If you watch this movie with the subtleties of the Production Code’s censorship in mind, you can see that Johnny’s moral dilemma is that he’s having amazing sex with Julia but doesn’t actually like her very much. Choosing Linda instead may mean less amazing sex, but a more compatible partner for life.

A dilemma that people still get caught up in today.

Also, there’s a 1930 Pre-Code version of this starring Ann Harding and Robert Ames, with Mary Astor as the snobbish but hot Julia and Edward Everett Horton in the exact same role he plays in the 1938 version.
