You guys have probably heard about it already, but there will be a Blue Period exhibition
And in one of their rooms they will expose…
The 1st Geidai Exam artworks!!!
Their self portraits!!! That we were not shown in the manga, so it’s something new.
We can see above: Murai, Maki, Hashida, Yatora (with his broken mirror), Yotasuke, who I think it’s on the other row is Miki, the exposition is not open yet so there aren’t many pictures,
the only full picture is this one of Murai:
(Ofc he’d draw himself shirtless)
I’ve only see this other picture with the artworks, behind Miki it seems like Ayano and maybe it’s Momo in the distance… (the light and wuality aren’t the best so we can only assume)
I wish I could see it online but it’s not available, I’ll wait to see the ones that will visit it post pictures bcs I was so curious about the other characters’ self portraits and artowrks (for the exam and in general bcs we barely know anything about anyone that isn’t Yatora)
Wait, there is also their exam number attached to the canvas (confirmed with yatora’s number 52)
Yotasuke is 120
Murai is 249
Hachiro is 248
Maki is 158
Hashida is 316
... it's may 2023, and i only now see the owo on momo's drawing (she has a habit of adding lots of text on her paintings)
Update: Since i still see people rebloging this and seeing this for the first time (if you’re new to blue period hiiiii i love this manga hope you too~) , i think I shall mention that this post was made on 16th June 2022, the exhibition was held in Tokyo between 18th June and 27th September 2022. They made an artbook for it with inspirations and explanations for each portrait (i think, i didn’t buy it yet because it’s solely in Japanese)

"Isn't it better to just have fun?"
What I love about "Blue Period" is that... Despite being a manga that focuses on art and artists, it never once glorifies or fetishizes the suffering they go through. Yamaguchi-sensei might have not touched upon that topic on itself yet, but I like how Yatora, Maki, Yotasuke, all of them, were just struggling.
There's always a common consensus within creators (me and my friends aren't excluded in this) that we wanted to make something out of our struggles or trauma or else it would mean we went through all of that for nothing. And more often than we'd like to admit, creating from that fuel was comfort zone, and when we don't feel like we're suffering while we create, it meant that we were doing something wrong.
Something 'Blue Period' always emphasize was 'having fun'. And it wasn't always just "don't think and have fun with it", it's an encouragement for us to enjoy creating, with genuine passion, without covering that enjoyment with thousands layer of irony or self-deprecating humour. It helped me embrace my love for art and creating so, so much, and I'm so grateful for that.
And when I realized that I needn't to struggle to create, to come up with thousands of reasons to excuse what I love... it really feels like this!
