a/n: sadly I haven't been to a fair/carnival since i lived in Michigan but i remember it being absolutely amazing. also the lengths I had to go to not include strawberries in this fic...

[8:52 PM] - Tsukishima

It was finally autumn. The weather has cooled down a lot and the fair was finally in town. You had begged Tsukishima to take you before he finally relented, after all, he hadn't been able to spend much time with you since he'd been busy practicing. Now you were at the fair gates in your specially picked outfit scanning the crowd.

"Kei!" You squealed as you took off towards your boyfriend. You crashed into him grabbing him into a tight hug. He slowly wrapped his arms around you while muttering something about ruining his reputation. However, you noticed the little upturns in the corners of his mouth as he tried to stifle his smile. "Well since you're finally here, we might as well get going." He took your hand. "Next time don't take so long, you always look good so I don't see why you needed all that extra time." You felt heat rush to your cheeks. "Well it's extra special so I needed extra time." He clicked his tongue. "C'mon, let's start off with some games."

The first game you got to was a ring toss, and despite you insisting that it was a scam, he quickly gave the vendor 5 of his tickets and received his three rings. "Are you sure about this Kei? I'm pretty sure it's just a scam." You whispered. He chuckled at you before waving over the vendor. "If you don't mind sir, could you take down the dinosaur one?" The shopkeeper turned to him. "You have to land the ring on the red bottle in the middle first." Kei shrugged. "Just thought I'd save you the trouble." He held all three rings together in his hand before tossing them smoothly onto the red bottle. Flashing the shopkeeper a cocky grin, he wordlessly took the plushy and left the stand, forcing you to jog and catch up to him.

"What was that?" You asked incredulously. "Oh that? Just me winning is all." You shook your head and reached out to pat the T-Rex, only to be swatted by Tsukishima. "Hey, you do not have permission to molest my friend Mortimer you pervert." You choked. Who names a stuffed T-Rex Mortimer? "I'll get you your own at the next stand but this one is mine." He muttered, looking in the direction of the ferris wheel. "Let's go on a couple rides first before we eat then." You suggested.

And that's how you found yourselves in line for the space shot. "The infamous ride that takes you to an unsettling height and then drops you." Kei read from a blog on his phone. "Put that down. You're gonna ruin all the fun." You protested. Before you knew it, Mortimer was stowed away in the storage locker and the two of you were being buckled in on the right side of your row. "Scared Kei?" He scoffed in reply, but you couldn't help but notice the small beads of sweat forming on his brow line. The ride clicked and then began lifting you slowly up into the air. You were beginning to get excited when you noticed Kei grab your hand, it was cold and clammy. The ride reached the top and he turned to you. "Hey [Y/N], I don't think this is a good-" His concerns were quickly drowned out by his screams. He shrieked louder than the child next to you. The ride let you fall down and you saw the ground getting closer and closer as Kei tightened his grip on your arm. But the ride did end and Tsukishima shakily climbed out. "I am never doing that again."

You bought him a slushy and funnel cake to cheer him up. He had forgiven you by the end of his second ice cream cone and the two of you proceeded to go on rides more his speed. On the ferris wheel, the two of you got a good look over the city line. You scooted closer to him and held his hand. "I love you," You whispered. "Hm?" His usual sarcastic tone had found itself at home again.

"I didn't quite hear you, could you repeat a little louder."

"Ugh, you're annoying."

"It's not my fault I couldn't hear."

"Fine, I love y-"

Your words were cut short by him pressing a quick kiss to your lips. As he pulled away, he whispered "I love you more stupid."

USHIJIMA LOVES HOLDING HANDS

I've seen many headcanons that Ushijima is touch starved and honestly same. So he's probably not going to be all over you when you first get together. He strikes me as the type to take you out somewhere and maybe get you gifts but touch just isn't on his radar. So naturally as your relationship progresses, you want to do a little more, the first step being holding hands. This happens one day as the two of you are out on a date. It's at the mall and it gets really crowded so you reach out and take his hand so the two of you don't get separated. This surprises him but he doesn't say anything. However, when it's less crowded, he doesn't let go of your hand. Now he's always holding your hand. Movies, chilling at home, on a walk, it does not matter.

He also likes how small your hand feels in his. He also does the thumb thing if he's kinda nervous but he doesn't realize he's doing it. Like if he's waiting to see his results on a test, he'll hold your hand and start rubbing the back of it with his thumb. Then you get to squeeze it and reassure him which he absolutely loves.

Ushijima is a big guy. I mean at 6ft 2 in Japan of all places, there aren't a lot of people his size, which is why he absolutely loves it when you give him hugs. People are usually intimidated by him so when you run up to him and just hug his torso koala style, he gets all soft. Doing something in the kitchen and you sneak up behind him and give him a hug? Spectacular. Lying down in bed and you squish him on top? Amazing. Just constant hugs. You'd have to repeat this for a bit though before he starts hugging you first. He'd also be really gentle hugging you because of his size and muscles so it'd be really light. Except when he gets excited. He wins a game that was really difficult? Squishing the life out of you. It's amazing really.

USHIJIMA LOVES PLANTS

Yessss

I actually love plants and botanical gardens but I suck at keeping them alive. I literally have a succulent named Lewis dying on my windowsill right now

So Ushijima loves plants. Growing up in Miyagi, he's used to seeing tons of nature and agriculture since that's what the prefecture is known for, however, that's not necessarily why he likes it. Now his parents got divorced, but before then, he distinctly remembers a family trip to a botanical garden. His parents pointed out all the flowers to him and their scientific names. They even bought him a starter orchid kit from the gift shop. So naturally, he took care of it and it became a beautiful shade of purple. He's also an only child so it was probably nice for him to have something to keep busy with. But today, he finds taking care of plants really comforting and would definitely buy you flowers for special occasions and just because. Sometimes you'll come home and find a rose on your side of the bed. Or maybe he'll bring back a few wildflowers from you if he sees them at the end of his jog.

USHIJIMA LOVES SINGING YOU TO SLEEP

Alright so we all know Ushijima has this great baritone. And the money I would pay to have this man sing to me. But back to the topic. I feel like while he's not self-conscious of his singing, he's not exactly trying to display it for everyone. But sometimes, if you can't sleep and he'll notice you there all tangled up in the blanket, trying to relax, he'll just start humming a little something. And naturally, you'll start to relax who wouldn't and get sleepy. Then he'll pull you closer into his chest and start singing a little something. You can hear and feel the reverberations as well as his heartbeat which makes you very very sleepy. He'll probably keep humming even after you fall asleep just to make sure you have good dreams <3
