The House of Commons reacting to Pitt’s Death
Pitt died on January 23, 1806 and the House of Commons meet the next day. The death of the Prime Minister had spread like wildfire – especially since his health had been so bad for so long, so there was no need for a public declaration. It was assumed everybody present was aware of the circumstances. In fact, the first order of business was a letter from the King read to the Members of Parliaments (the King thanked them for expressing their condolence upon the death of his brother, the Duke of Gloucester) and the continuous affair of the impeachment of Henry Dundas, Lord Melville. Pitt’s death was the third order of business that day. It was proposed that the House should debate his funeral and a show of public respect on Monday next, January 27.
His death was of a political and social consequence. Pitt’s passing left many important positions vacant, not just the office of Prime Minister. He had a considerable group of friends and followers in Parliament. Many of his colleagues, even if they were in opposition to his political points, expressed sympathy, respect for him.
There was also a certain order of business that was expected when a person of such public interest and a Prime Minister no less, died.
The topic of his death and funeral was again brought up on January 27, when a replacement for Pitt’s seat in Parliament was also sought. The House also took the time to reflect upon Pitt’s character and political legacy at length. Mr. Lascelles rose to present the motion:
I shall therefore conclude with moving, “That an humble address be presented to his majesty, that his majesty will be graciously pleased to give directions, that the remains of the right hon. William Pitt be interred at the public charge; and that a monument be erected, in the collegiate church of St. Peter, Westminster, to the memory of that excellent statesman, with an inscription expressive of the public sense of so great and irreparable a loss; and to assure his majesty that this house will make good the expences attending the same.”
Corbbett’s Parliamentary Debates, Vol. XI, London, p. 73.
The vote went as follows:
Corbbett’s Parliamentary Debates, Vol. XI, London, pp. 73-74.
Mentioned in the last instant is the debate over the full payment of Pitt’s debts (messy affair and messy debate) that would be discussed Monday next, February 3, 1806. On that day, the House was much more divided upon the topic of Pitt’s debts, but one very interesting speech came from nonother than Charles James Fox:
I shortened his speech a bit, but Fox essentially goes on to criticize some of the arguments and tactics made by the other proponents of the notion – while still being in support himself.

NGRID SEWARD: Prince Philip will be turning in his grave after Harry disregarded his wishes and effectively abandoned his family name by u/Von_und_zu_
NGRID SEWARD: Prince Philip will be turning in his grave after Harry disregarded his wishes and effectively abandoned his family name
Not only is Harold abandoning something that Prince Philip fought very hard for -- Harold does not even seem to know it is his surname.Seward has no problem with Harold and Madame using Sussex as a surname but takes exception when it comes to the putative children. But it is different for the children, four-year-old Archie and Lilibet, two. Their family name is Mountbatten Windsor – and should remain so. ‘Sussex’ is not correct. It is not even a surname.Few Americans will be much troubled by all this – and it is hard to avoid the suspicion that the US is the only place that registers with Meghan.Yet the Royal family does care about these things and so does the British public. Moreover, the Mountbatten-Windsor family name has a particular significance. Philip had been dismayed to find that when his wife Princess Elizabeth became Queen in 1952, their children - and their children’s children – would not bear his surname, Mountbatten. Rather, they would be Windsors, named after the family of the Queen.Philip was both furious and wounded. The decision was felt to be emasculating and cruel. ‘I am the only man in the country not allowed to give his name to his children,’ he protested.‘It hurts him,’ recalled Countess Mountbatten, the wife of Philip’s uncle and mentor, Lord Mountbatten of Burma, at the time. ‘He had given up everything for his wife and how this, the final insult. It was a terrible blow.’It was elder statesman Winston Churchill who found a solution, one encouraged by the young Queen’s private secretary, Tommy Lascelles – a wise head some 40 years her senior.Together, Churchill and Lascelles forced Elizabeth’s hand – she lacked the confidence to do it by herself - and it was agreed that all descendants of the royal couple down the male line would be named Mountbatten-Windsor, aside from those who were princes and princesses.A tactful compromise. How sad, therefore, that only three generations later, Harry should so blatantly disregard his grandfather’s wishes and effectively abandon the family name for which Philip had fought.https://ift.tt/7QOhsLt to add this from the royal family website:https://preview.redd.it/7jm93gu8qzic1.png?width=1507&format=png&auto=webp&s=a5f7eaa12f4edd4402644016cd4c7e3467b4f969

I just about forgot this little tidbit from "Traitor King":
[In May 1946, David's friend and advisor, and fellow appeasement fan, Kenneth de] Courcy saw Lord Clarendon, the Lord Chamberlain of the Royal Household, asking if Fort Belevdere could be made available to the Duke as he 'was proposing to make some statement to the press in America retailing all his grievances against the King and the British government.' Clarendon reported the blackmail to [the King's private secretary] Tommy Lascelles, who contacted Guy Liddell of MI5 and it was agreed 'to take the risk of the Duke giving a statement to the press which he does not think would cut much ice.'

This is the kind of parallel I was talking about.

I would love to hear about sharpe and strange for the WIP ask!
the sharpe and jsamn crossover! the structure of this is planned to be a few interactions between members of the extended world of each story over the course of a single night -- Sharpe and Strange, Harris and the library, and Hagman and Childermass. (I've also been thinking that Jane and Lascelles would be likely to come across each other, since they're both moving in the same circles at the time this fic is set, but I'm not confident enough at writing either of them to feel really secure about adding that section.)
This was the house of the magician that had been so celebrated in the Peninsula, the one who had made a havoc of Sharpe’s existence with the way he turned the roads and the rivers and the earth itself all around below the soldiers’ feet. It was a fine enough thing for a strategist like my lord of Wellington to say “let the country be reshaped to suit me,” but the idea of it had always put Sharpe out of sorts.
...some of them are having a better time than others.

Henry ‘Chips’ Channon: The Diaries (Vol. 1), 1918-38, entry for 2nd July 1923
—
Monday 2nd July
In the evening we dined at Brook House some ninety strong with General and Mrs Vanderbilt.¹ Later there was a large ball, very fashionable and grand yet ‘kind’. Mrs Vanderbilt passed first into dinner with Paul of Serbia, which was correct but seemed to irritate Lord Curzon .... At midnight the P of W and the Yorks arrived ... her² first ball. Everyone was interested to see what would happen and what etiquette would be precedented and established. She was charming, dignified and blushing a little. Everyone ‘bobbed’ to the ground, if anything even lower than to the princes. Now that is settled. She brought no lady-in-waiting as Princess Mary³ frequently does ...
—
1. Brigadier General Cornelius Vanderbilt III (1873-1942), of New York, was a soldier and yachtsman: in 1896 he married, greatly against his father’s wishes, Grace Graham Wilson (1870-1953).
2. The former Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon.
3. Princess (Victoria Alexandra Alice) Mary (1897-1965), only daughter of King George V and Queen Mary. She married Henry George Charles Lascelles (1882-1947), by courtesy Viscount Lascelles, who in 1929 became the 6th Earl of Harewood. She was created Princess Royal in 1932.

I'm inclined to believe this article. I never understood why Charles would have an issue with his mother's private secretary but I can understand Andrew because he's just petulant and continued to pursue self serving interest.
And considering that the QE had two large private working property among others that is passed down to the heir on the death of the monarch, which was Sandringham estate and Balmoral estate, it didn't make sense why Charles was buying up other properties like dumfries house?
William had a point, the monarchy needed Lord Geidt and it would seem that due to combined internal faction they succeeded at unceremoniously retiring him from his post. They could've been more just and Kinder like they did to Tommy Lascelles.

The Shadows of London Town is a OC, multi-muse roleplay server based on discord. Set in a fictional retelling of London, 1888, join our world fit with supernatural creatures & a monarchy waiting to be toppled. 18+.
( plot details here: https://bibbleshoni.tumblr.com/post/682431303244808193/an-oc-based-literate-rpg-based-on-discord-set-in )
Casting for: King Thomas Lascelles. Human.
Thomas is the face of England. A proud and stubborn man with only the best interest of his country at heart. Yet, he is a puppet for his malicious and narcissistic wife, Victoria, who uses her dear husband to manipulate the pawns of London. Like his wife, Thomas has a rather public disdain for the supernatural that lurks in the shadows. Along with his wife, Victoria, he has three children; Everett, Angelica and Alice. ( 45-60. Age is adjustable. FC up to writer. )
Casting for: Lord Gideon Bennett. Werewolf.
Gideon is a good man. A werewolf, he loves his family and his pack, but he is tired. He’s serene and level-headed, but has a aggressive streak that shows all too often. The upcoming war troubles him, especially the heat that has fallen upon his family. He dreams of peace between the supernatural and the human, though doesn’t much like the fae. Married to his beloved wife, Andromeda, he has two daughters, Amaylea and Harriette. (45-60. Age is adjustable. Suggested FC: Sam Heughen. )
Casting for: James Philips. Human.
James is an rich, adventurous young man with little care for his wealth. His farther owns a factory and one day, it will be his. He prefers to spend time away from the factory and in his family’s grand library or wandering along the streets of London. Every day, he walks the same path, hoping to see Elizabeth Liddell, a gentle flower girl he’s become infatuated with. She feels the same, but neither admit it. James know his father would never approve. (21-25. Suggested FC: Jonah Hauer-King. )
Casting for: Leopold Alton-Wright. UTP.
Leopold comes from two rich families. His father’s side, the Altons, lost their wealth in years of gambling and opium use, meaning he sought ways to provide for himself and his mother to keep them in luxury. He landed a job within the royal palace, due to the relationship between Victoria and his mother, Jane, he worked his way up from a mere Tea-Boy to the Firsr Footman. Leopold is a very charming, intelligent man who is beloved by many, though has found Princess Alice Lascelles has captured his heart. She just doesn’t know it yet. (20-25. Suggested FC: Douglas Booth. )
Casting for: Ambrose Calver. UTP.
Ambrose is a very well respected man. His charm and elegance entices many, especially with his heroic deeds as a (former) knight in the King’s Army. Polished and poised, Ambrose is one of the most eligible bachelors in London, but he’s caught sight of Alice Lascelles’ lady in waiting, Theodosia Camden. He’s protective, too, and will do anything for those he loves. (21-27. Suggested FC: Rege Jean Page.)
Casting for: Luther Baxton. UTP.
Luther is a gruff man with a strong moral code and a protective streak. Coming from a large family in London’s slums, he’s made his way up in society with his hard work and determination. Luther takes his job as Princess Alice Lascelles’ guard very seriously. He won’t show it, but he has a soft spot for the Princess and cares deeply for her. Maybe a little too much. (30-50. Age is adjustable. FC is up to writer.)
Many other skeletons are available ( and we’re also dying to see new original characters too! ) within our world. If you’re interested in joining and / or want to pick up one of these characters, please drop me a message to discuss details!

In the meantime, it was dark; the cutter flew along the coast; and the Needles' lights were on the larboard bow. The conversation between Cecilia, Mrs. Lascelles, and her father, was long. When all had been detailed, and the conduct of Pickersgill duly represented, Lord B. acknowledged that, by attacking the smuggler, he had laid himself open to retaliation; that Pickersgill had shewn a great deal of forbearance in every instance; and, after all, had he not gone on board the yacht she might have been lost, with only three seamen on board. He was amused with the smuggling and the fright of his sister; still more, with the gentlemen being sent to Cherbourg; and much consoled that he was not the only one to be laughed at.
