Despite 100+ chapters I don’t think I ever asked you what you liked about megarod, so: megarod for the ask game? :3

I didn't for them to be that many.

Let's see, I'll pick a few different things compared to the last ask.

One thing I really like about it is that despite all of Megatron's personal moral failings, Rodimus doesn't think of him as some big boogeyman or outsized villain/monster. He just sees Megatron as some guy. He's just some guy. He's done lots of bad things, but he's just some guy, not special.

But because Megatron is just some guy, almost all of Rodimus's beef with him is, therefore, incredibly personal.

I really enjoy that as a hook.

Why does Rodimus hate hats? Why is he the only one dressed as Megatron at a party where you dress up like the person you most want to punch? Why does he take everything Megatron says early on as a personal slight?

Because Megatron tried to murder him (Hot Rod) personally the one time.

Rodimus takes Megatron's communication cube to Optimus as a favor because he's just some guy doing some other dude a random solid and it's nothing personal.

But the journey of overcoming all that, overcoming their own personal failings, through having to work together and becoming friends?

That's good shit.

I actually managed to spit out a mini manifesto on a pal's DreamWidth post. I've copied it down below the cut. It's old and needs updating but more or less the same.

Bickering (that goes from hostile to good-natured).

Personality clash (both as individuals and in leadership styles - "sensible" guy and impulsive guy)

They are both having mid-life crises at the same time but over vastly different things.

Questionably ethical (Megatron is technically in custody and they are coworkers)

Potentially scandalous (guy who notoriously makes questionable decisions & Mr. Retired-Mass-Murderer)

Size difference (of your choice since Megan can become minibot-sized but Roddy can also climb him like a squirrel)

Built-In Tragedy (heavily implied that Megatron is going to die, for in-universe understandable reasons, regardless of what they do, so there is a seemingly unavoidable tragic end). Note: even if the relationship is nonromantic, that's still incredibly tragic to lose someone you're close to

Built-In Enemies-To-Friends (+To-Lovers if you so choose)

Megatron knows one of Rodimus' major secrets (destruction of Nyon) Trauma from Megatron having murdered Hot Rod (and thusly created Rodimus)

The weird involvement of Rodimus in Megatron's own absolutely bonkers creation

Rodimus stopping Megatron from committing suicide-in-the-line-of-duty on multiple occasions (but at least once by holding his hand)

Megatron outsourced his conscience to Rodimus and Minimus, which could lead to hilarious/sweet/sad/wild outcomes

Almost no one in their movement could have claimed to have witnessed Soundwave laughing. The stoic, serious façade was what most saw, but Megatron knew differently.

Standing with his third-in-command at one of the consoles in the command center, Megatron paused upon hearing the distinctive scraping sound and characteristic yelp of a seeker’s thruster slipping in a puddle of water on the deck and colliding aft-first with the ground.

“It appears that Starscream is having… technological difficulties.”

Megatron barked a dry laugh at Soundwave’s comment, slapping his palm against the table in front of him. Puddles often formed from drips leaking through the Nemesis’ hull, an everyday hazard. Really, Starscream should have known better. No one else in the command center seemed to see the humor in the situation, perhaps, instead, expecting retribution from their second-in-command for deriving joy from his embarrassment. All the better to be beyond reproach then.

“That’s not funny! Megan! Stop laughing at me right now!”

What no one but the old war-frame seemed to realize was that Soundwave was the most hilarious person he’d ever been fortunate enough to meet. Even if everyone else thought neither of them had senses of humor. That didn’t matter.

What made you ship it?

I noticed Soundwave’s unwavering loyalty and the fact that he is the one of the few Cons to actually treat Megan like an actual friend, along with Megan regularly being genuinely concerned for Soundwave and his well-being. Both of these things are pretty rare for them generally, but in most continuities, you get some solid ‘this is my buddy’ foundation. 

Heck, some of that concern even survived in G1!Galvs (despite the traumatic brain damage) in the Japanese continuity when Soundwave ‘died’ and got put back together as Soundblaster. He was genuinely distraught that something happened to Soundwave. From a dude who cares about basically nobody!

What are your favorite things about the ship?

Like I said, I usually go a friendship route for them, but I’d really like to see what a romantic interpretation could go.  I’ve actually got a fair few headcanons for friendship things for them that even lean towards a queerplatonic sort of relationship depending on the continuity.

I like how they’re regularly shown to trust each other (rare) and regularly have honest communication (rarer). Man, they’re just solid and have each other’s backs. Even in IDW1 after Megan defects, Soundwave still sends Ravage to make sure the dumbass is okay.

Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?

I dunno. I haven’t seen enough actual content for it that I didn’t just sit and think about to know what’s popular/unpopular. I need more info.

TL;DR

I quite like it, normally platonically, but who knows! I like their relationship a lot and think it’s pretty dope.

💬- Favorite Obscure TF fact!

I think my favorite obscure fact is that in TFA (I haven’t read the associated comics yet, so I’m going on the cartoon), you can make the very serious argument from the facts presented that Megan is Sari’s mom. 

I say it’s obscure because you have to notice that the only way she could have gotten to Earth was on Megan’s person and his body was the only source of Cybertronian tech on the planet that Sumdac had access to. Now, I don’t know HOW that protoform got there and I don’t wanna think about it that hard, but he definitely had it on his person somewhere AND it survived impact (presumably by being behind some armor).

Well, look, we all know who I’m gonna say. [cough]Megan[cough]. I’m also incredibly fond of Misfire actually for no reason I can really articulate. Every time I see him, it’s like “hey, there’s the boy, there he go!”

🍳- Character that you would go to Brunch with

This is assuming I would go out to brunch, but assuming I would go out to brunch in the first place, I think... I think I would wanna go with Ratchet. I wanna hear his stories of people being stupid and hurting themselves in stupid ass ways. Like damn, give me the good goss, gramps.

Uh, lemme pick a different one. Technically I do "Alternate Universe - Canon Divergence" all of the time. It lets me cheat and break timelines or other things over my knee as I see fit, such as the entirety of Reforged taking place in a span of time during the Victory Lap in LL #25, who made what relics, "you're the reincarnation of who?" and "which, if any, robot religion is right?"

BUT for a specific AU, I'd really like to try my hand at a Pre-War (possibly No War) AU at some point. I'd just need to figure out the setup.

💎 fave trope to write?

To borrow from Reforged again, it's got two tropes I really enjoy writing: reincarnation & fake dating/fake marriage.

Reincarnation is fun because you get all sorts of wacky implications religious and social implications.

Fake dating/fake marriage is fun because everyone (except Roddy apparently in this particular instance) is uncomfortable.

Some of my favorite fics to read personally also use fake relationship tropes.

hey man, if you're planning on reading eugenesis i'd be happy to give you some (non-spoiler) warnings ^^ outside of the holocaust imagery (which i thought was,,,not fine but not the worst i've seen, but given that i'm not jewish please take that with a grain of salt ^^;;; it's definitely more intense than the grindcore stuff imo tho) it does also touch on a lot of intense themes/imagery!

it's a gorgeous piece of prose and one of my favorite written works, don't get me wrong, it's just not something i'd recommend going into completely blind on anything even close to an imperfect state of mind skfjdksdkfjdk

Hi, Fio! Thanks for the heads up. I've already been warned about this, but I appreciate checking in. That's super thoughtful.

I think I'll be okay and if it's too much, I can put it down. But given the amount of graphic Shoah imagery I've encountered casually from goyim (documentaries, high school US history class taught by a nationalist, goyish films, being a Jewish person in public, etc.) over the decades, I think I'll personally be fine if I read it.

As for the other dark themes/imagery, I think I’ll still be okay. It’s good to know it’s there, so I appreciate the heads up.

I do, kinda. I have some food sensory issues but generally I like things made with cheese and/or potatoes.

Mac-n-cheese is a winner and so are baked potatoes.

I actually enjoy cooking but am usually too fatigued to get around to it if I have time.
