Good 🌙 Night. There was only one A-12 Trainer. It had the smaller engines, the J 75, because, when the trainer was built, they were still waiting for the J 58 to be finalized. The ” titanium goose” had two cockpits…in both cockpits were the controls for flying …either one could fly the airplane. It was possible to switch off who had the stick. The trainer helped pilots get a feel for flying the A-12 after time in the simulator.

At Area 51, Kelly Johnson, Skunk Works genius, got a ride from Lou Schalk on September 6, 1963. Kelly took the controls and flew the A-12! Lou gave him control of the aircraft. Lou recalled, " I took off, cleaned it up, and gave it to Kelly. He climbed the airplane, leveled off with the afterburners, and accelerated it to Mach 1.4. That was the first time he had ever been supersonic, and he was delighted😊

George’s first American visit, part 2 —

“When the trio [George, his brother Peter, and sister Lou] arrived, they were informed that Marcia [Raubach] had already gone home for the day. At the station were Art Smith, an advertising salesman, and Joe Browning, the weekend announcer. Smith remembers George Harrison as being ‘a very nice fellow,’ and Browning agreed. But Browning added, ‘I thought he needed to get a haircut.’ […] When [Marcia] arrived [back] at the station, [she] recalls, [George] was very excited about the car she was driving. It was her father’s black 1959 Oldsmobile Delta 88 with tail fins. ‘He really looked it over; he asked me if it was my car,’ she said. ‘I told him no, but he was really impressed with it. He was impressed with a lot of things.’ Marcia recalls [George] as being ‘very, very clean cut,’ wearing a white shirt, jeans and brown sandals. […] Raubach said she found the young British musician to be ‘really soft-spoken and almost hesitant to ask me questions.’” - Before He Was Fab: George Harrison’s First American Visit (2000) “George told Marcia that he was an apprentice electrician, but that the Beatles were really taking off back home. ‘He really liked my dad’s Oldsmobile Delta 88,’ Marcia recalls. On her radio show that day she played ‘From Me To You’ and ‘She Loves You,’ but it’s her recollection that the songs made little impression on her listening audience. George gave her a copy of ‘She Loves You,’ which she keeps in a safe deposit box at the bank. ‘I wish I’d have asked him to autograph it,’ she says. Marilyn Lewis, who also interviewed George, for the Echo, the Benton Community High School newspaper, says she did it ‘mainly as a favor to Louise.’ […] George told her that so many fans mobbed his band at one appearance that they had to be smuggled into the venue in a garbage truck, but Marilyn wasn’t overly impressed. Thank you for your concern! My carpal tunnel has been approving somewhat these last few weeks! Hopefully I'll be able to find some free time this weekend while I'm off to knock down some of this list.

Also if you do happen to send in an idea similar to someone else's; don't worry too much about it because I don't mind, I like the challenge~ Duplicates give me the opportunity to try out different ideas that I may have for a single plot/theme.

Btw sorry about not really posting anything these last few weeks... I kinda forgot to pay my wifi bill so I didn't really have internet for awhile until I got paid again... Anyways—

AF-12s (YF-12) were flying tests at Area 51 when, on Jan 29, 1964, President Johnson announced their existence in a carefully prepared statement with a prior agreement with Kelly Johnson had approved. The President intentionally identified the aircraft as the A-11. There was no A-11, but there certainly was an A-12, which was kept secret at Area 51..

The President described the A-11 as an experimental aircraft tested in sustained flight at more than 2000 mph at altitudes of over 70,000 feet; there was no mention of Area 51.

In fact, the President explicitly stated that the aircraft was being tested at Edwards Air Force Base, California.

That was not true, so in order to back up the President's claim, Lou Schalk and Bill Park quickly flew two AF 12s from Area 51 to Edwards.

The press was waiting at the Air Force Base when they flew in and quickly ducked inside two hangars. The heat of the two AF-12s, later to be called YF 12s, started off the sprinkler systems and, thoroughly washing both of the experimental airframes. Their hopes for discreetly establishing the birds in their new nest were dashed when the heat of the plane set off blaring alarms that summoned the base fire department.

Kelly Johnson, THE HEAD SKUNK and Vice President of the Skunk Works was there watching this all play out.

Kelly’s only remark was “At least we got a free wash job.” 😄
