Back in 2021, when I first uploaded the demo for Citadel, I didn't really know what to expect. And, I have to say, this all still feels a little surreal.
But, what I know for sure is I'm so, so grateful for all of you. Thank you for playing my game, for sending in asks, for liking/reblogging my posts, and for cheering me on through medical school and now through residency. I can't emphasize enough that Citadel would not be possible without you.
As a 3,000 follower special, I’m putting 3 short snippets up for grabs.
If you like this post, you’ll be entered into the raffle once.
If you reblog this post, you’ll be entered into the raffle twice.
If you like and reblog, that's a total of 3 raffle entries!
Raffle will close Monday, October 23rd at 8:30 pm EST. Short snippets will be posted during the month of November.
And for those who might just be stumbling upon Citadel…

I love medical dramas because they give me such fun words/phrases to repeat over and over and over like "hemachromatosis" and "sarcoidosis" and "this person's pain is worth investigating and treating".

Someone should really look into the overlap between fans of medical dramas and chronically ill people. Because I'm in the middle of that vendiagram and it's crowded in here.

Hear me out on this TV Show idea:
A van Helsing medical drama
Van Helsing is a both a doctor who treats patients and a professor who teaches medicine in Amsterdam. He is often consulted in cases where other doctors can’t help, but many of his collegues have difficulty working with him because he is often uncommunicative. Most of the episodes are about illnesses of natural origin, only very sparsly does he have contact with the supernatural. (I guess  the first unabiguously supernatural case would be in the season 1 finale. Not his first supernatural case though, he references some he had before the series started.)
He has his struggles as a professor because many students don’t do well with his teaching style. He isn’t really good at explaining himself and only few students are willing to put in the effort to really understand what he is saying. And he struggles with his faith: he doesn’t doubt God’s existence and he can make convincing arguments for God’s benevolence, but emotionally he doesn’t feel like God is supporting him and that he has to deal with everything on his own.
There is a heartbreaking scene in which he visits his son’s grave. And an even more heartbreaking scene in which he visits his wife, who has brain-damage and doesn’t recognize him. (And of course there has to be an episode in which he meets a woman who is interested in him and who he also develops an interest in, a nice and somewhat eccentric older lady. But he ultimately rejects her because in the eyes of God he is still married.)
The plot of Dracula is told from his perspective starting in one of the later seasons, but I think it is better if it wraps up before the final season(s). Even for his supernatural cases the majority shouldn’t be about vampires, by the way. He isn’t a vampire specialist.
The big character development over the series is van Helsing learning to communicate and more importantly to trust people enough to let them in on his thoughts.
The question is, can his cryptic attitude be made fun enough for the viewer to endure and enjoy for 5-10 seasons?

We need more vintage/historical medical dramas. That shit it so fun seeing the wild shit they would have to do, or the struggles of medicine before certain advances. Like I watch the shit out of Call the Midwife and M*A*S*H. In the Call the Midwife fandom, I’m a member of the group that want a spin-off of Sister Monica Joan and Sister Juliette when they were young. I have an interest in the history of disease and medicine in general. I just want DRAMA in that area.

Am I going insane (spoiler, probably) but isn't there a BL; possibly Thai; of a Doctor and a Grim Reaper? I just saw your gif about Triage the Series and it reminded me of it. I wanted to watch it but now I don't know if that is real. The closest I have found is a Grim Reaper show from Korea. It's not BL, so that's out.
You are not insane, there are two Thai BLs right now about doctors, one of them is Triage - but it's doctor stuck in a time loop.
Tumblr media
The doctor has to stop a university student from dying to stop the loop, and he has to do that by getting the student to fall in love with him. It's better than it sounds, but the romance is VERY slow burn.
It's by the same author as Manner of Death, so Triage is the show that MaxTul as TanBun showed up in:
Tumblr media
The other one is:
Dear Doctor, I'm Coming For Your Soul
Tumblr media
This is the one that features a doctor falling in love with a grim reaper.
Tumblr media
Both of them feature pairs from previous shows Triage = 2 Moons, DDICFYS = Grey Rainbow.
Both of them have magical realism components, mysteries to uncover, and strange touch-points in the past.
Also the hospital location and medical costumes/uniforms are extremely similar.
So far Triage has a much stronger story, but DDICFYS has been way more BL.
Tumblr media
They're both pretty good actually, though I can see how you might find it confusing.
DDICFYS finishes up this week, and I am a little nervous about it ending happily.

Medical shows with autistic characters: "Oh no! Autistic people are so difficult to treat because they are always squirming around and having sensory overload from the MRI! Guess we can't get imaging at all whatsoever. Woe is me. Autistic people are burdensom."
What actually happens: "Okay so here's a sedative so you can just sleep through the entire MRI and we also have headphones and earplugs and we sometimes play music and movies for younger kids depending on what part of the body the MRI is taking pictures of."

Love First Responder Shows? Medical dramas? Maybe even villains?
Tumblr media
If so, please consider taking part in an IRB approved psychology study on trauma, personality, and interest in media related to first responder/medical media and villain related popular culture! You can find the survey here at this link. This is part of a multi-year study from my group of psychologist/researchers. We would very much appreciate any volunteers or help you can offer 💜.

Wow 😭
Thank you so much for the follower milestone! To everyone who has liked, reblogged, sent in an ask, followed - Citadel wouldn’t be possible without your support. Thank you for loving the game, the characters, and all of the shenanigans in between.
As a 2,500 follower special, I’m putting 3 short snippets (usually $10 each!) up for grabs. If you like this post, you’ll be entered into the raffle once. If you reblog this post, you’ll be entered into the raffle twice. That’s a total of 3 raffle chances per person!
Raffle will close Monday, March 6th at 8:30 pm EST.

Sometimes I wonder if the writers on these medical dramas do any research ahead of time. This character is 18 and after a four year time skip he’s suddenly graduating from med school?

Y'all a crossover between (pick your favorite medical drama) and transformers would be interesting. I wanna see autobot (aaand maybe Decepticon) medics working with human medics because that may be entirely hilarious. This is slightly inspired by whoooo watching Chicago med, the signature fics, and all the Pharma memes I've been seeing. I just think it would be funny, and i have none of the attention span to write it, so i wanted to share it with y'all.

Kelly McCreary Announces She’s Leaving ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ After 9 Seasons: “I Will Always Be Grateful”
Barely a month after Grey’s Anatomy veteran Ellen Pompeo left the medical drama, actress Kelly McCreary announced she will also be stepping away from the show. “After nine seasons, I am saying goodbye to Maggie Pierce and her Grey Sloan family. It has been a tremendous honor to be a part of such a legendary television institution as Grey’s Anatomy,” McCreary wrote in a statement, per…
