I really went full rant on this one lol~ Had to put a keep reading bar on it because its a bit long...

To start off I'm a massive fan of the books and was beyond excited when they announced they were doing a spin-off about The Dance of the Dragons. Daemon was always a stand out character to me, and I couldn't wait to see him on screen. And when they cast Matt Smith, I... like a lot of people, didn't think he really fit the character.

I. Was. So. Wrong…

The moment I saw him, cocky as fuck, in full armor, I was completely hooked.

But it was more than just his looks that got me. His personality, the way he was so ruthless and so flirty at the same time was amazing. I love the way he's such a wild card, just so chaotic and charismatic.

Daemon's character is so complex and has a lot of layers to him, and I think Matt is amazing at portraying all of them. He just had this thing, this presence, and I was drawn to him instantly.

Is he a bad dude? Absolutely. But that makes him fun to watch. George R. R. Martin describes him as 'a man made of light and darkness in equal parts' and I think that sums up the character so perfectly. George also likes to write about a character being in conflict with themselves, and that's how I see Daemon. He's a bit of a mystery. He's a bad guy, but he's also not. He's a killer but he has his soft side.

I think he perfectly embodies what a Targaryen should be, in the books he's called the last dragonlord, and that's because he is such a nerd for his families unique culture, his brother Viserys loves to read all about the histories... but Daemon lives the lifestyle... He's hot and cold, he's dangerous and loving, he's the ultimate dragon loving bad boy… 

I also love the little moments where he seems like he's a genuinely good person, or tries to be, but his true nature always comes out in the end. There's just this vulnerability in him that makes you care about him, and I just want to give him a hug, and punch him at the same time.

&& Him and Rhaenyra.... I shouldn't like it... it's fucked up, its grooming... its incest... its really wrong... But... its so hot....

I don't want to get into spoilers for fire and blood, but his story ark is fucking incredible and how it ends for him is so insane and I can't wait to see it on screen!

Also, I just adore Matt Smith in everything he does, he so so so fucking talented!! Seeing him as the Doctor on Doctor Who, then Prince Phillip on the crown, and now House of the dragon... The man has incredible range (and he's the best thing about Morbius, he's the only one who understood what kind of movie he was in and he's a hilarious villain..) 

But, to summarize, I love him because he's sexy, funny, charismatic and one of the most complex and intriguing characters in the game of thrones universe.

Also, I have a weakness for any man in medieval armor...

I love Moffat's Doctor Who it's the best version of Doctor Who for me but we have honestly just outgrown old white nepo showrunners overall (plus poor Moffat had just the longest run because they couldn't find a replacement when he wanted to leave like twice honestly god bless him, he was writing for Who on his mother's deathbed man has done enough). RTD coming back was a necessary evil and I am okay with that if it revives the show but the wilderness years writers need to GO AWAY. I'm rooting for Juno Dawson, Kate Herron or Sarah Dollard of writers that have been on the show before to take over. But like anyone but Rusty, Moffat and Chinballs. I can enjoy Moffat coming back for one-offs though. As much as I personally disagree with the 'he's only good at one off's' take because he's really really a good showrunner to me and also wrote two of my favorite shows, he's good when he's gotten some sleep and time to work.

I mean absolutely we have outgrown old white nepo showrunners overall, I completely agree and literally the only reason (other than having written a couple of episodes before) Moffat got the job was because his mother in law is/was very high up in the BBC and that sort of attitude really needs to go. BBC shows have suffered a LOT for being very insular, and I'm also rooting for Juno Dawson, Kate Herron, and/or Sarah Dollard! They've written really really good episodes so far and I want to see more of their work!!

I'm glad you like Moffat's showrunning... I don't, and most of his showrunning of Doctor Who is not my favorite (I really, really liked Peter Capaldi's seasons but not how he handled Clara completely, and sorry to the masses but Matt Smith's seasons are my least favorite), so I'm sorry anon lol. I'm glad you get joy out of it though!

hello hello!! its time for the doctor who rankings again, today it's time for series 8!! really like this series guys not gonna lie :D again, these are my opinions and also just. mostly for my benefit but i post them here in case someone else is interested in my thoughts???

1. Listen (8x4) - oh how i love this episode guys, i love the opening already, peter capaldi was MADE for stuff like this, i think. i like the idea of a creature that has perfected hiding, i think that's interesting, and i love the ending with clara talking to the doctor as a kid, i love how we kinda still left it ambiguous whether this creature exists or not (i think it does, the creature that was on danny's bed didn't look like a human, even though we didn't see it clearly, but it's not 100% sure this creature is actually real). always love it when doctor who goes horror

2. Mummy on the Orient Express (8x8) - SO good, love this episode, i love the mystery of the mummy and i think a morally grey doctor was written well in this, i liked perkins a lot and kinda wished he had become a companion, and i liked the story. also the "are you my mummy" heritage still going strong lmao

3. Flatline (8x9) - SO GOOD!! i love the idea of creatures that are in 2D that's interesting, i like clara and there are so many hilarious things in this, personally i died permanently when clara just pulled the hammer from the bag and went "apparently they're in the walls", it was so funny to me lol, yeah, brilliant i think

4. Deep Breath (8x1) - does the beginning with clara feel a bit weird considering she has literally seen every regeneration of the doctor's and knows how it works? yeah. but i get where they're going with it and why it is there, because the audience has just lost the previous doctor, who is this new guy here why is he so different, how can he suddenly be so old?? the kids who might have started watching with matt smith might say, and i get that clara is now acting as the audience, i don't mind it. and i like the scene with vastra and clara. and the second half of the episode is brilliant, i love clara with the robot. guys. i don't remember if they had a name sorry guys lol. but she was great. i really think she's so much better in this series than in series 7. and this episode also has some really funny moments, i had so much fun following the doctor's adventures, and i love jenny, vastra and strax as people might notice from the previous posts. i LOVE them. miss them every day i want them back i hate that this is their last appearance on tv :( but yeah, a great introduction to the new doctor, dare i even say better than the eleventh hour are we ready for that conversation??

5. Dark Water/Death in Heaven (8x11/8x12) - always love meeting kate even if she's in a small role, live laugh love kate lethbridge-stewart if she got no fans i'm dead. anyway, i like finally meeting missy properly, she's great and i enjoyed the doctor and her together. i think the cliffhanger is good and i personally am a danny pink defender, i was sad that he died, he wasn't my favourite character but i didn't hate him like most people seem to do lol. i also think the cybermen are alright and the nod to the brigadier and the doctor saluting him is really nice i think

6. Time Heist (8x5) - it's a nice story, i like the concept and the teller is an interesting creature in my opinion, i like the time travel heist stuff and i like psi and saibra, i think it's great and seems a bit underappreciated in the fandom? or have i just not seen people talk about it? i don't know

7. Robot of Sherwood (8x3) - this was actually pretty good fun, i laughed so many times watching this, and even though the story isn't the best in my opinion, i think this is still very fun and enjoyable and i had a great time watching it. robin hood and the doctor's dynamic was actually pretty hilarious

8. The Caretaker (8x6) - i must say, this made me laugh a few times, i think it's fun, and i like clara and danny's relationship stuff here, i think the dynamic between the doctor and danny is interesting, but the story itself isn't the best and i don't think it's anything special

9. Into the Dalek (8x2) - now i get what this story is going for and how we start exploring the question of whether the doctor is a good man or not is great, i like that theme, and i personally like that last excange with the doctor and the dalek, how the doctor says that hatred isn't victory and the double meaning of "a good dalek". but even though steven moffat is 100% one of my favourite doctor who writers, something i must say that he doesn't get right are the daleks, i don't think he gets them. i think he sees them just plainly as evil angry tanks, which they're not, yes they're obviously evil, but they do have sort of personality, they're occasionally sassy and think themselves to be cleverer than they are, and i don't think moffat gets their characterisation right

10. In the Forest of the Night (8x10) - i don't hate it but it's not good either. it's pretty boring because our characters are just randomly running around a forest, which i do think can be done well, but this wasn't. i found clara and danny's relationship stuff to be okay and i think it was so sweet the kids shipped them lol, and i do think that the fact that this had so much of them being kinda happy makes danny's death in the next episode more sad. and i did 100% pick up on the message about protecting trees, which is indeed important, and i liked that the trees were protecting the earth and that children made the message to everyone like young people do today with the climate change, i think that's something that's good about this story.

11. Kill the Moon (8x7) - i don't completely hate it, it's got a few kinda funny lines and i think it did the morally grey doctor thing well, and i love the ending with clara. but the anti-abortion message is not it, and you know i'm giving the writer the benefit of the doubt, because i can 100% see an another way to interpret the story, that humans want to destroy things that they don't know about and we should instead give them a chance because it could be a good thing, but the way some things are worded in the story are just giving anti-abortion message. and i personally wasn't a fan of the random astronaut and the story as a whole just wasn't for me. though i think the morally grey doctor is done well, it feels kinda weird that he just. disappears mid story, i don't know, but yeah, not a fan

I’d like to in advance apologize for ranting it just seems to me that you may be one of the few people who actually like Nettles 😊. So I’m not gonna lie I was expecting more from the trailer(s). I mean I knew I wasn’t gonna get to see Nettles (I genuinely am obsessed with the idea of her being the only non-Valyrian dragonrider, I’m equally obsessed with stories in general when people (especially women) live in a society that usually counts them out or that they’re very low in the food chain in to becoming powerful + gaining agency and respect, and it heals my inner black girl when I see black women in fantasy) (anything to be honest because it seems as though we’re always done wrong either by narrative or fandom) (I’m also not opposed to her being a “witch” because if done properly it could be done in an interesting thing and tie into the magic that was used in the beginning to tie dragons to people) (though knowing this fandom they’d probably start coming up with their special “takes” about how she tricked/ r/ped Daemon into being with her 🙄 and will block you if you point out that’s the same thing they praise Alys Rivers for allegedly doing (I say allegedly because that’s awful and truly horrific and I hope neither Nettles or Alys are shown doing this) (speaking of Nettles and Daemon….🫠 lol I don’t really like Daemon (I’m 50/50 on book!Daemon mostly because I don’t get to know what he’s thinking which created a disconnect and I don’t like show!Daemon at all. He did a lot for a little in my opinion, and because I don’t know his thought process he just kinda comes off as a bit of a c*nt just to be one because it makes him “edgy” and a “bad boy” and while I don’t find Matt Smith unattractive he’s not exactly what I consider to be such a panty dropper that I can like Daemon) the age gap and power dynamic also raised both my eye brows but at the end of the day it’s fantasy, so different rules apply, and most importantly despite the discourse over certain (platonic, romantic, or sexual) aspects of their relationship it’s very clear that the two cared/loved one another) (anyway 🤞🏾 we’ll get her next season) but it seemed as though for the Team Green and Team Black trailers they just showed the same scenes in different order. And while there’s a lot more dragon action going on, it doesn’t feel like dialogue from different scenes forming a compelling trailer it feels as though multiple characters are just narrating I don’t know maybe I’m reaching. And personally I’m neither Team Green or Team Black but I still liked Team Green’s trailer more especially when Aegon (looking completely unhinged) said “to war then.” I don’t know I just remember thinking “he looks crazy as shit” lol. In general I’m kinda 50/50 with HOTD. I watched the first season because I like fantasy shows and at that point I had just finished up GOT and was getting started on the books. So having no prior knowledge to how it was gonna go it was entertaining enough. Then I read Fire and Blood (which interestingly enough I didn’t know was a history book….🫠) and was really invested in how they were going to adapt the actual Dance and I feel like I’m just getting into the ASOIAF fandom (steered clear of it back in the day because it seemed too unhinged) but it seems completely unhinged, misogynistic, racist, and really odd when it comes to the subject of blood purity.

The Nettles fandom is extremely small, and I'm off in my little corner of said fandom because I think I’m the only Nettles fan who genuinely loves Daemon(which is fun).

He is a lot though and their relationship is somewhat problematic, but yeah you have to keep in mind that this is all just fantasy. And you can’t forget that Daemon does care for her and he is the one who saves her. The good ultimately outweighs the bad in their relationship.

That being said, Nettles is a fantastic character in her own right and deserves all of her props. And yeah it’s nice to see a Black girl in the medieval fantasy genre, but irregardless of race, she falls into my favorite category of characters for women.

Been through a lot, people doubt them, and yet they still overcome and get their happily ever after, sign me up 🙌🏽

As far as the witch thing goes, it could be interesting, but I find it cliché and ultimately demeaning and limiting. Not only because of the situation with Daemon(turning her into some Jezebel is a no-go), but it also takes away from her claiming of Sheepstealer. Instead of her wit she has to have used magic because there is no way someone like her could claim a dragon.

That would ruin the essence of a character that is supposed to show that it’s not our blood or some supernatural superpower that makes us, it’s us.

Honestly, I don’t think that the show will go this way with her character since they’ve already faced backlash for what they did with Laena, Rhaena, and Baela back in season 1. Playing into another trope with a Black-ish woman(voodoo mama Jezebel) will only make them look all the more like the racist jackasses they are.

Now for the trailer and upcoming season, It doesn’t spark any excitement within me. The show as a whole is just kinda meh(and the lack of Nettles isn’t helping).

HOTD is a far cry from the early days of GOT(which followed much more closely to the books). There is the issue that the show is based on historical text, but not everything in that was a lie like the show is trying to claim.

I don’t like the blatant whitewashing being done and then claiming they’re championing diversity and female empowerment while treating all their Black, particularly the Black-ish female characters, like shit.

Lastly there is the fandom. While racism and misogynoir are not limited to the HOTD fandom these fans really do act batshit insane.

I can’t take anybody who claims that a Black character should be cut because there are already enough Black people on the show then starts crying when they get called out for their racism and claiming they are being wrongly accused seriously.

And of course, we can’t forget the ones trying to save Nettles from the evil white man—while completely ignoring the one who tries to turn her into a hate crime statistic for the sake of the sisterhood…

(That is all I can say without being metaphorically stoned for not pushing Nettles under the bus for a racist white woman who tried to kill her so I'll leave it there, feminism am I right).

As I have said before, if I wasn’t already here I’d take one look at this hellhole, and a running I’d go, but alas. I am unfortunately invested in this circus so here I am 🤷🏽‍♀️

Happy wip wednesday everyone :3

Recently got inspired by fantasy again of course so did some quick drawings of my original characters

I thought it’d be a fun art challenge to draw some of my fantasy oc’s in the style of Fear and Hunger so I am currently working on that right now alongside other things just chipping away at it in the background when I need to take a break from other things, the two characters I have sketched so far are Rosa and Cora they are sister witches from the same academy Cora being an elf battle witch while Rosa is a bunny girl (need a name for her people) whose focus is on hexes, wards and healing, she is more academically minded as opposed to someone who goes in to battle

My next piece is my original character main focus character I did for OCtober last year, she’s my little bunny witch girl i should do a whole bio for her soon tbh. I also want to do a write up of the witches academy she is from and other characters that are from it.

Even though I got completely distracted by my fantasy stuff (again lol…yes it happens all the time yes it’s a real problem) lol but I still made progress on my Signalis fanart, enjoying how it’s coming along so far but still not done yet i really feel like that piece has helped me with my colour theory though making a more unified colour palette

Recently finished showing my boyfriend the 10th doctors Seasons on doctor who he loved it btw we’re already on to Matt Smith and he loves him too!) and so I got inspired to do a little experimental painting of the 10th doctor but I am so struggling with capturing David Tenants likeness I’ve got to keep trying but there’s the rough sketch for now

What other projects have you watched with got and hotd actors and how do you like their performance outside of got/hotd?

I’ve watched probably….most of Matt Smith’s filmography on account of watching Doctor Who in high school and falling in love with him. I think he’s incredibly talented and charismatic and genuinely perfect casting as Daemon. I had also seen Paddy Considine in that movie Pride altho I didn’t recognize him as Viserys lmao but i adore that movie, you should watch if you haven’t seen it, it’s about the Lesbians And Gays Support The Miners movement and I definitely cried watching it aksjdjd. I also watched all of bates motel as it was airing which olivia is in (and also the sound of metal, which she and riz ahmed are amazing in, and also riz steven and chadwick were robbed that year smh). olivia and matt are actually The Reason i started hotd lol i didn’t intend to watch it but then i was like oh…..but……….i love them aksjsjs.

I have technically seen Rhys in several things but he’s Fine. I am still mad about him having zero chemistry with Lucy Liu in Elementary and ruining an entire season by having negative rizz. why am i supposed to believe that man is like some great love of watson’s life when they don’t even look like they like each other. rhys count your fuckijg days. i’ve also seen graham mactavish in a number of things, the first being Outlander and he was like, one of the best antagonist characters in the show, was both excited and devastated when his character died hah he has one of my favorite lines in the show which is “the idea of grinding your corn does tickle me” 💀💀😂😂

For the main show, I had seen Charles Dance in Phantom (he’s really good even tho it’s a more romantic take on the story but that’s fine i still love it!!!), Lena, Peter, & Mark in like Most Of Their Filmographies bc i was already a fan of them, who hasn’t seen at least five Sean Bean deaths, and I’d seen a few Alexander Siddig, Ciaran Hinds, Iain Glenn, & Indira Varma in a bunch of stuff too and loved them - Kingdom of Heaven & Syriana & DS9, Persuasion & The Terror, Resident Evil, Kama Sutra.

I’ve seen Gwendoline, Elyes (he was Rakharo, rip to an icon), Thomas Brodie, Sophie, Maisie, Kit, Richard, Jason (Momoa), Michelle, and Tobias in a bunch of other stuff since I started the show. I think Gwendoline is incredibly talented, as are Sophie and Maisie. Richard imo usually needs a good script to shine - like Rocketman? amazing. Eternals? Meh - and Kit is uh. Sometimes he has good chemistry with other actors. I paid real money to see him in Pompeii and my sibling holds a grudge against me to this day for that one aksjd. Jason Momoa has a tendency to just play different versions of himself but the movie Red Road Redemption is real good, it’s about MMIW & his acting abilities really shine, I’d love to see him in more serious or more romantic roles and less action roles. I cannot praise Tobias Menzies more highly, hes in Outlander, The Terror, and the Crown and he’s just sublime in all of them and you’d never know it by the way they wrote Edmure. OH SHIT also obviously Jacob Artist in IWTV is amazinnnnnnng EGOT INCOMING and Nathalie Emmanuel was REALLY FUN in The Invitation!!!

Probably my favorite of everyone is Peter Dinklage tho, he’s very serious & choosy with his roles bc he doesn’t want to play a stereotype and it’s made his filmography just *muah* like it’s so interesting and varied and he puts his whole heart into every role however goofy or serious it is. i love him, i want him to be the romantic lead in more stuff bc i’m a romantic and also like, a pervert and he’s so handsome aksksk.

"Do people even still watch music videos?" Peter asked as he stared at his reflection, carefully applying eyeliner.

Thorne clucked his tongue, elbowing Peter, which nearly resulted in an eye poke with the little pencil. "Course they do! Sure, it ain't as often on TV, since all the music channels seem to be nothin' but reality shows now, but youtube's the place to post 'em anyway!"

"And why do I need to be in this?" Peter asked, putting the pencil down and grabbed for the hair spray to help give his hair a bit more lift. He could see the poor makeup artist in the reflection of the mirror, not sure of what to do.

Peter had dismissed her, telling her he could do his own stuff. He sighed and turned to face her, gesturing to Thorne. "Just doll up his face, fucker needs to hide the bags under his eyes anyway."

"Excuse you, did ya wake up on the bitchy side of the bed today?" Thorne huffed as he sat down in a chair and the makeup artist came over, getting her stuff ready for the diva.

"You know how I woke up, pissed and annoyed that I got asked at the literal last second to be in this stupid music video. Don't know why I need to be, I'm sure there are a lot of other gothic people you can pester."

"Yeah, but none of 'em can pull off those painted on leather trousers like you can, sweetheart."

Peter coughed hard when he sprayed the can again, startled by the boldness of his flirting, and right in front of people too! "For fuck's sake..." He coughed again, setting aside the can.

He knew he looked good in leather pants, but God damn, Thorne did not need to say it like that, especially when there were people around. They were barely open about the relationship as it was, didn't need the rumor mill goin' batshit over this. "I better get a hell of a paycheck for this." Peter snapped, walking over to where the wardrobe person was.

They were quick to hand the outfit bag with Peter's name on it to him, looking anywhere else but at him. He ignored the cackling from the idiot in the chair behind him and snatched the bag. "Gonna get dressed, hopefully you'll be mature when I get back!"

"No promises~!" Thorne called out in a sing-song way as Peter left the area.

Filming wasn't exactly... going well.

Whatever was meant to happen in this video seemed to result in a lot of pauses because Thorne was getting too handsy with the actors in it.

Well, he was mainly handsy with one, and that was Peter. Far too often Peter had hands on his thighs, his mesh-shirt covered chest, and five times he had his ass grabbed. Hard. Granted, Peter would be all for this normally, but not on camera, not in front of so many other people, and not when he was basically sober.

"You're makin' what was supposed to be a few hours into a fuckin' full day thing, Jamison!" Peter snapped when the exhausted director called for a ten minute break.

"'s not my fault you're a tease in those pants." Thorne grinned. "They really give your ass some much love, practically a compliment."

"You're the idiot that had them picked out for me!"

"And I was right in my choice. I know what looks good on a guy." Thorne said with pride. Then he leaned in close, his eyes sharp and hungry. "And I know I'm gonna have so much fun takin' 'em off you when we're finally finished today."

Peter snorted. "Yeah, but only if we actually finish this stupid shoot, which you keep delayin'."

Thorne pulled back, shrugging, smiling. "I'll behave. For now."

Peter doubted that.

9 has been my favorite doctor for as long as i can remember lol gonna be honest, it's probably because he's always reminded me a little bit of my dad. he died when i was 14 and when i started watching doctor who a while later, the little similarities i found were comforting and it has been like that for years now.

also, the team of him, rose, jack, and mickey was one of my favorite dynamics ever. they were so fun and amazing together and i loved seeing them so much.

11 is a close second, i absolutely adored matt smith's portrayal of the doctor!! and i totally agree with you when it comes to 13. i was actually so excited when they announced jodie whittaker because omg first female doctor??? and i think she did an amazing job and i love how she truly made the character her own.

when it comes to companions, i think my top three are amy, rose, and clara. the dynamics they had with the doctor(s) were always so entertaining and their character arcs were super interesting, especially amy's.

so yeah, as you can see, my faves are a little all over the place so it's kinda hard for me to pick a favorite era lol i just love all of them in a different way and it's hard to choose.

also, a little insane over your thoughts. i agree with you on so much. like, the amount of chance meetings and coincidences and small moments that can connect and influence our lives is fucking crazy. and a lot of it just has to do with love and it's devastatingly beautiful.

9 is a really good doctor!! I agree that the team w/ him, Rose, Jack, and Mickey was honestly amazing. Clara!! How could I forget to mention Clara? I loved her lmao.

yeah.. yeah a lot of it does have to do with love and care and it makes me really emotional.. and we've found paintings in caves from so many millenia ago, and we taught rovers how to sing happy birthday to themselves, and the Golden Record.. the Golden Record makes me really emotional.

Because we sent Voyager 1 away from Earth with it's end goal being out of the Solar System. And what added a Golden Record. And what did we put on that record? We put greetings in 55 different languages.. all of them along the lines of "hi. we are from earth. we hope you're doing well. we want to meet you." And we put the calls of animals and the sound of rain and the sound of laughter. We put sounds of a mother and child. We put pictures of people from all over the earth from so many cultures just.. being people. We took this record going into space, and we said, no, don't put war or hunger or famine or that in this. we said, don't let us be remembered for the darkest parts of our existence—let us be known for the best parts of this world. let our legacy—the one that will still be out there even when our solar system is gone—be a legacy of compassion and beauty.

I agree with you over the previous anon. I haven't watched his previous tv shows but i saw him in a zombie apocalypse movie and he scared me in that eventhough he was the good guy there. He seems like a good actor.

I dont get it how ppl saw how daemon went on a rampage in kingslanding in the first episode and think he is a good guy . That guy looked deranged and scary to me. (Like cops drunk on power, with no checks on hey the ones we are hurting did they actually do whatever we think they did?)

Also I've seen a bunch of ppl say matt smith delivered the heir for a day super sadly and they cut it, but that actually is who he is (daemon is a terrible person even to his family). I'm wondering is an actor allowed to change the tone of the scene say from mocking to sad?(obviously they cut it but still seems weird he didn't follow it)

LOL I love the interpretation of Daemon as a dirty cop because it feels so apropos but also so weird. His behavior towards young Rhaenyra was what really made him a creep to me, so in that sense I guess it is comprehensible because a lot of people straight ship them AKA are not going to be weirded out by whole ass adult Matt Smith creeping on his far younger niece. And it could definitely be true that Matt Smith delivered the line in different ways, that is pretty standard for a lot of actors/scenes so the editors have a variety of shit to choose from when editing, but that doesn't mean that it was "supposed" to be that way it just means that the showrunners wanted to have options when the episode got to the editing stage/they wouldn't have to reshoot anything if they decided to take things in a different direction.

this is yushi he used to have a brother named mochi but he got hit my a van and i will never stop mourning him. the right most pic is yushi (left) and mochi (right)

(i went into the depth to look for a photo of mochi and then i realized i didnt have any anymore, and then when i found some i started crying because i was mochi's favorite and he didnt deserve what happened to him i miss him so much im so sad i cant stop crying hold on) i found the last video and photo i had of him but he had a gaping wound in it so im not going to add it T_T

the story of how we got him is pretty long, but i'll tell you to distract from my sobs. so we have a stray girl cat in our neighborhood and im pretty sure yushi got her pregnant lol thats so funny to say but its true.

this was jinjin when we got him (he fell from the roof and had a broken leg but we didnt have money to bring him to the vet so i just gave him a makeshift cast and prayed he'd get better (he did)) he was so skinny and touch deprived T_T im crying again but he's better now

What Did I Pick?

This is the first month that I've ever been interested in every one of Book of the Month's Main Picks. Several Add-Ons also caught my attention. Plus, I still have several backlist titles I want to get soon! All of this means it was quite difficult to narrow my list down to the books I most wanted. In the end, I went with the books that I'm currently most in the mood to read.

First, I picked A Song to Drown Rivers. I love fantasy retellings and this one sounds beautiful and like something that I will love. The Crimson Crown was also an easy pick because it is also a fantasy retelling and is sapphic! I picked Phantasma since the Fall always puts me in the mood for gothic novels and I'm intrigued by a paranormal romance that is good enough to get Book of the Month's attention.

I've never read a Matt Haig book but I've wanted to, so I will be starting with The Impossible Life.

Finally, I got The Hacienda from the backlist. As I said, I love a good gothic novel in the Fall and I plan to read this one this month!

Someone in the Attic and Sleep Tight are two that I really wish I could have gotten. I'm planning on getting them next month. I've been reading a lot of horror and thrillers lately but I'm taking a little break in September so I don't get burned out on the genre before Spooky Season! Lots of the other books went on my TBR!

i tend to be very fond of the introspective character study, and i know this about myself. what interests me the most about writing is getting inside a character's head, and especially when i'm first figuring a character out, i really love that vibey kind of introspective thing that doesn't necessarily have a plot. i like healing and growth, and — i'm not sure anyone reading my stuff would be surprised to find that i have my education and training in the field of psychology, where all that stuff is concerned.

i also feel like i've written about ghost imagery a lot across fandoms (peacemaker becomes convenient for this, for the... literal manifestation of a ghost), but i tend to like that as, like — accepting that we carry the ghosts of our pasts with us, and we have to find a way to live with that, which is a journey i like to take characters on. grief/trauma/healing, becoming aware of self-sabotage, those are the types of things i'm interested in.

there's a lot of character-specific imagery, too — i'm sure there are things you can track depending on the pov character — but it really just depends!

do you have a fic you started, but scrapped?

pours one out for the cosmic marvel star wars au, which i had such a vision for, but then i had a fatigue episode and i just never came back to it 😔 i don't consider it completely scrapped, or really any of my old ideas that i haven't touched in a while, so i reserve the right to come back one day! but i do still think back on that one really fondly.

i've got another longer idea in the works right now that i will probably spend more of my time on in the near future, but. BUT.

what made you start writing?

honestly, i can't even remember; i've been creating stories since i was a little kid. the first story i ever wrote was in kindergarten about a flying squirrel who went through history — and i won an award for it and read it at the mall lol i've been doing both original stuff and fan fic in some capacity since high school, and just... if there's a story to be told, i want to be there to do it.

as far as, like, fan fic stuff is concerned, i definitely got started with writing as i know it now via fandoms of big 2 comics and their adaptations, because by nature of the beast, there's always something left unresolved — so bigtime story fodder for me.

who is your favorite character to write?

i can't narrow this down to just one, so i'm going to name a few.

peter parker, who is probably my og blorbo, and i still have a lot of fun weaving his humor in with how he deals with life.

gamora, the blorbo who got me back into comics like 5-6 years ago, whom i love writing because there's her hard edges and the softness underneath them if you know where to look.

rich rider, because i see a lot of myself in him, and it's satisfying to take on his own journey of healing.

chris smith, for his huge heart under layers of toxic bullshit thrown at him and his own attempts to push people away. also i can make him say incredibly stupid shit and it's 100% in-character, lmao

adrian chase, because his brain is fucking fascinating, and he's this contradiction of being earnestly sweet and also incredibly aware of his environment and absolutely lethal. also same as above with chris re: making him say stupid shit and it's in-character.

matt murdock, who is another character i see some of myself in, both for better and for worse, and writing from his pov presents both challenge and opportunity (lack of ability to use visuals, but SO much sensory imagery)

hi. on your post where you may or may not have ended on 'moffat is either your angel or your devil' did you have maybe an elaboration on that somewhere that i could possibly hear about. i'm very much a capaldi era stan and i've never tried to defend the matt smith era even though it had delightful moments sometimes so i wonder where that puts me. i'd love to hear your perspective on moffat as a person with your political perspective. -nicole

hi ok sorry i took so long to respond to this but i dont think you know how LOADED this question is for me but i am so happy to elaborate on that for you. first a few grains of salt to flavor your understanding of the whole situation: a. im unfairly biased against moffat bc im a davies stan and a tennant stan; b. i still very much enjoy and appreciate moffat era who for many reasons; and c. i hate moffat on a personal level far more than i could ever hate his work.

the thing is that its all always gonna be a bit mixed up bc i have to say a bunch of seemingly contradictory things in a row. for instance, a few moffat episodes are some of my absolute favorites of the rtd era, AND the show went way downhill when moffat took over, AND the really good episodes he wrote during the rtd era contained the seeds of his destruction.

like i made that post about the empty child/the doctor dances and it holds true for blink and thats about it bc the girl in the fireplace and silence in the library/forest of the dead are good but not nearly on the same level, and despite the fact that i like them at least nominally, they are also great examples of everything i hate about moffat and how he approached dw as a whole.

basically. doctor who is about people. there are many things about moffats tenure as showrunner that i think are a step up from rtd era who! actual gay people, for one! but i think that can likely be attributed mostly to an evolving Society as opposed to something inherent to him and his work, seeing as rtd is literally gay, and the existence of queer characters in moffats work doesnt mean the existence of good queer characters (ill give him bill but thats it!)

i have a few Primary Grievances with moffat and how he ran dw. all of them are things that got better with capaldi, but didnt go away. they are as follows:

moffat projects his own god complex onto the doctor

rtd era who had a doctor with a god complex. you cant ever be the doctor and not have a god complex. the problem with moffats era specifically is that the god complex was constant and unrepentant and was seen as a fundamental personality trait of the doctor rather than a demon he has to fight. he has the Momence where you feel bad for him, the Momence where he shows his humility or whatever and youre reminded that he doesnt want to be the lonely god, but those are just. moments. in a story where the doctor thinks hes the main character. rtd era doctor was aware that he wasnt the main character. he had to be an authority sometimes and he had to be the loner and he had to be sad about it, but he ultimately understood that he was expendable in a narrative sense.

this is how you get lines like “were the thin fat gay married anglican marines, why would we need names as well?” from the same show that gave you the gut punch moment at the end of midnight when they realize that nobody asked the hostess for her name. and on the one hand, thats a small sticking point, but on the other hand, its just one small example of the simple disregard that moffat has for humanity.

incidentally, this is a huge part of why sherlock sucked so bad: moffats main characters are special bc theyre so much bigger and better than all the normal people, and thats his downfall as a showrunner. he thinks that his audience wants fucking sheldon cooper when what they want is people.

like, ok. think of how many fantastic rtd era eps are based in the scenario “what if the doctor wasnt there? what if he was just out of commission for a bit?” and how those eps are the heart of the show!! bc theyre about people being people!! the thing is that all of the rtd era companions would have died for the doctor but he understood and the story understood that it wasnt about him.

this is like. nine sending rose home to save her life and sacrifice his own vs clara literally metaphysically entwining her existence w the doctor. ten also sending rose with her family to save her life vs river being raised from infancy to be obsessed w the doctor and then falling in love w him. martha leaving bc she values herself enough to make that decision vs amy being treated like a piece of meat.

and this is simultaneously a great callback to when i said that moffats episodes during the rtd era sometimes had the same problems as his show running (bc girl in the fireplace reeks of this), and a great segue into the next grievance.

moffat hates women

he hates women so fucking much. g-d, does steven moffat ever hate women. holy shit, he hates women. especially normal human women who prioritize their normal human lives on an equal or higher level than the doctor. moffat hated rose bc she wasnt special by his standards. the empty child/the doctor dances is the nicest he ever treated her, and she really didnt do much in those eps beyond a fuck ton of flirting.

girl in the fireplace is another shining example of this. youve got rose (who once again has another man to keep her busy, bc moffat doesnt think shes good enough for the doctor) sidelined for no reason only to be saved by the doctor at the last second or whatever. and then youve got reinette, who is pretty and powerful and special!

its just. moffat thinks that the doctor is as shallow and selfish as he is. thats why he thinks the doctor would stay in one place with reinette and not with rose. bc moffat is shallow and sees himself in the doctor and doesnt think he should have to settle for someone boring and normal.

not to mention rose met the doctor as an adult and chose to stay with him whereas reinette is. hm. introduced to the doctor as a child and grows up obsessed with him.

does that sound familiar? it should! bc it is also true of amy and river. and all of them are treated as viable romantic pairings. bc the only women who deserve the doctor are the ones whose entire existence revolves around him. which includes clara as well.

genuinely i think that at least on some level, not even necessarily consciously, that bill was a lesbian in part bc capaldi was too old to appeal to mainstream shippers. like twelve/clara is still a thing but not as universally appealing as eleven/clara but i am just spitballing. but i think they weighed the pros and cons of appealing to the woke crowd over the het shippers and found that gay companion was more profitable. anyway the point is to segue into the next point, which is that moffat hates permanent consequences.

steven moffat does not know how to kill a character. honestly it feels like hes doing it on purpose after a certain point, like he knows he has this habit and hes trying to riff on it to meme his own shit, but it doesnt work. it isnt funny and it isnt harmless, its bad writing.

the end of the doctor dances is so poignant and so meaningful and so fucking good bc its just this once! everybody lives, just this once! and then he does p much the same thing in forest of the dead - this one i could forgive, bc i do think that preserving those peoples consciousnesses did something for the doctor as a character, it wasnt completely meaningless. but everything after that kinda was.

rory died so many times its like. get a hobby lol. amy died at least once iirc but it was all a dream or something. clara died and was erased from the doctors memory. river was in prison and also died. bill? died. all of them sugarcoated or undone or ignored by the narrative to the point of having effectively no impact on the story. the point of a major character death is that its supposed to have a point. and you could argue that a piece of art could be making a point with a pointless death, ie. to put perspective on it and remind you that bad shit just happens, but with moffat the underlying message is always “i can do whatever i want, nothing is permanent or has lasting impact ever.”

basically, with moffat, tragedy exists to be undone. and this was a really brilliant, really wonderful thing in the doctor dances specifically bc it was the doctor clearly having seen his fair share of tragedy that couldnt be helped, now looking on his One Win with pride and delight bc he doesnt get wins like this! and then moffat proceeded to give him the same win over and over and over and over. nobody is ever dead. nobody is ever unable to be saved. and if they are, really truly dead and/or gone, then thats okay bc moffat has decided that [insert mitigating factor here]*

*the mitigating factor is usually some sort of computerized database of souls.

i can hear the moffat stans falling over themselves to remind me that amy and rory definitely died, and they did - after a long and happy life together, they died of old age. i dont consider that a character death any more than any other character choosing to permanently leave the tardis.

and its not just character deaths either, its like, everything. the destruction of gallifrey? never mind lol! character development? scrapped! the same episode four times? lets give it a fifth try and hope nobody notices. bc he doesnt know how to not make the doctor either an omnipotent savior or a self-pitying failure.

it is in nature of doctor who, i believe, for the doctor to win most of the time. like, it wouldnt be a very good show if he didnt win most of the time. but it also wouldnt be a very good show if he won all of the time. my point is that moffats doctor wins too often, and when he doesnt win, it feels empty and hollow rather than genuinely humbling, and you know hes not gonna grow from it pretty much at all.

so like. again, i like all of doctor who i enjoy all of it very much. i just think that steven moffat is a bad show runner and a decent writer at times. and it is frustrating. and im not here to convince or convert anyone im just living my truth. thank you for listening.
