> Chayton's story – part 1 <
In the vastness of the prairies lived the Lakota tribe. The heart of their culture was the Wakan Tanka, a sacred talisman passed down from generation to generation, granting the bearer not only physical strength and attractiveness but also a connection to the spirits of their ancestors. Chayton envied his older brother Mahkah for inheriting the talisman. He always felt overshadowed by his brother and desired both the respect of the tribe members and the power of the talisman.
One clear autumn evening, Chayton accompanied his brother on a hunt. Far from the ears of the other villagers Chayton seized a moment of Mahkah's carelessness. His fall from a cliff seemed suspicious to no one. Chayton returned with his brother's body, marked by apparent pain and sorrow. The unsuspecting villagers showed him compassion an he took over the Wakan Tanka.
As Chayton placed the talisman around his neck, he immediately felt a deep, pulsating warmth spreading throughout his entire body. The energy was overwhelming, almost electrifying, as it flooded his muscles. Initially, the change was subtle. Chayton noticed his arms becoming firmer, his shoulders broader. Every morning it seemed as if he had grown stronger overnight, a process that flattered his vanity and gave him a newfound confidence.
But something was different than expected. The voices of the ancestors, who according to tribal lore should only speak while the talisman was worn, fell silent as long as Chayton wore it. But as soon as he took it off, they began to whisper. They praised his progress and growing strength. "You make your ancestors proud, Chayton," they said. "You will be strong enough to lead our people." "You look great!" "Put the talisman back on to become even stronger." These words were soothing to his soul, feeding his pride.
