It's a time travel au where Lan Qiren ends up in his early adulthood and tries to fix everything by seducing Wen Ruohan. Also, it may or may not serve a greater good - WangXian shutting the fuck up, because LQR can't sleep at night bc of them!

It's excellent. The humor is peak, the plot is great, even a little bit of smut as a treat, tho it's not problem at all to skip it if that's what you like. 121,456 words long, the whole parents generation get an appearance.

Mostly cql setting, but even I - the novel and donghua is my thing, drama not really - was enjoying it.

It's also an epic journey of Lan Qiren's goatee.

Okay but time travel fix it au in which Lan Qiren is the one transported into the past, right before lessons start at the CR

This could go two ways

1. The comedic route, in which LQR decides to pair up his nephew with WWX himself bc it might as well just happen, he's too old not to know when a pair is fated and knows it's unavoidable. Surprisingly enough, this fixes a lot of bullshit in the process and LQR begrudgingly admits that maybe WWX is not that bad. Maybe.

2. The angst route, in which LQR ensures WWX never meets LWJ, LQR finds some reason to send him away early and hopes he can at least save LWJ from the pain and heartbreak of his rebellion and subsequent punishment.

He doesn't, and things become a lot more complicated in a lot of new and unexpected fucked up ways. A lot more people die when they shouldn't. And suddenly LQR is faced with having to invent demonic cultivation himself since WRH had him thrown into the Burial Mounds after he was taken prisoner.

Very surprisingly for him, someone's already waiting for him there. Looks like he's not the only time traveller after all.

Could I just share some of my time travel “fix it” pet peeves? Here it goes: 1. All trauma in the past is ignored and does not influence any decision in the new timeline. 2. Every problem the Jiang have is resolved if WWX never enters the sect or JFM tells the truth to YZN, declaring his love 3. LQR will be the perfect Lan if WWX keeps quiet about his ideas and behaves in class. 4. WWX talks how every tragedy before, during and after the war is his fault and he has the obligation to fix it

Hello! So sorry for the late answer, life's been a chaotic dumpster fire.

And yeah, those are like... everything that I hate about time travel AUs. For me, specifically, I can be convinced about the trauma not affecting him in the new timeline, as WWX is rather good at leaving the past in the past. However, I do agree that all the ways his relationships developed would undoubtedly change with his knowledge of the past life. So while trauma would remain and affect WWX, I don't see him basing that on every decision he makes in the past. And I suppose it would also depend on what time from the future he was traveling from. If he time traveled right after Nightless City or the Siege or him falling into the burial mounds, it would be vastly different from if he time traveled while in the BMs with the Wens, or after Qiongqi path.

JFM and YZY reconciling is a fucking fever dream. YZY is an abusive woman who made Lotus Pier into a toxic household, and short of her dying, I really can't see any fix for it. (She's dead in almost all of my fic ideas - time travel AU or otherwise - for this precise reason.)

LQR had it out for WWX because he held a petty grudge against CSSR. Even in canon, he is very pointedly looking for a reason to reprimand WWX. WWX realizes this, and that is why he very purposefully antagonizes him and gets kicked out of class. So yeah, him having a miracle transformation is unlikely at best.

As for the war, I can see WWX preparing against it and taking active steps to win it, but I believe it would come from his morality and his wish to save the people who died last time, rather than any guilt or regret. He would do the right thing, as he always has.

A time travel AU pet peeve of mine is WWX choosing to time travel post-canon, when he is finally at peace and married and happy. Like. No. He would not.

Sometimes! I used to respond to every single comment I got when I first started posting, but then I just got really overwhelmed and had to stop, and I've never picked up the habit again. If I feel particularly strongly about a comment or have something specific to say I'll try to respond, but otherwise I bask in them all silently (sorry, and I love y'all, I really do read every single comment I swear).

The Shadow's Call - An extremely depressed Lan Xichen is violently dragged out of his seclusion in the Hanshi 8 years post-canon by fierce corpse NieYao, who definitely aren't sentient at all but still somehow feel incomplete without their third.

What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

Aside from The Shadow's Call all of my fics end happily!! I just can't do the depressing ones most of the time 😅 I think some of my favorite happy endings for various reasons, though, are The Sculptor, After Each Midnight Begins A New Day, anything in the Orville Peck Cinematic Universe, and anything from the 90's Strip Mall AU, Tales From Jianghu Shopping Center. (Everything in the last two especially is just pure feel-good fluff, not only the endings haha)

I do! I don't know what kind though 😅 the smutty kind? I don't really delve too deeply into kink or BDSM, and I don't write omegaverse or tentacles or anything all that creative; I just write what I would consider bog standard 'I'm ace and I understand people like doing this, I really hope the allos find this enjoyable to read' kind of smut. (Usually for me it's more about the emotional impact/character development use of it rather than the porn-y-ness of it, if that helps??)

What's a wip you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

Plans To Make - In an ideal world I would finish this soon so I can stop being eaten up with low-simmering guilt about it (along with several other projects, let's be real), but the fact of the matter is that I never actually wanted to write the full fix-it for this universe in the first place. I started Lan Xichen's introduction into this universe after the fix-it has already happened partially because I find that dynamic of a depressed Lan Xichen suddenly partnered with a happily married NieYao really interesting, but also because I don't like all the tangled threads of a universe-wide fix-it and I knew I'd get way too bogged down in details to really enjoy it. That's exactly what's happened, and that's partially why the fic has been sitting so long without an update. I do really want to finish it one day, though.

What are your writing strengths?

I occasionally get comments praising my characterization/character voices, so hopefully that's one. I also like to think that I do a decent job with accurately communicating both relatable and not-quite-as-relatable experiences - queerness of various flavors, neurodivergence, strangely specific life experiences...I usually try to write what I know, and I'm always happy when it resonates with people in the ways that I'd hoped for while writing them.

What are your writing weaknesses?

I feel like I can get sooo long-winded, and I'm also kind of bad for setting up plotty bits in my longer fics that I never actually follow through on.

Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

The furthest I'll go is honorifics that I'm confident with using, I absolutely do not trust myself or any online translator to attempt whole lines of dialogue.

in search of silver linings (we discovered gold) had me gleefully planning out each chapter and plot point, since it was with a different WRH and LQR that I wasn't used to writing. I really liked the idea of LQR unintentionally getting WRH to open up a little, just by being himself.

Throne of Bones is a LMK AU created by @xynnoix , and they gave me the lovely permission to write for it! I loved the idea where SWK was controlled early in canon, and Macaque really ended up as a vessel for LBD. I also really liked where the plotline was heading. Please do check the creator out, by the way, they have made such a great AU and have art out for it!

what we choose currently has me by the throat. I am desperately smashing keys into the WIP, and Jing Yuan really has me excited to lead people on, as well as who Dan Heng is. I am completely enthralled with the idea of time travel and an outsider's perspective while it's happening, and I really love all the theories people are coming up with in the comments.

to love was one of the first fics I thought of when reading Genshin Impact fics and settling into Xiao/Zhongli. The alternate title was "the slowburn fuck or die AU" and I really liked the idea of these two slowly falling in love while solving Xiao's karmic debt. The role reversal of them was just a bonus, and I enjoyed exploring their reversed dynamic as a result.

(i) trust you was a TCF fuck or die AU of Cale/Eruhaben and I will not lie to you, I wrote it out of spite. I was really, really tired of the "Eruhaben being a possessive person in general, and Cale not noticing it" thing. So I just went "screw that" and immediately wrote this as a result. It is mutual trust and respect that got me writing this fic, too, and I think I wanted to write a smut part. I did not. Maybe one day.

“What are you still doing here?” Lan Qiren scolded, getting his hands under the child that had been sitting in the middle of a room, absent-mindedly looking at a wall, and trying to get him to stand. “Didn’t your elders tell you to run?”

The child blinked, long and slow, which suggested he could hear what Lan Qiren was saying, but his legs remained limp and boneless. That didn’t mean there was anything necessarily wrong with his body, or even that he was engaging in a fit of childish rebellion; it could simply be that he was locked away somewhere in his own mind, unable to respond.

It wouldn’t be unreasonable, given that the house around him was filled with death, stinking with the smell of blood from the murdered retainers. There had been plenty dead already even before Lan Qiren had arrived, and now there were even more…he hadn’t expected to see a child here.

The boy was no more than five or six, perhaps seven if he were small for his age. He was wearing the clothing that signified a member of the Wen clan – a gaudy piece of nonsense that resembled the fashion for imperial princes and looked dreadfully uncomfortable. Lan Qiren hated to credit Wen Ruohan with anything, that awful tyrant that had brought death and destruction to the Cloud Recesses, but at least he had never put his family in something like this.

Of course, that could be simply the fashion of the time.

The time…

Lan Qiren mentally cursed once more whatever it was that had sent him back in time. He still didn’t know the cause, didn’t know how to fix it, didn’t know if he could return to his own time – all he knew was that he was trapped here, here in this hellish time period in the past, an era of war and bloodshed that was so casually passed over in the Lan sect histories, never avoided but also only barely mentioned.

Though…he supposed he knew now why that was.

He wouldn’t want to have attention paid to this period either.

His family…!

“You mustn’t stay here,” Lan Qiren said, trying once more to lift the child without any luck. Why were children of this age so slippery when they weren’t helping? “You’re wearing clothing of the Wen clan, which makes you the primary target for the slaughter. We’re at war, don’t you understand? You must go!”

The boy blinked again, and finally opened his mouth: “Gege said to stay here.”

“What?!” Lan Qiren must have heard wrong. Surely no one would actually order someone to stay in the wake of an invading army, wearing the clothing of a target. “Impossible!”

“He said I should stay,” the boy said peaceably, legs dangling below him. “I have to stay, so that they can go…gege said only the strongest have the right to survive, and that meant him, jiejie, and – and Mother.”

Lan Qiren’s breath caught in his throat.

He’d been assuming that the boy was some servant’s son put into fancy dress in a cold-hearted fit of inspiration, left behind to distract the invaders. That was already monstrous enough! But if what the boy said was right, and Lan Qiren had no reason to doubt him, then what they had done was far worse than that: they had deliberately left behind one of their own blood here, a sacrifice to feed the ravening, ravaging army that approached while they made their escape.

But no, what the boy said accorded with what Lan Qiren had heard himself the day before, the estimate that this particular compound contained three Wen sect heirs, two boys and a girl, as well as a formal wife and some concubines, the latter of which he had seen already mostly dead – whether some or any of the children were children of the wife or the concubine was impossible to know, in this time of war and chaos, but in any event this boy must be the younger boy, and the older boy and the girl, along with the formal wife, were the ones who had run away and left him behind.

The Wen sect leader of this time was said to fancy himself a tyrant emperor and had accordingly collected a positive bevy of wives and concubines, whether willingly or not, like some grotesque combination of the worst parts of Wen Ruohan and Jin Guangshan put together, so he certainly had enough children to spare. But surely, even then – even then – to leave one of the Wen clan here, where anyone could get at him, where there was an entire battle squadron yearning to shed his blood, however innocent –

Innocent –

None of them are innocent.

Lan Qiren felt a tremor run through him, and his persistent headache, never truly gone any more, threatened to get worse, his temples throbbing.

It was that damn song.

Upon finding himself back in the storied past, unsure of when exactly he was, Lan Qiren had tried to return to the Cloud Recesses, his instinct to retreat home as strong as any migrating bird. He hadn’t made it – he hadn’t even gotten close, even. Instead he had gotten picked up part of the way through by one of the battle squadrons, one of the soldiers having recognized his forehead ribbon and particular way of carrying himself and assumed he was an outer sect Lan disciple that had gotten lost, some distant cousin of the main sect that was just barely permitted to wear a forehead ribbon marked with clouds but not close enough to be known by name.

They’d assumed that he was one of them, marching under their flag – a soldier. An invader.

And he was, he supposed. For it was true, was it not, that he was in fact a Lan?

(At the time, he had been dumbfounded by what they had said. He’d thought to himself: This is surely impossible. My Lan sect, my Lan sect that values justice and chivalry and human life above all, fielding battle squadrons? It’s one thing to gather our people to fight when there is something to defend against, such as in the Sunshot Campaign, but these squadrons are not that; they are on the offensive, not the defensive. Something must be wrong, I must be understanding; it is simply too ridiculous to contemplate, we wouldn’t do that –

He’d been deceiving himself, of course.)

The other soldiers, each and every one of them a Lan or someone who’d sworn to their sect, had taken him back to their camp. They had given him an outer disciple’s clothing to change into, let him eat and drink and rest his fill, sympathetic to his obvious plight, and then in the morning they had taken him to listen to their sect leader play that song.

Lan Qiren was like all of his kin, rigid and rule-bound on the outside but with a fervent heart beneath his breast, full of wild and riotous feelings, and when he heard the Lan sect leader of the time play, he felt as though he were feeling every one of them at once. Every bit of sadness he’d experienced in his whole life, every betrayal, every frustration, every irritation, every rage…he’d felt all of them, every one, magnified a hundred times, a thousand times, and all the while, backing each emotion like a drumbeat underlying the melody, there was a whisper.

It’s their fault it’s their fault it’s Their Fault It’s THEIR FAULT –

Lan Qiren had caught a brief glimpse of himself in a stagnant pool later. He’d been scarlet-eyed, positively demonic in his rage, his sword glinting in the light as he wielded it with all the skill he’d possessed against the enemies of his Lan clan, of his Lan sect, his family. He hadn’t known nor cared why the people ahead of him were his enemies; he had not been able to stop himself. He’d been besieged by emotion, awash in it, drowning in it, as mindless as any beast and yet in full possession of his logical facilities, able to calculate the best ways to fight despite not being able to think. The only thought in his head had been the deafening refrain of how dare you hurt me like you have, how dare you take them away from me, how dare you…

It has been for his family that he had fought: not the Lan sect of his present day, but the Lan sect of his time, the men and women who had died under Wen blades amidst the flames of the burning Cloud Recesses, the ones who had faltered in the Sunshot Campaign, the ones who had been ground down before and after. His father, his brother, his nephews, even that annoying Wei Wuxian who had in the end married in after causing so much strife…he’d fought for them.

But the people he fought against weren’t the ones he should be fighting. He knew, distantly, that the Wen sect he was tearing through now were not the Wen sect he had fought in just battle in his day; he knew that the war ongoing now was not his own.

It just…hadn’t mattered.

Couldn’t matter.

Even now, days after his last infusion of the song – it was performed weekly as a measure of raising morale, or at least that was the official line, when in fact Lan Qiren knew that the insidious tune was designed instead to keep their rage alight – even after so long, the mere knowledge that this boy in front of him, this innocent boy, was a true-blooded Wen was making Lan Qiren’s bloodlust instinctively rise up inside of him.

He wanted to kill him. He saw in this child’s face the face of the future tyrant Wen Ruohan, saw that cruel smirk as he ordered the destruction of so much of what Lan Qiren loved, and he wanted – he needed – killing him would be a virtue, not a fault, surely, and so what if the boy was young, innocent, helpless, surely it didn’t matter in the face of all his rage and pain –

Do not fall to evil.

Lan Qiren pulled back to himself with a ragged gasp, then took several steadying breaths.

“That is wrong,” he said, voice stiffer than it had ever been. “Your brother is wrong. The rules say: Do not bully the weak. Love all beings. Human life is the highest virtue. That your brother is the strong one now, and you the weak one, does not mean it will always be that way, and even if it was, it doesn’t change the fact that your life has value. You have as much right to survive as any other.”

The boy frowned, but his legs finally straightened from limp noodles into something capable of bearing his weight. He might not have been convinced, but he was at least willing to try to live.

Try, of course, because he was a Wen, he was being hunted…

“What’s your name?” Lan Qiren asked, and the boy’s eyes narrowed – in thought, rather than suspicion. He was trying to answer the question; he was clearly a good boy at heart, obedient and helpful, trusting despite having been betrayed. It was only that his reactions were all painfully slow, undoubtedly the result of trauma. Perhaps a simpler approach was called for. “What do people call you?”

“…Han-er.”

That was somewhat passing strange, since Lan Qiren had understood that the Wen sect of the current era, in almost exact opposite of the Wen sect of his own time, gave their children two-syllable courtesy names more or less from birth, similar to the Nie sect. Perhaps the intimate little nickname was the only thing the boy could remember – trauma was said to cause amnesia, sometimes.

Well, it wasn’t really important.

“I’ll call you A-Han,” Lan Qiren said, thinking to himself that the Wen sect of his day traditionally used endearments the way the Lan sect did, the way Lan Qiren called his nephew A-Zhan rather than Zhan-er. Perhaps the boy’s mother had been from another region, or perhaps Wen Ruohan had changed it, later.

He tugged off the boy’s Wen sect overcoat, then looked at him – but no, he still saw Wen Ruohan’s face in his, those Wen sect features that had caused him so much grief; it wouldn’t be enough.

Just that won’t be enough, he thought, not enough to save him, and so, with a wince and a reminder to himself that human life was the highest virtue, he tore his own forehead ribbon in two and wrapped the second half around the boy’s head.

“You’re my student, all right?” he barked at the boy. “My student, A-Han, and nothing else. Nothing else. No surname, nothing. Do you understand?”

The boy looked more blank than anything else.

Lan Qiren heard shouting from the distance, and knew that his limited advantage – he had rushed ahead, his higher cultivation helping him leave everyone behind – was soon to be up. Soon enough the rest of his squadron would catch up to him. They would find him here in the dust and the blood, looking at a room full of murdered Wen sect guards – some of whom had fallen at Lan Qiren’s sword, some of whom had already been dead, murdered by their peers after their ears had been infected by Lan sect songs of madness and disarray –

They would find him with a boy that could only by the barest stretch of imagination pass as a Lan.

Lan Qiren was going to have to sell this to the fullest extent of his ability. He might even have to lie.

Do not tell lies.

Human life is the highest virtue.

He grit his teeth together.

Fine, then. He’d lie, if that was what it took. He was not going to let this boy die for no reason than his family’s selfishness – that was something even more fundamental to his soul than his hatred of the Wen, a wound of his own history. He would do whatever it took to save him.

“You understand?” he asked again. “Do you understand?”

Finally, finally, the boy nodded. “I’m your student,” he finally said, echoing what Lan Qiren said perfectly, even mimicking to a certain degree his peculiar toneless intonation. “Your student, A-Han.”

“Good. Speak meagerly, for too many words only bring harm – you still have an accent, a little. Try not to speak at all if you can avoid it. I will explain everything to my kinsmen.”

He scooped A-Han into his arms and stood once more.

Perhaps there were some of the Wen sect that deserved the horrors his clan was bringing forth – Lan Qiren was only rated as an outer sect disciple at present, given his lack of credentials, and had not managed to hear the exact details of what exactly had started this dreadful war, though if he continued to excel on the battlefield he might find himself promoted soon, a distasteful thought – but this boy did not.

Lan Qiren would take him to safety, hiding him in the most unsafe of places, the most dangerous place the safest one. He would carry him through the Lan sect’s own camp until they reached some border where the Wen sect’s forces still held strong, and he would let him go there, hopefully. It would be tricky and difficult to pull off, but he had no choice; it was the only righteous path before him, and the rules said take the straight path. They said perform acts of chivalry. They said have courage, have courtesy, have integrity.

Lan Qiren would live up to his sect’s rules, even if the rest of his sect had temporarily forgotten them.

A-Han curled up into his arms. “It’s all right,” Lan Qiren said as fiercely as he knew how. “You will be safe with me. I swear it.”

When one of Wang Sisi’s clients decided to take her on as a concubine, she was not quite as overjoyed as another woman might have been in her position.

Sisi is thirty-two years old, and she entered the Yunping brothel when she was barely twenty. In the twelve years since, she has heard all kinds of broken promises and witnessed innumerable cruelties, and she knows enough about the life of a minor wife to know that she doesn’t have it too badly in comparison. Sisi has never caught the wasting illnesses that make their rounds in brothels often, or had to entertain a violent client, and she has never had a child; but after entering Merchant Yao’s household, any one of those things might end up happening to her.

Yao-daren would keep frequenting brothels, and unlike when she was a prostitute, she wouldn’t be able to refuse him. She would have no way to defend herself if he beat her, and if he ever discovered the tinctures she drinks to prevent pregnancy, he would have every right to take them from her.

Those miserable truths accompanied her all the way down the alley she was dragged into five minutes ago, and echoed in her head like drumbeats as the thugs blocking her escape—hired by Yao-daren’s wife, no doubt—announced their intention to beat her to a pulp.

Merchant Yao will have nothing to do with me after this, she thinks, as the men raise their wooden clubs over her head.

And then, briefly: Good.

Sisi closes her eyes, having clawed and fought and struggled against them to the very last of her strength. But then someone’s hand is on her arm, yanking her up out of the mud as four still figures drop neatly to the ground by her feet, unconscious. One is bleeding from a deep wound to the shoulder, and Sisi snatches her toes back before the blood can stain her silk slippers.

She stares.

What in the world…?

“Gongzi?” she asks, as the—boy? man? who saved her wipes his sword and resheathes it. “What are you—”

“Fiends,” the white-clad cultivator sneers. “No matter, I’ll deal with them later. Lady, where were you going? I will escort you there, if that would not inconvenience you.”

“I was going to the cosmetics shop two streets away,” Sisi answers. Madam Yun's emporium is in full view of Yunping’s main square, which means that she will be relatively safe even if this bloodthirsty cultivator tries anything on the way. “After I finish my business there, I will be returning home.”

The cultivator frowns, staring deep into her eyes as if he recognized her from somewhere. But Sisi has known hundreds of handsome men in her day, and this one is far too gorgeous to forget, even if she had only seen him in passing.

“Where is home, guniang?”

“Guniang? Can’t you see how old I am?” Sisi says tartly. “I live at the Chrysanthemum House in the middle of town, xiao-gongzi. Now, either see me to the rouge shop or go away.”

“Chrysanthemum House, eh?” the cultivator grumbles. “It’s just as I thought. Your lover’s wife sent those thugs to scar your face, didn’t she?”

“I guess so. It happens often, when a man decides he wants another woman in his house.”

“Mm. By any chance, would you happen to know a lady called Meng Shi?”

“A-Shi?” Sisi looks over the man's rich robes and the mutton-fat yaopei hanging from his waist; she can gauge the quality of most jade pieces at a glance, and this yaopei is made of the finest jade Sisi has ever seen. The cultivator is even wearing white jade in his hair, set into a bright silver comb that glints under the afternoon sun like a mirror, and her spirits sink even further as she realizes who this man must be.

A-Shi always said her A-Yao's father was a wealthy cultivator, and it seems that she hadn't been taken for a fool after all.

"You've come to buy A-Shi's freedom, then?" she demands, trying not to sound too grim about it. "Meng Shi? You're sure?"

"En, Meng Shi. If her son is bound here as a servant, I will buy his freedom as well. Will you show me the way, Lady?"

Sisi does, with her heart in her mouth, praying to every god she knows to keep Meng Shi safe.

“I want to buy this woman's freedom," Lan Qiren declared, the moment Sisi led him to the Chrysanthemum House. "Where are the contracts for Meng Shi and Madam Sisi? If anyone else has offered to buy them out, I will match the price tenfold."

"Qiren!" his brother shrieked, bursting through the open door on Yinshui. "Didi, what are you—"

He stared at the gold pieces in Lan Qiren's palm, and grabbed the nearest cabinet for support.

"A-Ren?" Lan Haijing wheezed. "Did—did you just—"

"En. Once matters are settled here, I will bring them back to the Cloud Recesses."

"What?" Sisi screamed. "I don't even know this young master!"

"No," Meng Shi wailed. "He's not A-Yao's father, and if I leave now—"

Lan Qiren handed the money over.

The madam stamped the two women's contracts and passed them to Sisi.

Qingheng-jun fainted.

Wei Wuxian has enough of getting whipped for no valid reason and starts standing up for himself (not just verbally, and especially NOT just talking back while still accepting punishment) but by attacking back or some other form of brutal revenge. 

a modern AU where jiang yanli and/or jiang cheng cut off contact with their parents for their treatment, anything where they put themselves and their brother above their abusive parents

Lan Zhan does not accept his punishment and kills(or at least successfully fights off) any elder that attempts to whip him. 

Lan Zhan or Lan Xichen destroys the wall of rules and makes the sect more friendly for all

someone invents democracy and various sect leaders are voted out - can be crack or serious

A loudly braying donkey.

A surprisingly even louder Lan Jingyi, wrangling said donkey while making a valiant yet futile effort to avoid swearwords – both of which Lan Qiren intends to reprimand him for as soon as his life returns to some semblance of sanity.

The entire fact that said donkey requires wrangling in the first place due to the ill-advised end-goal being to transport the animal via sword.

The fact that this means that Lan Qiren is left to wrangle the demonic-cultivating, donkey-owning, exonerated menace of the entire cultivation world in general and Lan Qiren’s existence in particular, Wei Wuxian.

Yes, this is all Wei Wuxian’s fault.

Or: Wei Wuxian is injured on a night hunt, and Lan Qiren is stuck having to deal with it.

Some good mistakes by Lise

But it's so hard to filter through ao3 when you're not looking for a specific pairing, or fics without any main relationship at all. Some way or another, post-canon Lan Qiren time travels to before the Cloud Recesses lectures. The Cloud Recesses are quiet and peaceful, something his home hasn't been in years.

...In fact, it is too quiet and peaceful.

He decides to do his lonely younger nephew a favor (and himself, but that part he won't admit to) and gift him his future husband early. It does not matter that they have not met yet - he knows how their story goes, and if he can save Wangji over a decade of suffering, then by gods he will do it. If Lan Qiren himself gets a very inventive, engaging and intelligent research partner cum nephew-in-law earlier, all the better.

If he gets a grandchild early, or - heavens, what joy it would be! - a few grandchildren, then he will not complain, certainly. So he informs those who need to know that he will be unavailable for a day or two - he does not foresee any complications that would warrant a longer absence - and leaves for Lotus Pier.

He arrives within a few hours to a warm if surprised welcome by the Jiang Sect Leader. The Madam is thankfully absent, having left two days earlier on some nighthunt or other. No matter; the less he sees of her, the better, and it is certainly not a matter that concerns her. During the light conversation with the sect leader he suggests that since he is already there, he would like to see the Jiang disciples train; supposedly to measure their level to be able to better adjust his teaching, as the lectures are scheduled to happen in the next few months.

He's never done any such thing before - indeed, it is simply a pretense. Jiang Fengmian is confounded but as always willing to accommodate and leads Lan Qiren to the training grounds. There, he is met with a cacophony only a gaggle of teenagers can produce. He searches and finds whom he needs shortly - right in the middle, the loudest of them all - Wei Wuxian.

Suddenly, Lan Qiren feels stumped. He has found Wei Wuxian, but certainly there are too many witnesses. While he may be fast enough for any of the young disciples, Jiang Fengmian is right beside him. He needs him gone, but how?

Fate must agree with him that Wei Wuxian will be better off living - thriving - in the Lan Clan, as at that very moment one of the littlest disciples trips over a leg of a fellow disciple, who has been laying on the pier, and falls into the lake. Thankfully he surfaces easily, but as he is helped back on land it is clear that he must have sprained his ankle. The poor disciple starts crying, stretching his arms towards the safest figure there - Jiang Fengmian.

The Sect Leader apologizes profusely - Lan Qiren claims it is no trouble just as profusely - and leaves with the child in his arms in the direction of what must be the healing pavilion.

The Jiang Sect Leader is gone. The young disciples are in disarray, concerned over their younger shidi. Wei Wuxian looks worriedly in the direction Jiang Fengmian and the unlucky disciple left to. This is Lan Qiren's chance.

He draws close to Wei Wuxian in quick strides and draws his sword before the Head Disciple can do more than open his eyes wide in surprise. Two seconds after, Lan Qiren is in the air, moving fast towards Cloud Recesses with a wriggling and shouting Wei Wuxian under one arm. It seems the disciple has concerns over the situation - as he should, being kidnapped is not something to dismiss easily.

It is of no consequence - they are high up in the sky and moving quickly. If Wei Wuxian does not want to fall down, he will have to stop squirming, and then Lan Qiren will be able to speak his (or rather his as of yet unknowing nephew's) suit. The trip back home will take a few hour; Lan Qiren is sure that will be enough time to bring Wei Wuxian over, or at least to intrigue him enough to stay a few hours in Cloud Recesses.

That will be long enough time for him to meet Wangji. And since Wangji himself will certainly fall in love with Wuxian at first sight, Lan Qiren is content to leave his nephew to woo his future husband until Jiang Fengmian arrives. By that time Wei Wuxian will surely be too smitten with Wangji to just leave. It will give Lan Qiren a reason to set a betrothal between them. They only need to wait a few months before Wuxian turns fifteen, and then they will get married as soon as can be arranged.

As the boy in his arm stops wriggling quite so much, looking resigned to his fate if somewhat pouty, Lan Qiren contemplates his near future.

Within a year, Wei Wuxian will be married into the Lan Clan, living happily with Wangji in the Jingshi, and Cloud Recesses will once again be filled with melodious laughter and warm, loving looks.

As it should be.

MDZS Prompt thing

Bear with me, I thought this up and thought it was a good-ish idea. Brought to you by this POST I did a couple weeks ago.

I want:

In the middle of a night hunt - being lead by Jiang Cheng, when things are getting out of hand (more so than usual), WiangXian are being overly lovey dovey and making not so subtle digs at JC, the juniors are not so quietly complaining about the way Sect leader Jiangs leading the hunt (Which is the safest way, preventing many possible injuries and possibly casualties) totally the opposite of Wei Wuxian!, Sect leader Yaos usual bitching at inopportune times, etc..

It all just builds up and hurts and aggravates but Jiang Cheng holds out until some bitch-faced cultivator makes a rather rude gesture about both his nephew and one of his female disciple (Who is head disciple). It goes to the point where JC just throws his hand up, tilts his head back and goes "You know what? I give up! Fuck this noise I'm out!!" and takes his disciples (who had to hold their tongue from lashing out at others for their sect leaders defense - they love him ok?!) and maybe get Jin Ling while he's at it and leaves.

Everyone's kinda shocked to see Yunmeng Jian pull out of the hunt like that and believe he's throwing a tantrum...

Cut to a few months later where Yunmeng Jiang has cut off all communication with other sects (Save for Lanling and that ONLY for his baby nephew - yes he maybe grown but he's still his baby damn it!) So everybody thought it was a genius idea to have WWX go and talk to Sect leader Jiang!

.... It was not.

Because LWJ always follows where WWX goes, it was a recipe for disaster.

After hearing about how he shouldn't be so 'bitter', and "relax and stop taking thing so seriously!" and "It was just a little fun!" and unknowingly continue to dig at and belittle him. It lead to the point of YMJ cutting off every sect completely - no Aid, no using their routes for travel, no trade, nothing! (Everyone but Lanling)

at some point I wanna see the leaders meeting and Nie Huaisang says the wrong thing about JC probably dying a virgin or some shit and JC goes "You'd think." HNS raises an eyebrow then JC yells "I FUCKED YOUR BROTHER DUMBASS!"

Everybody is SHOOKETH and Jiang Cheng turns to LWJ who looks ready to make a retort and opens his mouth, but JCs quicker and goes "YOURS TOO BITCH!" (which makes LQR, LXC and NMJ (He's alive for this fuck cannon) choke on either the tea or alcohol they're all drinking.

Don't know what happens after but there will be reconciliation and others realize why Yunmeng and Jin Ling love Jiang Cheng

All in all I want Jiang Cheng whose at his fucking limit and goes off at people and says what he wants then basically block them.

Theres this super popular ff in mdzs fandom that deals with time travel and I keep seeing it recommended all the time and honestly I tried reading it while o was still pretty new to the fandom and didnt yet know what I was going to be looking for... and it literally has wwx spending his childhood acting like he was less talented than jc so that madame yu wouldn't start hating him and would treat them all better and honestly????????? That wouldn't be possible even in a freaking canon divergence au???? Because wwx being a better disciple wasnt the main reason for her hatred? We know that she had already installed the idea of how jfm didnt love his children even before wwx showed up and I'm just so angry that 1. So many People dont see any problems with that sort of a behaviour and WWXS solution 2. So many people get so delusional just because yzy is a woman....

That's the most victim blamey "solution" I've heard of yet 😫. What is wrong w this fandom. Like: If the bright, talented kid just dulled his shine and made himself as small and insignificant as possible then everyone would have lived happily >:-/! And yes, nothing would have made YZY happy. Even if WWX were not talented she would still be pissed off JFM didn't leave him on the street to die. Or she'd be pissed off that jc is still not exceptional. Or she'd be pissed off that water is wet and the sky is blue. That's not the kind of person you can ever pacify. She'll always find some shit to be pissed off about.

Fun time travel AU would be right after WWX's death. WWX just wakes up as a child on the streets again. With the memory of the siege fresh in his mind and the deaths of the Wens he can't even think of looking at jc so he decides to take LWJ up on his offer and go to Gusu! bother the shit out of him! He just walks to the Cloud Recesses and insists on being taken in. He's the Jingyi 0.1 of Cloud Recesses. He does meet jc (again) when jc comes to study there and thinks he's an absolute tool. He's even worse than when he grew up w WWX. His cultivation is also half what it was in the absence of WWX challenging him. Essentially Jin Zixun 2.0.

WWX doesn't give af bc he has Lan Wangji but he has some great conversations with Nie Huaisang. Turns out NHS also has a wide collection of gay porn that WWX may or may not need to see in the name of scientific inquiry and not at all related in any way shape or form with Lan Wangji's shape and form that he can't seem to stop thinking about ... totally for scholarly reasons. etc etc etc.

My flights of fancy essentially all involve imagining WWX off the streets, seeing what reaction he would have had meeting jc with no strings attached, and daring LQR to resist his charm as a kid.
