Gundam: The Witch From Mercury Episode 8 Review
- The focus of this episode was the direction of our newly established company. With the two choices, war profiteering and medical work, it was nice to see them choose the better option. Our characters aren’t looking to fight in a war, they want to prevent it and help those who are struggling. It took Miorine quite a while to think of it, as well as taking time to research the tech’s purpose, which shows that while she is good at management, she’s still a kid.
- Shaddiq seems really focused on getting Miorine in his camp, which further supports my theory that he has a crush on her, or past her. Hell, he even brought up a time they worked together to try and convince her to rely on him. Dude’s down bad. He also has a harem of willing(?) women acting on his orders so he really is the Touga of the series. However, I doubt he actually cares for them. He seems more focused on those who seek to carve their own path like Miorine and Guel. This probably comes back to his time in the orphanage, where he had to stand out in order to gain Sarius’s attention. However while normally a character with that backstory would be a bootlicker, Shaddiq is constantly looking to rise higher and higher. His ambition will probably bite him in the ass in the future.
- I really loved the focus on the Earth House this episode. Each of them comes from different backgrounds, causing them to value different things. It was cute to see Lilique so into helping while Chuchu just sits around spouting curse words. Nika once again acts pretty sus saying she has no interest in anything but working on Aerial. Wouldn’t be surprised if she’s one of the girls Shaddiq monopolized.
- Time for our weekly Guel worshipping. It’s amazing to see his growth as a character in such a short amount of time. He went from destroying an entire green house due to a rude comment to eating his cup curry without flinching as water is being poured on him. Also, he seems to refuse to join any other houses, preferring the natural life. He probably wants to accomplish things on his own by his own merit, which might come from Suletta’s comment to him in Episode 3. But his relationship with Shaddiq interests me. Especially with that “fond of you” comment. I wouldn’t mind shipping Guel x Shaddiq.
- An interesting direction choice this episode is the contrast between Shaddiq and Sueletta’s conversations with Miorine. When Shaddiq talks to Mio, she’s isolated in her greenhouse with him standing outside, no stars in view. But with Suletta, the two are side by side, Mio leaning onto Suletta’s back, as they travel under the starry sky. This goes to show that Miorine trusts and relies on Suletta, while Miorine’s past with Shaddiq was just one of passing the time. Unlike Shaddiq who seems genuinely enamored with her, Miorine never saw it as anything more than just two people working together.
- Prospera continues to be the worst parent by manipulating her daughter. Her voice is just uncannily serene and void of emotion but Suletta eats it all up. Luckily Miorine can smell out Prospera’s bullshit. I wouldn’t put it past her to clone her daughter now.
- More Suletta=/=Eri theory fodder is that she does t recognize Cordo, who Eri affectionately called grandma. Of course she could have just forgotten, but I feel like if you directly bring up the fact that Suletta doesn’t remember someone from her past, it means something. Also someone on the net pointed out that the video was made in the year AS 101, 21 years before our current year.
- Finally, let’s talk about predictions for the next episode. I believe we’ll get a team battle between Shaddiq+Harem and GundArm. Sadly, GundArm only has two pilots, Suletta and Chuchu, and Shaddiq’s mobile suits have anti-GUND technology. Perhaps Guel will come join in just for fun. As to whether or not she’ll win, I’m actually unsure.
