As much as I love Oblivion, one of the things that has always bugged me about it is the very lacklustre worldbuilding, especially concerning the west-east/Colovia-Nibenay divide in Cyrodiil as stipulated in lore. There is so much lost potential when you really get into it, and when you compare it to what's in game the latter just falls really flat. Not to mention that Cyrodiil and Imperials as a whole are supossed to be inspired by ancient Rome but what we find in game is just generic north western European inspired medieval fantasy.

#basically in my mind colovia is more western mediterranean inspired whereas the nibenay is more eastern med and far eats thoe deal #i know eso tried to solve this but i havent played it so idk #the elder scrolls #tes #oblivion #the worst part about in game oblivion for me are the cookie cutter temples #i hate that they all look the same and that theyre gothic architecture when cyrodiil should be greco-roman inspired #one of the things that also bugs me is that colovia but especially the gold coast area ie kvatch and anvil should be reminiscent of places #like the western med coast ie where i hail from #so seeing something that is actually inspired by a place im familar with would have been so cool #also would have been nice to have a more developed rural area #maybe the devs were in an extreme time crunch idk
