight, but Clark made his instincts rear up. Danny shook it off, after all he’s only human, he doesn’t even have any ghost hunting equipment.
Time passes, the Kent farm gets a reputation for having the scariest haunted hay ride around (take that Carter!) that one earned Danny his very own apple pie. Danny ate the whole thing it one sitting with a huge grin. Thanksgiving what quite the affair. Danny dressed up in Clark’s old suit which barely fit him and grinned as Clark introduced his spitfire of a wife. Danny and Lois get along immediately, she’s a bit nosey but she tells the most embarrassing stories about Clark in the big city. Not long after thanksgiving a little green puppy showed up in the fields playing with the cows. Pa brought it in only for it to pounce on Danny who laughs yelling “CUJO!?!? How the heck did you find me?!” Cujo joins the farm, playing with the cows and chasing the chickens living his best afterlife. The farm is isolated so no one questions it, and then Christmas happened.
During Thanksgiving dinner Clark and the Kents made plans for Lois and Clark to come Christmas Eve morning so they could help with everything and stay the night. That was before they had a tiny green dog to worry about.
Danny did everything to try to get cujo to stay in the ghost zone, and he thought it worked. They greeted the couple and all was going well. Clark was doing dishes when he heard Danny’s heart rate spike and he nearly dropped a plate, scared he was having a heart attack. He turned around only to see Danny staring out the window as he turned back to see what he was looking at Danny yelled how he needed help getting ma and pa’s gift from the shop. It should be done by now but he doesn’t have a license and would Clark be willing to drive him, like right now, before the store closed.
Clark is confused but figures it’s because it’s Danny’s first Christmas with the family and he’s just nervous but as they are headed out the door Danny immediately shuts the door, turns around and yells oops I forgot I already picked up their gift, wanna see it it’s upstairs. Things go on like that for about 30 min before Danny just collapses in a chair and Clark pats him on the shoulder and says “I know” Danny pops up and shouts “you know! But ma said?!”
Clark laughs “don’t worry about it, they’re really bad at hiding gifts each year, they try to be sneaky but dad in particular isn’t very subtle after a few cups of eggnog. I can never find them, but I always know when they made it into the house.” Danny just stares for a minute before laughing “yeah, you’re right” the two of them share a good laugh before lois walks in with a VERY familiar green puppy in her arms and says “I think someone went a little overboard on the christmas decorating this year.” Clark’s staring because that dog doesn’t have a heart beat wtf. Danny has dropped his head into his hands and groans and Pa runs in, grabs Cujo and yells “I caught him Martha!”
Clark just continues to stare and asks “is anyone going to explain the dead dog?” Danny looks up
“Who said he was dead?” Clark stares at Danny, Danny stares at Clark, Lois glances between the two of them before shouting “For fucks sake he’s you brother, Danny I don’t know what you’ve got going on with glowing green, apparently dead dog, but Clark is an alien.” Clark shouts “Lois!” She gives him a LOOK and says “he’s you’re brother, eventually he was gonna find your space ship in the attic.” Clark concedes because Lois is usually right about these things and looks back at Danny “I think it’s your turn now” meanwhile Danny, who was a little star struck because his new brother is an alien from SPACE, shakes out of his shock and picks up cujo and says very nonchalantly “Oh yeah, I’m dead.” Both Clark and Lois stare before Lois responds.
“I’ll admit, I wasn’t expecting that.”

Striving to get back to some normality after our recent weasel incident. The coops are like Fort Knox now with various OTT security upgrades. We divided one pen and put Malcolm, our new rooster, in with the two Marans. They seem to be getting along well. Gloria and Cassidy continue to improve - in fact, Cassidy's recovery is nothing short of miraculous. She's barely limping now, and we'll just have to wait and see if her feathers grow back. We have two more hybrids due to arrive this week, and we're hoping they'll be company for Cassidy & Gloria, who are used to a bigger flock.
Bailey was unimpressed with all the work and the attention the hens were getting, so she decided to nest in a clump of reeds to see if that would make a difference. I hope she wasn't too disappointed.
Ultimately, the coops are just temporary accommodation because I'm building proper hen houses. We were lucky to pick up a timber garage recently. The previous owner just wanted it gone so it only cost us a van rental. It was built from scratch (so not sectional) on a concrete base and I had to take it apart with a sawzall. Bailey, still unimpressed, decided to supervise as we repurpose it into a predator-proof henhouse with four internal runs and nest boxes. Each run will have a pop hole into separate, bigger external runs.
If that works out, we plan another, even bigger affair to house an ever increasing flock. I can barely contain my impatience. How did I ever find time to go to work? This retirement lark is far too busy.

A Life on the Farm (2022) With only a few short hours of discovery that this documentary was playing in my town I needed to change my schedule and rush in the rain to get to see this. Mainly because it was a Melindas production. A production group of the found footage festival which I have always been a big time fan. However a different element was compelling me subconsciously that the film would make clear. A life on the Farm is a documentary of a man (DIrector Oscar Harding ) sees a homemade movie made by an ageing eccentric farmer called Charles Carlson in very rural England. After a decade of remembering this video tape through the eyes of childhood memory he would finally see it again. Realising the oddity of the farmer while yet being so strange yet so sincere and passionate about his daily life on his farm would drive the viewer ask two necessary questions "Who is this farmer?" and "Why did he make this video?". We then discuss in the history of fairly secluded farmer Charles Carlson , what is art? how do we judge something? mental illness? human interaction in general. We don't get a true answer but a good film or documentary shouldn't give full and complete answers but should make us understand people in general more. Without spoiling anything of what was on the video that director Oscar Harding found or what he discusses with several video archivist and home film making enthusiasts, what we do discover is that art and emotion do not have clear on and offs. We witness moments that on one hand can unarguably be some of the darkest most morbid moments in life while at the exact same time can also not be argued are equally the most honest, heartwarming moments in the spectrum of beautiful at the exact same time.  A main theme of the documentary is discussing life and death but this can be added to any discussion on a personal level. As a fan of zero budget , self made, DIY films, I receive a large part of it is a sense of voyeurism. Wondering why someone made this film and since they are not famous figure heads molded by an image consultant, I start to be more fascinated in the question of "who are these people?" As a child I spent a few years in a very nearby part of England but it wasn't just the accents , the sheep and cows and rubber boots that connected me to this subject matter so much. I get so called "films" sent to me by backyard film makers and outsider artists all the time for my off brand film festival Terriblefest. I watch literally 1000s of them but only a few make it to the festival. This is usually just for above all reasons to entertain my audience. Through all the films I get gems that affect me and stay close to me for maybe unconventional reasons, reasons I know may not be shared by everyone  I do still show these "films" to similar minded people in the industry so these "artists" or simply oddball personalities at least find someone to appreciate their art. This is why A Life on the Farm clicked with me so hard.  It's not a simple statement of don't judge a book by its cover but more of enjoying the discussion of why this affects me and why it does not affect others. We are all different and some of us even more different than others.
Glad I made it just in time , rain or shine to see this in a theatre.
A real love letter to all DIY film makers who may feel they are a little nuts

Life on the farm pt 5 ghosts are in fact scary
The training session goes well, Danny shows off a little (he most definitely wasn’t checking out aqualad shut up Clark) but ultimately he decides against transforming in front of them. Ever since he defeated pariah his ghost form has slowly started to…change and the last thing he needed was mass hysteria. Before he leaves he corners Conner “I don’t care what Supes says im your brother whether you like it or not, I’ve been waiting my whole life to be a big brother, he is NOT taking this from me. I’ll pick you up next week and we can hang out.” Danny heads over to the zeta tube before turning around and heading the other way “yeah not doing that again, c’mon cujo let’s head home.”he pauses before looking Clark straight in the eye, “I can tell them or you can tell them, but before the end of the day someone is telling Ma and Pa about Conner.” Before Clark could try to stop him the two of them disappeared.
Kid flash then said the words that sealed their fate “y’know, for a guy that claims to be a ghost he wasn’t that scary, I mean really dropping the temperature, shadows? That’s child’s play.”
No one noticed a silent figure hidden on the ceiling or her sharp smile so very full of such… lovely promises
———
It started out small.
Things start going missing at first, just small things, a communicator that wasn’t where he left it. Furniture moved an inch to the left, small things that Are mostly ignored
Then comes the sounds, first it’s the sound of a girl laughing echoing through the halls and then it all came to a head.
The team found themselves trapped in the mountain with red tornado offline and the power stuck on the emergency back up they tried to stick together but they were quickly separated by the emergency hatches slamming down. So here we find Wally speeding through the halls, trying to find a way to reunite with the rest of the team when he comes across a little girl crying in a corner. Cautiously he approached the little girl asking her what’s wrong,
“He didn’t want me, I wasn’t good enough…” while he’s confused he starts to get angry somebody hurt a little girl, probably the same person that broke into the mountain he kneels in front of the girl
“Don’t worry kid I’m gonna get you out of here and he’s not gonna hurt you again.”
The little girl sniffles, her face still hidden in her arms “you promise?”
Wally sighs “yeah I promise now let’s get out of here.” He goes to help her up
“Leave? I can’t leave, he’ll get angry. He always gets angry!” Wally pauses as the room starts to feel unbearably still, he tries to move, just a finger, just an inch, as he feels the room closing in around him. He tries to look away but his eyes are drawn to the little girl as she slowly stands, her hair hanging in her face She looks up and screams Ị̷̼̦͈͎͇̋͆͛͑́͘͘͘ ̵̢͍̯̗̻̮̲͖͔͓͆̈́͂̌̅͂̾̀̊͠C̴̖̦͐̈͊̈́͆̉͋̿̾̒A̴̢̙̱̙͓̺̝͆͆́̕N̶̨̛̻͙̱̩̜̓́̀̽̿͆͒̇̍͘͠ ̸̨̢̡̘̻̗̜̼̗̔̂͑N̵̢̟͉̦̫͉̮̱͉̙̖̝̑E̶̻̞̰͔̫͔͙̺͕̥̬͂͐͊̓͂̿̈́͒ͅV̶̤̖̮͚͇̪̓͆̽̿͊̀͑͠Ê̵̛͉̭͖͚̥̼̱̺̱̜̻̺͛̓̋̇̂̏͘Ṟ̴͓͕̤́͜ ̵̣͚͐̑͂̅̕L̴̨̝̥̰̱̜̰̮̪̙̦̩̍̉̓ͅȨ̷̡͖͖̘̞̰̯̄͗́̌̃́̐̅́̽̉̚͘Ḁ̷͙́͗́̿͊V̸̮̘̄̈́̀̀̀̉̂E̸̤̻͔͛͊̀̓̚!̷̧̛̃̎!̶̨͖̜͈͎̳̩̬͚͒̅͐̊̀̔͂̀̆̉̍̂͝!̷̗̼͒̽̆̂̉̊̄͐́ͅ
Her face is half gone, melting into green goo as her eye falls out, before his very eyes her features grow sharper. She screams as she charges at Wally who squeezes his eyes shut using his arms to block his face with a shout he feels as though he’s been electrocuted and then… nothing. he opens his eyes and she’s gone, the lights flicker as he feels his heart beat impossibly fast. He races through the corridors before he finds himself back in the comm room, he races up to Robin who quickly turns around ready to strike.
DID YOU SEE HER?!?
“If you’re asking if I saw a little girl who is hanging from the ceiling with sharp eyes and large fangs staring like she wants to eat us, then yea I see her.” Wally tenses “See?!” He quickly turns around searching the ceiling as robin throws a flash grenade. But the little girl catches the grenade with a laugh and eats it whole. There’s a small puff of smoke leaving her mouth as she laughs, giving no other indication of her accomplishment. She drops to the floor, twisting her body at impossible angles, the two flinch at the sound of her cracking joints. With a low chuckle she says “don’t you want to play with me?”
The two young heroes scream
————-
Meanwhile
Clark would probably prefer to be in a haunted mountain than sitting at the living room table with his parents sitting across from him as Danny putters around in the kitchen preparing a pie for his new little brother.
“Clark Joseph Kent! I have never been so disappointed in my life!” Ma gave him a look that says not to interrupt
“Not only did you neglect to inform us of our youngest sons existence, but you basically made him feel ashamed for being made!”
“But ma!”
“Don’t you ‘but ma!’ Her, your mother is right. Luthor may be a piece of horse shit but that does not make any of this conners fault. That poor boy looks up to you, he woke up in this world by himself, you had us when you arrived, but all he had was luthor.”
Ma nods “that’s right! Now you are gonna bring that boy over for dinner and we are going to welcome him into this family with open arms. Danny is already making a pie so that leaves you with plenty of time to get your chores done, WITHOUT SUPERSPEED, while I run into town to pick up some groceries, Pa is gonna supervise.”
Danny walks in with a grin on his face “pies ready for the oven, but I gotta run out and pick up my cousin, she’s out making trouble, I can pick up Conner while I’m at it if you’d like?” Ma gives Danny a warm smile
“Oh! You’re bringing Ellie to dinner? How exciting! I thought you said she was stuck in the other universe” Danny laughs “the infinite realms are weird, what can I say. All I know is that I could feel it when she entered the dimension so I should probably go pick her up before she causes too much damage.” Danny gives a whistle and cujo comes running “I gave up figuring out how this one gets around a long time ago, he always finds me wherever I go.”
Ma and Pa smile “well that sounds lovely, We can’t wait to meet her.” With that Danny gives his parents a hug and pats Clark on the shoulder “don’t worry, once you get to know him youll realize he’s his own person, it gets a lot less awkward after that.” And Danny walks out the door and disappears.
——-
Back at the mountain
The team is in position, ready to strike but the creature who invaded the mountains seems to have multiplied each new creature more grotesque than the last Conner stood at the front of the group ready to defend as the creatures (for surely this was no mere little girl) slowly cornered the team when everything went COLD. The creatures looked up as a great pressure fell upon the mountain the creature laughed slowly as the turned to the team. Ḩ̵̢̣̝͖̭̝̮͇̮͎͕͚͊̈́̈̾̂̀̈́͝é̵̡̡̲͉̖͈͓̪̓̄̊̄̐͌͆̕͝͝ͅ’̸̧̘̘͙̝̥͑̇s̵̻̒͌̋ͅ ̸̢̞͓͉̝̜̘͂̑̈́̇͌͛̆͝ͅḩ̵́e̴̟͉̫̹̲̫̼̝͚͇̖̿̌̑̉͘͘r̴͕̝̦͔̣̣͎͈̜̅́̑̾̅͐̔ͅe̴̢̨̝̮͙̩͈̳̬̙͖̪̓͐
Conner tensed as the creature made to strike, but before it could reach the team a great overbearing shadow creature reached out and grabbed it by the collar.
Slowly the room returned to normal as the creature shrunk and the various beings vanished.
“Danny!” The little girl? Creature? None of them are sure anymore as she wrapped her arms around the creature
Everyone stared as the shadows coalesced into the form of none other than Danny Kent, casually holding the creature, that will surely haunt their nightmares for days to come, by the collar.
“How did you even get here?!” Danny laughed
“The old timepiece gave me a ride before booking it, you know how he is, but that’s not important. What’s important is why do you smell like pie?”
Danny laughs and he’s about to explain as Wally losses his shit and yells “what the actual hell is going on?!?”
“Hey man, I warned you. You just chose not to believe me.” He turns to Conner “meet my cousin Ellie, she’s my clone.” Conner looks at Ellie in surprise.
“I didn’t know you could make copies.” Danny comments
Ellie shrugs “their not as good as yours, I can never keep them stable enough for a fight, but they’re great for scaring teens.”
Robin comes up to Ellie “I gotta admit you had us going there.” He said with a laugh Ellie giggles in response
“That’s nothing, you should see Danny when he’s trying to scare people, he’s terrifying.” Danny laughs sheepishly
“That’s enough of that, Conner, ma should be putting the pie in the oven now, if we hurry we can help make dinner.” Conner looks at Danny confused.
“Don’t look at me like that, you’re family now cmon Clark’s gonna finish his chores before we get there at this rate.” With a huge smile the three head out.
Artemis turns to Wally with a scowl, what was that about ghosts not being scary, Wally gulped.
————
Clark did not get any pie that night, Lois made sure of it.
