Another pic from my lighting workshop Saturday for @asmpne. Swipe to see the BTS. The workshop was in an amazing big white box studio @neponsetriverstudios which was great but had limited options to demonstrate environmental portraits. So I led the class through the common areas of the building looking for interesting possibilities and then quickly setting up and shooting them. And when you have a red London phone booth you kinda gotta shoot it. The workshop was maximizing results with minimal kit and this is a snooted AD100 for key, red gelled AD100 in a small umbrella for fill, and a handheld blue gelled V1 behind. I wanted the red to almost glow which is why I gelled red with an already red booth. Huge thanks to Gary @exposuresltd for volunteering to model for this and then giving the performance that makes the shot. Digital Camera Work and Lighting Workshop.

Today I took part in the digital camera work and lighting workshop. I'm not confident with digital work and photography and wanted to learn more about it so that I could present my project in a better way.

we started off by working with material and objects. i learned that light sources are very important and can impact your pictures massively. once i started playing around with different light sources my pictures improved and were way more interesting.

my favorite part was working with the projector. I managed to make a small gif from the pictures i took today. I was really surprised with how easy it was to do. I definitely want to do some more work like this soon.

I'm very glad that I did this workshop as I feel it widened the possibilities of what i can do with my project.

Speaking of Jake, here's a portrait we made while demonstrating a multi-light, multi-gel setup I've used before at Bushwig and the Porcelain Ball. This time though we added some long exposure and camera movement to get the motion blur/after image. East Coast Lighting Workshop June 17-18, 2017 Local 52 IATSE’s stage complex located at 19-02 Steinway Street, Astoria, NY 11105.

This 2-day event is a combined effort by Locals 600 & 52 (Cinematographers Guild and Studio Mechanics) featuring master cinematographers, Stuart Dryburgh, ASC, NZCS, Fred Elmes, ASC, Rodrigo Prieto, ASC, AMC, and Mandy Walker, ASC, ACS demonstrating the art and craft of lighting.

In addition, there will be informative panels addressing the current revolution in lighting, shooting HDR, Drones, new technologies and practices for ACs and show floor demonstrations featuring the latest state-of-the-art advances in motion picture equipment and software from participating vendors.

unfortunately, 10 images is the maximum limit that tumblr has for each post, thus here are the rest of the lighting breakdown for the night scene which I have done as a demo for my lighting workshop. Do check out my previous post for the night scene lighting part 1 as well, if you have not done so.

same rules, just like the morning lighting..

no global illumination; no final gather; no textures ; no post processing

just ambient occlusion, a couple of spot lights and area lights; session was done in Maya 2011 and rendered using Mental Ray.
