Uswnt Olympic roster
I’ve seen a lot of persons speculating about the Olympic roster who will or won’t make it. I heard Aly Wagner commenting in one of the recent games that this is the perfect time to try out new young players. And I was thinking wtf is she talking about. You can’t just do a complete overhaul On The team that got you the World Cup in less than 6 months. That was done in 2016 when some of the vets retired after winning the World Cup in 2015. New persons were added to the roster mostly because Jill didn’t have a choice and it clearly affected the outcome seeing as how the team didn’t make it past the quarter finals.
The new coach would need to consider the timeline he or she has before the olympics, the roster he currently has and how adding new persons could affect the chemistry of the team and the ability to provide good results, the next nwsl season.
In my opinion I think the same team should be brought to the olympics less:
McDonlad(I am assuming one forward would be cut, and if we are being honest McDonald is the least impactful and does better in league play anyways)
Brian and/or Long(Brian is jus starting to somewhat get back to a good form and thou we love Allie and her status as Social Media coordinator it’s hard to chose both these persons over the likes of a Horan, Lavelle, Ertz and Mewis)
Krashlyn(no offense here. I love these ladies but let’s be fair. Ash didn’t play a second in the World Cup and Kriegs played like one full game and a sub here and there.)
Or
AD and Sonnett( neither of who played a second.) these ladies are great but they didn’t get a chance to shine.
Davidson( nice little rookie on the team but her inexperience is quite evident and a lot of unforced errors.)
If I were picking the roster:
GK- Naeher and Harris/Franch(I honestly cant pick between the two but definitely one)
DF- O’Hara(if 85-100 recovered. Kelly is a brick wall so even at less than a 100 we can expect great results), Dahlkemper, Sauerbrunn(best defender we have honestly) Dunn, Krieger/ Sonnett/Davidson(2 from the 3)
MF- Horan, Lavelle, Ertz, Mewis, (a spot newbie per se, for someone who has played with the girls before and who we know will shine given the opportunity).
FW- Heath, Press, Morgan, Rapinoe, Pugh

chicago’s very own giovanni narciso has been spotted on madison avenue driving a mclaren p1 , welcome ! your resemblance to shawn mendes is unreal . according to tmz , you just had your twenty-second birthday bash  . your chance of surviving new york is uncertain because you’re fickle , but being charming might help you . i think being a leo explains that .  3 things that would paint  a  better picture of you would be perpetually bruised knuckles, broken hockey sticks, and a smile so bright it blinds you . & ( cismale & he/him  ) +  (  dab , 19 , she/they, pst )

𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄  𝐎𝐅  𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐓𝐇  : toronto, canada
╰  *  background  info  !
giovanni narciso was born in toronto, canada on june 18th to a world-renowned hockey player and his socialite wife. needless to say, gio lived his life in the spotlight from the moment he was born, and he’s always had everything he’s ever wanted right at his fingertips.
from a young age, gio was encouraged to be active all the time. he started skating almost as soon as he learned how to stand up by himself. it’s no wonder that he had such a knack for it with his father being a hockey legend and the fact that he got so much practice. when his father realized that gio had a natural affinity, he put him onto a club hockey team as soon as he was old enough, and started making gio work with a private coach to give him a one-up on his teammates and everyone else on the ice ( despite the fact that he was only seven when he started ).
because of this, he always felt a lot of pressure to be the best he could possibly be… how could he not ? there were sports reporters showing up to his games to get the scoop on how he was doing, and how he compared to his father, and if he’d ever actually make it in professional hockey.
his parents divorced when he was eleven, and his mom moved to marry a much older, wealthy man in chicago, illinois. so, much to his despair, gio lived his life switching from toronto to chicago. the only constant in his life was hockey. so even though it stressed him the fuck out, it also made him feel at peace. he knew no matter where he was, he could get on the ice and kick everyone’s ass.
because he hopped between the two cities so often, gio was homeschooled and that’s honestly probably the only reason he got a high school diploma… had he been in regular school, he would’ve done terrible. he spent absolutely no time studying, instead spending all his time releasing his frustrations on the ice.
at sixteen, he was signed to a minor league hockey team in chicago. because of this development, he stopped going out to visit toronto as often ( especially when it was game season ). this caused a lot of buzz in the hockey community because oh my god giovanni narciso, son of a hockey legend, was breaking into the scene
he gained a huge following despite the fact that he was only on a minor league team( that was mostly thanks to his dad’s rep and the fact that gio was fantastic at the sport just like him ). it wasn’t surprising when the new york rangers offered him a spot on the team as soon as he turned eighteen. of course, he accepted the contract, and moved to new york city to pursue his hockey dreams.
now he plays as the first-string center, and has a huuuuuge following on social media. he’s one of those obnoxiously famous athletes yk ? if you like hockey even a little bit, you’ve definitely heard of giovanni narciso. fun fact: he’s #2 !
more fun facts about gio + hockey ( my otp ): the youngest captain in the nhl ever right when he turned 19, has one of the biggest contracts in nhl history !
phresh out of high school, he got married. which would’ve been all fine and dandy maybe if they didn’t rush into things, but they definitely did. gio was like… headass in love with her, but over time, their relationship got more and more difficult and straining, and all they ever did was fight, so they got divorced after a year of marriage, and it really fucked him up :/
╰  *  personality  !
hockey is a rough-around-the-edges type of sport, and that’s reflected in gio’s personality. he’s very charming, and is typically a pretty nice person ? he doesn’t go out of his way to be kind or anything, but he’s not completely standoffish either
he’s terribly stubborn, and once he’s set his mind on something, it will happen no matter what or who he has to do. this could be good because in a way, it just means he’s very ambitious, but it’s also bad because he will do and say things without a thought about how it makes someone feel
narciso is a fitting last name because he’s incredibly full of himself. how could he not be ? he’s the son of a hockey legend, and he’s made a great name for himself too. he’s an amazing athlete, and he knows he’s good looking too. it’s no secret that he’s a little big-headed sometimes.
he has a very short temper. he blows his lid very easily, and will say things he probably doesn’t mean just because he wants to hurt you.
he just??? doesn’t think. he doesn’t have a filter literally at all. will say the first thing that comes to mind always and it’s usually fucking stupid sdjdjas… he’s also a big jokester and very sarcastic and witty
also has a problem with being honest ? lies about everything? the type of person to smile in your face while he stabs you in the back? will lie when there’s no reason to? you could be like “gio did u eat breakfast” and he’ll be like “ya.” even if he didn’t like… dumb shit. don’t ever trust him about anything
so he comes off as cocky like… externally… but inside, he’s really insecure? like he believes that love exists because he’s felt it but he doesn’t…. think it was meant for him, if that makes sense. because every time he loves someone, they go away. because of this, he has a really poor vision of love n everything. uhhhh can u say trust issues?
most people think he lives up to the ‘dumb jock’ stereotype, which is something he’s also really insecure about. it’s not that he didn’t try in school. he did to a point, but then he just flat out stopped caring. school was always really difficult for him. he was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was 7, and it always made him feel really out of place in school… to the point where he just stopped caring because all it did was made him feel frustrated and dumb when all he needed was some extra help?
he’s misunderstood
and also just… a whole mess tbh djsaios….

They only made the playoffs last year because Pride shit the bed towards the end of the season lol. Most of Gotham fans hate Ash for non soccer reasons. It doesn't help she isn't playing well but let's not act like they didn't already have a messed up biased hate before she even walked through Gothams door. They should be more upset about their coach being shit and Long getting pregnant cause mf is dry taking a hit from her not being there.
Tbh they should be more upset at Scott and I think they are. And why should they be singing Ash's praises? They don't have any obligation to Ash, soccer or not. Kailen spent a considerable amount of time and energy Gotham (then, Sky Blue) and they loved her, especially last season. She literally created the best defense in the league and managed it consistently and honestly deserved her nom for GK of the year. Gotham fans have every right to be pissed they lost her. Ofc they don't have the right to be stupidly malicious but they have every right to dislike her. Ash is loud, opinionated, has her own way of doing things, and not everyone likes that. And people from NY/NJ are passionate about sports from what I see. They want to win and Ash hasn't proven to them that she'll can fill the boots Kailen has left. And ofc they'd love Betos, it's her home team. Do you think all Spirit fans loved Ash? Compared to Pride fans? I feel like people need to get over the idea of everyone having to like their fav player or treat them fairly. Sports is competitive and fanbases are invested in seeing their team succeed, to the point of being overly critical of them. That's a sign that the game is growing. I say let people say what they want, bc if anything it should give the player a chip on their shoulder and motivate them to play hard to earn their respect. I personally don't mind it because let's say if Carey Price got traded out of Montreal and we ended up with someone lile Mrazek, I would be pissed as shit too.
I'm so tired of the hand holding in women's sports. Y'all need to stop acting like your fav players are fragile little glass birds that aren't competitive or have a backbone. Be passionate but don't start getting annoyed about defending one player because a whole fanbase that stuck by their team is upset with the awful performance of that player.

Mercato Madness: The Final Say
Tumblr media
One thing is certain, you are not to soil this man’s name in this here house.
So the summer transfer marker of 2021 is over.
Let’s take some time to rejoice.
Since banter officially began way back in the summer of 2012, I can recall few players, events, coaches, matches that have divided Milanisti quite like this market. We have some that are singing high praise for Maldini’s ability to capture eleven new players on an 80 million euro budget. Then we have others ridiculing a transfer strategy that culminated in Junior Messias as the answer to the right wing issue, hours before the window closed. The human condition is manifold, reason a flawed and subjective invention, and as such a definitive manichean yes or no, good or bad solution or explanation for nearly anything we can perceive and comprehend is inherently out of reach. The summer 2021 transfer market is no exception. It can be seen as both a failure and a success and it would be difficult for me to argue in favor or in opposition to either position, resolutely.
To highlight this point, I’m publishing a Twitter DM convo between Mike and I, which I think also kind of covers how each of us feels not only about the players, but the strategy in general. Mike is more optimistic than I, but after re-reading this a few times, I can’t even disagree with him:
TR: I'm trying to just put my faith in Pioli and hope that Brahim lights shit up. Minus this, I'm not even mad at the moves per se, but more experienced or creative minds could have done more.
MIKE: We still desperately need an AM. To me that is the difference between a good window and not.
We replaced Donna, held onto Tomori and Diaz, added a LB, bolstered the midfield with Bakayoko and brought in what could be a 20+ goal scorer in Giroud. That's not bad.
TR: Ya I dunno. RW/AM were like the two areas I expected to be addressed with quality and early and here we are
MIKE: We also brought in Florenzi and Messias as band aids at RW. Not that I'm thrilled with either.
That all being said I think we are at a solid 7; get me an AM and we are at an 8.
I think people are really underestimating how much we needed another striker to go with Ibra and just how good Giroud is gonna be.
TR: It isn't a terrible market and the MF depth is huge, I just think we coulda done better.
Giroud is gonna be great, there is no doubt in my mind. I don't see how Zlatan regains his starting spot tbh, because I also don't see us playing with 2 strikers
MIKE: Also, Maignan for peanuts is a coup. Look at the keepers at the other top clubs in the league.... Ospina, Handanovic, Reina, Szcezny.....
We may very well have the best keeper in the league again
TR: We could. Oddly kind of a low bar which is weird when you think about how stacked the league was with keepers 3 or 4 years back
MIKE: I think he's levels above those guys.
TR: We’ll see.
MIKE: If Leao WOULD SHOW UP AND BE WORTH 40 MILLION we could live with whoever plays on the right. Amazing how he gets a free pass while folks run Castillejo out of town.
LW was trash last year yet the RW was the problem? We've but 10s of millions into that area and gotten fuck all. I don't get it. We paid 9 for Casti and 4 for Saelemaekers and they catch all the hate?
Sorry I'll climb off my soapbox.
TR: LW was at least productive, statistically. Samu was a net 0 and Saele is just not a good enough finisher to play that advanced. Also, we paid like 24m for Casti.
I get it. I gripe about players all the time, but there are certain ones like Saele and Samu where its like, this is as good as they can get. If you're unhappy with it, that's someone else's problem. I think the difference with Leao is that Leao's ceiling is literally world class so the patience is and should be a bit longer.
MIKE: What I don’t understand is people think these rumors m an we had a chance at these players or that somehow Maldini failed. We are a mid level team that made the CL for first time in years. We are barely relevant. Certainly not a destination.
The days of a guy like Sabitzer having a great euros and coming here are loooooong gone.
TR: My counterpoint top that is that mid-level teams playing for nothing are signing quality. Villa signed Emmy Buendia. Wolves signed Sanches. Roma signed Tammy. James/Bernardo, I never really expected but players the level of Vlasic were certainly within our reach.
But again, my issue is more the plan. Taking younger players that can't break into Chelsea and Madrid is fine here and there, but it isn't a transfer strategy. They pay a lot of lip service to the RB model but can't land the sort of players necessary to make that work.
MIKE: I’m sorry but there’s no comparison between us and even a mid level EPL team.
The spending power and attraction of those clubs is light years above us. All we can do is hope they are dumb enough to pay 25 million for Cutrone.
25 million is nothing to them
TR: Spending power sure, but there are a lot of players that don't care for the league or the country (weather/food/family/ etc.) otherwise these clubs would be thriving in tourneys like Europa and they don't.
I've been telling my brother that the model is the right one, but the coach, owners, and directors aren't really qualified enough to make it work. They are however, good enough to finish top four in Italy if all goes right.
And we've sucked for a decade, but players generally hate leaving Milan barring some kind of real personal thing.
The attraction, I believe, is still there. They just don't really have a coherent plan.
And look, the situations were bad, and I hate to beat a dead horse, but arguably two of your three most valuable assets walked out for free. One to a rival. I can't think of a real-life business comparison but that is a reallllllyy bad screwup.
MIKE: I can. You let older workers go and hire replacements at a third of their wages. Happens all the time
TR: But if you could have sold those older workers....
Well, that's slavery, nm. but you get my point.
The four ounce glass has two ounces of water, this we can be sure of. On one hand, we are definitely half full. We’re undoubtedly good enough to compete at a high level as indicated by our second place finish last season and first two games this year. This is as complete a team as we have had since the beginning of banter, and the work that management has done so far is admirable considering the restrictions. Mike is correct in that we aren’t in a financial position to acquire world-class talent, so names like Bernardo, Sabitzer, or even James aren’t quite our reality yet.
But we’re definitely half empty. Big Mike looks the part so far, but sorry Don-haters, he is not at good as PSG’s backup. In fact it would be difficult for me to say that we are substantially a better starting eleven than the one that huffed over the finish line last season, sans maybe Giroud. We’re good enough to finish top four, but it isn’t wild to think of scenarios where we finish anywhere between fifth and seventh. We have depth in almost everywhere, but we also accrued that depth at the expense of two positions that were burning for quality. And while we can’t flex and grab the names mentioned above, you do have to think that with a little more cunning, a bit more panache, and better negotiating skills, we could have done a bit more to make those odds of finishing 5th less likely.
But who is to say? It’s done, thankfully. And now it is time to enjoy the ride. So with our respective thesis’ laid out, let’s rate and speculate with a few questions and answers on the mercato by Mike and I!
MIKE LISI’S THOUGHTS
Biggest coup: Maignan for 14 million. He might already be the best keeper in the league and no one misses Donnarumma. On top of that, Maldini showed that he won't be bullied by the backup keeper for PSG.
The Biggest Surprise: Giroud. I bet he scores 20 goals.
The Biggest Oversight: The attacking midfield spot. Runner up is CB. Kjaer’s health worries me and we’re a little thin at that spot.
Overall Rating: 8/10; Maiagnan, Tomori, Torre, Bakayoko, Florenzi, Brahim, Adli, Pellegri, Giroud. All we lost was Hakan and Donnarumma and we have easily improved each of those spots. No complaints really. Also, we only spent 70 million. Between Hakan and Donnarumma we would have spent that much on their salaries alone.
Are we a better team than last year: Hell yeah we are better. Last year I think we greatly overachieved to finish where we did. This year I expect us to be top 3. Big difference in my mind.
TEEN ROCKETT’s TAKE
Biggest coup: Giroud. Unlike Mike, I won’t be surprised if he scores 20. I think for the price, the return is going to be higher than any other player we purchased this season.
The Biggest Surprise: Junior. I am letting my romanticism for his story cloud my judgement, but considering what he did with Crotone last year, I don’t think it is inconceivable we get five or six goals and a few assists platooning with Saele.
The Biggest Oversight: Not solidifying RW and AM. I just really don’t understand how we waited until the dying hours to address one and chose to take a considerable gamble putting the load all on Brahim for the other. Runner up will be not selling Kessie and or Romagnoli. But talk to me this time next year.
Overall Rating: 6.5/10; I am impressed with what we did for 80 million and I think we are a more rounded team, with depth in almost every position. We did a good job balancing youth and veterans. Additionally, moves like Pellegri, Traore and Clinton (the latter two being youths) are the kind of moves that get me excited for the future. But while I think we’re capable of about the same point total as last season I’m not sure we did enough to beat out Atalanta, Juve, Inter and to a lesser extent Napoli, and yes I’m saying it without really believing it, Roma. And from a strictly business standpoint, not capitalizing the Don and Hakan departures were massive mistakes. There’s no way around that.
Are we a better team than last year: We’re more complete. We will see what that translates to on the pitch. I’d have a tough time saying that we are out and out better, but if not, we didn’t take a step back.
Allright Leoni. That’s that. In the damn books. Sound off below and feel free to hit us with your own biggest coup, biggest surprise, major oversight, overall rating, and whether we are better or not.

"IT'S MY CLUB, IT"S YOUR CLUB, IT'S OUR CLUB" MICHAEL HEFELE ON HIS MOVE BACK TO HUDDERSFIELD, HIS FUTURE PLANS AND THE VITAL ROLE SUPPORTERS PLAY
Tumblr media
He's an absolute legend and he's BACK. Michael Hefele.... bringing his passion, heart, honesty and respect to this new chapter in his life and his new ambassadorial role at Huddersfield Town.
Here's my EXCLUSIVE conversation IN FULL when the Hef sat down to talk all things Town ahead of the first Championship fixture of a brand new Season.
HH: it's so good to have you back! And thank you so much Hef for taking the time to speak to me. First up how did the move back to Huddersfield happen?
MF: Well Phil Hodgkinson, the Chairman, contacted me a couple of months ago. I think it was in February or March, asking what my situation is, what I'm doing, what are my plans and my thoughts for the future? And I pretty much told him that I'm retiring because I couldn't come back from my last injury. And then I asked him, well I told him my vision... my plan would be to come back to Huddersfield Town in a different role to do my coaching badges, to develop as a coach and as well as I have a sporting director course starting now in September. So to develop these two sides and just to be in the football club again which I love, and which gave me a lot. And just to start a second career here with Huddersfield Town. Obviously I've got big plans and I told him my plans: that I'm looking in the future to be a Head Coach or something like this; or in the sporting director direction. But I have to do a lot of learning and a lot of work, and I want to get to know everything from scratch. Learn everything from scratch. And the people here are helping me a lot because it's a family club and you feel the positivity and the people are very friendly, and very very helpful. And so it's very heartwarming for me and Leigh Bromby is helping me a lot too. He's teaching me a lot as well; like the Academy, all the Coaches. And David (Threlfall-Sykes).... I could name everybody!....they've given so much input and it's just amazing to be back. And what is helping me after such a dark time is all the support from the supporters, from the fans, all the love. It's just incredible and it feels so so good.
HH: So you're seeing a manager/sporting director role potentially in the future.... What sort of manager will Michael Hefele be, be do you think? Like David Wagner (calm and composed)? What kind of manager do you see yourself being in say 5 years time?
MF: Well I'm just Michael Hefele. Michael Hefele is Michael Hefele!... There's a lot to learn. It's early doors but there's a lot of passion, with a lot of heart, a lot of honesty, respect are my main habits. What I got taught was that you're respectful, you're honest and you're hardworking, that you're passionate, and you put a lot of work and effort into every situation in your life. Doesn't matter on the pitch or in the office, always bring 100%. Always willing to learn, always put as much effort as you can put in.
HH: And as an ambassador for the Club, what are your ambitions for this role. In terms of the community; in terms of Huddersfield as a place?
MH: Well everything! I just want to give the Club back what they gave me. With the opportunity to live my dream, to play in England. And I had such a nice spell here. So I just want to give as much back as I can to every department, and everywhere. And where I can help I'm very open to help. And I want to glue everyone together. Fans, the Town, the Club, the players, the staff.... all the people around. It's not just about one person it's about 'we are Huddersfield Town', we are one community and this is what makes us strong. This Terrier bound, this Terrier spirit that we put together. It's my Club, it's your Club, it's our Club.
HH: 100%!!! I saw you were at the game on Sunday and I wondered what it was like to watch the game against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday (when Town won on penalties in 2017).... it must have brought back some great memories?
MH; It brought back great memories.... Hillsborough is great, and because for me I think it's a fantastic stadium. We had fantastic memories there, and a great night. (When I played there) it was one of the great nights of my footballing career, so obviously it's good when you come back to such a place where you had major success. And even when we went to the penalty shoot out and it was quite relaxed because I already knew we could win here in the Stadium because we used to do. So I was very happy and glad for the fans that they come back the first time and they got a little bit more than just 90 minutes.
HH: And looking forward to this coming Season, what do you think is possible that we could achieve? Obviously the last couple of Seasons we've been in a relegation battle and we've survived but now with Carlos and his second Season and now there's been a lot of players brought into the Club, what do you think could be achieved this Season?
MH: Well we had a good start already with the Cup now, but what I see so far everybody's humble, everybody's hungry and has a desire to win and the most important thing is that we have to stick together. Doesn't matter how we start or how it is going, everything is possible from my perspective. So we just have to be together and the supporters will play a massive, massive part of it. Because they can push the lads on the pitch. They can bring like this positive atmosphere when the guys are trying to win. You know sometimes you make a mistake and then the fans are there to help.... to cheer you up.... to help you out. Not to boo because this is never good because it doesn't give the players good confidence. But so far I'm full of confidence. We are just very excited that everybody is together and we have to keep in our mind that everything is possible BUT as a unit. And everybody.... and when I mean everybody I mean everybody. Even you! 100% Huddersfield Town you know. We are altogether successful and we'll have a very good time.
HH: You're a cult hero Michael through your time as a player, and now coming back to the Club. How much are you looking forward to interacting back with the supporters again?
MH: Obviously it's a big part of me. I like to be in the community more or less. I want to interact with everybody, just to glue everybody together. It doesn't matter where they come from, which culture, which religion. I'm very open minded. I like to be around different people. So I'm very excited that everybody can come together after this spell which was not nice for everybody with the pandemic obviously. But now we start together this Season and it will surely be a successful one.
HH: Just taking it back, briefly to your playing days what were your memories of that promotion Season and do you see any similarities between this group of players and the group of players you had back then? And the managers too - Wagner and Carlos.... do you see any similarities between the two?
MH: Well it's early stage. I mean everybody has their own style. The players, what I see so far.... they've got the hunger, they've got the desire. So I see this similarity to the promotion team but this is a different scenario and you can't compare apples with bananas or bananas with apples! So I hope we write a new history right now. But we have to stick together, we have to be humble, we have to work hard every day. Just work work work. And then, as I say everything is possible.
HH: I remember when you left Huddersfield Town as a player, and I wondered how tough a decision it was to leave?
MH: Well it was not my decision. I had to go, you know from David (Wagner). I never wanted to go. Huddersfield Town gave me the opportunity of English football, they gave me the opportunity to live my dream and I'm very thankful. The connection and the happiness and the togetherness. The belief.... what I experienced here it's just amazing. I'm lucky enough that I am a part of this football club and we achieved a lot of things. It was never my intention to leave the football club but sometimes that's how it is and you have to go on. Now I'm luckily back and it feels like three years that was in a blur.... so I'm just happy to be back. It feels like I never was away.
HH: What did you think of Nottingham Forest as a Club, and the comparisons between Forest and Huddersfield?
MH: Nottingham Forest is a great Club.... a great Club for me. Can't say anything bad about the football Club. It's a huge historical Club. Not many Clubs can win back to back Champions Leagues, and are European winners. I met a lot of people from different backgrounds, including high profile people which is amazing and I learnt a lot. Unfortunately I was always injured because of different problems: a torn achilles, I twisted my knee, broke my foot. Unfortunately it shouldn't be like this. I like the Club because it's so big and so huge, and the City Ground and it was an amazing feeling to play as well. The Brian Clough Trophy that we won and this is a great experience but at the end of the day I played half a year there and the rest I was more or less injured so my body let me down because I put everything on the line. Then it ends up as not such a good spell when you are just injured and you suffer a lot.
HH: From the outside looking in, I've always been a huge fan of Chris Hughton. I think he's a great Coach and he did a fantastic job at Brighton and now at Nottingham Forest. I wondered what you thought of him as a Coach?
MH: Chris is a fantastic guy. I just did a couple of conversations with him. I can't say anymore. He's a good guy. Like Martin O Neill and Sabri Lamouchi and they are fantastic characters and fantastic men and I obviously learned a lot from them.
HH: Finally coming back to Town.... which player in the Huddersfield Town squad best represents the Terrier spirit you played with?
MH: Well everybody's got a little bit of it. But if I have to call one person out, then it has to be Jonathan Hogg. He's the Captain. He's a proper leader and he's played a long time for the Terriers now. He’s outstanding - his working attitude, his character, his honesty is just brilliant. His fight on the pitch, you know. This is Jonathan Hogg.
HH: Could you give me a prediction for Saturday?!
MH: Well it's always tough you know. But obviously I want Town to have a good start to the Season and we win the game. I don't care how much it is by you know.... but at the end of the day we want to have 3 points and a positive start. But sometimes in football you play very good and you just drop but you still have positive momentum. I hope we will have a really good result and obviously 3 points but everyone wants a win in Huddersfield Town, and we are prepared for it.

anon post
for all 3 of my fans
i live for ur wit and sass
thx n same
Dont fuck with the best! Kate works hard to get the craziest anons to post in her yard, and I've got nothing but respect. There's no fan in the fandom as genuine and earnest as she is. Wishing her and her cats a long and healthy life!
lmao yall need to quit
you've probably answered this already but what do you think will give vm the best shot at the OG?
a good short dance + a good free dance + gui missing the catch-foot on his twizzle again
Are you taking the bar exam this summer?
no i just finished my first yr
I will cry if T&S end up together, They would be a horrible match. Surely I'm not the only one who sees this??
i am ashamed that this is the level of trollin i get. step up ur game!!
"i hope tessa marries semple so i can see all the shippers cry tbh" Poor Alex! Marrying him would probably restore his self confidence and prompt a return to the cfl! Still holding out hope!
honestly alex was the hottest of all her bfs. fedor is balding, has a dad bod n is wearing khakis on the beach now. and semple was always fug. also rl talk i didnt know canada had its own football league until this guy came around. thats so cute for canada
"i hope tessa marries semple so i can see all the shippers cry tbh" I want her with the Bitove guy. His family looks like the type that will post tons about them on sm afterward.
lmao yall know his grandfather started the toronto raptors?? i knew this brodie’s last name sounded familiar. also apparenty he and his fam golf at trump’s resort @ mar-a-lago VOM. tessa is 500% going to end up with a smarmy, filthy rich trust fund kid like him like its not even a question
Hey now. I want shippers to get overthemselves, too, but Tessa marrying Semple, god no. Basically, Tessa, open your eyes and save yourself.
lol i actually wish she was still dating him so all this mindless speculation rn would stop
Bitter and hateful is what I come here for. Anons should just fuck off and go to the Disney website if that's what they want.
vm fans are so damn soft n sensitive about everything lol, i rly wish some of yall would stop taking everything i say so seriously
Please come back, without your snark the fandom is controlled by the most delusional shippers.
i’ll post more when there r actually things 2 talk about. being around here when nothing is happening and ur all screaming into a vacuum about the same things over and over is like being institutionalized in a loony bin
why are you always up so late?
nhf for this east coast bias, it is a perfectly reasonable time in california
Which of the current/rising juniors do you see making tbe most impact next quad?
carreira/ponomarenko are going to win a olympic medal in 2022. even if the shibs, h/d and bock don’t retire, i see them easily rising through the pack - they just have the Look and aren’t without talent. i’m iffy on the rest - mcnamara/carpenter are too creepy and weird, parsons have no height difference and are siblings, both are coached by an unproven staff, everyone else are varying levels of mediocre. hawayek/baker will go to worlds 2018 if they’re lucky and prob never again if no one else retires.
i wouldn't take h/d's music choices as an indicator of what vm will have. they are the c team and vm are the a team in that camp. look at last season... h/d got stuck with marie-france's lame ass idea of the evolution of music and vm got prince.
true..... altho i think personal taste is important too. tessa would die b4 she ever approved an ‘evolution of dance’ sd
I want Tessa to steal Fedor back from Meryl. All that drama would be hilarious. Fedor lost his looks and is butt ugly now so he is exactly Tessa's type, even more so than in 2009.
i nvr thought he was that cute but he literally looks like he goes door to door selling pool cleaner now
I noticed that when Tessa shakes hands or kisses someone on the cheek (like during medal ceremony or interviews) Scott often puts a hand on her lower back even though there had not been any physical contact between the two of them before said handshake or kiss. It just always surprises me and I'm not sure I understand why he'd do this. What's your take on it ?
lmao ik u want me 2 say its bc his subconscious is screaming out in jealousy and he wants to covertly claim her and show the world she still belongs to him but i rly think they r just touchy ppl who like to touch. or hes makin sure she doesnt lose balance and fall off the podium as she’s leanin over
moulin rouge would've been a much cooler choice in 11/12 for their musical fd instead of funny face, but i don't see them doing it for their olympic fd. it's a bit tacky and overdone. i figure they'd want to do something that's a little bit more special and unique then that.
ia it wouldnt have been a bad filler fd for an off year. i just dont see it doing it for their Last Ever and for the olympics. its such a warhorse - what could they possibly say with it thats original? and its such a character piece - they r such overly emo, earnest ppl, i dont think they’d want to do something that different from themselves for their Last Ever.
huh what, vm don't stand a chance against moonlight sonata?? Pls... that would be a flop, such an overused piece of music everywhere, it's like Für Elise - hearing the first notes of it makes me vomit in my mouth a little
ya bc no one’s ever won a gold medal skating to a warhorse before
it sounds more believable to me than vm and moulin rouge tho
What interpretation? PC will just float around. They can do that in any key and judges will eat it up.
true, gui gui is a demon
No way. The judges will think they're watching Gordeeva/Grinkov again and just hand the gold to them immediately.
remember when pc said they didnt even know who torvill and dean and g/g were lmao
If scott doesn't cut his disgusting gutter frat boy hair I'm renouncing my Canadian citizenship and moving 2 Peru
was legit lookin @ pics from autumn classic n skate canada and i cant believe how short his hair was then, i can not believe i was complainin so much. i am honestly such a whiny bitch lmao this is my punishment
i have mixed feelings because Prince is the best short dance of VM's career so far but then Latch was one of the worst lol. It dragged in a lot of areas, especially the middle, and it never felt complete. I don't hate it by any means but considering we only had 2 free dances left and that was one of them... :| so I'm torn between trusting MF, and then thinking she's one misguided song choice away from ruining VM's swan song.
the thought of mf picking out the music for vm’s last ever fd makes me kind of sad. like yall have no ideas? at all?? ur relying on instagram suggestions and mf’s adult lite fm spotify playlists for inspiration? im surprised n disappointed tbh, like they arent kids anymore, i thought they would take more ownership of their careers.
but idk we’ll see. whenever i complain a lot, i usually like their material later lol
why do i feel like vm are gonna come out in their sd with despacito... the justin bieber version...
ok who is this person who keeps sending me despacito questions?? you sound like you want it to happen more than anyone else and are trying to will it into existence
It's funny because Tessa is SO cautious about everything she/they say, that she comes off/is rehearsed--I don't understand why she cares so much. They are not politicians or even super famous. Plus most people who watch (excluding Tumblr fans bc they're all extra) watch during high times like Worlds and Olympics. Most people don't watch interviews and press conferences. If they do watch one, it's usually only the fun "game" interviews or the mainstream ones like etalk which they are not tons of
idk what this is in reference to but ok lol. it prob matters to her bc its her life and she cares bc its happening to her? just spitballin here
Oh no what has Max Trankov said I'm scared to know now. If he's a Trump fan I might have to #nopeout lol he’s russian and a male chauvinist pig. he once said he wouldnt do a quad with tati until she had a baby for him...”and then maybe we try”
still gonna stan his trash ass to the end of time tho
Speaking of bad music cuts I could not stand the way HD's music was cut this year. Like I like all the songs they used individually but it just felt so weirdly put together like the songs didn't flow well into the next. The only part I liked was the last part with earned it.
really? i thought earned it was the part that seemed completely out of step with the first 2 pieces of music. the transition was way off and the tempo was so much faster than the other 2
The Facebook q&a is the first time I felt vm are actually compatible enough to be a couple.
should’ve published this steaming hot take when u sent it a month ago bc i have no idea what this is in reference to now
what do you look like?
tired mostly
haha funny how we went from vm are in a relationship to they hate each other.
dont ‘we’ me bitch i have nothing to do with this fandom’s daily emotional yo-yo-ing
Can you explain the Tessa/Kaitlyn Weaver friendship? Are they really friends? Kaitlyn seems like the kind of girl Tessa would make fun of behind her back.
more like kaitlyn weaver is tracy flick and is trying to bring down everyone in her path tbh
I get a bit of a superiority, cold vibe with Tessa, don't you?
no but i dont have self esteem issues
I think people who find Tessa cold and snobby do not get her at all. Yes, she is far from perfect and her feminism is all (...) but to call her cold and unfeeling means you haven't been paying attention at all. Like get off her dick and/or stop following her career.
i dont think shes cold either. standoffish maybe, but i dont feel like thats from superiority or aloofness. some ppl just want to mind their own business and chill?? not everyone’s a chatty cathy like scott
Music stresses me out. The only thing I've gathered from all of the various discussions is they should be exciting but not too exciting because it's an Olympic season. But they shouldn't also be too safe. Like I know you have mentioned various choices that would be good but what would be in your mind the ideal program, both SD and FD. It's their third Olympics, so how do they build on the past while still being fresh but also them. Or do they just not and give the audience what they want?
something original thats not a warhorse but is also audience friendly and is instantly musically palatable to a lot of ppl
so basically mahler
Which songs from moulin rouge should they use?
if they were doing mr (which i doubt), the orchestral score is 500x better than the cheesy ass nonsense from the soundtrack. like come what may with nicole kidman’s tremulous bird vocals and ewan mcgregor literally straining not to pop a vein would almost be too dramatic and Too Much. i think that kind of thing only works for a v specific kitschy, performative kind of team (a la russians) and wouldnt vibe with vm’s super earnest approach at all. but the orchestral score is genuinely moving and effective in a less garish way
but i dont think they’re doing moulin rouge lol
"the movies honestly made it hard 4 me to interpret hermione’s undying loyalty and devotion to harry as anything other than latent sexual attraction tbh lmao" Hahaha, pretty much. Plus, the whole Harry and Ginny thing, even more so in the movies, seemed to come out of nowhere and was cliche as fuck.
is bonnie wright still acting? i’ve seen dead fish more alive than her on screen
LMAO someone posted a clip from VM's show when they were having dinner with WP and they were talking about how WP live together and they ask VM how they deal with one another and LOL I stg I started loling cause their reactions were #priceless. S literally just had a WTF look on his face while he said something hella awkward & T looked like she wanted to slap him. Her follow up that she doesn't think they could ever spend all their time together just cements why they'll never date for me.
lmao that whole scene is so stupid. kaitlyn n andrew r such good friends i swear
Thanks for setting that anon straight. Set some boundaries so that they don't egg on shippers?? WTF. They're fine with doing what they're doing, and if they're dating others, those others are obviously fine with it too. Besides, it's not like they're filming porn or something. If you can't handle it, stop watching them.
idek what these r in reference to anymore but it sounds dumb as hell lmao
Wow I cannot believe that people actually think VM owe fans any explanation for their relationship/partnership. Like we don't know them, we're never going to know them or be friends with them? Why the fuck do they owe fans a detailed explanation of their personal business? I stg these shippers have lost their damn minds. As long as VM continue to put out good programs and do well I couldn't care less what they're doing off ice. Whatever it is it's clearly working for them. You do you VM.
the entitlement of some fans is insane. its STILL happening now with tessa’s ig now too. why dont yall just let her live n let her white-girl post to her hearts content. she is literally doing nothing differently to what every other skater does, idg this absurd criticism
Fr tho both of them have such nice teeth and I've never seen pics of them with braces, like how??!?!
tessa’s r so nice i cant believe she’s never had braces. and they r such a natural white? like u can tell w most skaters that they get it professionally whitened but hers dont have that artificial look at all
Are you in college? Your bio says 23 but it said that last year too.
i actually turned 24 a while ago im just 2 lazy to change it. im in law school currently
I just read an ancient interview with vm where they said Mahler was about getting married or something... WHAT
ya i cant remember if it was them that said or marina that said it tho. i remember a story about a guy who wrote them saying he and his gf were watching mahler at the olympics and once it was over, he was so moved he got down on one knee and proposed to her and marina was like ‘thats what that program is meant to do’ lol
Do you think Zach is a good skater and partner? I keep changing my mind on him.....
he is such a bland, wet noodle - no taste, no flavor, just empty white carbs. its up to madi to add any spark to the team bc she’s the real star, he just stands there and is tall and can lift her
Why the fuck are so many people freaking out because Tessa did not attend a wedding with Scott. 1. They are not dating so there are no reason for Scott to bring her. 2. She has people visiting 3. I bet they don't even hang out off ice 4. I think Scott has a secret girl in Ilderton. 5. TS not dating. I wish people would claim down.
this is so far back in my inbox i have no idea whats happening
I love it that whenever Tessa posts an IG story the fandom goes crazy analyzing and speculating about Scott what there even when he is clearly not Then there there are talks about TS wedding. WTF Soon it will be TS having babies. I am wondering if maybe the fandom (new fans) are mixing reality with those fanfics.
honestly no clue
I know this has been discussed before but I don't get how Scott and Jess even communicated. Jess could barely seem to understand English back then and Scott couldn't speak French. I wonder if them not being able to speak to each other is part of why they lasted so long actually
lol bryce davison actually learned french so he could communicate w/ her. not scott tho lol
I don't think T cares too much about fs friendships the way other skaters do. Of course she's friendly with a lot of them but she's not really close with anyone except her partner, which doesn't really count lol. She has her own friend group outside of skating and that's what she seems to stick to. It's funny you mention Meryl, Brooke, Tanith, and Lauren because they're all still really good friends.
honestly i think skating stressed (stresses?) her out so much back then that she really hated being in that world for too long. i dont blame her for wanting to disconnect and not having to hang out with skaters who just talk about other skaters and skating 24/7
I don't mean this in a mean way. Watching Avatar.  If you paint Meryl's face blue she could be in the movie
it kills me when ppl say she looks like a disney princess? ya the ant queen from a bugs life maybe
I think Tessa sometimes forget that Scott is a huge part of why they are successful and she wouldn't have all of these deals w amazing brands if they weren't so strong+didn't win everything. it's easy to put her on the pedestal bc she's gorg and can dance, but he should get/deserves just as much credit-- i mean he is the one lifting her and she could not do any of this by herself. sometimes i get the vibe that she thinks she's too good for him. maybe he's not as fancy, but he has a heart of gold
i’ve literally never gotten that she thinks she’s too good for him...? they go out of their way to pay each other compliments all the time and dont even jokingly diss on each other. its actually kind of weird that after knowing each other so long their relationship isnt just one long roast section where they talk shit about each other bc thats what my relationship w/ all my lifelong friends r like....but then again im a flinty bitch and they’re super earnest and emo like all the time. like i bet they both cry during sex
i find it kinda gross, disturbing and a bit pathetic that so many people feel the need to write erotic fan fiction about Tessa and Scott--like they are real people not characters, and it's kinda creepy that people spend so much time writing and reading them. Also, i would pay a million dollars to have someone show TS what people write about them--they would literally die and so would i--some fans are kinda extreme crazy
u know how on graham norton when he’s always showing celebs really erotic fanfic and fanart of themselves and they’re just dying of embarrassment?? i would literally pay everything in my bank account (so like....twenty dollars) for someone to do that to vm
omg it's gonna be so awk when tessa and scott have to see klawes...poor klawes, she just could not hold a candle to tessa. still don't know why klawes still follows tessa's insta--like i would unfollow and would not wanna see some of the pics t posts of TS giving each other lovey looks/touchy regardless of whether ts are together or not. also, it's never like t and klawes would actually be friends bc they're polar opposites
v disappointed that the olympic summit did not deliver on this #drama
tessa and kl were real friends tho, i think its sweet. and its nice they still keep in touch even tho scott is a dog
Are you a fan of tessa's style? She wears so much expensive yet ugly shit in my opinion.
lmao no. i think some of her casual wear is cute, but she wears some of the most hideous high fashion shit ever when she’s going out. like that blue carpet jumpsuit? yall know wht im talking about. those hideous trousers??? also she wears an unbelievable amount of boring black dresses
also gf needs to do smth with her hair. tired of her high bun and slick pony. she looks way cuter w/ her hair down imo
Do you think Tessa pays for all the Adidas stuff she wears?
no she def gets it for free. i was a walk-on my freshman yr of college for half a second and even i got a bunch of free shit from nike
How do u as an ed sheeran unstanner feel about ts doing these songs their obviously using him for the sd next season and i wouldnt be suprised if they use him for the fd as well
reading this made my cholesterol go up
really hope they're exhausting all the ed sheeran options now so they won't actually use it for comps lol
ngl i do kind of dig that embarrassing white boy rapping galway girl song but that cld prob just be my girl saorise ronan hypnotizing me like she always does
Minus the horrific man bun, do you think Scott's hot? Also, do you think Tessa finds him attractive?
no and probably yes now that hes so fug
Do you think Scott's attractive?? Also, do you think Tessa being told she's beautiful constantly on sm has made her get a big head--she often comes across as a bit cold and stuck up prancing around in her $1000 + outfits? Love her and she's gorgeous but...
some of yall need to stop projecting your shit onto tessa for real
Power plays of the figure skating journalists. Inside Skating does a very literal interview and article with P/C which blows up and then they go to Jackie Wong so he can basically write up a damage control press release. Kind of fascinating to see both journalists doing their thing with the same content. Hard to believe Inside Skating didn't think their article would create a storm. Interesting.
speaking of jackie, skaters r really going to him for their exclusives now huh? dying that ashley gave him her big la la land fluff piece instead of tsl. pays 2 be nice and kiss ass
Doesn't look like KH/JLB will have much of a chance to advance cuzis so crowded with the current seniors not retiring and juniors moving up. KH/JLB needs to work on their twizzles, thier lines, skating skills, chemistry looks promising. Some of those junior and senior teams should consider representingif they want a chance at aCanada doesn't have any promising teams once VM-WP retire. I feel like CB, SS, HD ain't retiring till they win Wch or OG which may never with PC around.
hawayek/baker could prob skate for gb because jean-luc has citizenship and carreira/ponomarenko could prob skate for canada bc she’s from montreal but i doubt the us fed is letting either of them go. they’ve invested way too much at this point. i don’t think c/p need to move tho, i think they’re talented to rise organically through the ranks. i think they’re more likely to be us #1 instead of not tbh
I don't understand the whole David and Tessa affair; like some people say it happened after he was separated and others talk like it was a full blown affair. The only thing I do know is that her being called a "homewrecker" or anything else of that nature makes me want to punch something because it's disgusting, and it's society go-to response. Be cruel to the woman and basically give the man a free pass. But maybe he received shit, too? I just never heard about it.
i think he was basically separated but not divorced when it happened
Do you think if TS and Cappelini and Lanotte switched partners they would be a good team?
lol no. anna’s not a great skater and luca looks like he’s shorter than tessa
Wait is that Tessa's ex Semple in that photo you posted of her pre and post nose job? Cause if so damn does she lowball herself. Like she could have such better looking guys I do not understand. Girl is very pretty she needs someone to help her pick better guys.
~we accept the love we think we deserve~~
I think T is cringeworthy as a speaker bc she's sooo gd rehearsed. Not a things she says comes across like she didn't practice it in the bathroom mirror 75 times that morning. She would be pretty good if she could lose even half the pretension in her delivery and tossed out the eye rolly words she keeps littering the sentences with like privilege and journey.
they honestly both suck. she’s worse than he is, but they’re both super stiff. and they always do this forced banter bit at the start which just seems so awkward lol
That one anon pointing that some have denied the nose surgery - this is exactly what annoys me about those shipper blogs, not that they are shippers (you can want them two to be together- that by itself doesn't bother me), but their ways and how they always have to insist on vm's perfect image - they all get so upset and aggressive when you point some issue out, like why would you deny Tessa has done a nose job... so out of touch! vm are interesting exactly cause they're real people with flaws
i can not believe ppl r denying her nose job. like yo its right there. it does lend credence to my theory that all shipprs r just hallucinating n seeing things that arent there tho
If Tessa and Scott did hook up while officially with SOs I have a feeling they wouldn't consider it cheating.
ok lmao??? im sure something extremely profound i said provoked this
how rich do u think scott and tessa are???
prob millionaires by the time 2018 comes around if they get their sponsorships
-
i might do part 2 later if i can be bothered... but nothing really makes sense out of context lol, its like watching charlie kaufman do slam poetry

Bayern Munich boycott would leave the German without even the faintest hope of winning Euro 2020
If there is such a thing as an earthquake in a teacup, then Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness caused one this week in German football.
Infuriated by the ongoing debate over whether Bayern keeper Manuel Neuer should make way for his younger counterpart Marc-Andre Ter Stegen, Bayern’s famously red-faced patriarch said he would sooner boycott the national team altogether than see Neuer give up the number one jersey.
‘We would never accept a changing of the guard,’ Hoeness was quoted by Sport Bild magazine on Wednesday. ‘Before that happened, we would stop releasing our players for international duty.’
Bayern Munich president Uli Hoeness caused a fuss this week in German football
BAYERN PLAYERS IN MOST RECENT GERMANY SQUAD
Manuel Neuer (gk)
Niklas Sule (df)
Joshua Kimmich (mf)
Leon Goretzka (mf)
Serge Gnabry (mf)
Like Bavarian pretzels, Hoeness’ comments are usually best taken with a sprinkling of salt, but this was quite the threat. A Bayern boycott would leave Germany coach Joachim Low without the likes of Neuer, Niklas Sule, Joshua Kimmich and Serge Gnabry.
It would leave the national team gutted in all positions and without even the faintest hope of winning Euro 2020. Now, as ever, Germany without Bayern players is simply unthinkable.
Since as long as anyone can remember, which in football terms is the 1960’s, Germany’s international success has been built around the stars of its biggest club. From Franz Beckenbauer to Neuer, the so-called ‘Bayern Block’ has dominated every German team worth its salt in the last five decades.
The heroes of Germany’s first World Cup winning side in 1954 may have come from Kaiserslautern, Nuremberg and Essen, but since then, German success has been made in Munich.
In the late 1960’s, a golden generation of Bayern players emerged to knock city rivals 1860 off their perch and rampage to a decade of success at both club and international level. A Germany side built around Beckenbauer, Paul Breitner, Sepp Maier, Gerd Muller and Hoeness himself were crowned European Champions in 1972 before winning the World Cup in their own Olympic Stadium two years later.
Manuel Neuer has been involved in a petty war of words with Marc-Andre ter Stegen
Beckenbauer would later remark that without the goals of stubby little poacher Muller, Bayern would still be a club run out of a little wooden shed. Similarly, Germany’s status as an international behemoth would arguably be unthinkable without that generation of players. Beckenbauer, Muller and co. set the tone for the next five decades in which a strong Bayern block became a prerecquisite for international success.
In 1990, Germany won the World Cup final with five Bayern players in the starting line-up. At Wembley in 1996, there were six of them. Come 2014, Low started the World Cup final with six Bayern players and two former Bayern players, and sent on Bayern player Mario Gotze to score the winner.
By now, there is an unspoken, symbiotic relationship between the national team and the country’s biggest club. Bayern provide the Germany set-up with a well-gelled core of high quality players, and the promise of international selection helps the club to poach the best German talent from clubs around the country.
Low, like many of his predecessors, has always understood on which side his bread is buttered. Having built his World Cup winning side around the likes of Neuer, Jerome Boateng, Philipp Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Thomas Muller, the fortunes of Low’s Germany have always been intertwined with those of Bayern.
Ter Stegen has become frustrated at his lack of game time for the German national team
In 2012, just a few weeks after Bayern’s shock defeat to Chelsea in the Champions League final, the same core of players succumbed again to a supposedly weaker opposition in the Euro 2012 semi-final against Italy. In 2018, with many Bayern players struggling for their best form, Germany crashed out of the World Cup at the group stage.
Low’s reliance on a strong Bayern block has also earned him criticism. The disastrous decision not to pick Ter Stegen and Leroy Sane in Russia last year saw the Germany coach accused of over-reliance on an ageing group of Bayern stars. For years, he has also had to rebuff grumblings from Borussia Dortmund that their players are too readily overlooked.
Irritating Dortmund is one thing. Irritating Bayern, with all their arrogance and influence, is quite another. In the post-traumatic rebuilding process after last year’s World Cup, Low’s clumsy handling of certain selection decisions has infuriated the Bayern hierarchy.
The sacking of Bayern trio Mats Hummels, Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller earlier this year already had Hoeness and co. frothing at the mouth. Aside from accusations of disrespect, there was a sense in Munich that Low had bowed to public pressure at the expense of his relationship with Bayern. Come the debate over Neuer and Ter Stegen, Hoeness the Godfather spied a useful opportunity to remind the Germany coach who his friends are.
Bayern duo Jerome Boateng and Thomas Muller have been dropped by Low recently
Hoeness has since rowed back on his comments, and the idea of a boycott should not be taken all too seriously. Germany is nothing if not a nation of lawyers, and many have been quick to point out that Bayern would not be able to withdraw their players from international duty without risking punishment.
The bullish Bayern president is more likely enjoying his last few months in the public eye before he finally steps down later this year. Hoeness was always good for a controversial quote, most of which were uttered with a twinkle in his eye. This, after all, is the man who once rubbished claims that Jurgen Klinsmann was the ‘Barack Obama of German football’ by saying that, if that were the case, ‘then I am Mother Theresa’.
Following his comments this week, Munich newspaper Abendzeitung had a less flattering comparison. Hoeness’ recent comments made him appear more like Donald Trump, the paper wrote, concluding wryly that ‘at least he doesn’t use Twitter’.
As player, general manager and later club president, Hoeness has been arguably the central figure in the successful relationship between Bayern and the national team over the last 40 or 50 years. The threat of a boycott was his way of pointing that out, lest anyone should have forgotten. But rest assured, the earthquake will remain firmly in the teacup.
A boycott would have led to a potential headache for Germany head coach Joachim Low

Bizarro Football: An Alternative History of the SEC in 2014
2014 was a crazy year for the SEC. It was the first season of the College Football Playoff and it seemed like every team in the West Division was in the race. Indeed, 6 of the 7 teams in the West were ranked in the AP poll’s top ten at one point and the 7th, Arkansas, upset some of the others. It was the year that the state of Mississippi made a play at the league title and came up just short. Missouri won the SEC East, but in this scenario the Tigers are still in the Big 12, so who steps up to take the Tigers’ spot?
Join me to find out how it would have all gone down if the SEC remained at 12 members. As a reminder, I try to keep to real life results as much as possible, but I use educated guesses based on computer analytics to choose who would have won games where the schedule changes.
Here are the previous scenarios if you want to catch up: 2012, 2013
SEC East Standings
Georgia 9-4 (6-2)* Florida 6-5 (4-4) Tennessee 6-6 (3-5) South Carolina 6-6 (3-5) Kentucky 5-7 (2-6) Vanderbilt 3-9 (0-8)
SEC West Standings
Alabama 13-0 (8-0)** Mississippi State 10-2 (6-2) Auburn 9-3 (5-3) Arkansas 8-4 (4-4) Ole Miss 8-4 (4-4) LSU 7-5 (3-5)
*division champion **SEC champion
Without Missouri the SEC East was pretty pathetic in 2014. It’s not that they were bad, but they were so far outclassed by the West that it really didn’t matter who won this half of the conference. The East went a combined 3-15 against the West in cross-division play, and all three wins belonged to Georgia, the only top ten caliber team in that division. Of course, it wouldn’t be a Mark Richt UGA team if they didn’t lose boneheaded games to rivals South Carolina, Florida, and Georgia Tech. What should have been a frightening Bulldog squad turns in a 9-3 record with a bunch of what-ifs.
Florida, Tennessee, and South Carolina were all solid, top 30 or thereabouts, but they had some strange combination of bad luck and plain depressing sad-sackery that prevented them from competing for the division, even though two of the three managed to defeat Georgia. Will Muschamp gets drummed out of Gainsville for having the gall to blunder a top 30 team to only 6 wins. Steve Spurrier’s unprecedented run at Columbia runs to an end, even if he’s not gone just yet. Kentucky wasn’t that good, but the Wildcats were slowly improving. Vanderbilt crashed and burned when James Franklin left, the Commodores were easily the worst team in the conference.
The SEC West wasn’t fair. I can’t say I’ve ever seen this kind of concentration of power anywhere else in college football history. My preferred computer is the Sagarin rankings, which put all six of these West division schools in the TOP FOURTEEN. Texas A&M, removed from this scenario, only laid at 22nd. I mean that’s crazy. LSU, a top fifteen team that could have been in the running to win basically any other conference, finished 7-5. It was just a giant mf-ing meat grinder. You wonder if former national championship coach Les Miles would survive finishing at the bottom of the division standings.
Of course, I have Alabama going undefeated through this. If the SEC kept on rolling without every adding Mizzou and A&M, the Tide would’ve hosted Ole Miss in 2014, instead of travelling to Oxford. I think this would’ve swung the outcome, a pretty near Rebel victory, in Bama’s favor. So Mississippi State’s record stays about the same, with the Bulldogs running through pretty much their best season ever. Auburn and Arkansas see their win totals inflate a bit, while Ole Miss and LSU fall back a little.
Alabama and Georgia meet in Atlanta for the SEC Championship Game. The Crimson Tide are making their third straight appearance in this scenario and 10th overall. The Bulldogs are playing for the title for the first time since 2011 and their fifth total appearance. It’s actually a pretty good game if you look at the computers. UGA was a scary opponent outside of its boneheaded losses, only a hair behind the almighty Tide. Wouldn’t it have been funny if the Dawgs had won?
So the SEC is actually a victim of its own success here. Alabama makes the Playoff as the undisputed #1 seed and perhaps the most impressive regular season resume of all time, and 10-2 Mississippi State makes a New Year’s Bowl, but does anybody else make it? Probably not. That’s the one drawback of being such a strong league, you beat up on yourself.

Fantasy: The best value fantasy signings, based on preseason performance
March 1, 20185:52PM EST
Reid, Mike and Blayne sit down with Tim and Parker to talk about all things Eastern Conference. Before the previews start, they also have a good discussion about the new player auto-switch system. Is it good for casual players or bad? Listen to find out. They wrap up with a preview of every Eastern Conference team. It’s a little longer than before, but Tim and Parker have a lot of great info!
While MLS managers use the preseason to mold their teams ahead of the 2018 season, hardcore MLS Fantasy managers are digesting countless hours of hit-or-miss online streams to get a leg up on the competition. Now that we’ve gotten a sneak peak at what’s to come, let’s take a look at some values that have emerged on the MLS Fantasy radar based on their preseason performances.
Armenteros in training for his new club | Courtesy of Portland Timbers
The former Serie A striker scored in all three of his preseason appearances, notching four goals and adding an assist along the way. That type of production may have earned him a spot in the starting lineup when the regular season kicks off, and if he can carry that goalscoring form over Armenteros could be a steal at $ 8 million.
Jon Bakero (FW, Chicago Fire, $ 5.5):
The 2017 Hermann Trophy winner gave us a glimpse of his skill set at the MLS Combine in January and he’s logged heavy minutes in the Fire attack during preseason. Technically, Chicago still have one preseason game to go (Saturday, March 3 vs Tulsa Roughnecks), but Bakero looks to have already locked up a spot in the starting lineup. Fire fans are excited to see what he can offer, and at $ 5.5 million the rookie is in a great spot to exceed fantasy value this season
Danny Hoesen (MF, San Jose Earthquakes, $ 7.5):
Danny Hoesen, right, receives congratulations from former teammate Darwin Ceren | USA Today Images
Hoesen spent much of his freshman season in MLS playing out of position, hence the midfielder designation he gets heading into the 2018 MLS Fantasy campaign. If preseason is any indication, it looks as though new head coach Mikael Stahre wants to get Hoesen closer to goal in his more natural role as a target forward. The positional shift already seems to be paying dividends with Hoesen scoring multiple goals over the course of preseason, and for $ 7.5 million the Dutch hitman brings double-digit goal upside at a very manageable price.
Alphonso Davies (MF, Vancouver Whitecaps, $ 5.5):
“Alphonso Davies is off to the races…”
Yeah, he does that… ⚽️🏃💭💭💭🕺 #VWFCpic.twitter.com/3754rvQWSJ
— Vancouver Whitecaps (@WhitecapsFC) February 20, 2018
The 17-year-old phenom showcased his abilities during an impressive preseason, scoring highlight reel goals and leaving no doubt that he’s ready to take on a bigger role in the Vancouver attack this season. He opens up a healthy chunk of salary at $ 5.5 million, and if you need a reminder of what Davies is capable of, just look above.
Auro (DF, Toronto FC, $ 4.5):
Auro, middle, plays between two Colorado Rapids players | USA Today Images
Auro wasted no time in making his presence felt since joining the TFC camp in mid-February. The flashy Brazilian wingback contributed an assist in Toronto’s CONCACAF Champions League win over Colorado and he played his part in helping the Reds see out a clean sheet in each game of the two leg series. It’ll be interesting to see how he’s used with Gregory van der Wiel in the fold, but based on his early returns Auro is a name I’ll be looking for when starting lineups are announced.
Which player caught your eye during the preseason? Let us know in the comments below.

❛ chicago’s very own GIOVANNI NARCISO has been spotted in new york city in a maybach exelero. welcome ! your resemblance to shawn mendes is unreal. according to tmz, you just had your twenty-first birthday bash. your chance of surviving new york is uncertain because you’re sarcastic, but being determined might help you. i guess being a gemini explains that. three things that would paint a better picture of you would be bruised knuckles, broken hockey sticks, and 24k gold rings. & ( cismale & he/him )
𝐅𝐔𝐋𝐋  𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄 :   giovanni stephano narciso
𝐍𝐈𝐂𝐊𝐍𝐀𝐌𝐄(𝐒) :  gio
𝐀𝐆𝐄 :  twenty-one

𝐙𝐎𝐃𝐈𝐀𝐂  𝐒𝐈𝐆𝐍  +  𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐓𝐇𝐃𝐀𝐘  :  gemini  +  june 18th
𝐏𝐋𝐀𝐂𝐄  𝐎𝐅  𝐁𝐈𝐑𝐓𝐇  : toronto, canada
——  *  background  info  !
giovanni narciso was born in toronto, canada on june 18th to a world-renowned hockey player and his socialite wife. needless to say, gio lived his life in the spotlight from the moment he was born, and he’s always had everything he’s ever wanted right at his fingertips.
from a young age, gio was encouraged to be active all the time. he started skating almost as soon as he learned how to stand up by himself. it’s no wonder that he had such a knack for it with his father being a hockey legend and the fact that he got so much practice. when his father realized that gio had a natural affinity, he put him onto a club hockey team as soon as he was old enough, and started making gio work with a private coach to give him a one-up on his teammates and everyone else on the ice (despite the fact that he was only seven when he started ).
because of this, he always felt a lot of pressure to be the best he could possibly be… how could he not ? there were sports reporters showing up to his games to get the scoop on how he was doing, and how he compared to his father, and if he’d ever actually make it in professional hockey.
his parents divorced when he was eleven, and his mom moved to marry a much older, wealthy man in chicago, illinois. so, much to his despair, gio lived his life switching from toronto to chicago. the only constant in his life was hockey. so even though it stressed him the fuck out, it also made him feel at peace. he knew no matter where he was, he could get on the ice and kick everyone’s ass.
because he hopped between the two cities so often, gio was homeschooled and that’s honestly probably the only reason he got a high school diploma… had he been in regular school, he would’ve done terrible. he spent absolutely no time studying, instead spending all his time releasing his frustrations on the ice.
at sixteen, he was signed to a minor league hockey team in chicago. because of this development, he stopped going out to visit toronto as often ( especially when it was game season ). this caused a lot of buzz in the hockey community because oh my god giovanni narciso, son of a hockey legend, was breaking into the scene
he gained a huge following despite the fact that he was only on a minor league team( that was mostly thanks to his dad’s rep and the fact that gio was fantastic at the sport just like him ). it wasn’t surprising when the new york rangers offered him a spot on the team as soon as he turned eighteen. of course, he accepted the contract, and moved to new york city to pursue his hockey dreams.
now he plays as the first-string center, and has a huuuuuge following on social media. he’s one of those obnoxiously famous athletes yk ? if you like hockey even a little bit, you’ve definitely heard of giovanni narciso. fun fact: he’s #2 !
more fun facts about gio + hockey ( my otp ): the youngest captain in the nhl ever right when he turned 19, has one of the biggest contracts in nhl history
phresh out of high school, he got married to vera. which would’ve been all fine and dandy maybe if they didn’t rush into things, but they definitely did. gio was like... headass in love with her, but over time, their relationship got more and more difficult and straining, and all they ever did was fight, so they got divorced after a year of marriage, and it really fucked him up :/
——  *  personality  !
hockey is a rough-around-the-edges type of sport, and that’s reflected in gio’s personality. he’s very charming, and is typically a pretty nice person ? he doesn’t go out of his way to be kind or anything, but he’s not completely standoffish either
he’s terribly stubborn, and once he’s set his mind on something, it will happen no matter what or who he has to do. this could be good because in a way, it just means he’s very ambitious, but it’s also bad because he will do and say things without a thought about how it makes someone feel
narciso is a fitting last name because he’s incredibly full of himself. how could he not be ? he’s the son of a hockey legend, and he’s made a great name for himself too. he’s an amazing athlete, and he knows he’s good looking too. it’s no secret that he’s a little big-headed sometimes.
he has a very short temper. he blows his lid very easily, and will say things he probably doesn’t mean just because he wants to hurt you.
he just??? doesn’t think. he doesn’t have a filter literally at all. will say the first thing that comes to mind always and it’s usually fucking stupid sdjdjas… he’s also a big jokester and very sarcastic and witty
also has a problem with being honest ? lies about everything? the type of person to smile in your face while he stabs you in the back? will lie when there’s no reason to? you could be like “gio did u eat breakfast” and he’ll be like “ya.” even if he didn’t like… dumb shit. don’t ever trust him about anything
so he comes off as cocky like... externally... but inside, he’s really insecure? like he believes that love exists because he’s felt it but he doesn’t.... think it was meant for him, if that makes sense. because every time he loves someone, they go away. because of this, he has a really poor vision of love n everything. uhhhh can u say trust issues?
most people think he lives up to the ‘dumb jock’ stereotype, which is something he’s also really insecure about. it’s not that he didn’t try in school. he did to a point, but then he just flat out stopped caring. school was always really difficult for him. he was diagnosed with dyslexia when he was 7, and it always made him feel really out of place in school... to the point where he just stopped caring because all it did was made him feel frustrated and dumb when all he needed was some extra help?
he’s misunderstood
and also just… a whole mess tbh DJSAIOS….
i’m gna make a seperate post for wanted connections, but like.... [sharpay vc] i want it all !

2021 NBA player rankings, Nos. 80-71: The big Chris Paul debate, plus young breakout candidates
Can the Point God hold up over the next four years? That, plus a bunch of us bet on young guys who haven’t established themselves yet.
Spoiler alert: a couple perennial All-Stars landed in this range in our countdown of the 101 best NBA players in four years. Which ones? The headline gave one away, but read on to find out the other.
Also, a number of us gamble on young players who have shown flashes in their nascent pro careers, but have yet to consistently produce. This is the range to make those kind of projections.
80. Willy Hernangomez
CHRIS GREENBERG: Kristaps Porzingis has been the rising star in New York. But don’t forget about not-so-wee Willy Hernangomez.
The 23-year-old 6’11 big from Madrid was a double-double machine in his debut season with the Knicks last year. Unlike Brandon Ingram and Jaylen Brown, he earned himself a spot on the All-Rookie first team.
Everyone else’s reactions
JOE FLYNN, POSTING AND TOASTING: He'll never be a shot-blocker, but he has the lateral quicks to stay on court on D. He just really, really needs to learn to defend the pick-and-roll.
His bucket-getting skills are already delightful.
MIKE PRADA: Unless the league changes the rules dramatically, there will always be a ceiling for traditional centers who cannot defend.
TOM ZILLER: Spoiler alert: Willy was not joined by little brother Juancho on this list. This might be the first set of brothers in the NBA where I have no idea who is going to be better in the long run. (I was convinced Marcus Morris would be better than Markieff; that was wrong. Marc Gasol is giving Pau a run for his money, too. NBA Brothers, a fascinating topic!)
CHRIS GREENBERG: I’m still waiting for Gerald Wilkins to take his rightful place ahead of Dominique.

79. Buddy Hield
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: I was surprised Buddy Buckets fell this low. The Kings hope he can be the next Steph Curry. If that prophecy comes true, Hield will be much better than No. 79.
Everyone else’s reactions
TOM ZILLER: If that prophecy comes true, we’ll have much bigger issues to deal with, like a frozen underworld and weekly locust storms.
ZITO MADU: I can see this happening, though I’m sure we will be more worried about other things in that post-apocalyptic world.
TIM CATO: Who you got winning the 2021 Finals, the Warriors or the Apocalypse?
CHRIS GREENBERG: In this apocalyptic timeline, I think Lonzo Ball signs with the Four Horsemen as a RFA en route to the ‘ship.
AKIS YEROCOSTAS, SACTOWN ROYALTY: Buddy might not be a better player than most people on this list, but dammit if he isn't going to be a better scorer than most. Hield projects to be an excellent scorer and shooter in the NBA for a long time.

78. Kyle Lowry
WHITNEY MEDWORTH: Lowry is already a little old and slow, and I think he’ll still be doing fine when he’s 35 in the NBA. Players are playing longer than ever now! He’ll be aging nicely with DeMar DeRozan in Toronto as best friends with a team that could never quite get it all together.
Everyone else’s reactions
MATT ELLENTUCK: That was such a sad conclusion. I hope you can figure it out, 35-year-old Kyle.
DANIEL REYNOLDS, RAPTORS HQ: I think the drop-off in Lowry's effectiveness is being overinflated and that his actual ranking in four years will be better than we imagine.
TIM CATO: He’ll be Jameer Nelson in four years, a fine backup somewhere on a losing team but far, far away from the top 100.
ZITO MADU:

77. Chris Paul
TIM CATO: Wow. You guys really think Chris Paul still ain’t going to be the most annoying MF-er on the court in four years? Everyone declines with age, and Paul won’t be any exception, especially defensively. But I don’t see his floor vision, absurdly good mid-range game, and general exasperating nature dropping off severely, even at 36.
Everyone else’s reactions
TOM ZILLER: I feel like Chris Paul won’t degrade gradually. One day, he just won’t have it, kind of like Steve Nash.
Of course, CP3 will be 36 in 2021 and Nash kept it going a few years longer, so we’ll see if this pick pays off. But as someone who picked Kobe in the latest edition of this project, I wish you luck.
TIM CATO: Should’ve drafted Kobe again. We all know that 2020 comeback with the Wizards is inevitable.
KOFIE YEBOAH: I love Chris Paul, I really do. It was just hard picking him with his history of getting injured combined with the gradual aging in a position that isn’t kind to older players. I couldn’t pull the trigger even though I want to see him throw lobs until 2050.
TIM CATO: You’re not wrong, but if anyone’s an exception, it’s CP3.
MATT ELLENTUCK: Ziller’s got me, noted Steve Nash fan, in the feels with that first line. Nash always had a history of back problems that led to his decline, though, and I’d like to think Paul won’t suffer the same one-day-you-have-it one-day-you-don’t fate.
MIKE PRADA: Reminder: CP3 has no meniscus in his right knee.
ZITO MADU: He will be retired at that age.
More reading material
76. Steven Adams
KOFIE YEBOAH: Steven Adams isn’t going to be a superstar, but he’ll be an important role player to teams in the years to come. He’ll defend, he’ll rebound, and he’ll get you some points for now. He’s already shown how tough he is in a grown man’s league and he’s still in the early stages of his career.
The most important thing is that he’s going to scare the living daylights out of those who drive into the paint. His impact on the court will expand over time and the way he helps out his team will not go unnoticed. Some of it will go beyond the stat sheet, but that’s the Steven Adams way.
Everyone else’s reactions
JOSHUA BROOM, WELCOME TO LOUD CITY: A mature 24-year-old veteran, Adams' physical prime is already intact. While the New Zealand native probably won't add eye-popping quickness or vertical bounce, he may become a savvier version of his current self in four years' time.
Adams could trend a bit higher on this list, but for now, No. 76 is a solid placement.
TOM ZILLER: I’m a little concerned about Adams’ statistical regression under the yoke of MVP Russell Westbrook, especially with Paul George arriving.
TIM CATO: I’m the author of the Steven Adams Encyclopedia, so of course I’ll ride with this pick.
MATT ELLENTUCK: Are we talking about the Steven Adams with the mustache or the one without?
WHITNEY MEDWORTH: He better grow back the mustache if he wants to be on this list at all in 2021.
More reading material
75. Rodney Hood
MIKE PRADA: I know Hood’s taken a few detours in his development, but I’m optimistic he puts it all together with Gordon Hayward gone. Would it surprise anyone if Hood is a 20-point scorer at least once in the next four years? It shouldn’t.
Hood’s career arc to date reminds me of Bradley Beal’s, though Beal was younger before his 2016-17 breakout. Both are/were young, sweet-shooting, crafty two guards that looked better with the eye test than on the stat sheet. Both took too many tough long two-pointers and both struggled with nagging injuries.
Then, Beal got a real coach that gave him confidence (and the ball) to ditch the long twos and launch threes and layups. Now he’s one of the NBA’s rising young stars.
I’m confident that Hood can make the same sort of transition now that he doesn’t need to adjust his game to play with Gordon Hayward. If he doesn’t, I’ll die on Rodney Hood Island. There are worse fates.
Everyone else’s reactions
MATT ELLENTUCK: I’m a member of so many islands, but go ahead and save a cabana over on Rodney Hood Island for me. I’ll be there in my off-time from Jake Layman Island.
RICKY O’DONNELL: I’m saying this a major steal. He’s going to have a big year without Hayward around.
MYCHAL LOWMAN, SLC DUNK: We’re less optimistic. While he never turns into the scorer that Gordon Hayward was, we think he’ll still be a capable floor spacer off the bench who can get buckets in a hurry.
TOM ZILLER: I once thought a young Ronnie Brewer would score 20 per game. Alas.
More reading material
74. Dejounte Murray
MATT ELLENTUCK: I really love this pick and I’m not sure why.
Murray looks the part of a successful point guard in this league with a tall, lanky frame, and that’s reason enough for me to get excited over what he may become. Subconsciously realizing Gregg Popovich will mold him into something special is what let me take him as a top-75 player four years from now. I’m ready for a Dejounte-Kawhi two-headed beast.
Everyone else’s reactions
J.R. WILCO, POUNDING THE ROCK: This is either too high for Murray, or far too low. If he's on the list in four years, it'll be because he's established himself in the Spurs' rotation. He'll only have done that if he's made good on his extraordinary physical tools.
TOM ZILLER: I stopped liking point guards who look the part when Javaris Crittenton happened.
MIKE PRADA: Gonna go out on a limb and say Murray won’t plead guilty to manslaughter in the next four years.
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: I second that optimism, but I think the Spurs will eventually transition to an All-Star point guard, and I don’t think Dejounte fits the bill.

73. Marcus Smart
RICKY O’DONNELL: You can count on Marcus Smart’s defense. He also made major strides as a playmaker last season. I’m willing to bet he can break 40 percent shooting from the field one of these years.
Everyone else’s reactions
MATT ELLENTUCK: I still am unsure why so many people are sold on Marcus Smart. I don’t think he does anything great, and his offense is such a liability it’s almost like his team is playing 4-on-5. Metrics don’t love what he does defensively either. Maybe he finds some solutions in improving his shot selection and jumper, but right now this seems too high to me.
TOM ZILLER: Paul Flannery is sold on Marcus Smart, so that’s enough for me. The Celtics picked him over Avery Bradley this summer, so that bodes well too.
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: The Nets want to model Isaiah Whitehead after Marcus Smart. Any time an organization is molding one player after another, you’re doing something right.

72. Ricky Rubio
JOHN KETCHUM: This one’s pretty obvious. Rubio has skills that fit with a lot of teams. He can pass and handle the ball pretty well, too. If he actually develops a jump shot over the next few years? Man, listen.
Everyone else’s reactions
ZITO MADU: I love Ricky Rubio as much as old people love blaming young people for the world’s problems, but that jump shot isn’t coming.
WHITNEY MEDWORTH: Long-haired Ricky Rubio will lead us all to glory.

CHRIS GREENBERG: I bought a Rubio jersey back when he was balling for Barcelona. So I’d love for this pick to pan out. I also strongly support the summer Teen Wolf look.
But he’s been playing pro ball basically since he was out of diapers, and I worry about his longevity.
MYCHAL LOWMAN, SLC DUNK: By the time 2021 rolls around, I think Ricky will still be a very capable traditional point guard, but he struggles to find a team that wants to offer him a starting job with the way the position has changed.
TIM CATO: Andre Miller’s best season came when he was 31 years old, the age Rubio will be in 2021. I’m fairly certain Rubio’s best season is in front of us.

71. Malcolm Brogdon
TOM ZILLER: Brogdon is a very nice shooter and great passer with a strong work ethic and a nice fit alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo. He’ll be 28 in 2021. Unless he gets injured or his rookie season was a total fluke — nothing about it screamed fluke — he’ll be a really solid starter for years to come.
Everyone else’s reactions
KYLE CARR, BREW HOOP: There’s a fear he’ll never improve on his rookie year, but Brogdon will still make the plays teams need when it matters. At this point, I see him becoming the steady veteran that every team needs.
KRISTIAN WINFIELD: I like Brogdon and what he stands for. Not sure he shines alongside Giannis and Thon Maker, and not sure he shines from the pack elsewhere, either.
TIM CATO: The worst Rookie of the Year winner since Woody Sauldsberry in 1958? Here’s a quote from Sauldsberry’s Wikipedia page. (Yes, I definitely Googled “worst NBA rookie of the year” to find this.)
Statistically, Woody Sauldsberry was an extremely poor shooter, having a field goal percentage of just 34.8% for his career. As a result, he has the lowest number of win shares of any player in NBA history, -7.9.
But that’s not a knock on Brogdon, who was solid in an extremely weak field. He should easily end up being a top-15 point guard.
TOM ZILLER: Woody Sauldsberry was a saint!
MATT ELLENTUCK: How the hell was Joel Embiid not Rookie of the Year?
MIKE PRADA: Weird thing about season awards: You kinda need to play a fair chunk of said season to win them.
I like Brogdon and this seems about right.

Coach Paterson’s MLK Weekend Round Up!
Frank Millett JCT vs Scozzie Bronze, Harvard vs Penn and Brady vs JJ Watt… what a weekend we just experienced!! Whilst PF, LP, MF and NS trekked up to Massachusetts, they waved at the Harvard Squash Bus (luckily Sean wasn’t driving!) going past in the opposite direction on route to UPenn for another highly important weekend of Ivy Scrimmaging with the hope of ranking movements before the lauded National Championship next month, with Coach Sam the current winning captain after Yale’s success last season.  As well as the college showdowns, Scozzie hosted its annual Bronze event with almost 100 participants looking to take home our famous candy jar 1st price awards!  Twitter almost crashed with all the updates and chaos… the dissected highlight reel of all three events can be found below… (and you can reminisce via our Twitter feed here...)
The one thing in common from the above comparison – Boston! It was the happening place on MLK weekend, as the first JCT of 2017 took place at Harvard whilst the Patriots hosted the Texans down the road at the Gillette stadium. Like Brady, it was a weekend worth of terrorizing opponents defense with a playbook full of highlights to summarize a scintillating start to the new year. From our 6 players who finished in the top 5, only 1 was seeded to achieve that result. The giant killing began as early as Friday as 8 top 8’s were formed and made for a weekend of big time match ups and many memorable moments.  (you can check the photo collection out on our Facebook page!)
The superstars who stole the show were Graeme and Meghna who were crowned King and Queen of JCT #3. Graeme carried all the pressure of entering this event in TD hot form. A JCT title in Seattle, followed by a first time Scozzie US Open finalist meant that Mr Herbert was the man to beat! This was his last event before aging up and being Scozzie’s only number 1 seed player furthermore added to the pressure. However the young man embraced every ounce of it on route to the final without dropping a set. The only worry, his opponent in the final had done exactly the same and beaten the #2 seed in a 3/0 upset on Sunday. The crowds gathered and the youngsters performed, what a match it was. Graeme held off a gutsy comeback to sneak Game 4 in the matches 2nd tie break to win his 2nd JCT and cap his U11 career with a statement victory! Meghna was just as convincing in the early rounds, as she battled into the quarters in super fast speed looking dynamic, decisive and dangerous leading into a quarter final match up against the number 1 seed. This is where the ‘Meghna Magic’ reached new unprecedented levels. She found the perfect contain/create balance to perfectly execute a game plan winning 3/1 to reach the semi final. It didn’t end there… Meghna then raised the bar even higher, as her performance level increased once more. She was unplayable at times, as she steam rolled through the semis and final to avenge her final defeat at the Penn JCT and remain undefeated as a 15 year old in JCT events! What a performance from the two stars of the moment, coaches are very proud… Well done G and M!
Two winners from three finals was pretty impressive. Devon was the third finalist, but was pipped at the finishing line by a strong local opponent who was in the form of her life. The Bostonian defeated Maya in the semis preventing a first ever All-Scozzie JCT final and then upset the perfect record to put a minor dampener on the celebration party. Both girls were seeded outside top 4, so to upset the odds and finish 2 and 3 was a fantastic result to kick off 2017. Well done to Maya for bouncing back in the 3/4 to dominate 3/0. Those matches are always extremely difficult mentally to get past the disappointment and refocusing on the process. But Maya managed it perfectly and it’s another big step forward for our two star U13’s who are red hot favorites going into Baltimore and then Nationals back in Boston. Can we count out an all Scozzie Nationals final??! I wouldn’t….
Four in the top 3, how about six in the top 5?! Eric and Winston capped ‘Majestic Monday’ by winning out the Classic Plate and 5th position in the U19 and U11’s. After defeating fellow Scozzie Will G in R1, Eric had a career result against former US #1 and National Champion Ryan M. The highlight was a ‘lights out’ 5th game where Eric went for everything and hit everything, putting on an absolute show for the spectators to win 11/2 and upset the higher ranked opponent for the first time ever. After losing to the eventual winner in the quarters, Eric avenged defeat for the Westchester Gold final back in June, by winning 3/0 in dominant fashion against another opponent who is currently rated higher and who he’d never eaten (auto corrected from beaten!). To cap it off, the best was still yet to come. In the 5-6, Eric defeated the current National Champion is a classy 3-0, which was his most sophisticated performance of his young career. 4 huge results for the young man who is hitting top form at the perfect time. Destined to break the top 10 on Wednesday, the future is bright with over 18 months still to go in the division. Winston was equally as impressive in a remarkable achievement remembering he’s only been playing squash for just over 1 year. The man has talent and his only defeat of the weekend was to the #2 seed whom he still pushed right to the limits in a 3/1 epic. A dark horse for Nationals… I think so! Shaam and Christian completed our 8 top 8’s, both losing out in the quarter finals to the eventual winner and runner up. Tough draws for the boys, but the points earned will push them ever Closed to a top 4 ranking, which could prove pivotal for next  months JCT.
The Bronze saw 80 entrants travel through for the one day Saturday event which had Coach Bryan as Tournament Director and CL, EL, SF and JH coaching our Scozzie sensations through the event! We had a quarter of the draw and provided double the entertainment and excitement! Paul, Jimmy, Pardis, Betsy and Elsa were the Fantastic 5 in reaching their respective finals, with Paul and Elsa joining Meghna and Graeme with the champion crowns. A male and female winner at both events made for a historic weekend and MLK Day 2017 won’t be forgotten any time soon. Well done to everyone who participated and continued the superb Scozzie start to Season 6 – 2017.
Now for a few throwbacks to conclude the weekend reportage! Throughout the weekend we had many Scozzie’s involved in Ivy League scrimmaging, as well as several Little Ivy and NESCAC showdowns. Many were originals from Scozzie Season 1 back in 2011 and we have 4 current captains – BG @Penn, Jamie @Williams, Maya @Columbia and Patrick @Colby leading the charge. The big match up was Harvard vs Penn, with both schools hopefully targeting that elusive National Championship next month. Harvard came out on top this time, as freshman and 2016 Scozzie grad Sean won and only conceded a remarkable 7 points against a former US number 1. BG lost that match up at number 9, as Harvard won 8-1. Harvard and Penn then went on to defeat Dartmouth 9-0 and 8-1, as Sean and BG both won those matches. Maya was 2-0 up at 5 against Yale, but went down in 5. She recovered to record a 3-0 win against Brown though and the team won 6/3. Navy also played Williams, which had 4 Former Scozzie’s making up the 18 man match up, with Navy winning 7-2.
What a weekend, what a start to 2017, we can’t wait for next weekends P2P where the action continues. Well done everyone and stay tuned for next weekends report!
