Deadline EXCLUSIVE:
The Crown’s Imelda Staunton  will still star as matchmaker Dolly Levi in musical Hello, Dolly! in London’s West End, but fans will have to wait until the summer of 2024.
The actress will make her her first appearance as Queen Elizabeth II in Netflix drama The Crown on November 9.
Tumblr media
She signed on to play Dolly in Jerry Herman’s famous show back in 2019. Originally planned to open in 2020, it was delayed by both the pandemic and the star’s workload on Season 5 of The Crown.
👑 She’s currently filming The Crown season 6 for a 2023 release date.

Downton Abbey‘s final act appears to be nigh. A third and final film in Julian Fellowes’ storied historical franchise is in the pipeline, co-star Imelda Staunton revealed to BBC Radio’s Zoe Ball.
“There will be [a] final final,” the actress behind Lady Maud Bagshaw confirmed on Wednesday.
The news comes roughly two years after the release of Downton Abbey: A New Era, which followed the Crawleys and their staff as they welcomed a movie crew to Downton for the filming of a new silent film, while other members of the family embarked on a grand adventure to a villa in the south of France to uncover a mystery about the Dowager Countess.
The second pic starred Downton mainstays Hugh Bonneville, Laura Carmichael, Jim Carter, Raquel Cassidy, Brendan Coyle, Michelle Dockery, Kevin Doyle, Michael Fox, Joanne Froggatt, Harry Hadden-Paton, Robert James-Collier, Allen Leech, Phyllis Logan, Elizabeth McGovern, Sophie McShera, Tuppence Middleton, Lesley Nichol, Maggie Smith, Penelope Wilton and the aforementioned Staunton.
Shortly after A New Era‘s release, Bonneville suggested that franchise fatigue was setting in.
“I suspect, on a practical level, it’s run its course now,” the actor told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “I think [A New Era] was a good time to quit.”
Bonneville went on to call A New Era a “joyous” potential conclusion, “and such a good note on which to end the story,” before adding, “There’s still open doors in it, but I think it might be the right time to stop.”

There will be a third and final Downton Abbey film, according to Imelda Staunton, who appeared in the first two films as Queen Mary's lady-in-waiting Maud Bagshaw, told BBC Radio 2 that the casting returned for a third film. "There will be the final movie - and that's it," Staunton told radio host Zoe Ball, who responded: "Wow, that's pretty huge. I hope we didn't get you in trouble." “I don’t care,” Staunton replied. In addition to two feature films, one in 2019 and the other in 2022, Downton ran for six seasons from 2010 to 2016 on PBS. Reports suggest a third film will begin production this summer, although neither Focus Features, which distributed the previous two Downton Abbey films, nor a representative for Neame responded to EW's request for confirmation. Presumably, a third film would pick up somewhere after A New Era ended in the late 1920s

Another! Yeesssss!
Will There Be a Third Downton Abbey Movie?
Downton Abbey: A New Era isn't the end of the Downton universe.
Athird Downton Abbey movie is officially in the works. Actress Imelda Staunton, who played Queen Mary’s lady-in-waiting, Lady Maud Bagshaw, in the first two movies confirmed the exciting news in March of 2024.
“There will be the final film—there you go,” Staunton said in an interview with BBC Radio 2 breakfast show host Zoe Ball. At this point, no other details about the film have been shared publicly—other than it's happening! But as soon as we know anything about a premiere date, the plot, and which characters are set to return to the screen, we will be sure to update this post.
Rumors about another chapter in the Crawley family's story have swirled since the second film premiered in 2022. "Honestly, I thought the fifth was the last series," creator Julian Fellowes told Town & Country at the time, when asked about the possibility of additional sequels. "Then I thought the sixth was the end of them. Then I thought the first movie was the goodbye. Who knows?"
The Downton Abbey creator continued, "If there's a big demand and everyone wants them back, I suppose I certainly wouldn't say no, because I've long since come to terms with the fact that, when I die, Downton will be the main item in any article about me going. So I might as well continue the ride for as long as it goes. But I don't know. I think it's an audience decision, really."
