Manhunt/Bully crossover headcanons:
- The Journalist’s name is Robin.
- Robin was not a part of a clique in Bullworth. She had the potential to be one of the Jocks, as she used to be athletic, but it didn’t interest her.
- She’s not on bad terms with anyone (except Earnest), but she’s on best terms with Gloria Jackson and Judy Sender.
- Her favorite classes were English and Art. Her favorite teacher was Ms Philips.
- Robin would remind Ms Philips of her younger self.
- Laura Whyte was a new biology teacher a Bullworth at the time. She had to step in for Dr Watts for a few weeks, but the kids adored her and found her teaching methods to be a breath of fresh air.
- Back in Laura’s day she was the de facto leader of the Nerds. However, she was never recognized by the rest of the school as such, due to how society was back in the day.
- Judy and Daniel were her favorite students, but she never made that obvious.

Total Drama AU where in the celebrity manhunt episode, Total Drama Dirtbags consists of characters from different worlds.
Anyways, the Total Drama Dirtbags cast ends up strangled along with the OG cast and suddenly, they now have to complete in Total Drama World Tour.
I have some drafts + plans, but 24 crossover characters are completed along with the 16 (15 original and 1 extra), equaling to 40 contestants in total. Here are some previews of the characters:
This puffball is a star warrior who inhales things and copy abilities. He entered because he just wanted to make more friends.
A cookie is a princess who rules Hollyberry Kingdom.
A dude who is like Zee from Reboot, but chill and rides a skateboard.
A criminal who delivers the famous line, "Say Hello to my Little Friend!"
A guy who is the Ultimate Programmer and dresses as a girl to avoid being bullied. He entered the show so he can be stronger.
A very optimistic talking fish.
Other ideas:
There are more locations in this season, including those 7 locations that didn't make the final cut in the canon version: Toronto, Canada; Hershey, Pennsylvania, USA; Russia; Scotland; Taiwan; Mexico; and Italy.
There are four teams instead of 3 teams.
The plane has a business class along with the first class. The first-place team stays in first class while the second-place team stays in business class. The third and last-place team stays in the economy-class area.
This idea was inspired by Total Drama World Race by TDFan1998.
(I'm going to turn this idea into a fanfiction story.)

3, 8, and 25 for the locg ask game!
Tumblr media
He's just so slay what can I say. Anyways Emerald Twilight is my all time fave for him, and also GL/GA is amazing and I love it (though it is dated). But no I do love him. He's SUCH a bitch sometimes though and I find it so fun most of the time (and others kind of frustrating. Harold, please why must we do this rn).
The moment that really got me interested in him as a character (and not just background to other GLs) was definitely Green Lantern (1990) #1, when he swan dives off a cliff in front of some campers, only using the ring to save himself and fly away at the very last second. It immediately made me realize something was incredibly wrong with him and it has captivated me ever since
Tumblr media
Of my top 10, he's definitely the one I feel I know the least about, as I've always seen him more on team books (which is generally his forte but still). Something I really love about J'onn though is that he'd SUCH a great friend. Like in the Suicide Squad/JLI crossover when he sees Mari McCabe hanging out with C list villains and being suspicious breaking into the prison (bc the Squad was NOT known abt at this time) his first instinct isn't to be confrontational or fight like everyone else is doing, but instead to reach out and ask if she was okay and how he could help her.
Or like in nu52 JLA during the mind prison arc when he's helping and kind of mentoring Stargirl during their "escape" of the mind prison like <3333 he's just so good. Or in New Frontier when he befriends the government boss who spent the whole comic trying to hunt him down and experiment on him after he saves the govt guy's life at the expense of his own goals?
I just love how he's a hero character that isn't just like nebulously good and cares about all people, but specifically cares about the people in his life and shows that care in his relationships with them <3. Anyways I should read more Martian Manhunter. Especially bc Ostrander is one of my top writers on locg and I've been meaning to read more of his stuff
Tumblr media
APHRA LETS GOO!!!! Another Star Wars character but she's the queen of my heart for real. Did a campaign to try and get her in my top 20 a few months back but her ongoing ended and I've read more since then so now she's no. 25.
Fave runs for her are ofc Darth Vader (2015) [which I need to finish] and also Doctor Aphra (2020) by Alyssa Wong. There's also her 2016 run (which I think was written by Sí Spurrier?) but I haven't read that one yet so idk.
As a concept Aphra is just SO inspired and I rlly do hope we get EVEN more comics with her and that she makes the jump to other media bc I NEED star wars fans to get me when I rant about my favorite morally bankrupt asian lesbian archeologist fuckboy. She's also polyam but that's not compatible w the fuckboy bit bc that's her committed relationship later on (character development!)
I also love that she essentially bullied Luke Skywalker into being reluctant friends with her despite kidnapping him multiple times and also working for Darth Vader

Safin Beta Reader?
Anyone interested in beta reading? I decided to join the chaos of 007 Fest this year, and I’m working on a Safin x OC fic for the event. I want to improve myself as a writer, and feedback is the best path. Thought hitting up the Safin Sunday crowd would put me in the path of like minds.
You get early chapters and have an advantageous position for bullying my gothic ass towards a happy ending.
Tumblr media
General summary:
Arranged marriage AU with strong redemption vs. corruption elements. Light academia turns manhunt as Safin tries to reclaim a promised future. Slight Mission Impossible crossover (primarily for Benji, because we need a damsel in distress).
General warnings:
Safin being Safin, language, blood, stalking, kidnapping, non-consentual drug use (because Safin), arranged marriage, age difference, one very dubcon scene (the dove isn’t dead, but the poor thing might be concussed)
If these sound like topics you’re comfortable reading about, and the premise sounds interesting, please leave a comment or shoot a message. My inbox is open.

You have one piece fic I know you have one piece fic please post a one piece fic :D
I still don’t know why you like this one so much?
For those of you who are not my twin sister and beta reader, this is a scene from a One Piece/Castle crossover I wrote a couple years ago, basically imagining how the Water 7 arc from One Piece would happen if it was set in the Castle universe.
Castle is a police procedural show where a wealthy and eccentric author and a hard-nosed by the book detective team up to solve murders. One Piece is crazy anime pirates getting into crazy shenanigans in a crazy world.
If you’d like to see something else, check out this post for the full list.
And without further ado, here’s the fic!
“Are you sure we shouldn’t be going after this guy without more backup? I mean, he is a pirate.”
“He’s not a pirate, Castle. He just has a pirate flag on his boat. Plenty of people do that without actually being pirates.”
“But what if that’s just what he wants you to think? Maybe he’s just waiting for us to get up there and as soon as we do, the rest of his pirate crew will come swinging over from the next building with cutlasses between their teeth— maybe we could hire some ninjas instead–”
“Castle, are you going to take this seriously?”
“I am taking this seriously!” Award winning author Richard Castle pouted at his partner, Detective Kate Beckett, as the two of them climbed the stairs to the hotel roof, “You’re the one who’s dismissing the very real possibility of a pirate attack.”
Detective Kate Beckett of the NYPD paused on the landing, sighing and rubbing at the tension headache that inevitably formed whenever Castle got stuck on one of his ridiculous theories. “Castle. For the last time. We are here to question suspects in the attempted murder of Thomaso Ghiaccio. Not to accuse them of piracy. That’s the coast guard’s jurisdiction, not ours.” She continued climbing, “I’m still not sure why we’re on this instead of Major Crimes.”
“The chief probably just wanted his best detective on it.”
“That’s what he told me, but I’m homicide. I don’t usually get cases where the victim is still breathing.” She grimaced, remembering their trip to hospital to get witness statements from Ghiaccio’s teary secretary and the rest of his shaken employees. She’d seen the doctor’s report. The guy was lucky to be alive.
“It makes a nice change. To be able to stop a killer before they’ve actually killed someone instead of hunting them down after the fact.” Castle offered.
“It does,” Beckett admitted, “But still, this case! A prominent Italian engineer gets gunned down in his apartment without any sign of a break in. His employees are split between accusing a rival ship-building company or their most recent disgruntled customers, and are ready to lynch both of them, just in case. The rival company apparently has mafia ties, the customers sailed into town a week ago flying a pirate flag—they’re not really pirates, Castle, don’t even start. It sounds like something you would write, honestly…” She stopped dead, looking at the man beside her—the wealthy, well-connected, best-selling author, who had installed himself in her precinct and her life in search of ‘inspiration’ without so much as a by-your-leave—with growing disbelief. “Castle. You didn’t.”
Castle at least had the grace to look guilty. “You said so yourself, it’s a really interesting case.”
“Castle. Tell me you did not use your influence with the chief to land us this case because you wanted to investigate pirates.”
“…”
“Castle?”
“Ask me no questions and I’ll tell you no lies.”
“… I hope your pirates make you walk the plank.”
“Hey—! Wait, do you think Alexis would avenge me? She takes fencing. And she’ll probably bully you into helping her track them down… I can see it now. ’Allo, my name is Alexis Castle, you killed my father, prepare to die. No Alexis, don’t give in to the dark side—!”
“Focus, Castle.” Beckett instructed, rounding the corner of the final flight of stairs. “The roof’s just ahead.”
“Sorry,” Castle dropped his arms, running a little to catch up with Beckett, “You really think they’ll be on the roof? And if they’re not, ooh! Could we start a man-hunt? Because the only thing that would make this case better than it already is would be a city-wide manhunt for the attacker.”
“The manager saw one of them headed up these stairs.” Beckett said, deciding to ignore the bit about a city-wide manhunt for the sake of her sanity, “It’s as good a bet as any. Though why the alarms wouldn’t sound—ah,” She frowned at the wires hanging loose in front of the door, yanked out of the roof alarm, “They’re lucky we’re not building inspectors.”
“Thank God. Can you imagine trying to write a book about building code violations instead of murders? ” Castle said, and opened the door.
The first thing Castle noticed about the teenager leaning against the air-conditioning unit opposite the door was his hair. How did he even get it that color? It was a bright, almost glow-in-the-dark green. Combined with three piercings in one ear, cargo pants, ratty white wife-beater, and sullen glower, he looked like every boy he’d ever warned Alexis about, distilled into the archetypical punk.
The first thing Beckett noticed about the teenager was the unsheathed katana in his left hand.
Her hand dropped to her holster, drawing her gun and clicking off the safety in one move, “NYPD, drop your weapon.”
The teen glanced at her, his gaze dropping to the badge on her belt before he grunted in acknowledgement. “Yes. Choto, I am almost done.”
Beckett stiffened, about to demand that he put away his sword now, not when it suited him, but the teen had swiped a piece of thin paper along the edge of the blade and sheathed it before she could do more than open her mouth. He shifted onto his knees slowly and placed the sword on his far right, just out of easy reach. Then he leaned back again, slouching against the air conditioning unit, and raised an eyebrow as if to say, happy?
Castle was impressed. He wasn’t sure if it was teenage insolence or straight up arrogance, but either way, it took major guts to bait Beckett when she had her game face on.
Beckett twitched, eyes narrowed, looking like she still had half a mind to arrest him on general principles. But she holstered her gun, the only concession to still-twitching nerves the hand she rested on the grip. “We’re looking for Lufisacio D. Monkey.” She said, “Do you know where he is?”
That earned them a sharp look that even pulling a weapon on him hadn’t gotten. But his gaze shifted somewhere behind them, to the billboard toward the front of the building, and he yelled, “Oi, Luffy!”
“Hã?” Another boy’s voice called out, somewhere above them.
“Satsu-yo.”
“Satsuyo?” Beckett asked under her breath, not really expecting an answer as she looked for the owner of the second voice.
“Japanese slang for the police,” Castle replied, just as soft. He was still watching the green-haired teen, eyes alight, “You know, I think this guy might actually be yakuza! Well, no maybe not, no tattoos and he still has all his fingers. On a more important note; why didn’t you tell me that our prime suspect’s name was Lufisacio?”
“Because I knew that you wouldn’t shut up about it if you knew and it was a long drive.” Beckett muttered, then called louder, “Sir, would you mind coming out please?”
Gravel exploded beside them. Another teenager—shorter than the first, wearing a red basketball jersey and cut-off jeans– landed in a crouch. He straightened, placing the straw hat hanging around his neck back on to wiry black hair.
Beckett noted bandaged limbs and wondered where he had gotten the scar beneath his left eye.
Castle noted the sixteen foot difference between the top of the billboard and the roof, and wondered if the young man made a habit of jumping from high places.
Lufisacio D. Monkey glanced between the two of them, “Zoro said you are a polícia?”
“Yes,” Beckett said, “I’m Detective Kate Beckett, this is my partner Richard Castle.”
The teen, somewhat surprisingly, brightened, “Richard Castelo? O autor?”
“If, by that you mean the famous, best-selling author that has been translated into dozens of languages around the world, then yes, that’s me.” Castle smirked a bit, holding out a hand.
“Que barato!” The teen grinned widely, seizing Castle’s hand and shaking it enthusiastically before turning back to his friend. “Zoro, mee-te!”
“Ah, ah, wakkatte.” The green-haired teen waved lazily, then linked both hands behind his head and closed his eyes.
Unperturbed by the lack of enthusiasm, he turned back to face Castle and Beckett with the same wide grin, “Nami and Robin read your stories all the time to us. They are very good!”
“Glad you enjoyed them,” Castle was matching him grin for grin by this point, “It’s always good to meet a fan.”
“You will sign our books?”
“Sure!”
“Unfortunately,” Beckett broke in, “I’m afraid neither of you will have time for that.” She was immune to Castle’s reaction at this point, but she wasn’t quite prepared when they both turned puppy eyes on her. She had to steel herself before continuing, “We just have a few questions for you, Mr. Monkey—”
“Vovô?” The teen interrupted, looking around in alarm.
His friend snorted, mumbling something that sounded vaguely like, “aho, teme-ga.”
Whatever it was, Luffy relaxed, turning back to them with a grin, “My name is Luffy. Mr. Monkey is my vovô, my grandpa. Entendes?”
“Luffy is a lot better than Lufisacio.” Castle said, with a sympathetic smile at the awful name.
“Sim.” Luffy made a face, and glanced at Beckett, “Detetive, you have questions?”
“Yes.” Beckett said, pulling up a picture on her phone. “Do you recognize this man?”
“Avô Tom. Yes, I know him.” Luffy nodded. “He looked at our ship when we brought it for repairs.”
The president of the entire company personally evaluates a ship for damages? There’s got to be something up with that. Beckett nodded, making a mental note, “And were you satisfied with his work?”
Something in Luffy’s face shut down. Aha, Beckett thought. Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Castle lean forward.
“Sim … talvez.” Luffy stared down at his feet, “Não.”
“English please, Luffy.” Beckett said, a touch impatiently.
“He said Allons-y Allégrement could no longer sail.”
“Is that your ship?” Luffy nodded, “Did you have an argument?”
“Sim,” he shrugged, “I wanted Avô to fix her. We brought lots of dollars to show we could afford the repairs, but he said it did not matter how much money we had, it was impossible.”
“Why was that?”
“Allons-y Allégrement is a wood ship. Her quilha, her keel … he said it was broken.”
“Did you believe him?”
To Beckett’s surprise, that question made him rally, He lifted his head, looking her in the eye. “I do not know how to fix ships,” He told her, “Meu tripulação does not know how to fix ships. If Avô Tom and his friends say she cannot go on, I must trust him.”
Which was not a ‘yes.’ Definitely something to look into.
“Still,” Castle interjected, “That must have been pretty difficult, just giving up on your ship like that. We saw pictures of her; she looks like she’s been through a lot.”
“Eh,” Luffy shrugged again, uncomfortable, “We need to keep moving. We need to buy a new ship. I wish it was not necessary, but it is what we must do.”
“Speaking of moving,” Castle said, “According to our records, you’re docked down at Liberty Landing Marina.” At Luffy’s nod, he continued, managing to sound only curious about a detail he was convinced would crack the case. “I can understand wanting to see the Big Apple, but what are you doing all the way in Brooklyn?”
“Cheap hotels.”
… Damn. Luffy can’t lie at all, can he? Beckett thought. If he was closed off before, he was positively stony now, and the contrast between that and the cheerfulness he had greeted them with made his reluctance to answer painfully obvious.
Hiding or not, Castle’s pet theory was going to have to wait. It was time to get down to business. “When was the last time you saw Mr. Ghiaccio?” Beckett asked.
“Yesterday.” Luffy glanced at her curiously. “Why? Is he lost?”
“Mr. Ghiaccio was shot last night in his home.”
“… Heh?” Luffy was staring, eyes wide and shocked, “Avô Tom was … fala serio!”
“He was shot twice in the front and three times in the back.” Beckett had to squash an instinctual rush of sympathy at Luffy’s expression, bearing on brutally. “He’s still alive. But only barely.”
“Não.” Luffy shook his head in denial.
Beckett and Castle shared a glance. Neither of them had understood all of what Luffy had said, but Beckett had broken the news of a loved one’s death to enough families that she could guess.
Which begged the question. Luffy was a suspect. The only possible suspect, according to Ghiaccio’s main foreman and quite a few employees.
Why was he acting like a victim?
“Quem—” Luffy began, stopped himself, and began again in English. “Who would shoot him? Why? He is a nice man, todos o amam. Who would shoot him?”
Beckett raised an eyebrow, letting her silence speak for itself.
When the silence crossed the line from ‘telling’ to ‘awkward’ and Luffy looked no closer to getting the message, Castle coughed slightly. “We were hoping you could tell us.” He said delicately.
Luffy gave him an exasperated look. “How can I know? We only come to town a week ago!” He crossed his arms with a considering frown, “Castelo tells good stories, but maybe he is not so good with real life mysteries?”
Beckett had to bite her lip to keep from laughing as Castle swelled indignantly. “I am too!” He all but squawked, and abandoned all notion of subtlety. “Why do you think we’re here talking to you? You’re the suspect!”
“Hãããããã?!?!?!?!” Luffy’s jaw dropped and eyes bugged as he gaped at them.
It would have been funny if they weren’t accusing him of attempted murder.
Any humor she felt at the situation evaporated. “Luffy,” She said, catching his attention, “Where were you between nine and eleven pm last night?”
“By a marina. Maybe in the park? Then walking to the hotel.”
“Is there anyone who could verify that?” Beckett asked, opening her notebook to write down names.
“Sim. My friends. We had lost one, but …” Luffy trailed off, looking positively grim before he shook himself and finished answering, “Todos de meu— all of my friends were there but her.”
Castle stayed quiet as Beckett asked the questions needed to complete Luffy’s alibi, considering the dark look that had crossed the boy’s face. It actually took some real effort for him to snap out of that, Castle thought, intrigued.
What are you hiding, Mr. Lufisacio D. Monkey?
Beckett was looking rather grim herself, though she hid it well under a layer of cool professionalism. “Would you mind coming down to the station while we check out a few things?” She asked.
“À delagacia?” Luffy blinked.
“Is he arrested?”
Castle started, glancing over at where the green-haired teen was no longer asleep.
The teen glowered suspiciously at them, “Is Luffy arrested or no?” He demanded.
“We just want to verify a couple parts of his alibi.” Beckett said smoothly, “He’s not under arrest.”
Yet, hung unspoken in the air. The teen’s eyes narrowed, trying to stare Beckett down.
Castle was rather glad that he wasn’t on the receiving end of that glare. From either of them. The green-haired teen was brimming with suspicion and hostility, and looked frankly dangerous despite his young age, while Beckett watched him with all the calm assurance of a senior detective of the NYPD, hand on the grip of her gun as if daring him to try something…. Darn it, why is there never popcorn when you need any?
“Dai jo bu, Zoro,” Luffy said easily, cutting through the tension in the air. The teenager broke off his staring contest with Beckett to give Luffy a worried scowl, “Even if I am arrested, está bom. We did not think to look in prison.”
“That woman would never allow herself to be caught unless she meant to be.” Zoro shot back.
Luffy shrugged, “Sim. But maybe a polícia know what we do not? Either way, I will go.”
Zoro scowled deeper for a moment, before sighing, “Shi, capitao.”
Luffy nodded, satisfied, then seemed to think of something and turned to Beckett in alarm, “Do you think Zoro is a killer too? His a-lee-by is to be with me, and if I must come with you—”
“Your friend isn’t under any suspicion.” Beckett assured him. Giving Zoro a look askance, she added “But if he wants to come with you, that would be fine.”
“Hmmmm.” Luffy crossed his arms, considering. He made a decision, going to crouch down beside his friend. “Zoro. You want to come?”
“… No.” Zoro rubbed his face, suddenly looking tired in a way that had nothing to do with his recent catnap. “No. I will wait.”
Luffy nodded, then stood up, walking to Beckett and Castle without hesitation, “Vamos!” He yanked the roof door open and ran down the stairs. His voice and footsteps echoed up the staircase as he called up to them, “You have a police car, yes? With sirens and lights? You will turn them on, yes …?”

Mon-El of Daxam - Hero’s Journey to Valor - Part 3
As I explained in my previous 2 posts, we know from the April Chris Wood interview in the Sci Fi Magazine that the producers wanted to give Mon-El a complete hero arch.
https://emarasmoak.tumblr.com/post/158331655863/agualuna29-source-scifi-magazine-april-2017
This is why he is following the 17 steps (divided in 3 phases) of the Hero’s Journey (Monomyth) as described by John Campbell through his character development to the superhero Valor. This is my third and final post on this journey.
Tumblr media
.
Mon-El completed the first phase of the Hero’s Journey, INITIATION, in 2x09, when he said that he wanted to be a superhero. And finished the second phase, SEPARATION, in 2x22, when he selflessly accepted his metaphorical death for the greater good, achieving what he promised: that he would help Supergirl keep the world spinning. I pointed to specific scenes explaining how this happened in my previous 2 posts.
https://emarasmoak.tumblr.com/post/161035452713/mon-el-of-daxam-heros-journey-to-valor-part-1
https://emarasmoak.tumblr.com/post/161906535438/mon-el-of-daxam-heros-journey-to-valor-part-2
He will be completely in the third phase, RETURN, during Season 3. In this post I am going to write down my speculations, making guesses about how Mon-El could achieve the remaining steps of this journey. I support the theory that he will spend some time in the future with the Legion of Superheroes before returning to Kara’s time because it is quite similar to what happened in comics and Smallville, and because it fits perfectly with the remaining steps of the monomyth.
Bonus 1: I will also mention at the end of this post some mythic elements that are often present in the Hero’s Journey and can also be found in Supergirl season 2 in relation to Mon-El.
Bonus 2: I will also include some information about the Hero’s Journey is and other popular fiction stories have used it. The list includes a majority of the Flarrowverse good guys.
Keep on reading after the break.
III –RETURN
I believe that at the end of 2x22 Mon-El’s pod got into a time portal that was created in the 31st century by the Legion of Superheroes, who purposefully rescued him because Mon-El is needed in the future or in Kara’s timeline. They will find him, cure permanently his lead allergy, train him, and return him back to the present (the Legion can travel through space and time).
Because the Legion is in the 31st century, they know what happened in their past, what kind of person Mon-El is, what heroic acts he will do in his future and why he is worth saving.
This theory fits perfectly with the remaining steps of Mon-El’s Hero’s Journey.
12 – REFUSAL OF RETURN
‘Having found bliss and enlightenment in the other world, the hero may not want to return to the ordinary world to bestow the boon onto his fellow man.’
We learned in the previous post that the ultimate boon is the achievement of the goal of the quest; it is what the person went on the journey to get. In myths, it is most often attaining a transcendent like the elixir of life, a plant offering immortality, or the Holy Grail. In the case of Mon-El, I think that the goal of his quest was sacrificing himself helping Supergirl to keep the world spinning, and the boon is symbolized by the necklace that Kara gives to him in 2x22 to keep him safe. One of the things that Mon-El has deeply desired through his journey was being a true hero so he could earn and be worthy of Kara’s love. The necklace symbolizes the fulfilling of this wish (which has been Kara’s wish too as she has expressed repeatedly). As per Alura’s words, with this necklace, Mon-El would never be alone because Kara would be in his dreams.
I can see two possible storylines fulfilling step 12:
a. Mon-El and the Legion find a way for him to return safely to Earth but he does not want to do it because he thinks that he would be a burden to Kara, because he knows that in a timeline without him she achieved greatness as a hero, or because his return might harm the timeline. The season 3 premiere will probably happen several months after the events in 2x22 so if this possibility happens we would see Mon-El thinking that Kara has moved on and maybe that she would be better without his return.
I think that the most probably storyline is the second possibility:
b. Mon-El is working in the future with the Legion of Superheroes and he feels that he has a duty to stay with them / return with them because he is needed in the 31st century. He may behave distantly so it would make easier for Kara to let him go. Two possible reasons for this: one would be him feeling that returning to the future is necessary for him to be the hero that Kara always wanted him to be. The other would be Mon-El having amnesia. I could see temporary love interest(s) for Kara and/ or Mon-El added to this storyline (if this happens, can he please date a dude like the pansexual person that I think he is?). Of course, in any of these situations, Kara and Mon-El will find their way to each other and they would get together again, stronger than before, as the endgame couple that they are. Epic love stories like Karamel are made of angst (and we had so much fluff in season 2).
13 – MAGIC FLIGHT
‘Sometimes the hero must escape with the boon, making the return journey as dangerous and adventurous as it was to go on it’.
So Mon-El’s return to the 21st century will include some element of danger. Which may have to do with his lead allergy (not knowing if he would be able to survive) and maybe even with the travel itself (maybe they are chased by some very big bad guys such as Worldkillers or Dominators). Another possibility would be that Mon-El could harm the timeline with his knowledge of past events, so the Legion could decide to cause him amnesia to let him go back. And he may decide to do it willingly if it means that he could save Kara/ the world from a great danger (like Reign).
14 – RESCUE FROM WITHOUT
‘Oftentimes the hero is presented with powerful rescuers or guides to bring them back to everyday life, especially if the person has been wounded of weakened by the quest’.
This one clearly points at the Legion of Superheroes being the ones giving him the cure of his lead allergy (which in comics is a superserum or a Flight Ring, which in any case are created by Legion members). I expect some of the Legionnaires to go to the 21st century temporarily with him as it happened in Smallville. I think that the DEO friends in Kara’s timeline will see the Legion members treating Mon-El with admiration and respect because they all knew about his actions as the legendary hero Valor.
15 – CROSSING THE RETURN THRESHOLD
‘The hero returns with wisdom gained on the quest and must figure out how to apply it to everyday life and share it with the rest of the world’.
Mon-El will get the Flight Ring that he has in the comics, and this will make him able to fly and potentially give him some other powers. I would also expect that the Legion will train him so he will get valuable skills that he will need to help Kara / the world. He can also get more experience if he helps the Legion with a quest of their own.
I am not sure how he will get the superhero suit and the superhero name (that I expect to be Valor), but it has been pointed twice that Winn will make him a suit and once that he will give him his name so I think that the suit will definitely be Winn’s. I expect the suit to include Kara’s glyph and he may get it in the future or the present.
And we will get Valor teaming up with other heroes to fight for Kara and the world. I expect the list to include Supergirl (SuperValor FTW), other Legionnaires, the Martian Manhunter, Superman, Guardian and other Flarrowverse good guys (during the big crossover, the next musical crossover or another minor crossover… sadly, I don’t think that he will be a part of the Superhero Fight Club 3.0 because he is the cliffhanger). I particularly want Mon-El to meet Oliver Queen as their past as privileged frat boys that love cooking for their very accomplished girlfriends would give them reasons to bond. Oliver’s deadpan reactions to Mon-El’s funny lines would be hilarious but what I would be looking forward the most would be Mon-El learning from a very experienced pragmatic superhero like Oliver is.
16 – MASTER OF TWO WORLDS
‘Achieving a balance between the material and spiritual worlds. In both inner and outer worlds, the hero is now confident and competent’.
Mon-El’s accomplishments a hero in season 2 has not been too many until the very end (2x22). There have been many occasions when he has been overpowered or tricked by the bad guys (thieves in L*na’s party, Parasite, Cadmus, Henshaw, bad science man, Myxyzpltk or Rhea). This is something that will change with all the new training and experience and powers that he will get with the Legion, and it will help him feel confident and competent as a hero. I would also like to see him using electricity to heal himself (and maybe enhancing his powers) as he did in 2x02. And hey, his lead allergy will be permanently cured so he will finally be bulletproof (and harder to defeat because Kara still with be sensitive to Kryptonite but he will not have weaknesses).
I expect a Big Hero Moment at some point in the season, probably using the skills / powers that he will get during his time with the Legion. Getting his superhero name and supersuit and public recognition are usually big deals in superhero stories, so I expect these to be special for Mon-El too.
17 – FREEDOM TO LIVE
‘The hero no longer regrets the past or anticipates the future. Mastery leads to freedom from the fear of death, which in turn is the freedom to live. This is sometimes referred to as living in the moment, neither anticipating the future nor regretting the past.’
Mon-El has shown to be ashamed of his past:
“A race of bullies and hedonists, committed only to their own pleasure. They are selfish.” “Bye, mom! Sorry about that” “No, it was… uh… an apt description.” (2x04)
“I forgot they had slavery on Daxam.” “There were a lot of things there I didn’t agree with.” (2x10)
“What about the Prince?” “He wasn’t worth admiring. But I wanna be.” (2x10)
“What about that Kryptonian Emissary? Your guard? Do you even feel guilty?” “Of course I do.” (2x16)
“I was a spoiled, useless person, that I didn’t know, until I met you.” (2x16)
“I think about our lives there and it makes me ill. I detest who I was. I was ignorant, and blind to those around me and letting myself be propped up at the expense of our people. And I’m tired of being served and I’m tired of taking the easy way out.” (2x16)
He has made a lot of mistakes and his past as Prince was really awful. Kara has been telling him constantly that he keeps on messing it up, that he should change, that he should step up as a hero, and her love and affection has been withdrawn from him several times because of his mistakes and failures. And he has had craved for recognition that he was getting better and becoming a good and selfless person. He has been getting some of it and we can see that he really is very happy when this happens:
You showed up.” “Nobody’s more surprised than me.” “Thank you.” (2x06)
“You were really brave, Mon-El.” “I told you I was scared.” “Well, you could still be scared while being brave. Maybe there’s a hero in you after all.” “Well, any… uh… any courage I do have, I learned it from you.”(2x07)
“Yesterday, you were a little less Goofus, and a little more Gallant.” “You noticed? I’ll take it.” (2x09)
“I think you’re ready.” “Mmm-hmm.” “I mean, you’re dedicated, you punch really hard.” (2x10)
“I’m actually talking about myself. You know, you believing in me, it meant a lot.” (2x12)
“And then, you came along, and I thought you were thoughtless and selfish. And I kept writing you off. And you kept proving me wrong.” (2x12)
“You know something?” “What?” “Maybe being Supergirl and having you is enough.” “You think so?” “Yeah.” “I hope so.” (2x15)
“You have changed.” “Oh yeah?” “Yes, I’m impressed. (…) There’s one good thing about not having to work at CatCo.” “What’s that?” “There’s more time with you.” (2x17)
“People don’t really change.” “Sure they do. You did. You’ve become someone incredible and unselfish. Just give her a chance.” “You really think I’m incredible?” (2x17)
“You came after me!” “Every time.” (2x17)
“I think you were pretty brave.” “No, I just did what I knew you would have done and it was terrifying.” (…) “Well, I’m not going to forget the way you sacrificed yourself for me. Ever.” “So we saved each other today.” “Yeah.” (2x17)
“And you’re the guy who’s dating my cousin? (…) You must be a good guy or she wouldn’t be with you”. (2x22)
“I’m coming, too. (…) I know you probably want to go, but I…” “No. You’ll be a good second”. (2x22)
He has been hoping to get external approval of his actions, mostly by Kara, who has shown more and more his love and admiration for him, but the intensity and depth of her feelings were not completely clear until the very end of the season.
“Wherever I go I’m gonna be better because of you. (…) I promise I’m going to be the man that you thought I could be. I promise.” “You’ve made me so happy. (…) I love you. And I should have said it before.” “I love you.” (2x22)
One of the things that will happen at the end of Mon-Els Hero’s Journey is that he will finally accept who he was and who is becoming, and this will give him spiritual strength. He will do whatever heroic action he needs to do for himself and this will make him happy, because he will have Kara’s love and admiration as well. And he will know that he earned them and is worthy of them.
AND THE HERO’S JOURNEY CONTINUES…
The Hero’s Journey is an endless circle. Once this development is complete for the first time, Mon-El will get new goals that will be needed for him to fulfil his purpose as a superhero (which is protecting citizens above else) so he will go through the 17 steps again (Oliver Queen has gone through this circle at least 3 times by now in Arrow).
For season 3, I wouldn’t be surprised if in the finale Kara ‘dies’ killed by Reign and Mon-El has to keep on protecting National City as the superhero Valor while grieving for Kara (if this happens, she will return in a few episodes, but they would not know that). SPOILER ALERT FOR OTHER DC TV SHOWS AND MOVIES: Kara dying would be a similar storyline to Doomsday killing Clark in ‘Batman vs Superman’, Arrow in season 3 (Oliver was ‘killed’ by Ra’s Al-Ghul) and The Flash season 3 (when Barry had to enter the Speed Force to save the world).
BONUS 1: COMMON MYTHIC ELEMENTS THAT ARE OFTEN PRESENT IN THE HERO’S JOURNEY
A - TWO WORLDS (MUNDANE AND SPECIAL)
The hero moves between a mundane normal reality (Daxam & Slaver’s Moon – Red Sun = no powers) and a special (Earth – Yellow Sun = powers).
B - THE MENTOR
Kara is specifically named as his mentor.
“I’ll be here to help you, however you need me to. That’s what a real mentor does.” (2x05)
C - THE ORACLE
The hero is told about his prophesized destiny by and Oracle. This could be Kara telling him that he might want to become a hero, but I think that this something that probably will happen in season 3. The Legion of Superheroes will know what happened in Kara’s timeline, and that is why they will rescue and train him: so he can fulfill his destiny.
D - THE PROPHECY
There will probably something that he did in the 21st century and that they need to ensure that he does for the greater good. They may not tell him what is it but the audience might get to know about it. It could be saving Kara’s life or saving the world from a specific threat.
E - FAILED HERO
There is usually another hero that tried to achieve the same goal first but is not successful. In the romantic aspect, it could be J*mes as he clearly is not the love of Kara’s life. In the hero aspect, it could also be him because Kara stated in 2x10 that she didn’t want him to be Guardian but she would train Mon-El to be a hero. However, he is clearly successful as a vigilante.
F - WEARING ENEMY’S SKIN
He has to wear again the Daxamite Royal Attire in 2x21 for the LeMon wedding.
And there is a theory that Valor’s suit is so similar to the Daxamite shirt that he was wearing in the flashbacks and the pod that brought him to Earth in 2x01 that probably his supersuit will be designed like that on purpose. Winn has probably seen the shirt that he was wearing in the pod, after all.
G - SHAPESHIFTER - ‘The Hero isn’t sure if he or she can trust this character.’
This is clearly Jeremiah in 2x14. Mon-El was right about him. And probably all the DEO team in 2x04 when he lied about him being the Prince to protect himself from these people who imprisoned him without proof.
H - ANIMAL FAMILIAR
He does not have an animal familiar. Does the calculator watch count? It is one of the few familiar things that he takes with him to the pod when he leaves Earth in 2x22.
I - CHASING A LONE ANIMAL INTO THE ENCHANTED WOOD
He tries to find Myxzpltk (a superpowered 5th dimensional being) to make him fight and ends up in a magical theatre.
BONUS 2: FURTHER INFO ON THE HERO’S JOURNEY
In narratology and comparative mythology, the Monomyth, also called the Hero’s Journey, is the common template of a broad category of tales that involve a hero who goes on an adventure, in a decisive crisis wins a victory, and then comes home changed or transformed.
It was popularized by Joseph Campbell, who was influenced by Carl Jung’s view of myth. In his 1949 work The Hero with a Thousand Faces, Campbell described the basic narrative pattern that I have used in this post.
Numerous works of popular fiction are based on the Monomyth structure, including Luke Skywalker from Star Wars, J. K. Rowling’s Harry Potter, Neo from Matrix, LOTR’s Frodo and Aragorn, Indiana Jones, Marty McFly from Back to the Future, Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz, Simba from The Lion King, Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, Marlin in Finding Nemo, Mr Incredible in The Incredibles, Flynn Rider in Tangled, and most superheroes, including Batman, Wonder Woman, Iron Man, Spiderman, Thor, Wolverine or Jessica Jones.
Most good guys in the Flarrowverse follow the Hero’s Journey too, including Oliver Queen (who has gone through this cycle at least 3 times by the end of Arrow season 5), Digg, Thea, Felicity, Roy, Laurel, Curtis, Sara, Ray, Leonard, Mick, Martin, Jax, Wally, Cisco, Iris, M’Gann, J*mes and Winn. Interestingly, Kara, Barry, Alex and J’Onn (and probably L*na too) follow this path but it is quite difficult to see it because they are so clearly willing and able to be good heroic people who help others from the beginning that there is not much evolution in their journeys. The more flawed a character is initially, the more evident and compelling their evolution is (and this is why the Supergirl producers/ writers wanted to introduce Mon-El as the opposite of a hero at the beginning, so we could see the hero’s journey in a character with similar powers to Kara). But all our heroes learn new things every season so they are still developing to better versions of themselves. This is what makes superhero shows interesting.
Well, this ends my series of posts about Mon-El’s Hero’s Journey. I hope that you have had fun. We just have to wait a bit more for Mon-El’s rise as Valor in season 3! So exciting! I can’t wait!
