i definitely understand the difficulty of translating designs for anime characters into impressive physical fashion pieces, though, because there's a difference in like priority there, when designing for anime or manga you don't want to make something that will be too agonizing to draw over and over again, but when you're creating an irl piece (esp for lolita fashion) more details tend to improve it. so i'm a bit forgiving about some of the less impressive aspects of those outfits, if only because i adore the novelty of shiki clothes like that being out there at all. i keep a close ass eye on japanese resale sites for that shit, even if i couldn't find one that fit me i'd love to just hang it up on my wall or smth

Thanks to LovelyLor for starting another round of "Jirai is just the name of the frilly fashion style" and "Dark Girly is a white washed term made up by westerners" discourse.

Thank God I barely started looking at Instagram again. I found out through LovelyLor's story that Kung Fu Tea was doing a collab with Nintendo for Princess Peach: Showtime!!

As much as I like the clothes and such and all the neat outfits you can make on Fashion Dreamer, the game feels rather lacking as...a game, in general.
You tend to do the same things a lot and don't really get to connect with people too much on it (which is ironic cuz apparently according to the developers, connecting with people was the point of the game). It just feels...empty. and I think I realized why.
It feels like a slightly more interactive version of social media.
I mean, most of what you do is like and follow, and as LovelyLor said in her video about the game, there's such a big focus on followers and even one of the first things that hovers over other players' heads is their follow count.
And, as someone who tries to post on social media but struggles due to how discouraging it can be, being fixated on likes and follows is like. One of the worst aspects of social media.
I think it doesn't help that unlike Style Savvy, it doesn't feel like there's any sort of challenge to it, so just like mindlessly scrolling through social media, you end up in this drone state as you do the same things, over and over. And it gets rather bland.
I think if they wanted to make a game about fashion, it could have been cool to, like in Style Savvy, have characters you build relationships with, have some more stakes - make it feel like you're actually progressing somehow and hell - maybe even have a thing with the NPCs or something where you learn why their specific fashion styles are so important to them, emphasizing the connection of fashion to self-expression...or something like that.

Yippie! Lolita fashion discourse! SO, I’ve been actively (wearing the fashion) and inactively (following from the sidelines) involved in the fashion for the past 15 or so years and i think that somewhat qualifies me on speaking on the matter: Etymologically, yes, “Lolita” fashion was very likely coined after Nabokov’s book of the same name. However, whether or not the people back in the (however loosely you wanna take it) late 70s, 80s, 90s, adopting the name did so purposefully or because it sounded cute we simply do not know. It’s very possible that people at the time gave it that subversive name on purpose— gothic lolita back in the day very much evoked a broken doll sort of vibe which I think is in line with the eponymous character. And if you read the book, you’ll realize that it in no way glorifies CSA— Humbert is a highly unreliable narrator and while yes, from his perspective, it’s all flowery, the actual recounted effects on Dolores (Lolita) herself are not. That being said, I think by now it’s linguistically closer to being a synonym, just like “bank” (money) and “bank” (shore) have a shared origin, we don’t look at a riverbank and leave our money there. Lolita fashion is primarily FOR young women which is its appeal for many: it’s pretty, cute and over the top and it’s removed from the concept of trying to appeal to a male viewer which is an extremely refreshing and liberating experience. Youtuber LovelyLor has talked about this many many times and to anyone interested I recommend the video titled “Lolita fashion has nothing to do with “the book” or films”. She touches on the etymology as well and accepts it but also highlights that it’s simply not related anymore, except maybe in the farthest sense.

I decided to try out Lolita and I actually really like it. I got this dress from BodyLine, which sells real Lolita rather than costume. So it feels actually comfortable to wear.
Thank you to @/LovelyLor on Instagram for the resources. 🥰

imagine, if you will: floyd in yellow british bear, but he somehow makes it into a punk coord. and it?? works????
YES. I just know he hears about a dress that everyone hates and it's his favorite.
Tumblr media
I'm pretty sure there was a coord shown in a LovelyLor video that was a punk british bear outfit too, so I took a little inspo from my memory of that.
