how do you get the angle & fov so close to the original!! is it just trial & error or do you superimpose the photo atop the game somehow

recently ive been tracing the outlines of the rooms in Clip Studio Paint, and then capturing both CSP and the game in OBS and changing the blending mode for CSP to multiply!

i use CSP's perspective ruler tool to find the horizon in the reference picture and then compare it with any doors in the image (theyre very consistently 2m tall) to find the height at which the photo was taken, and then make a little platform in the game so the pov is at the same height

i then trial and error the approximate position by putting down square tiles and lining it up with the floor in the picture. i'll then build up the walls (theyre usually around 2.5m tall, so i just make them 13 blocks/2.5m tall and use the resizable cube to get the ceiling to the right height). then i do even more trial and error to find the FOV, focusing on matching the angle of vertical lines near the sides of the screen.

i use a kitchen cabinet inner corner piece to "save" my position, i'll back into it to get to the exact same spot every single time. i'll also place a small item (usually a clothing hook) on the wall on the spot my cursor needs to be so i can always face the right way!

often the images have to be rotated very slightly for the horizon to be perfectly horizontal. i'll always note down by how many degrees, and when i'm cropping the final screenshot to the correct aspect ratio i'll also rotate it to match :)

#not an interior #behind the scenes #i'd take screenshots to illustrate but it's starting to get late here #this new method is a lot more efficient than the perspective grids i used in that behind the scenes ask from may 21st #i think the most tedious part of this process is finding the view direction and the FOV #they affect each other so its a lot of back and forth #but once ive got my corner and hook set up i'm good to go :)#ACTUALLY the most tedious process is lighting/color matching #so much mixing & matching of similar paint shades and color temps. specifically getting white to look right is way harder than youd think #the next build ive got lined up for yall has all white walls and will be a great example!#it has both shades of orange and blue/green due to the lighting and ive just had to settle with matching the general brightness

So I watched BF and NPMD for the first time back to back about a month ago, and the fact that TGWDLM uses a lot of green in its poster, title, etc but the main villain is blue and is in blue lighting while Black Friday uses blue for its poster and title but the villain is green and introduced in green light might contribute to my increasing insomnia.

when we moved into our current apartment, the current residents left two loveseats & a recliner, which was convenient because they're p good quality & it saved us having to buy living room furniture right away, but also they're all beige and the carpet is beige and the walls are white and our ikea bookshelves are white and the blinds are white and this week my brain has chosen to flail and thrash in protest at the lack of color in our living room, but guess what, brain!! we just got a puppy & keep spending money on her, so we don't get to redecorate the entire living room right now! you'll just have to live with it!!!!!

#also colin's taste in interior design is much more staid than mine #he wouldn't want the walls painted emerald even if now was an opportune time to paint them :(#an eggplant purple velvet couch? forget it #colin thinks a colorful throw pillow dominates the whole room #colin thinks that navy blue is garishly bright #colin agrees that the beige is bad but what if everything was a nice light grey?#colin says he doesn't like scandinavian minimalism but winces at medium-toned wood #colin says he doesn't hate saturated color but then gives sage green as an example #colin has texture aversions and I respect that but he doesn't even like looking at satin #colin says he likes mid century modern but what he means is ikea showroom #I'm just making fun of him now to shame him into letting me paint the living room crimson

#Design Home #living room #triadic color palette #red yellow blue #primary colors #this is one of the biggest cases where I feel like voters on Design Home are cowards whenever a color palette has more than one color in it #to me this is a 5 star design or very nearly. definitely one of my most coordinated rooms #the red in the wall art the footstool and the rug. it draws the eye across #the blue in the couch the footstool and the wall creates a triangle that sits evenly across it #the yellow in the chair and the pipes creates a smooth underline and echoes in the gold accents #I am so proud of this design and I can't believe it barely broke 4 stars #plus! the shape theming! all my light fixtures are round!#gentle touches of green in the plant and the teaset but not enough to weaken the palette #not to brag but..well I guess bragging is a little bit the point of this blog #look at this pretty thing I made!#and my side table is a fox :)#love this room #it's not even my favorite colors but it's so well coordinated

i dont talk about it much but my obsession with yoshi was absolutely insane

#i said percy jackson was my first hyperfix but no. no it was yoshi #i was 5 when i told my parents i wanted to live in a yoshi themed bedroom when i grew up #i bought at least 16 yoshi plushies in those big bulks and made an entire family with lore with my sister #light green yoshi was the baby - dark green yoshi was the big brother - red yoshi ran the bakery - pink and black yoshi were married - etc #my first drawings were these shitty yoshis with humongous eyes and i taped them all over the walls of home and showed them to my teachers #my first minecraft username was yoshisrawesome and i had that name for 8 years #i dream about being able to buy the mario party 5 yoshi plush because i saw it in a youtube series called ''yoshis island'' which i can #still recite word for word #i bought a yoshi backpack that was basically a giant stuffed animal with its saddle being an opening and i used it as a yoshi godzilla to #wreak havoc on all my other yoshi plushies if i felt like it #um. yeah #WAIT I FORGOT I BROUGHT THEM TO SCHOOL TOO #i would alternate colors and i was the yoshi kid #one day my friend stole my yoshi and hid it to try and play a prank on me and i cried to the lunch monitor who helped me look for it

got to finally put paint on the walls in the new places bathroom, my knees started giving out at a certain point so i wasn't able to get up the ladder anymore.

Fun side effect was that you can see exactly how tall I am by how high i was able to reach with the brush without the ladder.

#the plastic bag is all the light switches. they arnt fully mounted on the wall yet so they got bagged to keep them tidy #also i do realize this color is Very perry the platypus #and tbh! i Think itll work with the tile/sink/counters that are going in here but i also kinda hate it now that its up.#im going to finish it bc like #i already paid for the paint and wont be able to get a refund probably #ill probably repaint it later tbh.#its a small room and most of everything is going to be covered by the sink and cabinets #so itll be a weekend project once everything is in and i can better pick a color.#Its goong to be a Lot more green and a bit lighter in the future if it doesn't turn out ok

help! I can see the scenes so clearly and with frightening detail in my mind's eye but I cannot make myself actually write

#😞😞😞 this HAUNTS me abt fic like. I have very specific ways I imagine scenes. intricately detailed as if they were movie sets in my brain #down to mundane drug store wall colors like my brain mocks it all up. ALL OF IT. no detail left unimagined #and the thing is. other cannot see this! they cannot see the scene I have pictured no matter how much I try to describe it #every fic would be longer than moby dıck. there are 5 other ppl in the diner rn. one is smoking. the waitress has a stain on her apron.#the walls are baby blue. the shades on the windows are all half pulled. the sunset is spectacular and happening at 6:33 pm #it's 60° and the woman walking down the street in the background is wearing jeans and jade green sweater LIKE #I could never impart all of this to an audience #let's not even TALK abt more small intimate scenes where it's just like. the blorbos. and it's a quiet moment #I want to describe the lighting and the way I can imagine the shadows falling and how their hair looks in the light and what they're wearing #and what the whole room looks like I can see it! I know what color the walls are the floor what kind of couch or table and it's like #no one else can see all this! they might imagine their own but they can't see *this* and I just want someone to see *this*#there's a lot going on up here *taps temple*#erin explains it all
