what part of italy are machete and vasco from? not their birthplace since from what i've seen you're still workshopping that. where do they live? i assume rome?
In the 1500's setting Vasco lives and was born in Florence, his family has lived there for centuries. Machete was born in Sicily, was taken to Naples to serve as an apprentice and ended up living and working in Rome (and more specifically today's Vatican city, which as you may know has been an independent country since 1929 but wasn't back then). They first met when they were both studying in Venice in their late teens/early twenties.
I think in the modern au they live together somewhere in Florence.

stole this chart from @asubakaa and spent wayyy too much time making my own so. yeah. also i did 6 instead of 5 bc i know no restraint

#aughh i just spent ages typing out an honorable mention list and then i was like i don't like this actually so i deleted it#whatever you're not getting an explanation. unless you ask then i mean sure i don't mind#i find it funny that the straight ship canonicity ratio is lower than the lesbian one. there's just smth about het stuff when it's not cano#each tier had its own challenges with brainstorming which was fun#i don't have a lotta straight ships i think about in a frothing seething howlilng way. fakiru and tamaharu are really the biggest ones atm#gay ships are the most common for me bc i consume a lotta guy-dominated media and things get homoerotic pretty fast#but that also meant there was a lot to sift through and i always felt like i was forgetting something#like i almost forgot killugon. KILLUGON. the same killugon that i was painfully obsessed with for multiple years yes that one#formative to my life in middle school and everything. my little gay guys forever. theyre very sweet how could i forget them#and with sapphic stuff it was various issues in depiction. like 'no one ships these two from this obscureish movie but me' and 'they're boo#characters so how do i depict this visually' and 'no one knows these two the fandom's bone dry :('#there's a lotta ships i like but it was sometimes hard to find ones i LOVEd enough to put alongside the others yknow. a problem with all 3#categories. anyway a fun thing for my brain to do hooray#the most violently snubbed honorable mentions are probably griffith and guts bergerk. i wouldn't say i ship them exactly but they were in#love and should not be together in the present. as far as i've read. complicated but they're in my brain real good real deep in there#and hua cheng and xie lian tgcf. probably shoulda been there over the lawyers now that i'm thinking about it just in terms of sheer brainro#bc they took over my life about as hard as the other mxtx guys did. but yeah anyway#also i realized after this that i forgot horikashi.. which would probably take seowaka's place </3

Some writers/producers/directors have such obvious personal beef with certain characters, and it’s both hilarious and infuriating. Hilarious because of how pathetic it is, but infuriating because of how shitty they treat and talk about the character.
#richie kirsch#RICHIE! OH MY GOD I swear Radio Silence knew some guy they based Richie on who they fucking HATED#because all they do is shit-talk him in interviews and in the damn 6th movie!!#Not to mention that those guys are such obvious Pick Me Guys; it's PATHETIC! 🙄#I swear they just hate any guys who aren't Chadley angelic; or they act like they do to impress women who are antis. Idk which. 🙄#Either way it's annoying and pathetic and while *hate* is a strong word... I strongly dislike them. 😒#ethan landry#Yeah I think they hate Ethan too. Idk why; I can just *feel* it. 😒#vince schneider#They left him out of pretty much all marketing even though other characters in 5 & 6 who got posters/on the main posters#got basically the same amount of screen time before getting murked?? 🤨 And he's STU'S FUCKING NEPHEW ffs!#jason blossom#jason carver#These 2 have been SO BLATANT; especially Jason C! 😤😤😤#(I mean on Riverdale and in the various comics. Especially AWA.)#pietro maximoff#I wanna say#wanda maximoff#as well but Idk if Marvel writers *hate* her or if they just like to torment her bc she makes a good victim.#mk skarlet#petyr baelish#PETYR WAS A BAD BITCH (in more ways than one) and they made him die like a PUSSY! Just to service to most BORING fans. 😒#aegon ii targaryen#OBVIOUS. 🙄#daemon targaryen#Idk if it's Ryan Condal too but Sara Hess has most OBVIOUS beef with Daemon and it's so fucking stupid. 🙄 Please fire her already. 😒#daenerys targaryen#Do I even need to explain this one? An uncredited Jacqueline Hill appears as an unnamed Irish barmaid in The Vise: Death Pays No Dividends (1.5, ABC, 1954); in the UK, this episode wasn't seen until 1960 as part of ITV anthology The Crooked Path
#fave spotting#jacqueline hill#barbara wright#doctor who#the vise#classic doctor who#death pays no dividends#the crooked path#1954#classic tv#oof. ok. here goes. the story behind The Vise is needlessly convoluted and frankly absurdly confusing. the Danzigers were a pair of#American brothers who moved to the UK in the early 50s to produce tv film serials‚ The Vise being their first major production. the used#British casts‚ writers‚ crews and directors but the series was being explicitly made for American tv; the ABC mentioned above is not the#Associated British Cinemas group who were one of the big four franchise holders in UK television‚ but the American Broadcasting Company for#whom this series was being made and who transmitted it across the pond. there the series was The Vise‚ and then when recurring character#Mark Saber became popular‚ it was retooled as The Vise: Mark Saber and then again when the series later moved to NBC it became Saber of#London. despite being almost entirely a british production‚ The Vise was never seen here in that format; the episodes were split up and#appeared under various different anthology titles including The Crooked Path and Tension‚ sometimes not appearing on uk#screens until years later (if indeed they did all end up getting a uk showing). others were edited together into loose portmanteau films#for cinema release. Mark Saber‚ to add confusion upon confusion‚ was a pre existing character who'd been around for several years before#The Vise and had had his own series (albeit with a different star) already on American television (itself having gone through several#titles‚ including ABC Mystery Theatre and simply Mark Saber; that latterly being one of the titles which later Vise episodes went out under#back in the UK). i know. i know. my head hurts too.#regardless of the (very confusing) background‚ the series is quite a lot of fun and rather better than its reputation (it's true that#the Danzigers were businessmen first and artists a very distant second). it has an unmistakable wash of the USA about it despite featuring#almost zero americans (it has a host delivering to camera introductions‚ which feels very american‚ but even he's not a yank; Australian#actor Ron Randell got the gig and very good he is too). it also has a definite degree of luridness which I'm not certain UK tv was quite#ready for in 54 (stories typically involving adultery‚ blackmail and some really quite suggestive scene settings). poor Jac doesn't get#much of a part‚ but she does get a few lines (it's not unusual that she's still uncredited‚ with most Vise eps seeming to credit only 3 or#4 main players and of course Randell). her Irish accent is pretty good but she doesn't get any closeups alas

N. Igmatic's relationships with the rest of the N Team, summarized
(Note: this is only gonna include the three main scientists because they're the characters she interacts with the most.)
Cortex: Due to a combination of his ego and an odd level of skepticism for someone who exists alongside magical talking tiki masks, Cortex tends to underestimate N. Igmatic and see her as something of a nutcase. Igmatic, unsurprisingly, does not take kindly to this; she butts heads with Cortex a lot and often feels a pressure on herself to prove him wrong. That said, she does still feel a sense of loyalty towards him and the team in general, and doesn't mind his companionship in the moments when they aren't concocting evil plans, which is when their rivalry gets most heated.
N. Brio: They're mostly neutral towards each other, but with N. Brio being a lot older than her, he does occasionally have a sort of "what's wrong with the youths nowadays?" attitude towards her and her eccentricities. (For clarification, in my headcanon, N. Igmatic and N. Gin are in their early 30s, Cortex is around 40-50, and Brio is 60+.) In their friendlier moments, they sometimes give each other tips on making potions.
N. Gin: N. Igmatic has never been more enamored with another person in her life. He's friendly towards her, they have some interests in common (music and spooky/macabre stuff especially), and she finds him genuinely beautiful even in all his oddity. In turn he appreciates that she shows him nothing but kindness and affection and doesn't just brush him off as a freak. With Igmatic around, N. Gin is more of a henchman to her than to Cortex directly.

Hello my leige, Lord of the Gays. This humble servant requests that you part your most correct cartoons opinions onto us all so that we may partake of your wisdoms.
How could I refuse a polite request such as thine? But of course, my vassal. Prithee, give me a moment to collect my thoughts before I impart them unto thee.
I refer, generally speaking, to the spinoff show of my favorite comic series, Usagi Yōjimbo, called Samurai Rabbit: The Usagi Chronicles, as the "children's shows", though I may also refer to any of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles shows as well— more on this later.
In Samurai Rabbit, the main character Yūichi is obsessed with the exploits of his ancestor, Miyamoto Usagi (宮本 兎), the main character and protagonist of Usagi Yōjimbo. Many of the fans on tumblr.hell grossly mischaracterize Yūichi as having a style of nerdiness that is very painfully American (such as enjoying pop music instead of Shamito Nadeshiko, for example, which is almost certainly something that would play in Neo Edo, the city in which Samurai Rabbit takes place. Yūichi literally lives in Japan. He would not listen to American pop music, mostly because he does not have access to the Internet. nor does he speak English), when there is, in fact, a subgenre of Japanese nerdiness into which he fits (almost) perfectly. This subgenre is called 歴女, or "rekijo", which transliterates as "passage of time woman", but is used to refer to women and girls interested in pre-Edo period (1600s) Japanese history— essentially female Japanese history buffs, usually into samurai and such. Usagi Yōjimbo takes place in the early 1600s— the beginning of Japan's Edo period. Of course, Yūichi is not a woman, but the sentiment applies. I frequently and somewhat jokingly use the nonexistent term 歴男 (rekidan) to refer to him and myself, as I, too, enjoy Japanese history. I replaced the kanji for woman, 女, with the kanji for man— 男.
(By the way, this show is For Children, and the animation is kind of terrible. I hesitate to recommend you watch it, but at the same time, it has many lines I am always quoting in situations such as Work and Any Time I Hear the words "Syrup" or "Accident" or "Grape", and some legitimately funny jokes sprinkled in. Also, the Japanese dub, despite not being the original, still manages to be better in most cases. There are some bits I prefer in English, and some I prefer in Japanese.
This is unrelated to anything and more of a nitpick I have with the show, but they state his name is 兎 友一 [Usagi Yūichi], which would make his family name his ancestor's given name— something that does not really happen in Japan, according to my sister, who is fluent and studied much of the culture. His name should be 宮本 友一 [Miyamoto Yūichi], assuming there is an unbroken line of sons stretching back to Usagi because of the stupid way last names work under the patriarchy, or if any of the women of their lineage made their husbands take their last name, or something like that.)
In terms of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, it is important to note I got into this series because Usagi, the ancestor with which Yūichi is obsessed, frequently crosses over with them, in both comic and TV show forms, due to the authors of both comics being friends in real life. In fact, in every iteration of TMNT save Rise of the TMNT (which happens to be my favorite, despite this), there are at least two episodes that feature Usagi. I grew to like the Turtles independently, and made a post about them. In this post, I mentioned "having the most correct opinions about a children's show", and it is this that I quote all the time in my Esoteric Tags.
Anyway, Rise is the best Turtles because all of them are so well characterized, and the show has the very rare combination of good and stylized animation/acting, good characterization/writing, and a good story/premise. Usually, shows have one or two of the three, and you have to deal with the third being Just Good Enough to Keep Watching. Very much not the case with Rise, and I highly recommend starting with it if you want to get into TMNT. Music kinda slaps also. (This is a Correct Opinion because apparently, some people don't like this show. Somehow)
Side note about the crossovers: while the crossover with the 2003 TMNT is the most homoerotic (between Leonardo and Usagi), the 2012 crossover is the best, despite 2012 being my personal least favorite TMNT. Stan Sakai, the author of Usagi Yōjimbo, actually wrote two out of the three episodes, and they FINALLY got an actual Japanese person to play the Japanese character. That's a whole other can of worms I could open, but I'll leave that for another post, if I ever get around to making it. Suffice it to say, Japanese or Japanese-coded characters are, unfortunately, rarely, if ever, portrayed by Japanese people.
Hm. If I have any more Correct Opinions about Children's Shows, they are so correct in my mind I cannot fathom a world in which people don't think the same way I do, so I shall leave it here for now. I thank thee, my vassal, and pray you send me more asks like this in the future!

I just got caught up with What Manner of Man (which if you haven't read you really should, it's on Substack) and this is perhaps a rather silly thing to devote an entire post to, but as a person who is (often significantly) shorter than just about everyone I meet, it is really fun and downright affirming to have a protagonist who is also notably short. Especially because it's never really brought up as a negative, just a fact of life.

The Loudest Silence
YA contemporary
a newly Deaf-Hard of hearing girl moves across the country and starts a new school, struggling with navigating her disability and love for singing and lost friendships - determined to not make any new friends for the year she’s in Florida
and a boy struggling with family expectations and anxiety, after being made the fútbal captain even though he secretly ways to be on broadway, who quickly befriends her
bi & aroace-coded MCs
#The Loudest Silence#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#hm this was okay! it’s a sweet and light YA contemporary focusing on friendship and disability.#It’s a little cheesy; and I liked the immediate easy friendship (well; after a few false starts) and how welcoming Hayden's#friend group/family were. I like how they all jumped to learning/practicing ASL.#I liked how Casey was dealing with her newfound Deafness with a lot of positivity - the main frustrations being how other people treat her#but there’s also the underlying isolation and grief. At the same time it didn't go as deep as it could have with that?#The friendship is central to the story - but honestly I feel like Casey and Hayden’s relationship doesn’t develop past ‘they’re friends now#[continues other subplots] - it ends up being a bit telling not showing their friendship. And then she gets a love interest.#I feel like if you’re centering your book on being a platonic love story - rare in YA! - giving one a love interest kinda goes against#what’s supposed to be unique about it? Like it wasn’t overwhelming and I thought it was sweet actually; I just didn’t come here for that.#I always find it a little odd when YA contemporary books don’t explicitly name their aroace characters as aroace -#obviously I prefer an exploration of experiences to just using the word and nothing else; but in this genre; why not both?#considering various other identity labels are used and discussed there were various points where it felt like it was walking circles#around where it would be obvious to say “no I’m aroace” lmao?#And there’s a point where Casey mentions seeing an ace sticker on his guitar - the only reason it wasn’t an aroace sticker is bc#that would have ruined the minor subplot of her assuming he’s gay/dating his other friend. It felt like a slightly odd way to mention it?#but also I guess I appreciate it being evident throughout but also being a non-issue plot wise - while there’s a couple of moments#of people making romantic assumptions about them;for the most part it’s just treated normally for a boy & girl to be friends (as it should!#It does get points for mentioning people watching by conan grey LMAO (not that it really explores him feeling that way specifically;#but I mean same lol)#Overall plot-wise - there were kind of a lot of things going on and it petered out a bit? I wanted some more depth in some areas.#Also I feel like some of the references seemed out of date for current teens haha.#i do love the love for unusual pets (hairless cat and iguana)#aroace books#bisexual books

So I posted something because of Loverwatch when it first happened and I told myself I was not going to get invested in another ship between my own characters but. Here we are again.
To quote what I said to the other two people I regularly [ terrify ] plot with:
It's still a pretty rough sketch that needs more work what else is new? but
Here's the gist:
Tumblr media
The thought occurred to me that Genji is difficult to snuggle without getting pinched or imprints from the cybernetics and then just the general weight being heavier than a normal person.
Which he knows. So I suspect he would have been hesitant at first, but Abby insisted there is no engineering issue that doesn't have a solution and the same applies here. So they figured out some ways to make it work, usually by sleeping side by side and using pillows and a thick comforter to help cushion.
I have no excuse for this except a lack of self-control and that I like to see Genji happy because he deserves to be. That is all. 😂 [ And also I still blame Loverwatch, hence the relationship tag. ]
