#like the sheer contrivation of their fanfic-esque phobia predicament of the first ladder fall is pretty wild

I find it kind of neat that Michael Crew was chased by the (presumably bespoke) spiral monster of a Lichtenberg figure for literally at least around a decade, a thing that was basically just waiting for him to give in and die of his (very specific) fear/do something stupid to get away from it. Like. That's persistence hunting! This monster was just wearing him down and waiting for him to feed it as it went along! And then the only statement we get about Mike Crew The Avatar feeding is one where he...first finds a man with a severe phobia. A very specific one, too...it's not just heights, it's ladders. And he then chases this man to a wholly other country, to create the perfect nightmare scenario based on his very bespoke fear. Mike Crew didn't just get consumed by the Vast, as Jon muses on after the statements about The Guy Getting Harassed By Lightning turns into The Guy Who Threw Someone Off A Skyscraper. Mike Crew also became what had tormented him, in a hugely specific way. He kills the same way the Lichtenberg figure tried to kill him.
