Today marks what would have been Queen Elizabeth II's 98th birthday, and to mark the occasion, a new statue of her surrounded by her beloved corgis has been unveiled in Rutland's county town of Oakham.

The statue is the first to be commissioned since her death in September 2022, and is set to be a permanent fixture paying tribute to England's longest reigning monarch. The 7ft (2.1m) bronze statue features a somewhat younger Queen Elizabeth II in her crown and what appears to be robes of the Order of the Thistle, surrounded by four adoring corgis.

On display outside Oakham Library, the artwork was commissioned by the Lord-Lieutenant of Rutland, Dr. Sarah Furness, told Oakham Nub News it was in response to the "depth of loss felt in Rutland on the late Queen's death".

Gwen’s story is extremely tragic for so many reasons. But the worst is how alone she is after she becomes queen. When she was a servant, she had Merlin, Morgana, and definitely neighbors, fellow servants, and townsfolk to talk to and keep her company.

But when she becomes queen, she cannot have that anymore. People will either treat her as superior because of her status or treat her with resentment because of her humble upbringing. Not to mention, the safety of the entire kingdom is on the line if she trusts the wrong person. Merlin and Arthur had it rough, but at least they had each other through it all.

Yes, both Merlin and Arthur are still there, but they’re always off risking their lives and they’re always together. She’s left to rule and dine alone every time. Her husband doesn’t even notice she’s enchanted and trying to kill him, he has to be told by Merlin.

I think the most evident proof of her loneliness is in 5x01 when Arthur is off risking his life for the billionth time and she can’t eat the food her servant places in front of her. Instead, she says, “if you could just sit with me?” She is so desperate for someone to talk to. For someone to be her version of Merlin. But of course, this servant turns out to be a traitor and reinforces the truth that she cannot befriend anyone. She must be alone.

And her reward for all of this sacrifice, everything she’s lost? To lose her king and have the entirety of Camelot placed on her shoulders for the rest of her life.

Gwen didn’t ask to become queen. She just fell in love with the wrong person.

Man. Everyone in flicker will Explode once the paladins arrive, huh. I can't wait to see how flicker Allura and Keith interact when its in person and not vague dreamscape. Its always so fun seeing the different dynamics you give to Allura and Keith. Like they're always different but always so distinctly in character. Like look at Long Live the Queen. Absolutely infected my brain with Keith and Allura thoughts.

It's definitely going to be a wild time for everyone involved! They've never met him, but he's been skirting the edge of their lives for ages now. He's Krolia's half-human son. Adam and Veronica both adopted him while they were gone and Lance's family has accepted him as one of their own. Colleen and Sam are considering adoption as well.

And always glad to hear that I've injected the Allura and Keith thoughts into your head. They have such a great dynamic together that I think goes unexplored both in canon and in fandom spaces, which is a total shame!!!

Elizabeth made her first foreign tour as Queen in 1954, a seven-month trip around the Commonwealth with Australia as the first stop. It was a historic event in that it was the first time a reigning monarch had set foot in the country, and both Elizabeth and Norman Hartnell were keen to include as many sartorial references to the host nation as possible. Green and gold, as the colours of Australia's Commonwealth Coat of Arms, featured heavily in the wardrobe, and so too did the wattle, the national flower. On the first night of the tour, Elizabeth dazzled the crowds in a sunshine-yellow gown speckled with golden wattle flowers. "I was never more impressed than when I saw her wearing her wattle gown. It was regal and it was Australian," wrote the artist William Dargie, who later commemorated the dress in the official Australian portrait of the Queen. "I knew I had to have that wattle gown."

Raise your hand if this is the redesign you've been waiting for (me too, reaching this outfit/theme was a great goal to keep focused on).

(Rant incoming about her tv show coronation gown. If you like it, power to you) Again, it's one of those show stoppers that the show technically had a good idea for but the execution...missed the mark for me. I don't know if the lighting killed the vibe or something but.... I was so hyped when they were putting on the sleeves.. but then they revealed the bodice and the crown.... (TT^TT). The pattern/texture is waaaay too busy and the crown is sadly underwhelming (p.s. I'm really not a fan of her dom/dark needle Lady Winterfell tv dress and this show coronation dress is just part 2 of that with cooler sleeves).

Anyway I did really love the sleeves so I started there. Added simple pale grey over gown, alluded to previous "Northern" fashion styles, letting the silhouette and the red of her hair do most of the talking. This is about how calm/simple/elegant she is in this moment.
