#marvel holiday special: 2004

Note
Adding onto what the previous anon recommended, some scattered scemma moments that I think you can enjoy with relatively little context: Marvel Holiday Special(2004) #1
X-Men: Manifest Destiny(2008) #2
Heralds(2010) #1
Uncanny X-Men #495
and some that may require more context: Cable(2008) #6 (context: Scott entrusted Cable with the baby Hope, the first and only mutant born after the M-Day. Cable is currently wandering in the future to protect the baby.)
X-Men Legacy(2008) #215-216 (context: Charles kinda died but not really in the event called Messiah Complex and then went on a journey to re-examine himself. He discovers something and meets with Scott to talk about it.)
Astonishing X-Men(2004) #44-47 (context: This is set after the event called Schism, where Scott and Logan had a fight and as a result the X-Men got divided into two groups. There are not really much scemma here tbh, but this story features an au version of Emma who married Scott and I like a few moments they share.)
Unrelated to scemma, I also recommend X-Men: Season One in general. It's a nice one-shot story about the O5.
For Scott and Warren, I have a hunch some of the panels you are referring to might be from Louise Simonson's run on the X-Factor(1986) series. Her tenure on the X-Factor starts at #6 and ends at #64 and it is the O5's quarter-life crisis book. X-Factor starts with Jean turning out to be alive after Dark Phoenix Saga and the O5 reuniting. I am not sure how readable it is without other overall contexts, but anyway for Scott and Warren, maybe X-Factor #15 & #17? There might be more but I'm not sure. It's been a while since I last reread them so I'm kinda coming up blank right now. Also, this is a tangent but X-Factor #68 is the issue where Scott sends baby Nathan to the future.
Thank you so much for that very detailed recommendation list 🥺❤ I am excited to read them!!

That gives us this year's reading bingo chart! Two full bingos and almost a third, so that's pretty good.
My favorite book this year was "Circe." I've been away from the classical Greek period for several years now, and Miller's book scratched a particular itch.
📺 Shows I Finished:
Be Cool, Scooby-Doo (best revision of the franchise ever tyvm)
Good Omens (finished season 2… honestly didn't like it as much as the first season)
Grimm (finally finished watching this damn series... I'm glad I did, but I don't think it was worth the time, tbh)
the Horror of Dolores Roach (we support women's rights and women's wrongs)
I'm A Virgo (the irony of watching it on Amazon Prime was not lost on me)
the Legend of Vox Machina (finished Season 1)
📺 Shows I'm Currently Watching:
The Adventures of Batman and Robin (1968, Filmation)
Being Human (American version, partway through Season 1)
the Feed
Frasier ♻️
the Legend of Vox Machina (partway through Season 2 rn)
Psych (partway through Season 2 rn) ♻️
Tokyo Vampire Hotel
🎬 Movies I Watched:
I may not have produced a lot of art or written much fic this year, but boy howdy did I watch movies!
the Addams Family 2 (2021, MGM)
the Aristocats (1970, Disney) ♻️
the Batman (2022, Warner Bros.)
the Birdcage (1996, MGM)
Black Panther (2018, Marvel)
the Black Phone (2021, Blumhouse)
Bros (2022, Universal)
Doctor Strange (2016, Marvel)
Doctor Strange: Multiverse of Madness (2022, Marvel)
Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022, AGBO)
Hellboy: Sword of Storms (2006, Starz Media)
Invincible: Atom Eve (2023, Amazon)

Merry Little Batman (2023, Amazon)
Morbius (2022, Sony)
Nope (2022, Monkeypaw Productions)
Pirates of the Caribbean: the Curse of the Black Pearl (2003, Disney) ♻️
Renfield (2023, Universal)
Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (1964, Rankin Bass) ♻️
Scooby-Doo and the Curse of the 13th Ghost (2019, Warner Bros.)
Scrooged (1988, Paramount)
Secret Window (2004, Sony)
Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023, Sony)
Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse (2018, Sony) ♻️
Totally Killer (2023, Blumhouse)
Uzumaki (2000, Omega Micott)
Violent Night (2022, 87North Productions)
Wonder Woman (2017, Warner Bros.)
Words on Bathroom Walls (2020, LD Entertainment)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And this year's movie watching bingo chart is... completely covered.
I have achieved ultimate bingo.
I'm not sure what my favorite movie of the bunch was, but "Nope," "Across the Spider-Verse," "the Black Phone," "Totally Killer," "Words on Bathroom Walls," and "the Batman" are all pretty up there.
I tried to watch a movie every Saturday of this year. I didn't hit them all, but I did manage to watch a whopping 33 movies, exposing myself to stories and genres that I normally wouldn't, and I'm very happy to have gotten that far.
I probably won't watch anywhere near that amount of movies in 2024 (I have other plans for the year that are going to be fairly time consuming), but this was a fun experience.

Into the Anthill pt 37 - Avengers Disassembled
He’s had some bad days before, but even for Hank this is probably the worst he’s ever had (and he’s died at least 3 times already). As the one Avenger with worse mental breakdowns than Hank, Wanda finally loses control and tries to destroy the team. Her magic leads to the deaths of Ant-Man, Vision, Hawkeye, and Jack of Hearts (who was already dead but she brought him back just to blow him up), as well as the destruction of Avengers Mansion.
But hey, they made it 41 years. Not sure what that equals in their sliding timescale but it’s an impressive run.

Avengers vol 3 #500-501
Ant-Man was killed when Jack of Hearts rose from the dead and detonated, destroying much of Avengers Mansion and injuring everyone inside as well. Iron Man, who had been addressing the U.N., suddenly found himself too drunk to continue and was ushered out. Vision, no longer in control of his body, flew a Quinjet into the wrecked mansion and spat out Ultron drones to attack the Avengers. She-Hulk, suddenly in an uncontrollable rage, tore Vision in half and killed him. Hank arrived too late to help so he carried survivors to the hospital at giant size. Back at the mansion every living Avenger responded to the emergency signal and found themselves attacked by the kree. In the heat of the battle Hawkeye was killed. As quickly as they appeared, the kree vanished and Dr. Strange arrived. He revealed that this was the work of Wanda Maximoff suffering another nervous breakdown. Once again able to remember the loss of her children she killed Agatha Harkness and subconsciously set in motion the chain of events that led to the Avengers’ darkest day.
Avengers Finale vol 1 #1
A ceremony was held in memorial to the lost Avengers 3 months later. Tony could no longer afford to finance them, but he was able to convince New York to leave the ruins of Avengers Mansion as a landmark. Jen quit due to the guilt of what she was made to do. Hank accepted a fellowship at Oxford and would be moving overseas with Janet, who wanted to have another fresh start with him. Falcon followed suit, considering quitting superheroics entirely. At that, Carol noted that this really was the end of the Avengers. Each member in attendance shared stories of their proudest moments with the team and offered a toast to every teammate they’d lost.
Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes vol 1 #1-5, 7-8
This series goes over the early days of the Avengers in more detail, including but not limited to: the day they signed the Avengers Charter, Captain America’s first days out of the ice, their first confrontations with the Masters of Evil and Kang, and the recruitment of Hawkeye, Quicksilver, and Scarlet Witch.
Marvel Knights: Spider-Man vol 1 #15
After his wallet was stolen, Spider-Man brought one of his old Spider Tracers to Hank at his reserve lab in Cresskill to see if he could help find it. After having a brief laugh about it, Hank agreed to have ants search the city for it and report back to him when they found something.

Dick and Tim – brothers in arms
Tumblr media
So I got this ask. And it’s a good thing I got it the first night of my summer vacation, and the weather hasn't been great ;-)
Tumblr media
Once I started digging for comics with both Tim and Dick, I found several that I've never read. I got the impression Anonymous would like a complete list, so I just kept going. But this means I don't know if they even interact in some of the books, or if they make "blink and you miss it" guest appearances.
I'm sorry if they, by any chance, was asking for reading recommendations for good Dick and Tim moments and not The Complete List... Looking at the number of comics here that I haven't read/can't remember, I'm not really qualified to answer that. But if I had to try, I would mention:
A Lonely Place of Dying
The New Titans #65
All issues of Nightwing vol 2 with Robin as a guest star, including Nightwing Annual #1 but excluding Annual # 2.
Showcase '93 #11-12
Knightfall Prodigal
Robin vol 2 #10, (DickRobin and TimRobin!) 175
Young Justice vol 1 #22
Teen Titans vol 3 #6
Bruce Wayne – Murderer and Fugitive
Birds of Prey #19
Batman: Gotham Knights # 8-11, 45

I'm going to skip post-Flashpoint because, well, there's hardly anything there. The worst thing with Flashpoint/New 52, in my opinion, was that it destroyed relationships between characters who used to be family, but ended up hardly knowing or even liking each other. :-(
Tumblr media
Detective Comics #975. By James Tynion IV, art Álvaro Martínez and Raúl Fernández.
The only panel worth mentioning with Dick and Tim is from DC #975. Yes, it's sad – one of the best brotherly relationships in DC turned into dust. Here's to hoping future writers will pick up on their wonderful dynamic at some time.
(The pictures in the header are from: Red Robin #12, Young Justice vol 1 #22, Showcase ‘93 #12, Batman #441, Nightwing vol 2 #6, 25.)
