Some days very busy, some days not. It’s pretty random what days people are active. You could always mute a bunch of channels and only interact in a few to get fewer notifications.

uh, hi! I saw your headcanon post about deaf/hoh wizards and I really liked it! Is it ok if you did a headcanon post for autistic wizards? If you need any help with the research I’d be happy to help!

hell yeah hell yeah (my lowkey self diagnosed ass loves this ask, and it was done mostly without research bc I love interacting w/ the actually autistic community on tumblr, if only through liking posts and learning more!) (link to mentioned post about deaf/hoh wizards!) 

Lots of autistic wizards pick elemental schools or balance!!! If they choose one of the spiritual schools, they tend to take a secondary in an elemental!

Nolan Stormgate is autistic, and as I’ve said, can get this hc from my cold dead hands, etc,

If you think they don’t randomly exhibit echolalia while trying to remember spell names you’re wrong! Staring at like, a flash card or a deck of spell cards and muttering the names/a syllable of the name happens often.

Some pets can be trained as service animals!!! My autistic oc morae has a pet orthrus that’s trained to help her, and I’d imagine a lot of other pets can be trained as well!!

They organize their spell decks Their Way and honestly why would you ever mess with it unless you wanted to face Wrath or Tears. (I personally would go by color, because I’m Like That.)

Many autistic wizards from Earth find that the other worlds in the Spiral are much easier to exist in!! Less loud noises and bright, flashing lights, less constant societal pressure. (Unless your world happens to be under attack by magical forces, but what can you do, y’know?)

Stimming with magic so totally happens!! Flappy hands resulting in pretty little sparks of magic in their school/favorite colors! Specialized amulets that are spelled to help calm people down when chewed on, specifically for that kind of stimming! 

They do the ‘idle animation’ action much more often than the average wizard to be honest. 

I have headcanoned the multiple sign languages in the Spiral, and here it is again, because nonverbal autistic people exist!! hello!!

Hyperfixations on a school of magic!! On a specific spell and how it works, or on these brand new worlds and their forgotten histories!! This is all there and awesome!! Maybe they find an obscure branch of magic that saves the Spiral’s collective butt one day just because their brain grabbed onto like, ancient runes, and refused to let it go for four months. 

Older autistic students will help younger ones adjust if they’re unfamiliar with Ravenwood!! They have a lil club/charity for funding resources for autistic students!! 

Magic becomes another sense, and it can become too much as well! Sensory overload can happen when too many spells are cast at once, because it connects to a wizard’s magic, and that can be draining to experience too much at once, and could cause a meltdown.

Same with too little sensory experience at once!! They will idly cast less damaging spells, maybe even keeping the creature around, just to feel magic, like when you make sounds just to hear something, or when you move your fingers just to feel something different, y’know!

They can be your heroes!! They can quest and fight with the best of them!! Autism is just something they have, they are not their neurodivergence, they are a person as well!! They could come in a multitude of genders, sexualities, races, ethnicities, sizes, shapes, whatever!!! They are all not to be underestimated, and being autistic could be their strength one day, but it is never a weakness!

she teaches you to dance! it’s late afternoon and it’s warm, and the two of you are gliding across the ballroom floor, laughing and stepping on each others’ toes, in steps that are half dancing, half hugs.

i have a really clear mental image of the two of you just going on a picnic or something! out in the woods, sitting in the dappled shade, as you two feed each other bites of your lunch and successfully avoid your duties for the rest of the afternoon

Speaking of tea, I havea nagging suspicion that a Mage of Heart would be the type to describe otherpeople through tea flavors. For example, their best friend is a white tea andlavender blend, that one guy next door is definitely an Earl Grey, and thatwonderfully vibrant art teacher? Most definitely matcha tea. This might besomething they keep to themselves, or they might look at you one day and say, “You’rea nice festive flavor. Cinnamon ginger tea I think!” Usually this would happen whenthe topic had nothing to do with hot beverages and it will make no sense incontext, but oh well. Most people readily forgive them because of how cute ofthem this tendency is.

This Mage of Heart cyclessteadily between their special interests, which I’m assuming includes history,geography, and political affairs. Facts and dates are okay, but it’s way morefun to talk about all the emotional impacts of history, the sentimental valuesthat people try to fold into their “purely logical” political views, and howcertain geographical structures would’ve captures the imaginations of thepeople who first discovered them. Listen, I don’t care how boring you think anyof these topics are, the Mage will make it informative, interesting, andnarratively sound. They will make you cryabout mountains and you won’t even care.

Your Mage of Heart isprobably a stimboard fanatic too, whether they like collecting them or theymake them themselves! Why focus on one swirling bottle of glitter or jigglingslime when you can have a bunch of them at once melt your brain in all theright ways? If they’re the type to like having a bunch, they will requeststimboards for the most bizarrely specific characters, like an AU Hanzo wherehe’s actually part Omnic and is in love with another Omnic. After a whilethough, they might make their own, and even start making some for theirfriends! Take this gift of several stimmy GIFs and realize it’s value!
