If you ever wondered what the best living vertebrate is, it’s the alligator gar in my totally not biased 100% scientifically backed opinion. They are just a flawless creature. Nothing wrong with them. Good tooth to snoot ratio, they have a winning smile.
They and other monster fish absolutely should NOT be in the hands of most private keepers at all and I do NOT support morph breeding of them because of that, but pretty fishy cute :c
a melanistic variant of the common garter snake. while most of these thin snakes appear in green or brown, they can be seen in a variety of colorations. they are common throughout the united states of america, and are the state reptile of massachusetts.
Have you ever seen an albinistic or melanistic frog in the wild? Is there any way their behaviors would differ from other frogs due to their different colorings?
Tadpoles, yes, adults, no. These mutations are rare to begin with, and they can also be fatal by increasing detectability to predators substantially, and so finding adults that have fancy mutations is exceedingly rare.
These traits probably don't affect behaviour much, except in so far as thermoregulation and detectability are thrown off, and so animals with these traits may be more cautious or act differently. But I am far from up on the literature on these topics, so I could well be wrong.
