#like i DO want to keep growing it out but if re-bleaching and dyeing it so much kills it TOO much then i'll give it a break for a while.

I have virgin brown hair and it’s very dry along with curly. I would love to go blonde but I am so scared of ruining my hair and the maintenance that comes with it. I’d also like it to look semi-natural as to let me brown hair grow out without worrying about my roots, since I’m rather busy and would rather not have to deal with having to re-dye it every week.
Do you have any advice on brunettes going blonde? And how do I know that blonde will look good on me?
this is my exact routine + products i use before i bleach my hair. keep in mind i’m also a natural brunette (my hair isn’t super dark though) and i let my roots grow out a bit.
what i did was a balayage, then got a full highlight each time i went back and now my hair is a level 10 icey blonde. my highlights allow me to go 8 weeks without touching up because my girl does a good job. so ask first for a balayage and let them know that you plan on being a full blonde. what you could also do is a platinum card and do a root melt or smudge so that your hair will be lightened all one color and your roots would blend out, then your following appointment could be the highlight sessions.
go to a professional ONLY. my salon specializes in blondes so they would be able to tell you what they think is the best route to take. consultations are also free for the most part. don’t be cheap either— my hair costs me about $500 every 8 weeks, not including my extensions which totaled to about $2,500. being blonde is a lot of maintenance and money so make sure you can and DO NOT CUT CORNERS!
the products i use are k18, kerastase blonde oil, kerastase shampoo/conditioner in orange bottle, and the amika deep conditioner. because you have virgin hair, your hair is naturally healthier than most. you just need better products and an actual routine.
i use k18 once a week, i deep condition with heat once a week, i sleep with my hair in a braid on a satin pillow case every night, i use a silk/satin scrunchie, and i use expensive products. in this case, you do get what you pay for. drugstore/cheap brands leave a wax/film on your strands which is a temporary fix to it feeling dry but it’s actually not penetrating the strands.
also, lay off heat for a solid minute. i don’t use heat about a week prior to my appointments and i make sure to baby my hair.
i would first go to a consultation and she what she says, stick to a good routine with good products, and then go blonde. hurry up and make appointments now because salons are always busy in the summer because everyone wants to be blonde.
i think everyone looks better blonde lol, no matter what shade they are. if you have very reddish/pink skin, stay away from warm blonde. if you have olive skin, i think ice AND warm looks good. if you have dark skin, i would say ice/cool/ash looks good. your hair girl/guy will tell you what shade they think would look best :)

On a happier note, my hair absolutely fucks! The back section was supposed to be more aqua, but the purple streaks in it turned it into a dark blue (which looks great also).

talking to my mom last night, making preliminary plans to go visit her for the first time since the Before Times, and somehow the topic came around to hair colors. she noted the trend of people letting their hair go grey, I mentioned that lots of even younger folks deliberately dye their hair grey or silver. I think this came up when I laughed that it’s easier to keep my hair dark blue since most of it’s turned white anyway (still have to bleach it to make the dye stick, but it’s so much easier to bleach white hair than red hair lol).
she suggested I “let it grow out white” then, because almost nobody where she lives has “unusually colored hair,” and it might make things difficult for me when I visit.
under a cut because this is just personal venting and frustration lol
for reference, 99% of my visit will be helping her post-surgically, getting her to physical therapy, doing errands for her, etc. i’m not going to fit in with polite society and make a showing of myself or whatever. but that got me to thinking...
I mentioned that I remember what it’s like down there (Florida Keys, for reference... near where I lived for the first 21 years of my life), and told her yeah, I get folks down there are too conservative, which is really really strange to me. I’m used to living in a far more liberal area.
She came back with something like “oh, it’s not that bad around here” and I had to mention her governor and remind her she lives in a borderline fascist state, and she was like “oh but that’s all up in Northern Florida,” and I was like... how... what... you know the draconian laws he’s inventing affect the entire state, right? You do get that the keys are subject to all of that as well, right?
and this is coming from someone who still wears a mask everywhere, including work, where one of her coworkers pulled her aside last week out of concern, asking her if she was still wearing a mask because she had an active covid case, because he couldn’t understand why she would still choose to wear a mask now that the mandates had all lifted. SHE TOLD ME SHE WAS EMBARRASSED, and I was OUTRAGED. I told her she should’ve told him she’s wearing a mask because she DOESN’T have covid, and wants to keep it that way. I mean, she also told me she had a bad dream that her upcoming surgery had to be cancelled because she tested positive (she needs the surgery, has had all the vaccinations and two boosters because age/health), and yet SHE felt embarrassed about being asked that by a coworker. WHAT. THE ACTUAL. FUCK.
and yet she still thinks she lives in a liberal-to-neutral political climate.
I just can’t imagine being able to live that disconnected from the current state of political garbage this country is trying to foist on us. And she’s concerned that my blue hair will cause me undue difficulties while I’m down there visiting, and doesn’t see the connection. To the point she suggested I “grow it out” over the next eight weeks or so lololol so it looks more “normal.” My hair grows fast, but not THAT fast.
I’ll probably re-dye it before I fly down anyway. If blue hair is enough to make people uncomfortable, then it’s the absolute least I can do.
(and for the record, the only other place I’ve ever been where someone felt compelled to make an unsolicited derogatory remark about me because of my hair color was at a truck stop in Wyoming, so if the fragile citizens of the keys can’t handle the color blue, they can just suck it up. It’s good to be reminded that maybe you aren’t as liberal and free thinking and tolerant as you think you are.)

Hang on because I'm about to explain eyebrows to you
This is in response to all the posts about weird eyebrows and wigs in season 2. I'm not by any means an expert, but I have had an interest in hair and makeup for films / tv for years now.
Starting with eyebrows
What happened to Ciri's eyebrows? This is the number one complaint I've seen about season 2 (with the occasional question about other character's eyebrows as well). The answer is very simple: Freya Allan refused to bleach them anymore and her natural eyebrows are not white blonde.
Why would an actor not want to bleach their eyebrows?
It's extremely damaging and can make your eyebrows fall out completely if done too much / too often.
It's a lot of upkeep.
They want to continue having their real eyebrows in real life.
They have other filming commitments.
What are the alternatives for changing eyebrow color?
Like with regular hair, there are very few (or no) options for going much lighter without bleach. You can dye eyebrows darker if need be (but the same reasons for not bleaching apply to not dyeing). Using makeup you can tint eyebrows different colors, but you will generally still be able to see the hairs themselves. You can usually only do a few shades difference before it starts to look weird - so for example you can use a darker pencil / shadow / etc to make brown brows look black but you can't use a blonde pencil to make dark brown brows look blonde.
There are some makeup techniques that completely cover up your existing brows. You can glue them down and cover them with foundation and then draw or glue new brows over the top. Prosthetics also exist. These techniques are generally not used just to change brow color because they're very time-consuming on a daily basis.
Now let's talk wigs
I'm also going to take advantage of this post to explain a little bit about why wigs are used for historical and fantasy shows:
Bleaching and dyeing hair can be damaging and needs to be done regularly as hair grows. It can also be difficult to re-dye over certain colors, so it's not always practical when an actor has other filming commitments.
Wigs are the easiest way to add length to hair; they can be taken off at the end of the day so the actor doesn't have to worry about taking care of them the way they would need to for extensions.
Wigs are easier to style and can be styled once and touched up as needed. This is particularly useful when you have very elaborate hairstyles (think all those braids Daenerys wore in Game of Thrones). Also for deliberately dirty hair - the wig can be styled once and left that way instead of "re-dirtying" the actor's hair daily.
Consistency - the wig stays the same color and length throughout the duration of filming.
Wigs allow the actor to continue to keep their preferred hair color and style in real life throughout filming.
Now some actors definitely do dye, bleach, cut or grow their hair as needed for a role. It ultimately comes down to the individual actor and vision for a film or show.

hey bae!!! I was wondering what your thoughts were on saerans eye colour, are they just altered after being drugged for so long during his stay at minteye or are they contacts he uses so as to set himself and his appearance as far apart from saeyoung as possible? what about his hair? lots of people in the fandom argue its natural from stress and trauma since the tips remain a pinkish colour (in their argument) implying his hair grew out white, although the most logical option would be to say he just dyed his hair during his time in minteye (since in tomato bbyboi saeyoungs secret ending it seems his hair has grown out to its original colour??) but lots of people also just argue that he dyed his hair red again and well I DON'T KNOW
so I'm honestly so curious, what are your little ideas and thoughts on saerans changing hair and eye colour?
Hiiii bae! Yesssss this is such a good question, and I love to talk about it.
Everyone's opinions on this are interesting and good and smart, and there are some fantastic posts about it out there. As for my personal headcanons?
I think he dyes his hair, but his eyes changed because of the elixir.
The hair thing is pretty much canon, after the AE: Jaehee confirms that it's dyed in her voicemail (and I suppose you could argue that she just says this to get everyone to leave her alone, but I trust every word that beautiful girl says). But even before the AE, I always figured it was dyed: those "pink" tips look like red hair showing through a crappy bleach job to me (and I'd know: I have red hair, and I've bleached it crappily before). And I can just see Ray (poor, dear Ray) panicking and covering his head in bleach so he can (almost) stand to look at himself in the mirror.
Because if the hair were a consequence of the elixir, then it would either be stuck like that forever or slowly change back after there's no more elixir. But both SE and GE Saeran stop taking the elixir, and different things happen to their hair: SE's grows out, and GE's doesn't. And this makes sense, of course: SE Saeran doesn't have the opportunity to re-dye his hair, even if he wanted to. Nobody's letting him near bleach—and he doesn't have the energy to stand and stare at his own reflection for long enough to do it, anyway. And GE Saeran continues to dye his hair because he wants to: because it's a choice he's made for himself, and it's the way he looked when you met him, and he likes it: you think it's cute, and he loves to see himself through your eyes.
Will GE Saeran ever let his hair grow out? Maybe. Or maybe he'll dye it another color entirely! He's free; he can do anything he wants.
As far as his eyes go, I think they're a consequence of the elixir for the very same reason: if they're contacts, why do we never see any Saeran without them?
And yes: in the real world, drinking a bunch of hallucinogens isn't going to change your eye color. But Mystic Messenger world isn't the real world—and in Mystic Messenger world, of course Rika would name her cult Mint Eye because she gives her followers a drug that literally turns their eyes mint-colored.
Ray and Suit and Unknown would wear contacts, of course: anything to look less like Saeyoung. But while GE Saeran continues to dye his hair because he likes the way it looks, I don't think he'd keep wearing the contacts. He's not afraid of looking like his twin anymore; he's comfortable with the person he is.
And SE Saeran probably wouldn't wear contacts, either. He's exhausted; he's healing; he's trying; he's struggling. We only get a tiny glimpse of him—but if those blue-green eyes weren't permanent, I think we'd see him with gold eyes in that CG from the secret ends.
But I have to wonder how long the effects of the elixir last. If his eyes really have changed color because of the drug that he took, will they stay that color forever? Will SE and GE Saeran's eyes eventually fade and fade till they match Saeyoung's again?
There's no way to know, of course—and the game seems to imply that they won't. But maybe the color changes subtly over time; maybe those beautiful sea foam eyes eventually develop a subtle sheen of gold.
I like to imagine it. And I bet he wouldn't mind.
He's got nothing to hide, after all.

Jack Dylan Grazer Discovers Who He Is in Luca Guadagnino's “We Are Who We Are”
After supporting roles in the It and Shazam!, the young actor shifts gears with his turn as a capricious army brat in the Call Me By Your Name director's new HBO series.
Tumblr media
by Iana Murray / Photography by Nik Antonio  —  September 14, 2020
A few years ago, Jack Dylan Grazer took a trip to the movie theater. He was in Toronto and it was one of his days off from filming Shazam!, the DC comedy in which he plays the shape-shifting hero’s foster brother. He decided to watch Call Me By Your Name, and he immediately fell for it. Grazer took note of the director’s name that appeared in the credits—Luca Guadagnino—and turned to his mother.
“I want to work with him,” he told her. With eerie prescience, she assured him: “You will.”
Tumblr media
Whether Grazer, now 17, has a knack for manifestation, or it was all just happenstance, his wish came true in the form of We Are Who We Are, Guadagnino’s coming of age drama which follows a group of army brats living on an American military base in Italy. Thematically, the show is something of a spiritual successor to Call Me By Your Name: Grazer plays Fraser, a tempestuous 14-year-old with a pair of headphones constantly plugged in his ears. He’s the new arrival at the base with his mothers (Chloë Sevigny and Alice Braga), and quickly forms a deep bond with his neighbour, Caitlin (Jordan Kristine Seamon), as they both wrestle with their sexuality and identity in the midst of domestic troubles and teenage debauchery.
“He’s an enigma to himself,” Grazer says of his character. “He doesn’t really understand a lot of the things he does but he’s so forthright so he convinces himself that he knows everything. He feels like other people don’t deserve his intelligence. But he’s also very volatile and aggressive at times, and not because he’s coming from an angry place but because he’s constantly questioning who he is.”
If Fraser is just beginning his coming of age when we first meet him, Grazer is inching closer to the end. Starring in enormous blockbusters including IT, he became the Loser Club’s resident hypochondriac at age 12 and a superhero’s sidekick by 15. His films have grossed a combined total of over $1.5 billion. Suddenly the stakes are multiplied tenfold during what are ostensibly, and horrifyingly, the most awkward years of your life. Every misstep is now being monitored, examined through a microscope of millions. (See: His 3.8 million fans on Instagram, to say nothing of the countless stan accounts.) Child fame is a disarming transaction like that: a stable career and all the other perks of being a celebrity, but at the cost of normalcy. That unalleviating pressure forces a kid to mature fast.
Tumblr media
Grazer is acutely aware of this fact, admitting outright that he’s “not a normal person.” But he wouldn’t have it any other way.
“I became 70 when I was 7!” he laughs. “I don’t know if I really had much of a childhood. But I didn’t want to. I wanted to grow up really fast.”
Nevertheless, he’s still 17. When we meet over Zoom, his shoulder length curls are damp and disheveled (he just got out of the shower), his black painted fingernails contrast with his brightly-lit, white bedroom as he rests his face on his hand. It’s a Saturday morning and he looks tired: It’s his first week back at school, which has traded classrooms for hours of video calls reminiscent of the one we’re currently on. “It feels like the days are shorter because the teachers don’t want to torture their students by keeping them on a computer for six hours a day,” he tells me. “You do miss the social aspect of being at school.”
If you were to judge Grazer by what’s out there on the internet, you’d expect an anarchic and relentless bundle of energy. A quick YouTube search brings up results like “jack dylan grazer being a drama queen” and “jack dylan grazer being chaotic in interviews for 4 and a half minutes straight.” He trolled a YouTube gamer on Instagram Live. His TikToks are inscrutable.
But here, he’s incredibly earnest, as he excitedly talks about his skateboarding hobby (a skill he picked up after auditioning for Mid90s) and his attempts to learn the flute (“I need to learn how to read sheet music, but it’s like reading Hebrew!”). He’s calm and thoughtful, as if this project we’re discussing requires a shift in sensibility.
Tumblr media
For Grazer, acting had always simply been fun. While other kids might take up a sport or get hooked on video games, he performed in musical theater with the Adderley School because he “just wanted to play.” His roles so far have been reflective of his carefree approach to the job: Up until now, he’s portrayed best friends with biting one-liners, or the younger version of the protagonist in a flashback. IT is a prime example of both. In the horror franchise, Grazer plays a neurotic germaphobe running from a fear-eating clown, but in reality, the film felt like “summer camp.” Both films never felt like work; he just learned his lines and got to hang out on extravagant sets with his best friends. Likewise, school amounted to being pulled off set by a teacher in between takes to cram in the mandatory hours.
But with We Are Who We Are, he steps into his first leading role, one that required him to convey longing and confusion through Elio-like physicality and subtext. It’s abnormal to talk about the show as a turning point for an actor who isn’t even a legal adult yet, but Grazer explains that the show required him to radically change his approach to acting. He spent six months in Italy (“It felt like I was in Call Me By Your Name.”) and built up the character beyond what was on the page in collaboration with Guadagnino. “His philosophy is that we know our characters better than anyone else—even the writers—because we are the characters essentially,” he explains.
In many ways, Grazer absorbed that philosophy entirely. He describes the experience less as a performance and more like a “rebirth”—perhaps even an attempt at method acting. Over those months in Italy, the distinctions between actor and character gradually became indistinguishable. “I had no other choice but to act and surrender to Fraser entirely and throw Jack Dylan Grazer out the window,” he says. “I would go out and get a coffee as Fraser and walk like Fraser. That was just me trying to get into [character], but then I slipped at some point and just became Fraser.”
One day on set, he looked at himself in the mirror, and the hardened kid standing there with a bleach-blond dye job and oversized shorts was unrecognizable to him. He could only see Fraser. While talking about his character, he seems to unintentionally switch pronouns, from “he” to “I”, as if the two still remain one and the same.
Tumblr media
The process was so transformative that it forced him to re-evaluate himself entirely. “I never really struggled with identity before,” Grazer tells me. “But I think the show opened up my eyes to question myself. Being Fraser forced me to question what I wanted and what I stood for and what I believed in. At some points, the show bled into reality.”
When asked how he has changed, he takes a pause and a pensive swivel in his armchair, unsure of how to answer. “I think I was more ignorant before I did the show,” he says, and he leaves it at that.
Coming of agers are a particularly well-trodden genre, but there’s a naturalistic, raw energy to We Are Who We Are that is distinctive from what we’ve seen before. Each character quietly struggles with their own problems and growing pains—for Fraser, it’s his sexuality. Caught in a fraught relationship with his lesbian mother and an infatuation with another man, his story doesn’t tick off the familiar beats. His personal discovery is instead internal and intimate. "I think every single person born as a boy has this guard. It’s this guard that they don’t even realize they have, where they’re initially like, ‘Being gay? I could never.’ But we’re all born as humans who are attracted to whatever we’re attracted to," he says. "I think that’s how Fraser interprets it as well. Yes, he’s reserved and nervous about it in the beginning because he’s unlocking this new idea for himself. He’s figuring it out, and that’s what you see in the show: him coming to terms with this idea."
Tumblr media
As our conversation winds to a close, I ask him if Martin Scorsese ever visited the set—his daughter, Francesca, plays the confident cool girl of the show’s teen cohort—and his eyes widen. “That was actually a really stressful day,” he divulges. Still, he revels in the memory, speaking so fast it’s like someone has put him on 2.5x speed as he shows off his impersonation of Guadagnino. The director was so nervous about Scorsese’s presence that production halted that day.
“Luca was like, ‘I cannot do this today because Martin Scorsese is on my set. I don’t know what to do, this is not good for me. I will have a panic attack before the day ends,’” Grazer says in his best Italian accent. “It’s like if you’re a painter and Van Gogh shows up.”
Tumblr media
Admittedly, Grazer is also a self-proclaimed superfan of the Wolf of Wall Street director, and afterwards, he got to spend several days with his idol, as they went on lavish restaurant outings in Italy and talked about anything and everything.
He takes a second to compose himself. A giddy, Cheshire cat smile spreads across his face. The kid in him comes flooding back.
“...Oh my god!” he yells. “I met Martin Scorsese!”

dress by ts= rowaelin
this might be long but i thought of it and it has to be done :)
“our secret moments in your crowded room they've got no idea about me and you”
okay so literally in QoS they communicate basically entirely in silence, like they’re the only people in a crowded room, especially at arobynn’s party they are basically flirting without anyone knowing because at the time things are basically all platonic to everyone else. no one knows that they’re growing feelings or having secret conversations.
“there is an indentation in the shape of you made your mark on me, a golden tattoo”
this is EoS and KoA energy-- the claiming marks, and the tattoos that rowan gives aelin. ALSO the choice of the color golden screams rowaelin because as we know thats the nightgowns color and i feel like it comes up a lot when describing aelin-- golden eyes, hair etc.
“all of this silence and patience, pining in anticipation my hands are shaking from holding back from you all of this silence and patience, pining and desperately waiting my hands are shaking from holding back from all this ”
QoS is almost entirely sexual tension so i think this is very self explanatory. they were both holding back the way they felt about each other when they both clearly wanted something more. this gives me vibes of rowan needing to cool down from aelin’s presence and taking forever to fall asleep with her so near yet so far away.
“say my name and everything just stops i don't want you like a best friend”
um please so several points-- 1.) rowan is the first person that starts calling celaena by her real name, aelin ( if i remember correctly i don’t think he really ever calls her celeana?? only aelin and she gets mad, but i may be wrong bc it has been a while since i’ve read HoF) he makes her comfortable with her real identity and helped her come to terms with who she was and her name. 2.) fireheart. that’s it. it’s who she was to her family and its who she is now to rowan. ALSO “i don’t want you like a best friend” their relationship goes from basically entirely platonic in HoF to something more in the late books. in QoS, it took them forever to get together bc they had to break through the past definition of their relationship which was strictly friends, carranam, and fighting partners. but they obviously wanted more, and started feeling more comfortable with their past trauma and relationship baggage to face that.
“only bought this dress so you could take it off take it off  carve your name into my bedpost 'cause I don't want you like a best friend only bought this dress so you could take it off”
ALRIGHT HERES THE KICKER. so this is obviously referring to the golden nightgown that rowan requests. i KNOW that he technically doesn't even take it off her and they don’t go there but she literally only bought it for him bc he said he would love that color. in conclusion it still counts and the sexual tension was there so.
“inescapable, I'm not even gonna try and if I get burned, at least we were electrified”
SO i feel like they both know that they are inevitable and i think it kinda ties into the idea of the mating bond being something that you can’t break or avoid. they subconsciously knew that being apart would not work. AND we have a reference to aelin’s fire... she might burn too brightly, but at least she burned.
“i'm spilling wine in the bathtub, you kiss my face and we're both drunk everyone thinks that they know us, but they know nothing about”
HAHA we have a little reference to aelin bathing rowan and washing his hair in that one scene. tbh this doesn’t really fit that well but it’s not too out of place-- i also may not be thinking of anything bc i havent re read them in a while. anyways, we also have another moment where rowan and aelin are kind of keeping what is blooming between them a secret from the rest of aelin’s court.
“flashback when you met me your buzzcut and my hair bleached”
their haircuts at the beginning of QoS... rowan cut his long ass hair and aelin had to dye her hair red to go undercover and not get caught... WHY DOES IT WORK SO WELL I--
“even in my worst times, you could see the best of me”
in HoF aelin was at the lowest point of her life. even though he was closed off was dealing with his own baggage, he saw the power aelin held. the light that had been snuffed out inside of her. he pushed her because he knew what she was capable of. and i forgot who said this, but rowan was never afraid of aelin the way chaol was. he saw every part of her and loved all of it.
“flashback to my mistakes my rebounds, my earthquakes”
rebounds??? *cough cough* CHAOL AND DORIAN *cough* okay but for real these weren’t really mistakes but she had made plenty of other mistakes around that time. he helped set her on a better and clearer path. and i guess we could technically consider chaol a rebound...
“even in my worst lies, you saw the truth of me”
her keeping the mating bond from him? her keeping so many of her plans a secret? her pretending she’s okay and KoA and him seeing right through her? yea <3
“and I woke up just in time now I wake up by your side”
I think around nehemias death she was kind of in a trance where she felt like nothing mattered and her life was useless (the whole “i do not care” scene where she was lashing out is a good example), but he helped her out of that. she has that one quote that im gonna paraphrase about how he held her hand and walked back into the light with her. He essentially woke her up from the nightmare she was living and now she wakes up next to him. this literally also happens in HoF because he starts letting her sleep in his bed, which was a huge step in the right direction for their relationship. he started seeing her as a friend and he literally falls asleep with his hand over her heart bye.
“my one and only, my lifeline”
mates are truly each others one and only and i think it’s beautiful that she says “lifeline” because that’s literally what it is to them. they are stronger together and even the forces of their existence are tied together <3
anyways if you read this whole thing thank u lol i just had to get that out:)

How i headcannon every Magnus archives character's hair:
John : he growed his hair out in college, the moment his grandma didnt have a say on it any more. He has a dark rich brown colour with a few grey streaks with a brighter and more prominent one in the front. His hair i quite curly, he doesn't know how to do curly hair and brushes through it dry, so it is frizzy and messy (someone show him the curly girl method please). He usually keeps it in a low back ponytail to get out of the way but it still always does. Secretly jon really loves his hair, and it is the thing he likes the most about his appearance, but he wouldn't say that outloud to nobody. After the apocalypse while still in the safehouse he gives himself an absolute massacre of a haircut, cutting it very short with kitchen scissors, it was very uneven, he accidentally left some longer whispy spots and has some bald patches, Martin tried to help but he only made it worse. It was the first time in weeks either of them laughed.
Martin: has dark blond hair, he always kept it very short in a generic "mens cut" because he never really knew how to do it. He always goes to the closest and cheapest barber he finds. Maybe once or twice he had an idea of a haircut he wanted to try out, but was always to shy to ask for it. Sometime during s4 he stopped getting it cut and let it get kinda long for the first time ever. In s5 his hair gets to around his chin, he discovers that his hair is a bit wavy. His hair is very very soft, he enjoys twidiling with it when he's stressed. John likes Martin's hair like this, he says it frames his face nicely.
Sasha (the real one): she has pin straight shiny brown hair. It is quite long and goes down to her waist. She is painfully trying to grow out bangs she cut while drunk more than a year ago. She enjoys doing all kind of hairstyles and changes them up often. to work she usually puts it up in a bun or a half up- half down hairstyle.
Tim: he has one of those "floppy" haircuts when the sides and back are cropped short and the top is long. He definitely dyed it many different colours in the past, most noticeablly purple. When he landed a job at the institute Elias insisted he would dye it to his natural brown colour and he agrees but is still salty about it. His ends are still very damaged from years of bleach. In s 1-2 he used to take care of it very often, and went to the salon every month and a half to get it re-cut. In s3 he stops caring and lets it get long and messy, he starts wearing it in a bun to get it out of his way. It does not look very nice.
Melanie: her poor hair has not seen its natural colour in years. It has been dyed every colour and bleached way to many times. The thing is damaged beyond repair. When she joins the institute Elias asks her to dye it back to her natural colour, a mousey brown, but she dyes it an electric blue as a big "fuck you Elias". After she leaves the institute she decided to give it a rest and stopped dyeing it. It faded into an uneven green mess. She hasn't have time to redye it since the apocalypse, but Georgie promised her she well help her once they have time.
Georgie: she has very curly and bouncy hair styled into a bob around jaw length with a few face framing strands that maybe could pass as bangs. The ends of her hair are dyed a honey blond, and are the remaining evidence of a questionable dye job from years back, maybe when she was still with John. Her roots are a rich brown, almost black colour.
Basira: Basira is a higabi. For work she usually picks a simple dark (usually black) stretch-cotten scarf that she ties on her nape. She does also have a collection of nicer headscarfs that she wears for special occasions, many of them silk with beautiful patterns. she is also really good a tieing them in creative ways but no one from the archives staff or the police have seen her do that.
Daisy: she has a pin straight, dark blond lob, hitting exactly her collar bones. It is very well kept and always looks stern and tidy, even during a hunt. After the coffin she lets go of her pedantic maintenance routine and lets it grow a bit longer. Everyone, including Basira is shocked to learn that daisy's hair is naturally a warm Auburn that curls slightly. She starts growing her roots out and stops straightening it and began wearing it in a loose messy bun.
Elias: he has a sleek and professional haircut with salt and pepper stripes that look so perfect that they seem dyed. His hair is always in impeccable condition, with never a single hair out if place. Tim and Sasha suspect it's maybe a wig.
Note; i dont have specific race headcannons so i didnt specify any race- specific hairstyle. John, Georgie and Basira are left ambiguous on purpose.

Red Hair Dye (Kirishima Eijiro x reader)
Warnings: none
Genre: fluff
Type: Headcanon/Oneshot (gn)
Word Count: 1310
A/N: I’m pretty sure Kirishima dyed his hair when he was young, so I wrote a helping him redye his hair scenario. I’ve never dyed my hair, so it’s probably inaccurate, but I did do some research, It’s a headcanon and oneshot kind of thing since I didn’t know what you wanted. Enjoy!
———————————
You and Eijiro were talking about the new dorms, and you thought it might have been a trick of light, but was Kirishima’s hair growing out black?
Shrugging it off, you left it alone and continued to listen to Eijiro talk about how cool it would be to live with his classmates
You mentioned it to him and he stopped talking for just a moment
Originally he shrugged it off, but over the next few weeks, he let his hair grow out and cut it
It was the weekend, and almost choked on your own spit when you saw him walk down the stairs
Again, you asked him about his hair
Eijiro suddenly got excited, and grabbed your hand screaming something about how it would be awesome to have you help him dye his hair back to red
He practically ran with you in tow to the market so he could buy his hair dye
Everyone was looking at you and your overenthusiastic boyfriend running through the crowd, but Eijiro was too excited to notice
Once you finally bought the dye you two literally spent thirty minutes rummaging through the shelves to find the exact color he wanted you had to sprint to keep up with Eijiro running back to UA
You follow him into the bathroom shared by all the boys of 1A and he puts the box of dye on the counter
Once he starts laying out the materials, you put your gloves on
It’s about to go down people
“(Y/N), you have to section my hair first!” Eijiro swats your gloved hand away from the box of dye.
“Your hair is too short to be sectioned Eijiro,” you roll your eyes and grab for the box of dye again.
“I’ll do it myself then,” he opens the cabinet below and finds a pack of rubber bands.
“What are you going to do with that?” You scoff, and it unintentionally sounds like you’re patronizing him.
“Hey! I’ve dyed my own hair before and it looked pretty manly, so maybe you should follow my lead,” Eijiro smiles, pointy teeth and all.
“I can’t so no when you smile like that,” you laugh and pick up the pack of rubber bands. “Okay Eiji, I’ll section your hiar, but if this backfires on you horrendously, you can’t blame me.”
“It will work!” Eijiro protests. “It’s just like tie-dying a t-shirt except with hair.”
Again, you roll your eyes, and start to section his hair with rubber bands. You thought it would hurt his scalp to have to take his hair out of the rubber bands, but he insisted it would be fine.
You underestimated how much hair Kirishima had, but who could blame you? It looks short!
“Eiji, why do you have so much hair?” You groan, and pick the bag back up. There’s seven rubber bands left, and thankfully, you’re almost done.
“Are you jealous (y/n)?” He whips his head around to look at you, and the rubber bands almost slide off of the tufts of hair that you tied.
“No! Turn back around! Slowly this time okay?” You hold your breath as he turns back around, hoping that you won’t have to redo all the work you put into sectioning his hair. Thanfully, everything stays in place and you let out a pent up sigh.
You were nervous for this next part. You had to bleach his hair so the red would show in his black hair.
“I’ve never done this before,” you nervously said, picking up the brush that you would use to bleach his hair.
“It’s okay, I trust you one hundred percent,” Eijiro smiles widely, and you see it in the mirror.
Once you got the okay from him, you started to bleach his hair. Your hand was shaky, and a disaster was already starting to play out.
“I can feel your hand shaking (y/n),” Eijiro laughs. “Just relax man.”
“Shh! I’m trying to focus!” You go back to bleaching his hair, and honestly, it wasn’t as bad as you thought it was going to be. You let the bleach dry, and the move to the next step. Now you had to use the colored dye. At least you were only dying his hair one color, so if you completely screwed up it wouldn’t be too noticeable. Right?
“Try not to mess this next part up, okay?” Eijiro’s voice snaps you out of your thoughts and he’s handing you the brush with the red dye on it.
You start to run the brush through the sections of hair, and it’s going great. You finish up with the last section of hair, and are very proud of yourself. You didn’t completely ruin your boyfriend’s hair! What a success!
Until it wasn’t a success. Your hand knocked the tub of dye off the counter, and onto your shirt and the floor.
“Eiji! Will this wash out? Oh my gosh!” You were wearing a grey shirt, and it didn’t look too good soaked with red dye that looked suspiciously like blood.
“Uh, I’m not entirely sure,” he laughs. “It’s okay! I’ll get you a new shirt if this one is ruined!”
As if things could get any worse.
Well they did.
Mineta walked into the bathroom, and upon seeing you and Kirishima, he of course thought the worse.
“AHHHHH! KIRISHIMA AND (L/N) HAD A HORRIBLE ACCIDENT WHILE THEY WERE GETTING IT ON!” Mineta screeches, alerting the all of the 1A boys of your situation.
Iida was first, yelling with a chopping hand motion about how 'this type of conduct is unacceptable’ and Mineta was off in his own world living his greatest fantisies about what he just saw.
Next was Sero and Kaminari who ran straight to Kirishima, ignoring you, and yelled, “GET SOME, BUDDY!”
You pushed their immaturity away and your face heated up.
“What’s happening?” Todoroki poked his head into the bathroom and his eyes widened for a second, showing very minimal emotion, then he left, leaving Ojiro and Shoji where he was.
Everything was chaotic, Eijiro was trying to explain the situation to everyone, Mineta was rambling about how your shirt was covered in blood so you should take it off and give it to him, and Sero and Kaminari were bouncing off the walls.
“SHUT UP GUYS!” You screamed over everyone.
All their heads turned to look at you, and the chaos stopped.
“I was dying his hair! I didn’t kill anyone and this isn’t blood, it’s red hair dye,” you laughed sheepishly, and continued. “It would be nice if you guys would just get out so I can finish.”
“Thank you (y/n),” Eijiro sighed. “You guys are way too quick to assume things, not very manly.”
Everyone grumbled some lame excuse about why they were there, and then they were all gone.
“That was insane,” you sighed and went back to Eijiro’s hair, wrapping it up and leaving it to dry. You both go downstairs and he smiles at you.
“What? Is there something on my face?” You ask.
He looks you in the eyes and says,“No, it’s just that you’re the best significant other that I could ever have.” The tips of his ears are red,
“Aww you’re so sweet! You’re great too Eiji!” You kiss him on the cheek and his face goes as red as his newly re-done hair. “Now lets get some food, I’m starving.”
“I’m down!” He talks about a new noodle place that he wanted to try, until you hear a voice. A loud voice.
“WHY IS THE SINK STAINED RED? EVERYONE KNOWS THIS IS MY SINK! WEIRD HAIR? WHERE ARE YOU? I’LL KILL YOU!”
The only person who wasn’t there during the bathroom chaos has now entered the bathroom.
You and Eijiro look at each other and simultaneously say, “Bakugo.”
Uh-oh.

Re-whitening yellowed fabrics
random laundry tip!
so this is something i never learned growing up and i don’t know why. it’s not like we didn’t have this problem, we just never had a good solution to it we just kept trying different detergents that never followed through on the “brightening” they promised (and bleach just makes this worse).
so you got dingy whites? things that never look entirely clean anymore or, like me, a white bedspread now beginning to yellow because of body oils that won’t go away no matter how well you wash it?
bluing
it’s a very gentle, non-toxic, bio-degradable dye that you soak your fabric in and the blue in the dye will cancel out the yellowing in the fabric and turn it back into a crisp bright white. it’s fantastic.
the bottle says you can just add it to the washer, and that may be true if you’re doing this pre-emptively to keep them from yellowing in the first place, but if your fabric is already visibly yellowed i found that it wasn’t enough. you’re gonna want to wash it to get any of the oils out, then still follow the directions for diluting, but soak your fabric in it for at least a few hours before putting it in the wash. i did that, agitating it every hour or so for about 5 hours to make sure there wasn’t uneven exposure, and there was like a notable different in my bedspread. i’m pretty sure that another couple hours of soaking the next time i wash it will be enough to get it back to its original white (or at least to a uniform off-white instead of a patch of obvious yellowing on the area by my face and arms) and i’m pretty pumped about that.
so i just thought i’d share this with y’all in case you also didn’t learn about this at home

She hummed happily as she dug through her purse and fished out the spare key to your place. Letting herself in, she grinned as your music sounded down the hall. Making her way into your room, she grinned. You were wearing an oversized kuromi shirt that she had given you and some comfy sweats. You were swinging your legs to the rock music blasting through your speakers, face hidden behind a book.
“Oh (y/n)! You’re just so cute!” She squeals, dropping her bag and throw herself onto your lap. You chuckled softly, putting the book down and pulling her into a sweet kiss. “Are you ready?” She asked mischievously, grin growing wider as you nodded.
So there you were a couple minutes later, sat in your desk chair as she applied the final layer of bleach to your hair and covering it with a plastic shower cap. She turned the music back up and started to dance around, grabbing your hand and pulling you up from the chair. Reluctantly, you had begun to dance around with her, letting the silliness consume the both of you as you waited. After rinsing and toning, she finally helped you apply the color to your hair. She had refused to tell you what color she had picked out but you trusted her to pick out some you had liked.
She straddled your lap, placed the shower cap back on your head and placed a kiss on the tip of your nose. You had spent the time waiting for the dye to set with her cuddled in your arms. It was one of the few times where she wasn’t as bubbly while she spoke. Her voice soft as she talked about her day with you.
Once the time was up, she had left left you to rinse it out while she pulled out the dress from her bag and started getting ready for your guys’ date. You had quite liked the color she picked for you, it was one you had never tried out before. Admiring the shine as you blow dried it. You had stepped out of the bathroom, dressed and ready when you froze in place. Watching as she twirled side to side in a dress you hadn’t seen before. It was a black and red loli dress. The black lace trim added a nice little touch.
“Stunning.” You whispered, approaching her and wrapping your arms around her waist and pressing a kiss to her lips. “Absolutely stunning.”
She giggled, running her hands through your freshly dyed hair and checking out your outfit, humming in appreciation. “Now let’s go! We’ll be the most attractive couple in Aoyama.”
Boy was she right.
I also match you with...
hitoshi shinso
❃ the both of you are very similar in the fact that you’re both very reserved people and tend to observe others
❃ it would definitely be a little difficult to get close to him since he’s always a little on guard
❃ but he definitely doesn’t really mind if someone is taking the time to get to know him
❃ so when the two of you do start to get to know each other, you’ll get to see him goof around and just tell lame jokes
❃ if you tease him, don’t expect him to back down
❃ once the both of you finally get to hanging out outside of school or going on dates, you’ll see each other in clothes that aren’t your school uniform
❃ he 100% digs your goth/emo style
❃ I am a firm believer that he also has some sort of the same style, or aspires to have that same style
❃ dates are always very chill
❃ he won’t ever help you re-dye your hair because he doesn’t want to mess it up but will keep you company while you do
❃ please please please dye your hair the same color as his
❃ he’d get all blushy and flustered
❃ enjoys watching you do artsy things
❃ praises anything that you do tbh even if it’s abstract and he doesn’t really get it, he still praises you for how talented you are
❃ if you both are together for long enough and start talking about the future, he doesn’t mind that you don’t want kids
❃ he would be a-okay with just being with you and maybe getting a pet to keep the two of you company

It was 2am when you had gotten a text from Toshi to go to the rooftop. You hadn’t really thought much of it as you made your way up the staircase. Your suspicions were confirmed when you saw him laid back on a blanket, head tilted upwards as he gazed up at the night sky. He had a few snacks next to him and you could hear some soft music coming from his phone.
“What’re you doing out here Toshi?” You asked softly as you approached, not wanting to scare him.
“Hmm I couldn’t really sleep.” Nodding, you took a seat next to him.
This wasn’t unusual, sometimes he’d just head over to your room or he’d come up here. He wrapped an arm around you, pulling you into his chest. His heartbeat was calming as you looked up at the twinkling night sky. Look it down at you, he saw your eyes drooping as a stifled yawn left your lips.
“Sorry if I woke you up.” You smiled when he placed a kiss on your forehead.
“S’okay Toshi, I don’t mind...” Your voice was a little slurred, his heart beating a little faster as you snuggled into his chest. “How was your day?” You asked quietly.
As he answered your question, talking about the extra training that he was doing, he ran his fingers through your hair and carefully seperating any knots he had come across. His deep voice and soft touch was starting to lull you into sleep. You fought hard to stop your eyes from dropping closed but it was no use. Sleep had finally taken over.
He had noticed your lack of response and chuckled. The soft sounds of your snores filling his heart with warmth.
“Sleep well my love.” He placed one final kiss to your head and and looked back up at the stars before finally being pulled into a deep sleep. It definitely wasn’t the first time the both of you had fallen asleep up there.
Seeing how you looked in the morning sunlight was probably his favorite thing to wake up to. It always made him unusually affectionate, meaning that you usually woke up to him pressing kisses all over your face. His favorite place was your eyelids because it never failed to rouse a sleepy giggle from your lips as you bid him a good morning.

Okay prepare for Long Ask I'm gonna tell you hair dye instructions/tips??? I keep my hair dyed at almost all times so I've got some knowlegg
Step 1: you're gonna have to bleach your hair. I've got light brown/borderline blond hair naturally and I needed to bleach to be able to dye my hair. You can do this at home, it's much cheaper than salon, but pay close attention to instructions because it is after all bleach.
1a before you bleach you should do a hair test. Most home bleaches you have to use all at once though, so maybe see if someone else is bleaching and ask to have a little pinch of it? Basically just put it on a tiny bit of hair and see how it reacts after the recommended time. Some people's hair cannot be bleached without breaking, and itll give you a good idea of how long your hair needs to be in the bleach to get pale.
1b your bleached hair will look yellow most likely. This is normal, not something to worry about. I'll say more on it a bit below (sorry for the length of this aha)
2, it's luckily much easier to dye a full head of hair than partial! And if you were to get it done professionally youd notice its usually cheaper too. Thats because it's just easier to dump it all on and do everything. You might miss a spot, esp your first try, but if you have a way to check the back of your head you should be alright.
For this I'd honestly recommend temporary/washout dye, it last for quite a while but gradually fades as you wash it. Once your roots start growing back they will be your natural colour, but that is honestly a good look imo. Temporary dye is also much better for your hair, especially if you bleach it. You can re-dye it once it fades, or not, as you choose. It should last several weeks. Permanent dye iirc doesnt have the fading effect, but your roots will still grow back in, so in my onion temporary is just. Generally better.
Also: if you get your hair permanently dyed, give it a day or two after bleaching before you dye it. If you use temporary dye, you can do it on the same day if you want. Its bc temporary is much easier on your hair in general. You can still wait if you prefer to though.
2a for a test of dye, put a small amount on a little back of skin to make sure you don't react to it. You can also do a stand test like with the bleach where you dye just a small bit to see if you like the end result or not, but it's not really necessary. Just as an extra precaution if you want to.
2b it is super easy to dye at home, and I'd honestly recommend it over getting a salon job. They just tend to be overpriced. It's up to you though of course if you prefer someone else doing it for any reason, I just only have experience doing it at home after I saw salon prices.
2c also, dyes should all come with instructions, and again, you just follow those and you're golden. (Or silver in this case haha sorry) the only thing I'll say is the time to leave it in on temporary dues is usually really short. If you're using temporary dye, at the end of the time it tells you I'd just wash off one small bit of the dye and see if you like the colour yet. If not, use the surrounding dye to cover that spot again and leave it in for longer. Basically the longer you leave it the better the colour will come out.
3. Once you've washed your hair off, you're basically done! Depending on how light your hair could get and what colour dye you went for, you should have a good string colour that'll last quite a while.
Some additional tips:
If you have problems with your hair looking yellowish, most places you can buy shampoo should have some kind of anti-yellowing shampoo which is basically for people who bleach their hair. It makes you hair a little more grey in colour, which might be good for you.
The kind of bleach you use will determine how light your hair can get. They should have a number on the box, some have for example "9 levels of lift" and some have "20 volume" and I dont know if those two things are on the same scale but the higher the number, the stronger the lightening effect. If you go to a salon, you can ask about how strong their bleach is, they should have a good idea of what to use (but remember I dont go to such places so I'm not 100%). For reference my usual bleach is a 9 lift schwarzkopf, and that gets me from light brown to white-blond really well.
If you bleach and/or dye your hair at home, do it in a room with lots of ventilation. The dye is less bad, but for the bleach, absolutely.
The colours of dye that'll show up depends on the darkness of your hair. If you tried to dye it without bleaching, you could basically only go black from there. Maybe dark blue, depending on how dark your hair is now. If you bleach it and it doesnt come out completely blond, it's okay! You might have to go for a darker grey than you originally wanted, though. If you want a light silver-grey you'll probably need to get your hair bleached to completely white-blond level which I really wouldn't recommend for your first try. Better to get a handle on it first and make sure you hair can deal with it.
Your hair if bleached will probably feel a little crusty and not very soft. That's normal. A good conditioner should clear that up pretty quick. If you don't usually use conditioner, just look for something cheap, trust me it's worth it.
So. Sorry again for the word wall but I hope that the information here is helpful! I just wanted to get it all into one thing. If you have questions feel free to message me and I'll tell you everything I know
Good luck with your hair!
Thank you so much this is super informative!!! Honestly the reason I’m hesitant to do dye myself is just bc I have very little experience with caring for my own hair, I’ve barely learned how to manage a hair dryer, but this definitely makes that option a whole lot less intimidating. And please don’t worry about the word wall, it’s all very good info and exactly what I needed!

I'm more poor than an Ethiopian lemonade stand and I was wondering if you could spare some Harper x Kirishima headcannons so I could have something of value. (If it isn't a bother, you don't have to. Hope you're doing well, have a nice evening.)
Harper X Kirishima Headcanons for the poor and needy
Here's a link to the story on my Wattpad
Kirishima's thoughts don't bother Harper in the least. He can compliment her up and down in his head and she won't bat an eye. But the moment he says something out loud, her cheeks are red, her fields are plowed, and her crops, watered.
Harper is fairly rational and blunt, as we all know. She's a "no-nonsense" type of fellow. Well, to put it simply and logically, she views Kirishima had perfect husband material. Even before she gained any real romantic feelings for him, it was just obvious. She looked at him and was like "Yeah, he'd make a good spouse."
Kirishima loves music, and has a "Harper Playlist" full if songs that remind her of him. He was embarrassed when she found out. Harper was surprised to find little to no depressing songs, most being upbeat and light. Oddly enough, they fit.
Kirishima asked his mothers for advice, but they're clueless lesbians who met each other on a whim and got married because it "seemed legit", so he ends up asking Mr. Aizawa, the active male role model in his life. Aizawa runs a blog, so naturally suggests Kirishima start one of his own to try and get advice. Surprisingly, he does.
Harper does better focusing on a single person's thoughts to help block out everyone else's. It's why she sleeps better when cuddling with Kirishima. His thoughts aren't horribly loud, not horribly quiet, and are generally low-key unless he's having some sort of Fanboying Moment™. Her head is on his shoulder, and then she's out like a light.
Kirishima likes to carry/hold her, whether it be in his arms, on his back, his shoulders, wherever. He just likes to have her off he ground somehow for whatever reason.
Kurogiri adores Kirishima with a burning passion, which works seeing as he follows Harper like a lost puppy. Because Harper doesn't like going out, he often times makes them home-made food and will put on a movie. He likes having a "job."
Harper's parents are social butterflies who get along with everyone. One day, they meet Kirishima's parents. Instant. Hatred. The two teenagers literally don't give a shit though, so it's fine.
Harper vents to Kirishima about the bullshit she hears almost constantly. Aizawa's thinking about flowers? Kirishima knows. Momo being gay? Kirishima had been informed. Aoyama is thinking about baguettes? He's clued in. She stays surprisingly connected with him, and he loves it.
Kirishima's parents adore Harper with every fiber of their beings. Kirishima tries to bring her over, but she gets swept away by his parents almost immediately.
Harper isn't the jealous type, but anytime Mineta is thinking something sexual about Kirishima, she makes it a point to get him to stop. Even if that means siccing Aizawa on him.
Kirishima enjoys bringing Harper food, blankets, fuzzy socks: just stuff like that. Maybe he'll bring one of his hoodies for her one day, and some donuts another. He's not the kmnd reader out of the two of them, but sometimes Harper feels like he is.
Kirishima carried Advil around for her because she forgets.
Harper has a surprising talent for dyeing hair. When Kirishima's black roots start to grow in, she proves to be pretty damn good at perfectly re-bleaching the roots and coloring them red. She does the same thing for Dabi when she sees how spotty he gets.
Kirishima wouldn't say he boasts about Harper, but you ask anyone in the bakusquad, and she's literally all he talks about.
Harper really loves the ocean, because the waves really help drown out thoughts. Kirishima was excited to find out she liked it, and wants desperately to teach her how to surf, but doesn't know how to bring it up.
Harper unconsciously starts asking Kirishima's opinion before ever making decisions. Everyone who notices (Aizawa, namely) finds it extremely cute and never fail to tease her about it.
Kirishima is almost always with Harper. Anytime he can find time to be around her, he is. Harper actually doesn't mind. With anyone else, she'd be over them in about ten minutes, but there's something about Kirishima that's extremely easy to stand.
When they first started dating, Aizawa had a Fanboying session in front of Kirishima, leaving him mind-blown and unable to ever see Aizawa the same again. Harper and Kirishima develop a game between the two of them where they try to get Aizawa to break face in class, talking about cats, referencing his blog, and even going so far as to call him dad.
Harper really didn't want to let anyone know they were dating, just to avoid getting asked trillions of questions, but keeping it a secret was causing Kirishima to get extremely jealous anytime she interacted with another male despite normally not being the jealous type. Eventually she said fuck all and just told.
Kirishima is extremely insecure, and Harper is very aware of that. She makes an active and constant effort to accommodate it to the best of her ability and make him feel better. He notices and loves her all the more for it.
Kirishima's phone is always on at all hours in case she sends him a text.
When Kirishima first started his blog in search of relationship advice, he accidentally ran across Aizawa's. Not knowing it was his, Kirishima ended up getting a lot of good tips from it.

Ember’s Story Chapter One: Surprises
“Ember!” Everett yells up the stairs, “Stop being a hermit and get you non-binary butt down here! We’re going to be late!”
This boy will be the death of me. He has no patience. We’re more than twenty minutes early, but does that stop him from worrying? Of course not!
“I’m coming!” I yell back impatiently, “Stop worrying! I’ll be down in a minute!”
Technically, we don’t have to go to school today. It’s finals week, and neither of us have an exam today. We’re both just nerds who want the excuse to spend more time in the library. Even if that does require a completely fire-proof room, special gloves, multiple fire extinguishers, and constant check-ins from the librarian.
The reason for the precautions has to do with my name. Or, rather, how names work. When we’re born, the first thing the parent who gave birth to you says is your first name while the first thing your other parent says is your middle name. It makes no sense, but somehow it works. I’ve asked multiple parents, and, according to them, they get this intense urge to say a specific word or something like that. As I said, it makes no sense.
However, one’s name holds immense power over their fate, or, in my case, doom. Most children, like my brother and sister, get names that mean something along the lines of love or hope. I was not so lucky. My full name is Ember Spark Hawthorn. I’m not so sure what the combination of fire and a type of tree means, but I’m almost positive it won’t end well.
Because my name quite literally means fire, there have been certain precautions put into place because of me. I’m not allowed in vehicles that run on gasoline or diesel, I can’t go outside during droughts, every table and chair I’ve ever sat in has been made of metal or plastic, and all my clothes are fire-proof. That’s only the short list.
“Hurry up!” Everett yells, “I have a surprise for you!”
This intrigues me. His surprises are few and far between, but they’re always awesome. I start heading downstairs when I realize I forgot my shoes. After putting on my shoes, I check myself in the mirror. I’m wearing my favorite Harley-Davidson t-shirt over a black-and-white-striped long-sleeved shirt, a pair of ripped black jeans, and my favorite black, vegan leather combat boots. Between the mostly black outfit and my unhealthy level of paleness, my bright red hair stands out even more than usual. I need to re-dye it. The color is starting to fade, and my roots are staring to grow back out.
I run downstairs and am greeted by Everett smiling mischievously. At 6’3”, he stands at 4 inches taller than me. He’s wearing a short sleeved, brightly colored graphic tee, a pair of paint-splattered denim jeans that he usually only wears during prop construction for theatre, and his normal grey sneakers. His outfit suggests we have rehearsal after school today, but I know it’s most likely he hasn’t done laundry this week. Judging by the faint purple in his dark, curly hair, he tried, and failed, to dye his hair again last night without bleaching it first. He catches me looking and gives me a look that says, “Don’t say whatever it is you’re thinking.”
“So, wannabe grape head, what’s the surprise?” I ask him, smirking.
“Don’t mention the hair, or I’ll take away the surprise,” he says with complete seriousness.
“Right. Sorry. So, what’s the surprise?”
“Follow me, Freckles.”
“Didn’t I tell you to stop calling me that?”
“’Wannabe grape head’”
“Fair enough. Anyways. Surprise!”
He tells me to close my eyes and attempts to lead me through the hall and out the door. We quickly abandon this plan after I near knock over a lamp after bumping into the small glass table that my parents decided to put into the narrowest hallway in the house. Once we reach the front door at the end of the insanely narrow, overly clean hallway, Everett has me close my eyes and leads me out the door. I hear it close behind me, and, after a few steps, Everett has me open my eyes.
“You idiot. You absolute idiot,” I say, “Why?”
He’s parked his old, oil-leaking, gasoline-running, not-at-all-fire-proof car in my driveway.
“Well,” he says, “I didn’t want to walk today, and I figured that a five-minute car ride won’t be too dangerous.”
“Your car leaks oil, runs on 20 gallons of pure gasoline, and has a gas can in the trunk!” I reply, “So much could go wrong. We could explode!”
He doesn’t reply and just gets in. After a minute, I sigh and get in with him. This is the first time I’ve ever been in a car, and I’m amazed. I didn’t know what to expect, but it sure wasn’t this. The seats are covered in a black, mesh-y fabric, the radio is touchscreen, the dashboard is dusty, and the check engine light is on. I knew this was a bad idea.
“Everett,” I say, “please tell me the check engine light doesn’t actually mean anything.”
“Well,” he says nervously, “technically nothing’s wrong. I probably just need to change the oil.”
“We’re going to die.”
“No, we won’t.”
As soon as the words leave his mouth, smoke starts to rise from the hood.
“Yeah. I knew this was a bad idea. Get out,” I tell him while opening the door.
I move away from the car as quickly as possible while Everett goes to check under the hood. He says nothing’s wrong, but I’m not sure how much I believe him. We decide to walk like usual. At least I know the Council of Elders wasn’t just paranoid about the whole car thing. The Council of Elders is a group of the wisest members of society who make very important decisions mainly regarding the name fate/doom thing. All I really know is they’re the ones who tried, and failed miserably, to keep me out of libraries and bookstores.
“I’m sorry,” Everett says, “I really thought that would work.”
I tell him not to worry, and we change the subject. Unfortunately for me, Everett wants to talk about me and Nox. Nox is the person I’ve had a crush on for the better part of the last 8 years.
“Listen,” I say, “there’s nothing to talk about.”
“Bs,” he retorts, “I see the way you look at them.”
“Shut-,” I start to say, but I’m interrupted by Nox walking toward us.
“Hey,” they say
“Hey,” I reply awkwardly while failing miserably to not blush.
We stand there awkwardly smiling until:
“Hey Everett! How are you? Oh, I’m great! I’m just being ignored by my best friend and their crush!”
I swear I will kill this boy one day.
“Oh, um, hey, Everett,” Nox says, still looking at me.
“So,” I say, “Do you want to walk with us?”
“Sure,” they say, stuttering slightly.
I can’t help but smile at their shyness.
“Do you guys have exams today?” Nox asks.
“No,” Everett answers, “Ember just wants to hang out in the library like a nerd.”
“You’re allowed in the library?” Nox asks.
“Kind of,” I answer, “I have to stay in a fireproof room with gloves, fire extinguishers, and near-constant supervision.”
“Oh,” they say, “Well, I don’t have anything to do today either.”
I recognize what they’re doing. Like me, they’re too shy to directly ask to join others.
“You should join me,” I say, then quickly add, “so Everett can hangout with his friends,” because they won’t say yes unless I do.
“Are you sure?” they ask.
“Totally!” I say with probably too much enthusiasm.
Nox smiles and nods their head. We walk the rest of the way in a comfortable silence that is only broken by some idiot on the football team yelling:
“Hey, freaks! I didn’t know they let mistakes like you in on days you don’t have to be here! Why don’t you all do us a favor and let the goth freak bring you too close to a ledge! Or, better yet, let fire head bring you into a forest!”
I know he’s just trying to get a ride out of us, but Nox is visibly upset, and I’m not about to let that pass.
“Hey, jackass!” I yell back, “Why don’t you go get your tenth concussion of the season? Maybe that’ll knock your brain cells together long enough for you to pass a class!”
The look on his face tells me he doesn’t know what I just said.
“It means get lost, dumbass!” Everett yells.
Except Everett’s voice is much deeper than that. I turn to see him staring at Nox in open-mouthed, jaw-dropped awe. I look at Nox, and I’m surprised to see them. Their fists are clenched, their jaw is set, their face is red, and their eyes have this look in them. It’s a look I know all too well from days where people just won’t stop being jerks to either of us. It’s like they have Hell and death in their eyes. It’s kind of hot.

I'm still a 100% sure that bullying was the reason why stopped Michael dying his hair. Around 2015-16 everyone would make fun of him and call him bald. Then he dyed it pink for the first time in YEARS and fans keep annoying him to go red again (which he looked great in it, but it's NOT the point) and then he just stopped. During the latest streams he seemed uncomfty whenever they commented on his hair and it's just sad. I wish he could feel happy over his appearance again. He deserves it.
I feel like at this point 5sos is just super jaded? They've been doing this for close to a decade, and I think the constant pressure to please people is weighing on them. Idk that the pink thing was his idea because he was matching with Crystal, but I do agree people need to learn to just chill. Just relax and let them be themselves, and if we don’t like it then we move on. We can’t force them into these little boxes of who we want or expect them to be.
I do think that Crystal kind of made it her thing to have coloured hair as well, and eventually Michael stopped dyeing his hair. I think the fans' comments could have something to do with it, but constant bleaching is hard on your hair, and we know it’s definitely something he’s insecure about because he has told us as much. The way I did my hair was instead of rebleaching it every time, I let my natural colour grow out and only redyed the parts that had already been bleached, and lots of conditioning treatments. Now I have a lot longer hair than Michael, so it is a different process.
That being said, it’s a lot of upkeep, especially if you’re re-bleaching it. He likely completely fried his hair and wanted to take some time to get it back to a semi-healthy state before colouring it again. And as for letting the pink fade and not doing a new colour, he could just be giving his hair time to recover before he chooses to colour it again, or not. To add to all of that there are certain colours that are harder to remove from hair such as reds and blues, so that could explain why he chose a more pastel colour, also, I think, to match crystal but whatever.

Xion Appreciation Week - Day 6
I’m writing a fic a day for #XionAppreciationWeek, in honor of my favorite and the best Kingdom Hearts character! :’)
I’ll be posting them both here and on AO3. You can find the AO3 fic here, titled “Affection”.
The rest, I’ll put links up as I post new chapters!
Day 1: Remembrance Day 2: Return Day 3: Separation/Reunion Day 4: Light/Darkness Day 5: Ice Cream/Seashell >Day 6: New Beginnings Day 7: No. XIV (Free Day)
“You’re sure about this?” Roxas frowned, making sure the rubber gloves were snug over his hands.
“Yes, I’m sure,” Xion nodded.
“No, but like, REALLY sure?”
“Roxas,” she laughed. “I’m REALLY sure.” He paused, then sighed deeply, starting to apply coconut oil to her hair.
“Alright… Just, if you do this, that’s… a LOT of bleaching. It’s kinda hard to come back from that, as far as the health of your hair goes-”
“Sound like an expert on this,” Axel grinned as he mixed the bleach, setting out the toner and shaking the dye. “I thought I was supposed to be the one taking point on this.”
“I-I mean, I… you know, I read the bottles-”
“The bottle talks about hair health?” Xion smiled, eyes closed as his fingers ran through her hair.
“H-hey! Don’t you both gang up on me!”
“Your hair always WAS a bit too blond,” Axel laughed and Xion chuckled to herself.
“C’mon, guys!”
“Alright, Axel, stop teasing him,” Xion smiled and he sighed.
“Oh alright. But only if you consider my argument.”
“Oh come on,” Roxas grumbled and Xion snorted.
“Axel, I’m not gonna go as red as yours.”
“But it looks so GOOD! Doesn’t it?”
“On you maybe,” Roxas laughed. “If Xion tried to pull that off…” She opened her mouth to retort, but sighed, nodding. “So, just blond, then?”
“Um, actually… I went out and bought the color I wanted while you two were on your way over.”
“Wait, you did?” Axel gaped. “Well then what the hell did I bring my dye over for?”
“I didn’t ask you to,” she replied, sticking her tongue out at him. “But, yeah, it’s under the sink, in a plastic bag.” She heard Axel rustle down below.
“Oh! Hey, that may actually look pretty good on you!” She grinned, and felt Roxas’s fingers pause as he looked over as well.
“Oh wow, that’s a REALLY pretty shade of purple.”
“See?” she smiled. “I know what I’m doing.”
“Well I am terribly sorry for mistrusting you, then,” Axel chuckled. She opened one eye to see him holding the purple next to her head, squinting. “Yeah. Yeah, that’s gonna be perfect!” She laughed and Roxas finally finished, taking a step back and looking her over.
“It’s gonna take a while for the bleach to set in,” he warned. “You gonna be okay?”
“I think so,” she smiled. “I’m excited!”
“Should be!” Axel smiled, ruffling her hair and she huffed.
“Alright, we’ll do the bleach and then it’ll be like… half an hour before we can rinse that and do the dye. Thankfully you don’t have a whole lot of hair to dye so it won’t take too long.” She frowned at that as he started to apply the bleach. She DIDN’T have a lot of hair. Kairi could pull of the short haired look, sure. Aqua and Naminé had hair that was a bit longer, down past their necks. She wondered if she’d look good like that. She’d have to re-dye it, obviously, if she wanted to keep it purple, but she’d maybe like longer hair. It was bizarre to realize she had so much agency over her appearance. For a year it was just black cloaks, her hair not growing due to the bad replica body.
“And done,” Roxas smiled, pulling her hair up and settling it under a shower cap. “And now we wait!”
“A whole half hour, huh?” she chuckled. “What do we do until then?”
“Let’s talk about boys,” Axel joked and she laughed.
“What, like Saïx?” she teased and he went as red as his hair.
“H-hey! Low blow!” She and Roxas laughed as he sighed.
“Do you guys ever… want to change your name?” Xion asked after a moment.
“What do you mean?” Roxas asked.
“Um, like… well your name is just Sora, with an X. Mine is No. i, with an X. It just… kind of reminds me that I was… you know, not human, at one point? I dunno.”
“Do you want to change your name?” Axel asked.
“I dunno! I mean…” She frowned. “I don’t HATE Xion. It’s kind of pretty. It’s like the flower, shion, and it’s this really gorgeous purple flower-”
“Oh, THAT’S why you picked purple,” Axel laughed and she blushed.
“It… it’s part of it, yeah,” she admitted. “But, um… in flower language it means ‘I won’t forget you’.” The other two were silent for a moment. “But it’s a pretty flower, and I really like it. It also has another name? It’s the ‘tatarian aster’, or just aster, usually. I kind of… thought that was pretty.”
“Aster?” Roxas asked and she nodded.
“It does kind of have a ring to it,” Axel nodded slowly. “Weird to have two A names between us, though.”
“Yeah, Aster and Asshole,” Roxas snorted and Axel kicked him, the boy yelping in surprise.
“But you’re Lea,” she smiled. “You have a Somebody name. Your Nobody name was just your own, with the X. Roxas and I didn’t have names before this.”
“I guess that’s fair,” he frowned, rubbing his chin. “What about you, Rox? What would your Somebody name be?”
“Uhh…” He frowned, crossing his arms and tapping his foot. “I dunno. I don’t really have anything. Roxas just always sort of… suited me, I guess.”
“Oh,” she frowned.
“But that doesn’t mean YOU can’t change your name,” Axel pointed out. “Just cuz Roxas over here is a wet blanket.”
“I’m not-!” She chuckled and smiled.
“I guess that’s fair. I don’t really… know yet. So you can keep calling me Xion until I figure it out. I just sort of… I want something new, you know? Something that’s… just me. No names from someone else, no purposes built by someone else. Just me.”
“Hence the hair,” Axel smiled and she nodded. “I get that. You’re entitled to your own sense of individuality, you know?”
“You don’t know what all those words mean,” Roxas laughed and Axel rolled his eyes.
“Thank you both, for helping me with this,” she smiled. “It means a lot.”
“‘Course, Xion,” Axel smiled and she sighed, resting back against the mirror, closing her eyes. Her hair, her friends, her name. Something that was just hers.
