I can’t believe you turn three this year! It’s still almost half a year away, but it’s still closer than ever. You are such a little sweetheart stink bug. Your new thing is to freeze us so you can do something sneaky, which is kind of nice because it clues us into you doing something shady.

Example: Earlier today, we split a half of a bueno bar - 2 little chocolate squares each. You love chocolate. I love chocolate. We love to have little bits of chocolate throughout the day, and you’re actually eating pretty well lately so I have no issues with this. You are washing lightning McQueen and mater in your lovevery sink on the island because they got dirty at the sand pit today and you very sweetly and politely say “please i can have more chocolate mama?” And so of course I’m like, okay, yes. We can both have one more piece. So we each have a single shell from this chocolate box Santa brought me. THEN, like 5 minutes later after we are playing a totally different game and are in the living room and you see “You’re frozen, mama!” And so i look over and you are walking straight to the candy drawer where all the chocolate shells are! So I say HEY! You little sneaky, sneaker! And I run over and scoop you up - because making you laugh is the best way to distract from the fact that we are not having more chocolate right now - and I take you downstairs to tell dada about your sneak-scapades.

Like 20-30 min later you said I was frozen so you could hit the palm tree plant with your sticky hand. You haven’t learned yet that if you didn’t try to freeze us, we would never know you were up to something, and hopefully you don’t learn that for a while long.

Last night during dinner, you walked back to our bedroom. Not unusual because you’ve loved dumping out your rock and seashell treasures on our bed and you like to turn the lamps on and off. But, when I called out “what are you doing, Declan?” And you replied with “mama, dada, you’re frozen!” Dada immediately jumped into action to see what trouble was in the making. You were actually in the bathroom and had an accident back there because learning to poop on the potty is really hard, so you freezing us was your distraction so you could go to the bathroom in peace!

You’ve just been extra delightful lately, and it’s so fun to watch you play and grow.

Pa is officially retired now, so sometimes he just comes over on a random Tuesday to look at the dinosaur detective book. When the weather is nicer, I’m sure we’ll spend more time doing outdoor adventures.

Christmas updates:

Santa brought you a marble run and a new tricycle! We got you some new books, a Yoto player, the trash truck game you really wanted from target, little people market, beads, a bluey tree house, and a zoo membership. In other words, we got you way too many things. After you opened like 2 wrapped presents, you were basically done. You didn’t finish opening presents until last weekend (new year’s eve!) I guess between Santa and what we picked out, you just had enough to play with.

Auntie Koko got you a doctor playset and an ice cream counter

Granny and Pa got you a bluey trash truck and a drum set and some clothes

Deedee and pop got you a yo-yo and a kaleidoscope and a lightning McQueen Dino track that you LOVE. I think they actually got you something else, but I’m kind of blanking on what it was right now.

You live in your pjs and love feeling cozy with soft blankets. So far we have read like 189 books for the 1,000 books before kindergarten challenge, and most of the books on the floor in that picture are from the library. You also LOVE the cats. You are so delighted when they come up to you for pets or you can sit next to them.
