All’s Well That Ends Well directed by Ina Habermann and Christine Lehnen for the BUSC © Sabrina Wollmann
This monthly post of mine is dedicated to a different form of story-telling than novels; that is because another project of mine has finally been completed: I have put William Shakespeare’ s All's Well That Ends Well on stage for the BUSC, a wonderful theatre company in Bonn. The premiere took place this Saturday, July 8th, and we are on every other day until the derniere on July 15th. We are also, and I am so so thrilled, sold out every one of those night, which is very rare for a Shakespeare play that is one of the lesser well known, and rarely performed. Which is a shame: After Ina Habermann and I edited and adapted the First Folio text, All’s Well has become a very timely play, modern in every way that matters. It is a text which you can read so many ways: queer, feminist, individualist, duty vs. desire, family vs. freedom, love and all that you are willing to sacrifice for it, and all that you are not. As well as, perhaps the most pertinent question: How far would you go for your happy ending?
Doing theatre is in many ways incredibly similar to writing a novel, but it is different in one particularly important way: it is an collaborative process. When you write a novel, unless you have partnered up with a co-author, it is just you and the manuscript for a very, very long time until your agent and editors join you in the quest for the best possible story. With the theatre, even if you are the director, from day one you are surrounded by actors, production managers, stage managers, musicians, the costume and stage departments, voice and movement coaches, all of whom bring their incredible talent to the story. Most of the times, their ideas are better than yours. With this production of All’s Well That Ends Well, I was incredibly fortunate that everyone involved understood very quickly the central idea for the mis-en-scène that Ina and I had in mind, and we all worked together on making it the best it could be. It is very much like making a film or like I imagine it is making a video game. I have enjoyed it immensely. On the other hand, being a director comes with great responsibility: At the end of the day, you call all the shots. You must have an opinion on everything, instantly, usually without having even a moment to think. Luckily, I am an opinionated gal. Still, I cannot wait to get back to work and start writing Book III of TOUCH THAT FIRE. I still have not seen a cover for the first book, but it should not be long now, and I am very excited. I cannot wait for the entire marketing process to start! It is so interesting to watch it happen from the inside.

Aussie webseries “Back to Goode” weaves a tale of tangled love and relationships
Have you ever just wanted to pack your bags and start all over in a new town? Maybe somewhere laid back, where you can actually see the stars? That’s what happens in the new five part series, Back to Goode, where two queer couples leave the big city to live the simpler life, but unbeknownst to them, things are about to get quite complicated. Alex (Cat Kasey) and Zoey (Georgina Jones) are both stylists, who have been together for five years, and still quite crazy about each other. They leave their lives in Melbourne behind to open up their own shop, and end up in the small town where they attended a yearly music festival. They are trying to navigate an open relationship, although Zoey wants a serious commitment on Alex’s part and is debating where they go from there. Also together for five years are Ellie (Suzanne McKee) and Vanessa (Jeni Bezuidenhout), who move to Goode to pursue academic careers. They are also trying to get back to where they were before Vanessa slept with an artist named Reagan (Catherine Morvell). Things are getting complicated, right? Just wait! Ellie’s ex George (Karina Sorelli) shows up in Goode, as does Reagan. Back to Goode is written and directed by Lisa Habermann, and the creative crew is made up almost entirely of women  including Director of Photography and the producers. Check it out.   Back to Goode premieres this Friday, September 8th.   You can follow them here: Facebook: @backtogoodewebseries Instagram: @backtogoode Twitter: @backtogoode http://dlvr.it/Pl9hK5
