Content warning: mental health . . . . I did this belly blessing last Tuesday. I was so excited, nervous and delighted. This was my first major paid henna gig and I feel like I knocked it out of the park. I brought art, she loved it more than her inspo. The client moved, the baby moved and I compensated. By the end I had time to spare and gave my preggo princess turtles on her feet just for fun. She was thrilled and we all parted company smiling. But then the impostor syndrome stated to set in. Sure, it was a great gig, but you'll never see this type of work coming your way consistently. Sure, you did it this time, but there's no guarantee you'll be able to handle the next one. Maybe you acted too comfortable, maybe they didn't really like you. So I didn't manage to post this victory until today, a week later. It's so hard sometimes, feeling like successes are failures. But I'm learning and continuing to press on. 💣💥THIS IS SERIOUS, GUYS- I'm seeing all kinds of lash bars and salons offering " henna". If it doesnt look like this picture, there is NO HENNA IN IT! Henna is NEVER black! Henna never looks gel-like! Henna ,if is has chemicals in it, will sometimes look natural but will stain you red right away....this is also not henna. Henna needs 2-3 days to darken. Henna stains look orange at first. Henna smells good, grassy with essential oils....it should not smell bad! These lash bars are using a product that is not only cancer causing and dangerous, but is not LEGAL to put on skin. Real henna doesnt stain brows. Real henna would make brows orange, and would turn brown the next day and then wash away...it doesnt last. Only chemicals dye the face longer than a day or two. They import it in tubes that say henna. Real henna goes bad,and must be refrigerated. Dont believe what I say, RESEARCH what I say! What a trooper this brave mama is! Halfway through creating this design, mama starts having contractions. But she wants to push through it and finish the henna design for her. We had to pause everytime she had a contraction, so this ended up taking 3 hours to complete. She had many beautiful photos taken of her design, also while experiencing contractions (she's amazing). Then she asks me to do her hands and feet after 😯. I'm like "are you sure? You're in labor!" She says "let's do this!" ....
