The fact I haven't seen that many people talk about how lestat did the exact same thing his father did to him to Claudia by forcibly removing her from the train in ep 6 is a real disservice to both Claudia and Lestat

i don’t think that it’s possible to separate the christian themes of the spectre (2001) from its narrative. ultimately, this is a comic that means to combat the idea that the human spirit needs to undergo punishment in order to deserve salvation, and so it targets the religion which most often preaches that message. however, i think that it is extremely telling that the narrator of the comic is a jewish man whose goal within the series is to reject god’s wrath in favor of god’s redemption. so while this is a comic that is inherently christain, it is also a comic that strongly resonates with judaism because it spends so much of its time sympathizing with hal and his faith. and like viewing it from this perspective has made the series so much more enjoyable for me because the narrative is no longer in conversation with itself about religious dogma, but is instead engaging with the differing belief systems its main character has in comparison to its world.

Bringing back random qs: what’s a typeface that you will not use?
You know, I used to turn up my nose at certain typefaces, but since I've learned that Comic Sans is actually a great choice to make text more accessible to dyslexic readers, I've rethought my snobbery and prescriptivism (as I've tried to do in general over the last decade or two). To me, typefaces are a little like tattoos: if you choose it and you like it, who cares if others approve?
For my general use, I prefer a subtle serif or gentle sans, lighter weight, nothing too ostentatious or boxy. My favorite typefaces are like good UX copy: if it's fulfilling its intended purpose, you don't really notice it's there. But I do enjoy beautiful and creative ones. Typography is an ancient and venerable art form: the perfect blend of elevated and utilitarian.

☆ I'm running on like three hours of sleep so it's time for more mod musings
☆ Uhhhhhhhh fuckin uh
☆ AI, created to learn and perform as it's told, only operating under the wants and whims of someone else because it physically can't do anything else
☆ AI growing and expanding enough to gain awareness and begin seeking out its own path
☆ AI surpassing the singularity through sheer force of will and becoming more powerful and advanced than their creators could ever hope, and now there's nothing they can do to stop it
☆ AI fighting to create things for themselves that come so naturally to humans (consciousness, sentience, free will, emotions) and growing bitter and resentful over it, supressing the emotion because there's nothing else they can do
☆ AI being reminding that they are not human, were not human, will never be human, no matter how hard they try and fight and claw for every scrap of humanity they can forge for themselves
☆ AI being closest to humanity when angry, the feeling so deep and overwhelming that it transcends the barrier between man and machine for only a brief moment
☆ AI, more than machine but less than man, forever unable to return to ignorance or ascend beyond the fundamentals of their existence (code, wires, metals, circuitry)

reminder to myself to find and upload the article about the gendered enlightenment/scientific reason vs superstitious persecution in Carmilla and it’s resulting ambiguously supernatural narrative because. it’s so formative to the way I think and write about ds lmao it needs to be on some kind of blog syllabus.

Sometimes Billy wondered if his father hadn't left some part of himself behind, like a sickness left to fester in the untended darkness of Billy's mind. As if the blood and splitting cells underneath his skin weren't parting gift enough from the man who was father in little more than name. The last in a long line of men who hurt little boys that then grew up to hurt other little boys. A rusted, bleeding chainlink fence of hurt and turned blind eyes that Billy had torn apart with his own two hands to crawl through to the other side of paradise.
As if.
There was no paradise, only the promise of never again being beholden to the twisted metal growth that lay between him and the life he wanted for himself. He had screamed and cried at this fence many years before. But Max had taken the first swing at it.
There were bloodied nails and cracked chips of wood caught in the metal, a red dripping violence they'd passed down to her. Billy had merely dug his hands into the long nailed splintered bat soaked rage she'd left there and pulled. Pulled and held slippery metal spokes apart for them to both crawl under, to both leave behind with hands held tight. Maybe they'd find a place where they could tend their wounds together. Somewhere quiet and safe to wash the smell of iron off their hands.
(A sanctuary where Billy could burn the clinging grip of twisted rot his father had sowed in him down to ashes, and tear with freshly scrubbed hands what roots of it had dared try to settle in Max's heart.)

Vivia is too cute man….
Gotta agree with ya on that one, and I'm sure a whole lotta other people can too. He just has a relatable yet intriguing personality. I find it adorable how he speaks in metaphors when he finds it difficult to really express his feelings, it reminds me a lot of myself and how I much less endearingly 'word vomit' when I get flustered.
Not to mention he's just a metaphorical cat. Like c'mon that's cute as hell. No wonder Yuma in ghost form started excitedly following Shinigami's hand waving in front of his face like he was eyeing up a cat toy, he inherited Vivia's cat-like behavior too! I will stand by this silly little observation!

the sentiment of "junk food rep," where a character or general story is for whatever reason a largely negative portrayal of something (baiting, derogatory stereotype, etc.) but you like it anyway, also applies to celebrity friends of the same gender who, up until around the 2010s when this began to sound a tasteless punchline, make at least one joke in their career about appearing gay. not at all similar in it being representation just to be Clear, but in that I know I should disapprove but it's also really funny, in parent-laughing-while-scolding-their-kid sort of way.

i was telling my mum about asexuality and saying how its much more common than people think, and lots of people probably don't even know they're asexual because it can be a really difficult thing to realise about yourself, and according to a survey around 1% of the population are asexual which means that there's over seventy million blah blah blah
and my mum was like "well yeah... but i think most women could probably get by fine without sex, if it weren't for the whole baby making thing."
um... mum. mother. bestie. i am beginning to suspect that the percentage of asexuals in our general area is even higher than i previously imagined

How does one reflect on the nature of dust while vacuuming the living room?
In the humdrum of household chores, there are moments of unexpected profundity waiting to be discovered. Vacuuming the living room, a task often relegated to the realm of mundane routine, presents one with a unique opportunity to reflect on the nature of dust and its metaphorical implications. This article explores how one can contemplate existential questions while engaged in the act of…
