Dragon Age discourse nose dived off a steep hill so Baldur's Gate 3 discourse could walk up the hill, loudly declare they're better, then tumble down the exact same way.

Me desperately trying to find this so-called "bias" it often feels like a solid two thirds of this fandom claim that the HotD producers/writers have towards Rhaenyra when literally every single change to other characters has fundamentally come from minimizing/obfuscating/or otherwise reducing her narrative and overall characterization and character.
Yes, I'm sure this woman who they have invented continual bad decisions, internalized misogyny, blatant disregard for the people closest to her, ineptitude, blindspots, and blatant, borderline unbelievable public disdain for in their adaptation of her character; who's background as a victim of child abuse, of continual misogynistic psychological and eventual physical violence, who's love of both other women and her own womanhood, infamy in her charm and popularity and continual attempts (and yes, often failures) to rise above the positions she was forced into they have also ERASED...is actually someone they're going out of their way to portray sympathetically?
Oh, but they favor her because...idk they haven't shown her being violently raped or repeatedly physically abused? Because you believe they actually think that making her seem like an idiot who never knows or thinks about what she's doing is somehow favorable?? Because it seems like ANY of these changes have actually endeared her to the fandom much less the show's general audience??? I literally cannot explain it most of the time, it baffles me.
I know I shouldn't be because why should any of us ever be shocked by misogyny in media anymore? By the portrayal of a woman for a mass-media (and heavily desired male) audience that's reductive and hollow?? But it's simply unreal to see how so many people somehow believe that this was done out of some sort of benevolence or favoritism. That so many people believe any of the changes made in the opposite direction of, and often active opposition to Rhaenyra's portrayal in Fire and Blood, were made out of some sort of desire to make her a tangibly more sympathetic or broadly understandable character, is something I'm not sure I'll ever be able to fully understand.
Except, of course, in the view that I really hope not everyone who says this sort of thing actually believes; that a self-confident woman who exercises her own agency is such an affront that even an unsympathetic, inconsistent, reductive, and idiotic cardboard cutout of a character is still a more respectable alternative.

Fucked-up thing about the Elden Ring cast
The known demigods are just the ones that Marika decided not to kill. She implicitly fed at least one of her kids to her dog... but she kept Morgott, Mohg, the one made out of diseases, and the one made out of snakes. She kept Rykard. So who did she even kill? How was she making these decisions?

get ready for another unpopular 911 post from me but someone please tell me why there are so many queer women in this fandom that care more about making a canonically straight guy queer than the Actually Canonically Queer Women this show offers. why are there so many queer women in this space talking over queer men about their own representation while actively ignoring the wlw rep we as queer women have. some of you need to go rewatch 6x06 Tomorrow and grapple with why it's so hard for you to care about it.

I don't wanna make any long-winded posts arguing with people but I figured it would be worth saying something to the people who feel insecure about posting certain characters now
No, you're not in the wrong for talking about certain characters/ships. You're not secretly misogynistic or internalizing anything based on your favorites. Don't let people psychoanalyze you over fiction and don't take unjustified criticism to heart. You know yourself better than strangers on the internet
And oh my god, you are not annoying for making posts about popular characters. Any fan content in small fandoms is good content so keep it up! Talk about whatever you want and go ham babes

i’m making a list of women in fictional media that are hated by a significant portion of their fan bases because they’re complicated, or deeply flawed, or morally grey, or angry when that is inherently connected to the thematic integrity of the story
so far i have:
Diane from Bojack Horseman
Princess Carolyn from Bojack Horseman
JJ from Criminal Minds
Elle from Criminal Minds
Jordan from Criminal Minds
Ashley from Criminal Minds
Haley from Criminal Minds*
Martha from Dr. Who*
Gwen from Torchwood*
Princess Bubblegum from Adventure Time
Lapis from Steven Universe
Jessica from Jessica Jones
Mary from Sherlock*
Katara from Avatar: The Last Airbender
Allison (Cameron) from House*
*shout out if they're also hated because they "got in the way" of a fan-favorite (usually mlm) ship and/or had feelings for the leading man that were not reciprocated
anyways lmk if you have others. idk i wanna collect them all and take care of them or something

It's hard to deny that most women don't seem to care about protecting their own rights. Far right parties might be gaining popularity worldwide, but feminist gains are a given, right? It's better to be liked for speaking out against your own civil rights movement than to identify yourself as a feminist and possibly receive vitriol for it, right? A man might say something mean online, right? It's safer to fuse with the wallpaper than to stick your neck out by calling out the misogyny you see, right? Maybe it's a task for someone else - some woman other than you. And life gets in the way of such trivial things as the preservation of your own rights.
You have no love for other women because you've failed to properly love yourself as a woman. It's the self hatred that turns you away from the sisterhood and towards seeking allegiance with women's oppressors. Conform and obey and you might get some of your basic needs met. After all, scraps are better than nothing and you're just trying to survive. You might even receive love from a man if you perform femininity in just the right way for him. Then you'll finally be worthy once he bestows worthiness onto you, right?
But that's all right. I'll love and adore women on your behalf. I'll praise women on your behalf. I'll love both of us on your behalf. I'll fight for both of us, so that one day you might discover that you're worth fighting for.

i always feel on edge these days when people talk about the not like other girls phenomenon cuz its like ok well it 100 percent could be that this girl thinks she is better than you for not wearing makeup and not doing 'girly' things bc that does happen...and i dont wanna discount that cause its very annoying and u shouldnt feel bad, for being 'like other girls'... but it could also just as easily be that youre judging someone for being gnc and labeling them as trying too hard to be different...and reinforcing in their head that they need to be feminine or else theyre misogynist...which is misogynist 😭

SHADAHKNKAS saw u in the notes of some kuina posts and that made me realize that there is simply a bond with kuina and tashigi fans, who may even often be the same fan, because AOUGHHH KUINA I CARE HIM SO MUCH episode 19 literally changed me forever. swords + gender struggles are all you need to hook me on a character sometimes Maybe. the whole greatest swordsman promise... sob. also. something about zoro promising his name will reach the heavens and trans kuina. which made me think.. what if kuina and The trans fear of dying then having your deadname on your tombstone that you can't do anything about because you're dead. kuina dying before they even get to figure everything out and all of a sudden he's just known as kuina forever, and then zoro making a name for himself in kuina's honor or something idk (i like zoro's backstory) (KUINA )
THERE ISS. people who theorise that they are secretly related or the same person or direct parallels are so close to getting it but don't imo (no shade to those theories tho, I just personally find them narratively unsatisfying).
like they are parallels in that kuina is symbolic of the sexism people suffer and tashigi is an adult woman who has come out the other end sword swinging but ultimately so unsure of herself as a result. also the (trans)genderisms, we are all hand in hand 🤝.
MAN KUINAS STORY BROKE ME DOWN ON A BASE LEVEL AND REWIRED NY BRAIN. I had to take a break from reading just to let it soak in it's so good, a swordsmans promise indeed, that scene was beautiful, I love zoro the world's first a accidental feminist <3. zoro carrying on her dream with his will never not have me in hysterics.
FUCK YEA THATS SUCH A GOOD IDEA. I have soo many thoughts about baby!zoro and kuina and trangenderism. egg kuina cis zoro, egg kuina STEALTH TRANS ZORO ABSVDJFBKSHDKDN <333.
little baby zoro looking at his grave with the uncontrollable urge to carve out those letters. to carry and rearrange them and make sure they get back to him in the afterlife spelling 'worlds greatest swordsman'.
trans kuina makes me so emotional because ultimately I don't know if they were canonically trans but it's my FAVOURITE 'what if' for them. they never really got to be anyone outside the dojo masters daughter. the failure of a heir and the girl who beat zoro 2001 times. who would they have been if they got to grow up? come to terms with themselves and unlearned all that heavy, painful biases pushed onto them? as a transmasc who's studying into a (cis)male dominated field myself ik, the feelings of 'betrayal' and 'proving misogynists right' and imposter syndrome and inadequacy issues and perfectionism they might've gone through,,, sobbing my eyes out HE MEANS EVERYTHING TO MEE.
zoros backstory is genuinely one of my favourite parts of the manga idc how 'simple' it was it's still beautiful.

if you're 1 noisy follower who's too cowardly to come off anon, block me. if you're multiple terfs who spend their evenings surfing the notes on posts about trans women, and sending monologues to random ppl who reblogged them, consider getting a job. it's really that simple 🥱

y'know, it's absolutely valid for people to not want engaging in One Piece because of its misogynistic parts, but I just can't help wondering what kind manga/anime do they enjoy then 'cause, with all acknowledgment of its problematic and/or badly written parts, One Piece is still one of the least misogynistic mainstream series.
and I am painfully reminded of this every time I pick a new series up. seriously. it's like a reality bitch slap after which I immediately stop complaining about Nami, Robin, Hiyori and the others (sorry, Tashigi, you still don't get the pass, you're so badly written you're beyond saving, and in addition I don't like you).
so far, only Fullmetal Alchemist and Jujutsu Kaisen passed the check. I have a vague memory of Bleach being okay? but I need a solid refreshment cause it's been years
ah, and Golden Kamuy, of course, but it's not a manga, it's an experience.
stuff like Demon Slayer or Haikyuu might not have the boomer jokes and fanservice, but honestly, I'll take Oda's hehe booba over whatever sad joke of a shadow fem characters are in series like this. and I'm saying this from a level of huge enjoyment those brought me.

the Gansey family + sarchengsey lunch scene is interesting from a Gansey’s-relationship-with-his-family-sucks-so-much-on-god perspective but like. It could be a much better chapter than it is I wish there was jumping around in povs because there are these moments of Gansey noticing in periphery that Blue is Not having a good time there or at least is having some uncomfortable interactions with his parents (including them being like oh what a lovely exotic cadence about her accent which :/. if your reading Blue as a WoC that’s deeply uncomfortable if your just reading her as white it’s still annoying and condescending and classist and you know she hated it) but the focus isn’t really on her it’s on the Gansey-Helen convo which yk I enjoy for some of my last AG crumbs but I don’t like that there’s more emphasis placed on how the family’s responses to Blue effect Gansey rather than how she feels about them. I would have liked the scene in split pov or just a follow up about it in the next Blue pov.
