ya know I’ve made a lot of ‘decker bringing u dead animals’ posts & joking about how he’s like an overgrown cat but I’m thinking about it again and the implications ya know??

Would you be willing to tell us your first impression of the chain compared to how you feel about each of them now that you've explored them more in your stories?

Sure!

So, my first impressions were very biased, but they are as follows

Like any person who got into this fandom recently and through fanart, I knew Wild first and as such I loved him best. I thought he was a bit more serious than I would have thought from what 'd seen elsewhere, but I was chill with that. I thought he was fun, traumatized, and just a blurbo.

Now? Now, I like Wild. he's fun, and he has his moments. I do agree that there's a bit much of him in the fandom, but I can't blame y'all for liking him! He's a good character, although a bit stale for me now. He's like cookie-dough, I think. He's very nice and full of potential but after enough of him it's all just the same dough with a few different toppings :( I love him, don't get me wrong, he just isn't very fulfilling to write or read about anymore

Legend, as you all know, is my current favorite, but originally? Heck no! He wasn't very involved in stuff so I mostly saw the fanon content, and half of it painted him so cruely! Like, I thought he legit an ass all the time, and not in a good way. The fandom portrayed him like my childhood bully and I wanted to stay the heck outta the way of that mess.

And then, while looking for Wild fics, I accidentally ran into some for Legend and one thing led to another and- the ass who cared about no one but himself and who was cruel and selfish, turned out to be this guy who shows his love and care in subtle ways and actions. He's brash and a bit rough around the edges, but he does care and he would do anything for his brothers. He's strong and steps up when needed, and he's both intelligent and aware, something that is sadly disproportionate among links, who are usually only one or the other.

Twilight struck me as a worrying and sometimes dumb big brother who is kinda doofy. Like, I thought he was just a goofy but overly defensive big bro at first, and he just happened to turn into a wolf. I didn't know anything from canon, so I just rolled with that.

And then I learned more about his game, both from reading and hear y'all chatter. now? twilight is the overtired big sibling who sees himself as the one who has to be a pillar. He forgets about some of the others and focuses mostly on Wild and Time, but when they aren't around he loves being with the others. He's stressed, traumatized, and I don't feel like he's had enough time to process the garbage he's been through. Honestly, he's scary relatable and potentially dead

Time? Dad, just dad. I knew he was dad, and I still think he is dad. Now, I know now that he has a mischief gremlin side, but before his only trait was gruff leader dad man who I would like to have in my life because reasons (not simpy ones). My opinions of him haven't changed much

Wind? I saw this kid and was worried he'd be annoying. he;s not. i saw him as just a kid t first, but the more I got into stuff, the more I realized that Wind is actually pretty mature and intelligent. I think that's the only thing that changed in my mind though, Wind gained a brain and maturity in my understanding of him, but he was still a doofy lil guy who loved to chill with his bros and is a bit out of depth in this adventure, but willing to face it anyway and do his best.

Hyrule, sadly, was a non-entity for me. I always forgot him and he just...didn't stand out. Now, I see him and know he's a traveler and the bearer of the whole triforce, The fandom makes him babey but he could kill a man with ease, and he's got some self confidence issues, but a bit of snark and a quick mind. He's simple, but I love him for that :)

Four was...I was so confused by Four. I had no clue who he was, why he looked so odd, and what was up with him being four people in that one old art piece. I just kinda let him fall into the background. And then I learned who he was, what he did, and what he can do. i fell in love and if I had the space, I would explain every little facet of his selves that I love, but to save time I will just say that I now see him as a smart little cookie who takes most things in stride. He's a chill guy, most of the time, but he's secretly losing his mind inside and just trying to keep everyone, including himself, alive.

Oh boy...now for the last two, Warriors and Sky.

Honestly? Sky was just, boring. He didn't do much, and he just seemed like this guy who was always smiling and chill and quiet and i just...I didn't care for him? Like, he wasn't bad, but he wasn't interesting. Just that one guy who is always calm and I honestly felt he was overrated.

And then I learned more and now I love him. I think of Sky now as being a softie and a caring person who has been through so much and just needs a good sleep. Maybe gifted child burnout similarities or something. But that's only half the time. the rest of the time? he's the chosen of the goddess Hylia, he's the killer of Demnise. He's terrifying and battle hardened, but he doesn't let that stop him from being a caring and gentle person, and I admire that :) I think of him like a sword, pretty to look at, nice in the background when it's chill, but devastating on the field of battle and totally capable of ending you.

And then we have the captain.....

To be honest, I hated him. He was this tall pretty boy who had a lot of love and cool moments, but, he just...bugged me. What made him special? why should he matter over anyone else? Seriously, why does this twink get so much attention?

And then I wrote him. And I did it again. i wrote him because I didn't like him, so if I messed it up I wouldn't feel bad, but the more I wrote, the more I got attached and, well.

He's strong, he's hardened and he's hurt. he handles it better than most of the others, but they guy still has his issues. Like Sky, he doesn't let that stop him from being there for others and supporting them, and he balances himself better than Twi, not giving until he's got nothing left, but knowing his limits. He's a good leader when time can't, and he's smart and capable. I like him, I like him a lit :)

X3 the premise is that Suzuki takes everyone out to a sushi place that she knows of with a small prize contest if ya eat 5 plates of sushi ya get a small prize... Suzuki once attempted to do it on her but couldn't it but this time she brought back up which happens to be the ragtag Cast members of mine that will be aiding Suzuki to get what she needs... XD hilarity will ensue

Suzuki: -opens the doors to the Sushi place as she heads inside with the others- ^^ this is the Sushi place I spoke of... ^^; where I ate like 40 plates of Sushi and got some small prizes out of it... I tried to do it alone but couldn't do it... ^^ so yea Merrick: hehe -sniffs the air of the place- ^^ heh reminds me the time when I was a lil kid Espio's uncle Seraph brought my siblings and I with Espio to a Sushi place similar to this one

Espio: heh... brings back memories doesn't it?? Merrick: it really does

Espio: to this very day I still miss my uncle but he did raise ya well

Suzuki: wait wha

Jared: when Merrick's village got attacked Uncle Yamato told them to find a person named Seraph who happens to be Espio's uncle... Both Merrick and Espio grew up as kids so they're pretty close

Merrick: soon after Espio's uncle passed we split ways on our own.. we didn't get back together until the meterex war happened and worked together with tails and the others on the war effort I was just glad to See Espio again but hanging with Vector and Charmy,, ^^; dunno how he ended up with them but they're an okay sort when I met them I was quite unsure at the time but sometime after the war I accepted them as friends... any friend of Espio is my friend those were my words when I accepted them... ^^; well as for Espio paying rent I usually see him at the door delivering pizza...

For Bendy, I would think of him as being quite similar to Zarla’s interpretation of Sans in her Undertale AU called “Handplates” (I highly recommend reading her comics if you haven’t already); he may be a bit more nonchalant and indifferent to learning the basics of education (he honestly wouldn’t see the point of it at all initially), but Bendy is a surprisingly fast learner for a toon despite his claims of not caring much for any of it. Although there are moments when he does struggle (particularly with writing and grammar), he is able to work through those obstacles and not let them faze him too much. And I don’t know if or when Bendy would ever admit to this, but he absolutely LOVES math in this AU. He goes out of his way at times to say how much he doesn’t like dealing with numbers, but the dead giveaway is the ever-widening smile that spreads across nearly more than half of the little devil’s face when he can crunch them in his head faster than everyone else within the studio except for Grant Cohen, Joey Drew Studios’ shop/budget keeper.

Bendy can and will admit when he’s wrong at times, but that’s not to say that the Lil’ Devil Darling doesn’t have moments where he’d get into a very heated debate with folks if an answer he makes (that he firmly believes to be right) is pointed out to actually be wrong. It’d be on rare occasions that he’d win the argument and his answer would be proven right (much to Bendy’s satisfaction), but he’d be a bit grouchy/disgruntled during all those other times whenever he is proven to be in the wrong (being the stubborn demon that he is [I’ll admit, I was very much like this as a kid]). He’d get over it eventually though.

Alice Angel fares nearly as well as Bendy when it comes to her basic education, too. She’s pretty neutral to the concept of having one and doesn’t mind going with the flow of things regarding it. Though unlike Bendy, Alice excels greatly when it comes to writing and makes a habit of using proper grammar as much as humanly (or would it be “cartoonly”?) possible; but she hates math with a deep passion (at least, when it comes to the higher levels of it). She can understand why folks would need the basic mathematics, but the poor angel struggles to comprehend it most of the time. Regardless, Alice does her best to retain patience and self-control (even though it can be difficult at times for the angel to do so) and goes over her mistakes as many times as possible until she can understand what exactly she did wrong and fix it.

As siblings, Bendy likes to rub his mathematical expertise in Alice’s face whereas she’d irritate him by correcting his grammar (or lack thereof) and nagging about how he writes his words among other things (”You need to dot your ‘i’s, Bendy.”). But in the midst of all their teasing and jeering towards one another, they do try their best to help each other solve whatever problems they’re struggling with depending on the area in which they were falling short. They may not do it in the most ideal or most “loving” way possible, but it’s one of the few ways the two toons show their love for each other as brother and sister.

And then there’s Boris the Wolf.

While he’s likely to be the most introverted of the toons (and that’s saying a lot considering what his job is), Boris is really the most enthusiastic of the three at the thought of being taught how to read, write, and learn the other elements within a basic education. He has such a childlike eagerness to know as many things as the world can ever offer and is excited to quench the insatiable curiosities that dwell within his heart and mind. He is also the one toon who asks the most questions, doing whatever he can to find all the answers he can look for from his superiors (though he is very careful as to who he asks and avoids those who he finds are easily irritable towards him). I’d honestly say the wolf is very much like a little kindergartner or first-grader who asks odd yet rather deep and profound questions that folks usually seem to stop asking themselves by the time they are practically full-grown adults. The boy wants so badly to learn and experience new things that he simply can’t wait to get started.

Unlike Bendy and Alice though, Boris is more of a visual/memory-based learner. For example, if someone were to read a story to him and the toons while he’s sitting beside the reader, Boris is able to remember and recognize how the words appeared/sounded and would read the story aloud to himself successfully without struggling at all not long after listening to the reader and silently reading the words alongside him or her (apparently, my mom said I did stuff like that with books that were read to me when I was around 3-4 years old). This kind of learning would also, in a sense, explain how he’s able to learn how to do hands-on activities around the studio (like helping Wally Franks and Thomas Connor with working on repairs whether it be on the Ink pipes, faulty/malfunctioning technical appliances, etc.) easier and faster than Bendy and Alice can. Unfortunately for him, it initially took a while before folks figured that out.

Before that time, Boris had severe difficulty learning in almost any and all areas of education, and the poor wolf hated that about himself. He’d try so much and work so hard to show that he’s just as smart as the devil and the angel, but he’d miserably fail just about every time in doing so. The one subject he actually did splendidly in was writing, but it didn’t really help the guy at all if he couldn’t read nor understand what he had just written. And when he tried to read, he had very little success (reading aloud did help him a bit, but he still stuttered, stumbled, and mixed up his words from time to time if he didn’t have someone to help him) and tended to (unintentionally) interpret the clearest of written directions in strange ways (much like a certain young skeleton by the name of Papyrus in the Undertale Handplates AU). Sammy Lawrence had even verbally questioned once whether or not the “dumb old cartoon” was intent on sabotaging himself at every turn (emphasis on “once” [as Boris has proven time and time again before to the majority of studio members that he’s anything but dumb]).

The fact that things didn’t come as easily for him with as they do for Bendy and Alice resulted in Boris stressing out and overthinking to the point where he had bits of anxiety, a low self-confidence in his abilities, and some nervous emotional/mental breakdowns on occasion. He even stayed up late for unhealthily long periods of time trying to study or figure out the answers to some problems due to him stressing over it all so much. The toon wolf was lucky enough though to receive help from some of the crew (if they weren’t too busy at least) like Henry, Norman, Susie, and so on aside from his siblings (heck, even Joey would come and do his best to help him every so often). But despite their attempts at trying to find what learning method suited Boris, he still struggled all the same. However, fortunately for Boris and the others, it didn’t last as long as they feared it would, and they all finally found a method that actually worked for the wolf.

Boris holds a generally neutral perspective on math in contrast to Bendy and Alice, who are both on opposite ends of the spectrum regarding it (he does a fairly better job than Alice on the subject, but he’s nowhere near close to being as smart as Bendy math-wise), but he does have an overwhelming love and passion for reading books; to him, the intricately detailed and captivating tales, along with the occasional colorfully well-drawn illustrations, that reside within one’s pages is one of the outside world’s true treasures that he can’t help but admire. Whenever he isn’t playing his music, socializing with the studio crew, or hanging out with his fellow toon siblings, there’s rarely ever a moment where Boris would do anything else with his spare time other than immerse himself into the contents of yet another spellbinding book, no matter what type or genre it was. Whether they be tales spun out of fiction or nonfiction, read from pages of paper and ink or told from the mouths of his fellow man, they all essentially grant the cartoon wolf (in some way or another) a form of escape from the confines of Joey Drew Studios, a further understanding of what life in the outside world is like, the ability to see through perspectives other than his own, and the power to take on his own crazy, fantastical adventures, from fighting dragons to solving mysteries to sailing on pirate ships in search of gold, deep within the wonderful and mystical realm of dreams.

Still, that’s not to say that stories, and books in general, are successful at ridding Boris of all the unanswered questions that eat away at his brain. In fact, it only causes more and more questions to surface within him, particularly those shortly after Henry leaves for the war in regards to some changes that are being made deep within the lower levels of the studio when no one’s watching.

In other words, let’s just say that a certain search for answers to said questions may or may not play a significantly major role in what all Henry will witness upon returning to the studio for the first time ever in thirty years…

GODDAMMIT I CANT PICK A MARRIAGE

Rune Factory 4 why do you persist in having TOO MANY GOOD CHARACTERS I’ve narrowed it down to two but now i keep changing my damn mind again! I’ve decided I’m gonna see the marriages for the three characters I liked on different save files, but who should I marry first and go with for real on this save file?? i’ve run out of patience for waiting to pick a batchelor as the VERY LAST THING i do before I turn off the game, I need to do it now! I need to do it before I start this final bonus dungeon thing to rescue [spoilery dead character] from the afterlife. I WANT TO SHOW THEM MY CHILD WHEN THEY RETURN. And this game is SO LONG and cos of how semi random the skill levelling is, I dont think I’d have the patience to complete the same 20 so hours three times to complete all the savefiles, and it’d be really frustrating if I couldnt max out all the same skills on them :P SO YEAH GAHHH Need to FINALLY DECIDE between leon and dylas!

Dylas:

* Has the most romantic chemistry in my opinion, and also my favourite main character after Arthur. (Tho I ended up not really feeling that ship so even tho hhe’s my fave batchelor he’s not the one I wanted to marry??) * is really fucking awkward adorable which is MY FAVE kind of ship! * also his romance route is primarily about cheesy romance rather than like.. lots of lusty flirty sexual attraction type stuff that I’m not really capable of understanding. * HAs a load of great character development and seems like he’d be the most happy to be with you. * is the coolest of the monster people, even if im still salty he doesnt look more like his monster form. They coulda just given him a unicorn horn and it would have brought the whole design together! * Marrying him would make me feel less salty sad that there’s no way to get him and doug to hook up when they are CLEARLY CANONICALLY BISEXUAL GEEZ * A minor con is that this would mean I have to play the rest of the game with the postgame cheat mode gay marriage thing switched on. Which could get a bit annoying since its just a character model swap and its a bit glitchy sometimes, but I like both genders of protagonist equally much anyway. i just feel slightly guilty thinking im somehow being disloyal to the one I picked at the beginning, but then again i literally only picked the girl because you cant romance dylas unless you’re the girl and GAHHH I was so happy to know you could cheat and have cheat mode gay marriage so IMMA GONNA DO IT * seriously its an option so i cant NOT take it * make up for lack of doug x dylas route by doing dylas x male protag * also dylas was the one I wanted to pick since before i knew anything about the game, he was my fave based on design alone and then his personality in his first scene was amazing and aaaa * also dylas’s romance route is REALLY TERRIBLE which is maybe a pro and maybe a con?? like.. i wanna marry him cos he had no plot and i wanna make it up to him, but i also DONT wanna marry him cos his route wasnt my favourite plot and aaaa why does my brain not make sense * also a pro: PORCOLINE * i get to officially marry into the restaurant fam! * i have literally got porcoline in my party right now while im holding the engagement ring, he needs to be there to see me pop the question! i just love this dad so much, i have to marry one of his kids * also I can pretend that arthur is still my friend and he isnt mad that i picked his brother over him and we can all be the best family ever

Leon:

* has the best and saddest romance route backstory thing that makes me feel so guilty if I dont marry him * is also my favourite design! like, dylas is the best monster but leon has the best human form design, i have no lil niggling complaints about how he looks like a wolf for no damn reason. * is the only bara character * ended up being surprisingly cute and genuine about his love and i actually really like the archetype of the flirty fake-playboy type guy who isnt the jerky playboy archetype but instead secretly adorable and shy when he falls in love for real! And its even better cos he’s a snarky overconfident trickster guy so its EVEN MORE CUTE when he drops his big facade and lets himself admit his emotions! * BUT admiteddly I still feel rather uncomfortable doing overly flirty innuendoy dating sims because I’m way too asexual to relate. I’ve had a few moments with leon where its just like... killed the moment kinda, and made me feel bad that im not the intended audience. This game makes me care about the characters so i feel just as awkward as when I’ve accidentally ‘led people on’ in real life in high school and had to super anxiously let them down. I just feel awkward even though I know that the character in-universe that I’m playing at probably isnt asexual, im still like ‘noooo i dont wanna trick him into a sexless marriage he wouldnt be happy aaaa’ * but also aaa he has the most chemistry with the female main character I think, he’s like the only one I think looks like a cuter couple with her, while I wanna ship dylas with the male mc. i just really liked a fanart I saw of them described as ‘fox and bunny’! thats totally it, her hairstyle just matches so well with an animal ears dude, and their colours have a good appeal together and stuff~ * Also i have more headcanons about what it would be like when they had kids and stuff! so thats a big appeal because getting to see the kid characters is the big reason i wanna marry a charrie * ALSO, its kinda... uhh... to put it lightly... well, Leon is literally the only dark skinned man in the entire world. SERIOUSLY. Rune Factory rarely ever has more than one character of a different race, and I just feel like if you’re gonna be so limited in your options I wanna pick that option like... maybe if they see they’re the popular ones then they’ll realise theyre making a dumb decision and add more racial diversity in future games?? or at least npcs?? seriously??? He’s not just the only dark skinned batchelor but THE ONLY CHARACTER IN THE ENTIRE WORLD. At least rune factory oceans had the whole dark elf race. (Tho that was weird that there’s apparantly no black humans in this world...)
