In 2022: My Chemical Romance performed their 57th show of the 2022-2023 Swarm tour in Inglewood, California, USA. At this show, Gerard Way wore a custom designed Dracula outfit, and four tally marks were drawn on the drums. The majority of the songs performed at this show were from their fourth album, "Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys". (🖤)
mikey bringing his daughter on stage and picking her up and showing the crowd to her and her just gazing back at the crowd while ray plays the outro to kids from yesterday and frank and gerard and all of them share the biggest smiles.
they made it. the kids from yesterday have kids of their own and they are all there together showing their kids all they made out of the love they have for each other and for the world and, now, for them.
Hmmm having lots of thoughts about last night. The vampire mansion character universe, them finally BEING the vampire last night. Not playing a vampire double feature last night but playing Vampires Will Never Hurt You instead of Vampire Money-which is a Danger Days song and would fit with the night’s theme. Putting the focus on that song instead because you’d expect the double feature or at least the Danger Days one. What’s the message. The whole “When we come back-IF, if we come back” thing. They’re the vampire who will never hurt us. They’ll be back.
something about how the danger days era was so harmful and painful and destructive to the band, and especially gerard's sense of identity and priorities, is why the last few moments of last night's show hit especially hard for me. the entire show had a focus of love and family and affection, and mikey bringing his daughter on stage and holding her tight as they closed out kids from yesterday was the final act of love that set this era and this retelling of danger days apart.
instead of sticking it to "the man" (themselves) this was a night of embracing who they were and who they've become. instead of a focus on the intensity of the rebellious love that is central to danger days, it was a focus on the love itself above all else. not in a way where anything has to change, but in a way where the best parts of yourself and your life are elevated to sincerely and repeatedly embrace those around you.
