Jaime was always self conscious about his facial hair because he was stuck with a permanent puberty mustache and that can be kind of awkward if you still have that kid face. Vishkar didn't allow him any sharp objects (for obvious reasons) but there actually was talk among the orphanage authorities to laser the hair off of his face to make him more 'presentable' (obviously Jaime's consent in this wasn't a factor at all). He ran away before they could really do anything. It was Cass and Hanzo who ultimately taught him how to shave and it actually was this weird bonding moment because "Wow you're trusting me with sharp objects and also this is maybe a coming of age thing or something? This is a thing dads do???" And even if he was still kind of stuck with the perma-stache he honestly did like shaving because honestly you don't have a lot of control over your own hygiene when you're homeless and he liked the ritual of it. It felt like a signifier of being home.
Later on he did end up finding his own file from Vishkar and the mutterings about his facial hair and he was like "Fuck those guys, I'm growing a beard."

Fic catalogue: ❤
Don't know quite where to start? Here is a short list hopefully helpful in picking what you'd like.
Couple things: ♥ All Explicit, unless otherwise stated (rest are Mature) ♥ All have old name for cowboy ♥ All yeehan (mchanzo), minus the separate list ♥ Mind the tags / warnings!
List mentions whether it's versatile, top or bottom, or just other. Tags mentioned are only a few key tags.
♥ All my works ♥ Series (most are loosely) ♥ Collections Listed: Longer fics, One shots, Not just yeehan, Other (not a fic per se)
This got long, so the 20 fics are below cut. ^^;
~~~ notes: btm Han = bottom Hanzo top Han = top Hanzo versatile = both (or neither?) other = no penetration (may have fingering)
(I debated whether to include this, but since it matters to many and not all my fics have it tagged, I thought this was a good way for those who give a damn about top/bottom to find something. Many also have lot of other forms including mouth, thighs, fingers etc. So this is very barebones.) Canon is more like based on canon. I have so many AUs so... Noodles = noodle dragons ~~~
Longer fics:
- Twisted Roads (73k/80+k fin.) ch: 25/28, first, canon, one night stand gone wrong, after recall, versatile - Secret of the Forest ch: 4/20+, Fantasy AU, Elfzo, Orcass, slow burn, size difference, btm Han - Frozen Doll (14k) [finished! (6-8), denial Hanzo, drunk sex, somno, noodles It's not gay if the balls don't touch - Take me back (5,7k) [finished! Hi! I really love your work— do you have any advice for someone who doesn’t have a lot of experience drawing human forms/anatomy? I dont really know where to start 😅
Thank you!!!! ^_^
So first off, bear with me, I'm going to point you to some of my old old art. In general, any 'progress'/tutorial type stuff i post goes into the "wip" tag: freebooter4ever.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/wip
The rest of this discussion is going under a cut lol
I've been drawing since i was a kid - as my grandma likes to tell it i would sit quietly at the card table next to her and make her draw with me because "everyone can draw, grandma". Sometime around high school i got it into my head that i needed a 'class' to understand anatomy, as if it was just this magical thing i would suddenly understand. (college was useless) The truth is i didnt start getting better until recently, when i gave up trying to 'learn' anatomy and just started studying bodies. That sounds weird, but i don't know how else to describe it? If someone told me ages ago that i could learn anatomy the same way i self-disciplined myself into being able to pull out computer science concepts at the drop of the hat, i feel like i wouldn't have wasted so much time but anyway...
Check out any doodles before my mchanzo era for drawings that i did prior to getting serious about practice studies: freebooter4ever.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/mchanzo. Terrible anatomy. Atrocious. (with one exception that i still like which is a poster on sasha bees' wall hey bees if you're reading this) 2016 ish.
THEN 2017 i lost my job, moved away from pittsburgh, missed my DJ friends, watched a documentary on netflix about st*ve aoki (after watching everything vaguely DJ related on the streaming service lol), and the aoki drawing era begins: freebooter4ever.tumblr.com/archive/tagged/steve%20aoki. I joke that the way I learned anatomy was by becoming obsessed with a DJ who contorts himself into very strange positions and has photographers that take photos of him from LITERALLY every angle and who tends to walk around half naked an unusually large amount of time but like...that's literally what happened. Not that im saying you have to start drawing half naked DJ's...just find a subject you dont mind drawing hours of studies from and it makes it a lot easier.
When I'm doing 'studies' I tend to do two separate drawings. Initially I literally just 'study' what I'm looking at - I put it in photoshop and trace the lines that I see. I don't OUTLINE it, there is a huge difference. A lot of times the lines that stand out are not the outlines but rather a dominant shadow or sharp edge. After I feel like I've got a good handle on it, I do another drawing of the pose freehand. Then I take the original photo and put it underneath that drawing and check where I've messed up. If I'm completely off I throw it away and start again, lol. If there's a few errors I fix them. More and more lately I find that the freehand drawing is fairly accurate with anatomy unless it's an unusual or challenging perspective. I break this down more in this post using joe as an example: https://freebooter4ever.tumblr.com/post/633653906052923392/its-been-a-while-since-ive-posted-one-of-these
Those study drawings rarely see the light of day. I just delete them when I'm done because i didn't have an...aim...? For the drawing. They just were to learn.
The doodles that I post on here? Some of the simpler ones are practice sketches from gifs - i will have a gif running next to my drawing and will try to draw what i see, freehand. Some of the more complicated drawings/portraits are from photos - but there's usually something i see in the photo that i want to convey? Like light? or a specific part of anatomy? I dunno, i make shit up as i go.
AND THEN there's my favorite, when i have done all this practice and i can do shit like drawing characters from my imagination. Like kenny hugging his cat. These don't have any reference - im just relying on my memory of anatomy i've drawn in the past.
I dunno. Dont let bad anatomy get you down, just keep trying. My anatomy hero - a sculptor ethan idolized and i idolize by default - even said himself that he doesn't feel like an 'expert', and he's in his 40's and has been doing this shit for decades. Just draw!!! The more you do it, the more you'll start to see what you like, and how you can make it how you like even more. I still think my anatomy is bad, im still embarrassed by it. But i also know i've gotten better because i can see it now.
ANYWAY this is long, im exhausted, i have to go to bed now :) and i was serious about scheduling an abs livestream. Maybe this weekend if im ambitious.
Q&A [Kid Style]
Q: Gabriel, what do you like the most about your parents?
Gabriel: “That’s super hard. I like a lot about dad and pa. But I really like when they argue.”
Why?
Gabriel: “When a lot of adults argue, they look kinda mean. Their eyes aren’t happy and they say really mean things and try to hurt each other’s feelings. But my dad’s aren’t like that. Pa smiles when he argues and says a lot of weird stuff like..” [looks around, whispers] “Christ on a cracker, that’s colder than a witch in a brass tit.” [shrugs] “Or something like that..” [nodnod] “And then dad will say..” [gathers his hair back in a small ponytail, puts on his most serious expression] “So unpho-.. uh.. unso.. Uhm..”
Hanzo: “Unsophisticated?”
Gabriel: [jumps, whirls around to look at him] “Eheh, hey dad..”
Hanzo: “Hello son.” [smirks, folds his arms] “Please continue.”
Gabriel: “Well..” [pokes his fingers together] “When you and Papa argue, you’re not mad. You’re having fun and I think you love it just as much as you love each other because you can share how you’re feeling and not just run away..” [winces] “Is that okay?”
Hanzo: “....” [nods] “Yes. Yes it is. I didn’t realize you were paying so much attention to us.”
Gabriel: “Of course I am. I love you.” [shrugs]
Hanzo: [stares, blinking a few times then a smile slowly forms] “Do you know what I like the most about you?” [kneels down in front of him]
Gabriel: “No?” [squints] “What?”
Hanzo: “Come closer. It’s a secret.”
Gabriel: [steps closer] “What is it dad?”
Hanzo: [sweeps him up in a hug] “You!”
Gabriel: [laughs, hugging close to him]
A sorta half-assed drawing of Mariana. She is my McHanzo ship kid. I mostly wanted to express her tattoo and her teen attitude. She wouldn't admit it at the time but she does love her nerd fathers. c: I might submit some actual story for her because I've been thinking of it lately. Enjoy
I'd imagine Symmetra of all people would've wanted to have spoken with Jaime when he was first brought to the watch point. May I ask how the conversation went??
God, I haven't updated my kid continuity work on AO3 in like 6 months. Plus I can always use more Jaime fics!
------
He could feel her eyes on him in the mess hall, and it made him wonder how good he was at pretending he couldn't tell when someone was watching him. He had gotten very good at it in his time being homeless, in the same way he had gotten good at making himself virtually invisible to waitresses and store clerks and grocery store workers and librarians. It never had to be about hiding, per se, just, being part of the landscape. But he knew he didn't have that luxury here. There came a point where he finally couldn't resist swinging a look over his shoulder at her, and she seemed to take this as some kind of prompt. She really wasn't subtle at all, the way she moved--graceful, but not subtle--she still kept that gaze fixed on him even though she went over to get a refill of water rather than approaching him directly. He shifted his focus back on loading his plate. Some kind of skillet pasta today, the tomato sauce more North African than Italian.
"Hello," a clipped Indian accent spoke up and Jaime's shoulders bunched up.
He glanced over to see the woman holding a cup of water next to him. Her long dark hair was tied back in a low bun, and there were a few marks of age about her face that put her at maybe her early forties. She seemed to be wearing a specialized headset that hugged around the back of her head and had some kind of visor--not glass.
Hard-light. Jaime's stomach tensed.
"You are the new ward, correct?" she tilted her head.
Ward? Jaime thought, Yikes.
"It's--" he stammered a little, "A temporary situation."
"Ah," there was a slight, thoughtful raise of her eyebrows at this. She caught herself, "Where are my manners-- You may call me Satya. I was on a mission when you arrived here, but when I returned I was very interested in meeting you."
"Listen--" Jaime started, not exactly sure how to continue that sentence, only that the continuation of the sentence had to somehow get him out of this conversation.
"Would you like to join us?" Her voice overlapped with his and he clammed up. His brain scrambled for a moment, already uneasy enough with the way so much of this watchpoint was in-tune with other parts--it was definitely more eclectic than Vishkar had been, but he wasn't in a hurry to throw his lot in with a bunch of gun-toting strangers. But then he saw she was moving her arm and realized she meant 'join us' in a more singular, momentary context. She was gesturing with her arm towards a table where a familiar figure was sitting. The boy from the garden. The boy who picked oranges. The boy who walked through a teleporter--what was his name again? He was now looking considerably more intimidating in a crisp pale turquoise shirt and reading a book. Glancing between her visor and the hard-light projector visible on the wrist of his book-holding hand, he remembered what Rei had said:
"Samir's mom--well, one of Samir's moms--well, long story short you're not the first person to leave Vishkar."
"Sure..." the word came out of him slow and hesitant, but the brightening of her face seemed to respond as if he had been far more enthusiastic.
As they approached the table, the way Samir looked up from his book indicated that his mother clearly had not run this by him before bringing Jaime over.
"Samir, I found the new boy," she said, as if that was not already obvious.
"That's... great," he said, materializing a hard-light bookmark with a finger flick and setting the book aside. Satya took her seat next to her son as Jaime pulled out a chair cringingly loudly and sat down.
"So you're... still here," said Samir, glancing at Jaime up and down. Jaime had cleaned up noticeably himself, but he was stuck in ill-fitting borrowed clothes--a pair of weather-resistant joggers from Hanzo and a frankly awful souvenir shirt that read 'I Survived the Stampede!--Calgary 2082' from Cassidy.
"Yeah, you know, it's just a temporary situation. I've got a lot of other stuff going on. They want me around because I might have important intel on the inner workings of Vishkar," Jaime threw the phrase out carelessly.
"Really!" Satya perked up, "Precisely what I wished to speak with you about."
Horror washed over Jaime. "Oh-- g-great." His mind flubbed for a second and he just ended up forking up several penne and shoving them in his mouth to buy himself some time. It was then that he remembered that he really had come here to eat.
"It... has been some time, but I've come to understand that in my time at Vishkar, I had a very unique situation," Satya was talking now, "You must understand, I grew up internalizing all of their doctrines. It's been very difficult to un-learn their most harmful philosophies, but I feel I've found a wonderful support group here."
"Mom--" Samir started warily., "He seemed pretty spooked by the Vishkar stuff when I first saw him--"
Jaime would have interjected with an 'I wasn't spooked' here but he was too busy eating and Samir went on.
"--I don't know if we really should jump into this right away."
"Well he said he would only be here temporarily," said Satya, "And if he was raised by Vishkar as well--"
Jaime knew he was eating far faster than either of them. He couldn't really help it. It had turned into force of habit from the weeks of convincing that one grocery store girl to sneak him day-old bread and pre-made sandwiches that otherwise would have been thrown out. Walk off, eat fast where they can't see you. It reminded him of how Javi's dog would immediately go under a table to eat any treats you gave it, and he hated it. Here he was sitting, and both Samir and his mom were watching him as he shoveled down three huge bites in quick succession as they were speaking.
"We can drop the subject, if you'd prefer," Satya said, glancing back at Jaime.
Jaime ruminated on this for two chews. "...so you were an orphan, too?" he said after a hard swallow, washed down with a gulp of water.
"N-no," said Satya, "Goodness--You're an orphan?"
"Pff--I can take care of myself," Jaime said on reflex, before shoving down another forkful of pasta.
"I knew Vishkar took in many of the orphans following the Crisis but..." Satya had only just started to trail off.
"Oh yeah they still do it," Jaime waved his fork around, "Talon, Null Sector, natural disasters, sicknesses blazing through refugee camps... still plenty of orphans popping up every day. Vishkar says they're 'taking the weight off of foster systems' and stuff like that but what they really want is bodies."
"...bodies," Satya repeated.
At the end of the day you’re just a body in a world that has no problem adding you to a growing pile of bodies, Sanjay's voice sounded at the back of Jaime's head and he shoveled down another bite to hide his shudder. Satya was still staring at him as he chewed so he swallowed and tried to elaborate.
"Workers. Architechs. People who can brainwash more people for them. I think it's because trying to use locals for labor like they did in Rio just caused the whole Lúcio revolution, so they figured they should just bulk up their internal numbers so they can overwhelm wherever they put their developments. I didn't have hard-light aptitude so they probably had me lined up for ditch digger or something," Jaime took another bite of pasta. He was honestly a bit too focused on the food to notice the intensity of both Satya and Samir's eyes fixed on him. He glanced up at Satya. "So wait, if you're not an orphan--how did that work?"
Satya seemed to snap out of a trance. "My parents believed I would have more of my needs met with Vishkar, and besides, it was a much better quality of life than what we had in Hyderabad." She said this with some embarrassment. "I suppose, in many ways, given that Vishkar supported me so thoroughly, I couldn't have known that they were shaping me into a tool to meet their ends."
"I guess your parents really believed in that 'Better World' stuff, huh?"
"I like to think they did. I believed in it for a long time, after all... but there are some days I'm not sure. Some days I question whether they did it because it was... easier," Satya said a bit distantly.
This managed to get Jaime's chewing to slow. Satya gauged his reaction, then gave a glance to Samir, and caught herself. "Apologies," she stammered, "That was... not appropriate for a first conversation."
"Yeah, we can change the subject if--" Samir started.
"No, it's... I always wondered what Vishkar was like if you had... hard-light aptitude," his fork was scraping up sauce at this point, trying to get enough for a bite, and his mouth seemed to be moving faster than his thoughts, "I had a friend, but Vishkar separated us because he was good at hard-light. The last time I talked to him... we fought. He said Vishkar was better than our old school, and I said he was a traitor and he was turning into one of them... but things were harder for him...before Vishkar took us in. He was smart, but things were harder for him. That's why he stuck with me... and then I was a jerk to him, and I still blame Vishkar for it, but... I shouldn't have said what I said to him. Sometimes I wonder if I said it because it would be easier than saying goodbye."
Jaime couldn't remember the last time he had mentioned Javi to anyone. He hadn't said the name, at least, but that was a hell of a lot more than he had spilled with Sanjay. He could feel a heat at the back of his eyes, but he just grabbed his water cup and gulped it down along with the memories. None of this seemed like anything that would mean anything to people who fight Vishkar, anyway.
Samir seemed to note the mutual holes both Jaime and his mother had dug themselves into and lightly cleared his throat. "So... speaking of parents... what's life like with Cole and Hanzo?"
Jaime inhaled the last gulp of water on reflex at the juxtaposition of the word 'parents' and the names 'Cole and Hanzo' and coughed for a solid minute.
"Do you need--?" Satya started but Jaime kept coughing for another 30 seconds.
"They're," Jaime wiped a tear away and had one final cough-and-a-half, "They're all right."
"I imagine it has all been very jarring, coming here," said Satya.
"I mean I get around, it doesn't take a lot to shock me," Jaime said, leaning back in his chair.
Samir was giving him that same skeptical look from earlier. He was lying, of course, but he had already said too much about Javi and wasn't about to dig himself deeper. Being here honestly was a bit of a reversal from his time in the orphanage. Back there, the other kids hung on his every word while the adults did everything in their power to stomp him back down. Here, he could feel everyone even close to his age group side-eying him, while the adults would give him these deep, searching looks like he had washed ashore from a shipwreck, even if he was sure they knew what he was saying was bullshit. Maybe that was just the thing with adults, looking at you like you were always a problem to be solved.
"Hanzo did say you must have remarkable resilience," Satya mused.
"Hanzo said that?" Jaime blurted out.
"Did he not tell you so?" Satya blinked.
"...Usually he just stands weirdly far away and asks if I'm hungry every 15 minutes. Or he's just... messing around with those arrows."
Satya scoffed and smiled slightly. "Yes, that sounds like him."
"What about Cassidy?" asked Samir.
"I don't know what his deal is. It's like he'll start to talk to me, but then he'll just... back off right when we're actually getting into it. Like he'll 'remember' that there's something he suddenly has to do and he'll be like, 'How's about we put a pin in this?' And then whoosh. Gone."
Samir snorted a bit at Jaime's Cassidy impression but Satya muttered something to herself under her breath in Hindi.
"And he never gives me stuff in person. He just leaves things with a stupid little note like 'Don't feel like you have to use this, but it's there for you just in case.' Like why don't you just ask if I need it, then? Like, in person?"
"They might not want to overwhelm you," Satya offered, "On a certain level, they know what it means to be alone for a very long time. Cole can be a bit oafish, but he means well."
"Mom," Samir said in a slight 'come on,' tone of voice.
"I said he means well," said Satya with a shrug and a smile.
Jaime wasn't sure he liked how easily she assessed the whole 'Alone for a long time' thing. Was it obvious? God, of course it was obvious. He just spilled all that weepy shit about Javi. "I mean it's not like I care, I'm going to be out of here in a few days, anyway," he said with a dismissive wave of his hand.
"Of course," said Satya. For a second Jaime felt a familiar anxiety flare at the top of his stomach. There it was. There was that Vishkar--that I'm agreeing with you because you're clearly dumb enough to think you have any control over this when you clearly don't 'Of course.' But it wasn't, not quite. It didn't have the same contempt. It was... warm. It was the same warmth a parent said 'of course' when their kid was telling them about the rocket ship they had made with cardboard boxes. "If there's any way our family can help you before then--" she put a hand on Samir's shoulder at this, "Do not hesitate to ask." Samir grimaced at the implication of being pulled into the 'maximum family hospitality' schema before Satya said, "Samir?"
"Right--" Samir glanced back at Jaime, "My brother and I are around the watchpoint if you need us." He said this with steady eye contact that said, 'you have a better bet of coming to us before the adults.' Jaime had to admit, he kind of liked the weird organization-within-an-organization thing the kids here had going here. They still definitely had that loyalty to the whole of the Watchpoint that freaked him out, but they also had their own way of going about it--likely because the adults around here were always rushing off on missions. Marti was Samir's captain before Jack was--he could tell that right away.
"I'll keep that in mind," Jaime said, before quickly adding, "For the next few days, obviously."
"Obviously," said Samir and Satya at the same time.
That made Jaime's ears burn.
Cupid’s Message
This is the sixteenth chapter of Everyday Heroes.
If you like what I do and want to support me, why not buy me a coffee?
When Hanzo woke up that morning, he expected to see his husband sleeping peacefully next to him. Though an arrow with a suction cup attached to his forehead wasn’t exactly part of that scenario. A note was tied around the shaft and Hanzo carefully undid it, trying not to disturb Jesse’s slumber. The raucous snoring coming from the cowboy was enough to deafen an entire theatre but it did little to disrupt Hanzo’s reading.
The note had childish handwriting on it and he knew that sort of script anywhere. Gabriel’s handwriting with it’s quick loops and close letters filled line after line, stopping at the bottom with a drawing.
Hanzo’s eyes widened and he reached over to shake Jesse’s shoulders “Anata,” he called. “Jesse, wake up.”
His husband burst into action, arm flinging out to grab Peacekeeper from underneath his pillow and point it at an invisible enemy. Jesse’s body was silhouetted in a golden aura, his eyes glinting red until it registered that there was no threat. Just his husband staring at him patiently with a hint of amusement and an empty room.
“Surely if there was someone within our quarters, I would have dealt with them,” Hanzo patiently explained, failing to hide his smirk.
Jesse rolled his eyes and slowly sat up, pausing when he registered the arrow stuck to his forehead.
“What in tarnation,” he muttered, pulling it free with a loud smack, rubbing the reddened skin. “Who the hell did this?”
Hanzo waved the note. “The same person who wrote this,” he replied, looking curiously at their room door. “But how did they manage to get in without us noticing?”
Jesse took the note and glanced it over. “You think this was a two man job?”
“Was there ever any doubt?” Hanzo shook his head, taking the arrow and twirling it around in his hand. “Shingen wouldn’t allow Gabriel to attempt a stealth mission on his own.”
In fact, he wouldn’t allow his little brother to dive into danger alone at all. His protectiveness as a big brother helped to keep Gabriel out of a multitude of situations. However, Hanzo was more worried about his skills being rusty if their children could sneak up on them.
“Might’ve been a four man job,” Jesse interjected, knocking him from his thoughts. “There’s only three people I know who can sneak without leaving a trace, and only two of them live here.”
The dragons writhed underneath Hanzo’s skin as if proud that they were acknowledged for their mischief. He rolled his eyes in response. Of course they would help the boys, those two were the dragons’ absolute favorite people in the world even potentially outranking Hanzo himself.
“Well, we should read it and see what the damage is.”
Jesse flicked on the bedside lamp and grabbed his reading glasses, slipping them on in one fluid motion. Or at least it would have been if he hadn’t poked himself in the eye before putting them on. Hanzo chuckled, kissing his husband’s cheek and extending his arm so Jesse could press himself close to his side.
Wrapping his arm around Jesse’s shoulders, Hanzo shifted so the gunslinger could rest his head against his chest.
“Comfy?” Hanzo asked.
Jesse shifted his legs a bit then tucked an arm around Hanzo’s waist.
“Yep.”
Hanzo looked the note over, slightly impressed with how much Gabriel had written.
In a few days it’ll be Valentines and I wanted to tell you that I love you. It’s kind of hard for me to show how much I love you everyday because there’s not a lot of time. And Athena says Time is important and it shouldn’t be wasted. She also said something about time management. She helped me spell that word. Said it has something to do with keeping track of time. But I thought that’s what clocks are for.
“Athena,” Hanzo called out, shooting Jesse a half-hearted glare at his wheezing laughter.
“Yes, Agent Hanzo?”
“Thank you for telling Gabriel what time management is.”
“It is my pleasure, Agent Hanzo. Though he did have a sound argument.”
Hanzo shook his head, smiling exasperatedly in Jesse’s direction as he wiped away fake tears.
“I am sure he did,” Hanzo replied, looking down and continuing to read.
Anyway, I wasn’t sure how to tell you. I still don’t know and I’m probably going on and on in loops and circles. But I do love you. Even when you scold me if I do something wrong or when you’re sad or when you’re gone. I love you even though I have to share you with everyone else in the world. I don’t feel lonely then either. I have Shingen and Kai and Mariam and Theo and Olivia to keep me company. And when you come back, or even when you’re far away, I’ll still love you.
Because I have the best dads ever. And you’re the coolest and bestest heroes ever. I know you are. Dad is the strongest archer ever and he never loses his cool. He’s always 100% honest even if it hurts your feelings, And Papa is the best sharpshooter in the West (or at least that’s what he told me), nobody could ever beat him. He’s always smiling and he makes time for us even when Tito keeps him busy.
You don’t argue like most parents. Well, you argue a little but it’s not like mad arguing. When you argue, you’re smiling and look happy. Not angry and mean. Uncle Genji said you guys arguing is a typical thing. Like you do it for fun. And sometimes I argue with Shingen for fun.
He’s hard to win against but I’ll get it someday.
You guys are the best together, saving the world and everything.
Pa, do you remember when you told me the world was changing?
So when you come back, nothing will change. I’ll still mess up sometimes and you can scold me. And Papa will sing his songs and tell funny jokes or stories. Dad will play video games with us and help us dress up for pretend. And give us kisses goodnight or when we get hurt or when we’re sad.
We’ll go on trips with Tito and Grampa. Granny will bake cookies and Opa will be loud as ever. Aunt Zarya and Mei will take us to see snow. Aunt Hana will demolish us at Starcraft. Uncle Lúcio will make awesome songs and Uncle Genji will show us how to climb stuff. Uncle Zenyatta and Kai will meditate like always and the Junkers might take us to blow stuff up.
Uncle Winston will show us his inventions. Athena will tell us facts about them. Aunt Moira will show us her experiments and Aunt Angela will keep an eye on her. Tía Sombra will show us how to hack into stuff. Orisa And Efi will come around and we’ll have horseback rides (Shingen said she’s a centaur but that’s a horse, right?)
We’ll make portals with Aunt Satya, practice dancing with Aunt Amelie, and race Theo and Aunt Lena. But we might lose sometimes so Aunt Emily will be there to pick us up.
Most of all, Shingen and I will get older and we’ll still love you.
No matter how big I am, how old I am, I’ll always love you.
So I’ll write you a letter every Valentines day from now until forever to tell you how much I love you.
There were smudges and erases on the paper. Small splotches where water had dried and Hanzo ran his thumb over them.
“Gabe was crying,” Jesse said. “That kid of ours…”
His words trailed off but there was a waver in his voice and a break as he took in a shaky breath. Hanzo looked down at his husband and saw brown eyes glazed with tears. Jesse’s lips twitching, downturned, eyebrows knitted together and eyes shutting tight. A tear rolled down his cheek and before Hanzo could hug him tighter, Jesse slipped out of his grip and climbed out of bed.
“Where are you going?”
Jesse smiled broadly over his shoulder. “To hug our kids, what else?” He replied.
No more words were needed as both men got out of bed and went about their tasks; attaching their prosthetics and heading out to peer into their children’s room. Their beds were made and everything was in order but neither boy was in sight. Jesse and Hanzo shared a look of confusion before the tell-tale sound of a door swooping open turned their attention to their quarter’s entrance.
Staying in the shadows, they peered around to see who was coming in.
Gabriel was the first to run in. His hair pulled back in a ponytail, cheeks dusted with red from the cold, and a silly grin plastered on his face. He was dressed in a red, gold and white sweater that resembled Jesse’s serape. His brown pants and boots wet from the rain puddles. Slung across his back was an empty quiver, a crossbow in his right hand, the other holding Shingen’s.
Hanzo almost laughed as Shingen appeared around the corner, the picture of not wanting to be awake. His hair was down, falling in his face and didn’t look as if it had been brushed at all. Black pea coat buttoned up, blue pants and boots a darker shade. Gabriel was talking his ear off about something or another as he trudged inside, taking off his shoes and reminding his brother with a pointed look to do the same.
And as Gabriel sat down to take off his own shoes, Shingen’s head lifted and he looked around, spotting Jesse and Hanzo in the hall. Just like his fathers’ he had a way of knowing when someone was looking at him. But unlike Hanzo, he hadn’t completely mastered a poker face and his eyes widened by a fraction.
“Gabe,” he said. “We have company.”
Gabriel lifted his head then looked over his shoulder, staring for awhile.
“So, where did you two get off to?” Jesse asked.
Gabriel and Shingen looked at one another then back to their parents.
“We… were playing Cupid.”
Hanzo chuckled. That explained the arrows and the message then. Shaking his head, he shouldered past Jesse and went to draw both of them in a hug. Shingen stiffened up but soon melted into the embrace, patting Hanzo’s back. Gabriel wrapping his arms around his neck and hugging close. Their clothes were bitterly cold from the outside temperature but he wouldn’t let go of them for the world. Eventually, Jesse joined the embrace and they sat there in the walkway hugging one another.
“We love you too,” Jesse muttered.
Overwatch Kids AU
Hi! This was provoked by an Overwatch second generation kids post I saw on Tumblr and ideas just started flowing. I’m not really a writer so go easy on me!
Here's a post similar that I got inspiration from 1  (btw i love this post with all my heart)
All kids are in the seventh grade expect for the following:
Echo ~ Third grade
Sombra, D.va, Brigitte, Tracer ~ Sixth grade
Pharah, Symmetra, Hazno ~ Eight grade
Mercy ~ Ninth grade
- Ana runs a book club for the adults  that she makes Pharah attend but Mercy comes too because she loves books and keeps Pharah company. They eventually become very good friends and Mercy ends up cheering Pharah on at her football games even though she hates football.
- Doomfist was picking on Hanzo once, and Hanzo did what he does and just ignored it, but McCree wasn’t having it. McCree stood up and punched Doomfist in his jaw in front of most of the neighborhood kids and Genji was just thinking “this man just signed his death wish, how will I tell Mr. Reyes his son just died at the hands of an overgrown seventh grader”
- Whenever Junkrat starts one of his rants about something like worms D.va listens intently and asks questions.
- Sombra was dared to kiss Symmetra on the cheek and since Sombra never backs down from a dare, she did it. Symmetra was furious at first but got over it in a week or two.
-Genji has a massive crush on Mercy since she took care of his wounds he got from fighting with neighborhood kids while in sixth grade. Little does Genji know, Mercy sees him as just a friend and actually has her eyes on somebody else.
-Genji goes googly eyed whenever Mercy talks to him and Pharah and McCree teases him relentlessly about it
-When Tracer moved to the neighborhood Sombra and D.va introduced her to everybody but Widowmaker and when she finally met her they quickly developed a relationship like Sombra and Symmetra, where Tracer annoys the hell out of Widowmaker but she still allows her to stick around.
-Genji hated McCree when they first met but eventually became friends after McCree started talking about this old western movie that had cowboys and ninjas (something called Shanghai Noon)
-Reyes found out that McCree and Hanzo were dating when he saw McCree holding hands with Hanzo as he walked him home. Reyes asked him if he was dating Hanzo at dinner and McCree sat there for a minute while Genji looked at Mr.Reyes shocked and Sombra tried to hold back her laughter. McCree eventually said yes and Reyes told him to invite Hanzo home for dinner the next night.
-The next day at dinner Hanzo was very quiet, only speaking to introduce himself, use basic table manners, and answer Reyes’ questions about himself. Hanzo was almost quiet during the whole entire dinner, that was until McCree made a crappy joke and Hanzo almost spit out his food, Reyes’ raised an eyebrow to that, half shocked and the other half confused, but quickly wiped the look off his face before Hanzo could see it.
- Brigitte and D.va often raced their bikes around the neighborhood together and Brig fixes D.va’s bike whenever she breaks it, which is more often than you might realize.
-Echo tags along with McCree and Genji, whether or not they wanted her too, and often calls them Jesse and Goop, respectively.
-McCree and Ashe used to be best friends until they had this huge fight that McCree won't talk about, even to Genji. Reyes still asks about Ashe and McCree always angrily answers “I’m sure she’s fine”
-McCree, Genji, and Sombra notices Reyes has a “special friend” that he refers to as Morrison or Jackie and often tries to set them up together. Once at the dinner table when Morrison was over Sombra blurted out “Hey Mr. Morrison, you know that Papá like likes you right?”. Morrison chuckled it off as ‘stuff kids say’ but Reyes was furious at Sombra for a week
