okay. so. so. I'm watching merlin (around S1 ep. 6 or something) and just

the historically accurate shit is thrilling me

because, yeah, some of the clothes might not have been worn in the twelfth century England but the show was written off legends so suck it up

because everything else is staged so well (the architecture and the food (and I mean it because they eat wild birds and cheeses and bread - stuff people actually ate at these times) especially the clothing and just simple things they used: the plates, for example) it makes me believe that could have happened

because the recent media of medieval fantasy doesn't have that

and, yes, I do fully understand that this all were legends and the new media is also fantasy, and that's why it's not realistic (and it's a fair point) but I see more and more of things narrowing down to 'fighting and family issues' in pieces of media (it also supplies with 'in between fighting and family drama, which is usually some other relationships or/and plot-related discoveries) but merlin has little of fighting

don't get me wrong, they fight every other episode and people get killed, and there is a conflict between Arthur and Uther, but it is not all of it

they have stuff like a knight tournament but it is only one episode, stuff like 'oh fuck people die in packs and huh what to do'; and abd stuff like peace treaties between kingdoms being ruined and then 'oopsies' and some not-very-noble-born-but-really-want-to-be-a-knight-please-please-please and merlin running around with errands and their bickering with Arthur because it was almost never fighting

yes, wars were fought but it was not the main point of the day in those days

but the recent media somehow forgets that

The fanmade idea that Hiccup is some kind of all benevolent and understanding dragon whisperer in the series is odd to me bc like. He's so not. He trapped the skrill in a glacier then essentially did it again years later with that deathsong (yes both ended up being freed but still), isn't able to train certain dragons (despite it very likely being possible. Smh so stubborn except for when he's a fucking quitter) and he killed the red death and fully intended to kill toothless when he initially found him. like idk its funny I think
